Jada Creations has won the Small Business BC Award for Best Solopreneur. Jaimie Davis, from the Gitxan and Nisga’a Nation is the owner of Jada Creations. Davis grew up in Terrace and in a video from BC Small Business says she faced racism daily. She goes on to say that now she creates to celebrate her culture and so her son doesn’t have to question his identity. Davis first began as a cedar weaver in 2003 learning under Haida weaver Victoria moody. She then went on to the Freda Diseing School of Northwest Coast art, Coast Mountain College in 2016. Davis graduated the three year Advanced diploma program learning traditional wood sculpture and design. She graduated with honours at the top of her class and was awarded the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for outstanding achievement in her art and business studies.
