PRELIMINARY: A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling south on Interstate 57 near milepost 158 in Effingham County. The driver of Unit 1 ran off the roadway to the right and struck a guardrail. Unit 1 then spun back onto the roadway and came to rest facing northbound in the southbound lane. Unit 2 was traveling south on Interstate 57 and struck the front of Unit 1. The driver of Unit 1 was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries. The driver of Unit 2 and all passengers of both Unit 1 and Unit 2 were uninjured.
CHARGES: Unit 1 driver was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and for Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
