Hannes Loth, 42, was elected for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party to lead Raguhn-Jessnitz. With 51.13%, this member of the regional parliament of Saxony-Anhalt came out ahead of a candidate without a label. Just a week ago, the far-right party won the presidency of a local authority in Germany grouping together several municipalities. The election comes amid a strong surge in the polls of this anti-migrant, eurosceptic movement defending pro-Russian positions.
