CANTON For some Americans, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is more than a holiday — it's a day of service.
On Monday, the Impact Evangelistic Center Church of God in Christ at 1411 Cherry Ave. NE teamed up with local community advocates to conduct a grocery giveaway.
Though the COVID-19 pandemic detoured most in-person celebrations and gatherings, the Rev. Kenneth Lancaster, host pastor, said the giveaway was in keeping with King's mission, which included advocating for poor Americans of all races.
"Our church has partnered with the Akron-Canton Food Bank for about eight months," he said. "This is something we could do safely. It's more than having a day off. It's a day we can reflect on how far we've come, and how far we have to go. I'm happy we can help keep his dream alive. "
