Ida Wanner, 97, pass-ed away peacefully in the care of hospice, at her home in Lakewood, Colorado on March 1, 2024. She will be remembered for her positive outlook on life, her down-to-earth character, her traditional German cooking including kuchen, knoephla and strudels, and her love of God, helping those in need, and the color purple. Ida was born December 19, 1926 at Wishek,ND, the daughter of Christian and Christina (Schilling) Unruh. She was baptized at the family home, attended church and Sunday school, and was con- firmed at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. On November 16, 1947 Ida married Ferdinand (Fred) Wanner at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. They moved to Jamestown where they made their home for many years and raised five children. While caring for her family, Ida did seamstress and tailor work at their home, sewing bridal wear and apparel as well as home goods and doll clothing. She volunteered at her children’s’ schools, St John’s Lutheran Church, the Anne Carlsen Center, and the Jamestown Hospital with regularity. She enjoy-ed baking, knitting, crocheting, crafts, and traveling with Fred after the children were grown. In April of 1996 Ida and Fred moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota. With the help of their child-ren, they designed and built Ida’s dream home, an A-frame cabin in the woods of Custer Highlands. They became members of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Newcastle, WY. Ida was active in her neighborhood, local elementary school and church. She enjoyed daily walks, playing Yahtzee, watching wildlife, growing geraniums with red blooms “as large as saucers”, Red Hats, and hosting neighbors, friends and family in her home. New interests included bingo and watercolor painting with the “Memories in the Making” group. Ida maintained her love of crocheting, knitting, and Yahtzee and was a “favorite” resident of the staff at Cadence Assisted Living because of her cheerful personality.
