Heinisch lost to Kelvin Gastelum via unanimous decision (27-30, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 258 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Although Heinisch didn't embarrass himself here, he accomplished relatively little over the course of the 15-minute bout. His most effective moments of the fight were a pair of kimura attempts in the early going. Neither got the job done, and Gastelum was essentially in full control from there. Although a wrestler by trade, Heinisch struggled with the grappling of Gastelum. He allowed takedowns in all three rounds. These two were scheduled to fight late last month before Heinisch tested positive for COVID-19 and the bout was delayed a couple weeks. Perhaps the positive test impacted Heinisch's performance some, but it was clear to anyone watching that there was a gap in ability between the two. Heinisch got some publicity following a strong beginning to his UFC run, but he has lost three of his past four fights dating back to August 2019.
