(Credit: Tim Gannon) Longtime Riverhead Highway Superintendent George Woodson said it was political interference from the Town Board that led to his decision not to run for re-election. “I’m just finished with it. I don’t want to do it anymore. Life is too short to be putting up with this,” Mr. Woodson said in an interview Wednesday. “Everything is political.” Mr. Woodson, 59, served as the elected highway superintendent for 13 years, and was a highway department employee for 22 years before that. Mr. Woodson is a Democrat, while four or the five Town Board seats are currently held by Republicans.
