POWERFUL FORCE: Health care and hospitals are the third-largest aggregate employer in Kansas. Hospitals generate almost $4.1 million in local retail sales and more than $270 million in state sales tax.
The industry generated $17.9 billion in income and $31.7 billion in sales.

Hospitals and health care systems are a powerful economic force in Kansas. The state’s health care sector generated $17.9 billion in income and $31.7 billion in sales, ranking it fifth among all economic sectors in the state.
Hospitals were the biggest contributor in the health sector, generating $9 billion in income and $17.9 billion in sales. Kansas hospitals employ nearly 100,000 of the 240,000 health service employees in the state. The health care sector is the third-largest aggregate employer in the state.
