Edwards County schools will remain in remote learning Monday and Tuesday. The district will make a determination Monday concerning the remainder of the week and activities. At last count, the district had about 35 percent of students in quarantine, up from about 30 percent last Monday, when the board of education shut down in-person learning. As of last Thursday, Edwards County had recorded a total of 819 cases of the coronavirus. 69 cases had been reported from August 19th through 25th, with all but six of the cases being people who were unvaccinated. 38-year-old Angel A. Wyatt of Fairfield was injured early Friday morning in an accident on South Cross Street south of Fifth Street in Crossville. State police said Wyatt failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and hit a fence and then a house in the 200 block of South Cross Street. The house was unoccupied. State police arrested Wyatt for DUI and cited her for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured vehicle. 21-year-old Lacy M. Brown of Eldorado, IL was injured Saturday afternoon in an accident just east of the Shawneetown-New Haven Road on Illinois Route 141 in Gallatin County. State police said Brown was eastbound on Route 141 and ran off the roadway when she became distracted, hitting a utility pole and overturning. Brown was cited for having no valid driver's license and improper lane usage. A 19-year old Clay City teenager was killed in an accident shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday on Illinois Route 1 near East Lawrence Avenue in Lawrence County. State police at the District 12 post at Effingham said in a Facebook post that the teen was southbound on Route 1 and crossed the centerline, hitting a pickup head-on, driven by a 57-year-old male from Pflugerville, TX. Both drivers were pronounced dead following the accident. Their names were not immediately released. 72-year-old Linda K. Miller of Newton, Il died in an accident late Friday night in Effingham County. State police said Miller was westbound on Illinois Route 33 and crossed the centerline, hitting a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Taylor E. Kerner of Newton, IL. Kerner and a passenger were not hurt in the accident. Crystal Winter has been named the August Employee of the Month at Fairfield Memoral Hospital. Winter is an RN who works in RISC/Urgent Care, and has been with the hospital since July 2000, and according to the hospital, goes out of her way to help the providers and takes wonderful care of patients. The Edwards County 4-H has received a $1000 food security grant on behalf of the Illinois 4-H Food Advocacy Team. Ava and Addison Anderson were instrumental in helping secure the grant, representing all Edwards County 4-H members and clubs. The money will be used to help the Albion Ministerial Alliance with their summer lunch program. Area river stages: Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 13.5 feet. Flood stage is 17 feet. At Clay City the stage is 7.08 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet. At Carmi the stage is 11.9 feet. Flood stage is 27 feet. The Skillet Fork at Wayne City stands at 5.12 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 3.35 feet. Flood stage is 19 feet. Rain is expected in the area by tonight, with good chances through Tuesday.
