Hawthorne's $47.6M school budget funds new teachers, technology upgrades UP NEXT HAWTHORNE — A $47.6 million budget for next year's operation of local schools will fund the salaries of several new staff, including four special education teachers and a mathematics teacher. The spending plan, reflecting a decrease of more than $1.5 million from this school year's revised budget, was approved by the Board of Education on Tuesday. Schools Superintendent Richard Spirito said the new positions, which also include a school psychologist and supervisors of humanities and math and science for Lincoln Middle School and the high school, will be paid for through federal aid for COVID-19 pandemic relief.
