Work done at Hawkes Bay Regional Prison as part of the Māori Pathways programme has been recognised in this year’s Arts Access Aotearoa Te Putanga Toi Arts Access Awards.
The awards celebrate the achievements of individuals and organisations providing opportunities for people with limited access to engage with the arts as artists and audience members.
The top prize was shared by prison advisers Lawrence Ereatara and Hone Fletcher, who are implementing the Māori Pathways programme.
Executive director Richard Benge says the pair have worked alongside Arts Access Aotearoa over many years and are champions of prisoner rehabilitation and community reintegration through the use of tikanga and toi Māori.
