Goats returning to Mequon to keep down invasive plant species

Goats are returning to Mequon this summer after the city's common council approved another year of using the livestock to gobble up invasive species in Pukaite Woods.
Last year, the Mequon-Thiensville Sunrise Rotary Club used the goats in a trial project to cut down on invasive plant species in Rotary Park, such as buckthorn and honeysuckle. These plants happen to be exactly what these goats love to munch on, and according to the Rotary Club's resolution, they were quite successful in 2020.
The goats cleared about 7 acres worth of invasive plant species from the woods in Rotary Park. The resolution notes, however, that there is still more work to be done in the woods to keep the invasive species from returning.
