Genesee County’s first female captain works to achieve her goals Updated Mar 12, 2021; Genesee County Sheriff’s Capt. Kariann Nelson knows how to set and achieve goals set for herself. Nelson, among others, was recognized for her accomplishments during a press conference held by Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson for Women’s History Month. In February of 2020, Nelson was promoted to captain of the law enforcement division within the sheriff’s office. Before that she worked her way up the ranks starting as an EMS while in college. “That’s where I learned about the [Genesee County] sheriff’s office paramedic division,” said Nelson, “how great it would be to work here.”
