Know what . Its really good fun. Really, really good fun for september, it was a Christmas Present in laws for the present from the in laws for the whole family. Actually been and weve actually been putting so ive been putting it off. So ive been grilling this morning grilling stephen this morning on how how do you how does it work . How do you dismount . How do get how do dismount . How do you get how do you out the wind tunnel . You get out of the wind tunnel . Its really just yeah, no, its really just collapse the floor when collapse onto the floor when they turn. No, no, no, because you turn the wind off. You dont turn the wind off. Keep the on because theres keep the wind on because theres a big group of you and you all take turn. Okay so you take your turn. Okay so you literally to yourself literally have to pull yourself out door and then five out of the door and then five year because year old do that because therell be an instructor in therell be an instructor in there you. There with you. That sounds brilliant. That sounds brilliant. Your five year will your five year old will be held the time. Held on all the time. Literally, literally just fell out last night. Literally, literally just fellyou last night. Literally, literally just fellyou see night. Literally, literally just fellyou see nightmares like that. You see nightmares like that. You see nightmares like that. Was this crown . No. Oh, was this crown . Oh, no. Oh, anyway, and thatll anyway, this stuff. And thatll be to get fixed. Be another £500 to get fixed. Its not cheap or yeah. Its not cheap or Something Like dentist. That was open sunday though, open on a sunday though, which is quite something. Yes. I up yesterday. Yes. I rang up yesterday. Well onto the website well i went onto the website because thought ill them well i went onto the website b fantastic. It heaving. And it was heaving. And it was heaving. Well, not surprised. Theres demand, isnt there . There go. If youve there you go. If youve got a dentist open on a sunday, let me know. Believe it. Know. I couldnt believe it. Know what youve been let us know what youve been up to. How eventful your weekend has been. But in meantime, has been. But in the meantime, well with our well crack on today with our top yeah, the migrant crisis yeah, the migrant crisis could last another five years until brought under until its brought under control. According to a control. Thats according to a leaked document. The leaked government document. The memo servants memo shows that Civil Servants are accommodation are planning mass accommodation sites perhaps sites until 2028, making perhaps a mockery the governments a mockery of the governments pledge boats. Pledge to stop the boats. All this comes after well, all of this comes after six died trying to six migrants died trying to cross the channel after a dinghy sank weekend with sank over the weekend with witnesses claiming that they heard gunshots near dunkirk as migrants were clashing with people who continued people smugglers who continued to send more boats across just hours after the tragic incident i well, of course, all this means pressure is now growing on rishi sunak , because on top of rishi sunak, because on top of all of the 39 migrants who all of this, the 39 migrants who had gone on to the bibby stockholm barge were taken off it because of contaminated water supply concerns. Well, lets speak now to susan phoenix, who is a campaigner from say no to the barge and joins us from portland, where, as we know, the bibby stockholm barge is based in very good morning you. In a very good morning to you. And look, as weve just outlined, a fraught area outlined, what a fraught area this the office, for this is for the home office, for us taxpayers, for residents us taxpayers, for you residents down portland, as well, not down in portland, as well, not to mention the people to even mention the people trying to cross the channel. What are your feelings this morning . As know that the morning . As we know that the bibby remains on your bibby stockholm remains on your doorstep is empty at the doorstep but is empty at the moment . Moment . Well, i think were running out of adjectives, dont you . Out of adjectives, dont you . Farcical. Itsjust out of adjectives, dont you . Farcical. Its just been a disaster from the beginning , disaster from the beginning, hasnt it . Theres been poor planning and preparation and that , of course, planning and preparation and that, of course, leads to poor performance. There is a military term for that that im not allowed to say on here, but its got lots of ps in it. Its been a naive rush and also a hush because there playing with billions money. Billions of our money. But we dont know. There is no freedom in information this whole in information on this whole scheme so know a lot of scheme. So we know a lot of people have already got wealthy on at the bottom of it on this. And at the bottom of it all are those migrants all are those poor migrants being one cupboard out of being put in one cupboard out of another and people another cupboard, and the people of portland are very of portland who are very concerned, youre talking about a dentist on a sunday, we cant get a dentist for god knows how long. So, you know, its that kind of putting life into perspective. Its been there playing with money, our money like game of monopoly. And all like a game of monopoly. And all the while the local people are using banks and theyre using food banks and theyre being insulted by fact being insulted by the fact £3,000 is being used per head on that barge, which must be much more now because they werent able to fill it, because people said they were not coming on and then to find the government havent listened to their own advisers , the experts in the advisers, the experts in the field they knew or the experts knew that there was a problem with the water supply. They also knew they had someone with tb who a doctor out in the field had said its not suitable to move him and they were saying, oh, just get him on. So its playing with peoples lives at a its really getting a crisis time , isnt it . Time, isnt it . Well, i mean, the reality of this, susan , i mean, obviously this, susan, i mean, obviously youre looking at this one particular issue, but the reality is that the government is planning and you can understand why to have more things like this, more mass sites over the next five years, you know, there is no instant solution to this. Solution to this. Well, as i heard that five years, i thought its very unlikely ill still be around in five years. But these people will still be and people will still be suffering. There is an still be suffering. There is an instant thing that somebody could be doing. Somebody could be control, getting rid be taking control, getting rid of slopy shoulders. Its of their slopy shoulders. Its always everyone elses fault at the of this. Now we have the bottom of this. Now we have or the top, suppose we have or at the top, i suppose we have the office. We have the ctm the home office. We have the ctm who the boats. We have the who run the boats. We have the american company. Somebody in klang and we have local port and theyre all pushing these balls between each other and nobodys taking responsibility. Weve taking responsibility. Weve been discussing this locally. If they would use this 39, this group now that are off and process them, they at least deserve to be processed and use that as a test case for how theyre going to do the rest of theyre going to do the rest of the country. Surely we have the country. Surely we have enough expertise in our country and if not, we can train it up to make assessors who know how to make assessors who know how to do the job and make it work. Assess you stay, you go, you stay , you go. It doesnt sound stay, you go. It doesnt sound like rocket science. If someones doing the job and taking responsibility , does it . Taking responsibility, does it . It certainly doesnt sound like rocket science. There are huge problems , though, and huge problems, though, and i know are opposed to the know that you are opposed to the idea barges. Regardless of idea of barges. Regardless of whether theyre on your doorstep or yet ministers over or not. And yet ministers over the weekend saying to the weekend saying they want to see, to 5 more between see, what, 3 to 5 more between now next election. And now and the next election. And the party saying, well, the labour party saying, well, actually wouldnt go back on actually we wouldnt go back on anything in place anything thats already in place. So would be fine with. So they would be fine with these as well because all these barges as well because all of it saves money for the taxpayer. Theyre to taxpayer. So theyre here to stay theyre saving money stay and theyre saving money for taxpayer. So you see for the taxpayer. So do you see the advantages from that point of view . Of view . No, because the sums being done at the moment and im not very good with my numbers, but the sums being done showing it is not cheaper than using what theyre using at the moment. We dont think they should be using the hotels either. But it certainly not cheaper. At certainly is not cheaper. At 3000, a head is 2500 a head in hotels , seemingly with our 3000 hotels, seemingly with our 3000 is mounting because its a never ending patch up job. So somebody somewhere in those higher echelons are not doing their sums properly. Echelons are not doing their sums properly. I think theres a big question of pride and not wanting to go back on something at the expense, as ive said before, at the poor people out here the on the island, in here on the on the island, in the communities and those migrants who really dont know which end is up, they should be able to stop the migrants coming in and thats been thats been prophesied in many ways that that be done with some more that can be done with some more strength of character from whos making decisions. Its making the decisions. Its a difficult i know, but its difficult one, i know, but its not insurmountable and it has to stop. Well, but this is the issue, isnt it . Is difficult. I isnt it . It is difficult. I mean, you were saying a minute ago, its not rocket science. You know, you assess these people, say you you people, you say you go, you stay, then the problem stay, you go. Then the problem with is the ones you say with that is the ones you say you go to, then youve got the lawyers jumping board lawyers jumping on board and its proving that is proving a second obstacle. Do you think when we look, theres all this talk about the European Committee on human rights. Committee on human rights. Should we be looking at our membership of that . And as to whether actually we can create our own rules which would make it easier to deport people . It easier to deport people . Well, many other countries create their rules, dont they . I dont know why we seem to have become, instead of the wonderful nafion become, instead of the wonderful nation we were when i was a little girl three quarters of a century ago. We seem to become that. I wonder what we that. Oh, i wonder what maybe we should ask somebody. Well, maybe we upset anybody. We shouldnt upset anybody. Well, sometimes you do have to upset people, know, to do upset people, as we know, to do the thing for everyone. The right thing for everyone. And these must be at the and these guys must be at the end their tether, too, end of their tether, too, because dont know whats because they dont know whats happening to them. And ive said before, given this before, they were given this shiny well, you can shiny carrot of, well, you can stay youll have this stay here and youll have this wonderful of milk wonderful land of milk and honey, the minute, honey, and the next minute, well, well just stick you somewhere until we decide what were you. So were going to do with you. So all those decisions need to all of those decisions need to be reviewed and nothing be reviewed. And theres nothing wrong positions wrong with people in positions of saying, hey , weve got of power saying, hey, weve got this lets have total this wrong. Lets have a total rethink. They dont rethink. Not, oh, they dont like the bars, so lets get them a whole load more. Someone somewhere is protecting reputations. And thats all reputations. And thats all i can see at the moment. Nobody is saying we need to rethink it. Saying we need to rethink it. Okay. Susan phoenix from stop the barge or say no to the barge. Good to get your thoughts this morning. Thanks very much indeed for joining this morning. Thanks very much indeed forjoining us and at indeed for joining us and at home, you listening to home, if you are listening to this to let us know this and want to let us know your views on all of this, whether we should be leaving the echr, whether more safe echr, whether we need more safe and legal routes or indeed any, because, we saw these because, of course, we saw these drownings the weekend and drownings over the weekend and they all people they were all people fleeing from afghanistan, where, of course, are course, we know the taliban are running is the running riot there. What is the answer to this problem . And do answer to this problem . And do you agree with what susan was saying . Do we need to stop these barges . This is the thing is, she made some very reasonable points in a very reasonable way. Made some very reasonable points in a very reasonable way. And in a very reasonable way. And thats whats got to be listened to. Now, its not to say you have to agree with her. Its not to say the government or the labour party or anybody else has to agree with shes saying, to agree with what shes saying, but points. But theyre reasonable points. So its all got to be considered, hasnt it . It does seem theres of seem like theres a lack of joined up thinking in some of this. Thoughts this. Your thoughts on that would this morning. Now, consumers may be burdened extra if burdened with extra costs if progress towards net zero is halted. Prime minister rishi sunak has been warned by the association decentralised association for decentralised energy to go further and faster in achieving green targets. Well it follows a major backlash. That number ten has had from cross party mps, environmental groups and science artists. After confirming Government Support for 100 new licences for oil and gas extraction in the north sea. Extraction in the north sea. Lets talk to jeremy nicholson, whos Corporate Affairs officer at the alpha energy group. Good to see this morning. Should to see you this morning. Should we be continuing with the push towards net zero . We should certainly move in that direction, but im slightly concerned about this word faster. Why . Because the costs are mounting up for consumers. Its a good thing to have more clean energy and who would object to that . More clean that . But having more clean energy greater cost is a real energy at greater cost is a real a real issue for consumers at a time when the cost of living is a real, real concern. And its a concern for businesses that need to internationally to remain internationally competitive as well. Yet the advice to the and yet the advice to the Prime Minister is that halting this progress would actually be more and wouldnt more costly and you wouldnt disagree that. Disagree with that. Theres elements of i think theres elements of truth i do slightly truth in that. I do slightly agree there things we can agree. There are things we can be that going keep be doing that are going to keep costs consumers and costs down for consumers and theyre good for the environmental agenda too, such as on energy efficiency. As working on energy efficiency. Theres we can do theres a lot more we can do there, in domestic there, both in Domestic Properties businesses and properties and in businesses and also , you know, time of use also, you know, time of use tariffs for voluntarily reducing stress, voluntarily reducing demand at times when the prices are high and perhaps using more power when prices lower, power when the prices are lower, that can help lower costs for all consumers. That can help lower costs for all consumers. So those sorts of all consumers. So those sorts of things and the cheaper renewable opfions things and the cheaper renewable options certainly something options are certainly something we be pressing ahead we should be pressing ahead with. The problem it would with. Part the problem it would seem to me , with with the green seem to me, with with the green energy agenda, as were told, is we keep being told its cheaper , but then you have people who are on entirely Green Energy Companies whose bills arent any cheapen so the whole system doesnt seem to quite work indeed. And its not quite as as simple as some people might imagine. Certainly true imagine. Its certainly true that cost of generating from that the cost of generating from wind and solar can at times be cheaper than generating from gas. But of course, when the when the isnt blowing so hard the wind isnt blowing so hard and the sun isnt shining, and when the sun isnt shining, something to the gap. Something has to fill the gap. And whats called firm and we need whats called firm dispatch supply. We currently get gas to do that. And get from gas to do that. And although gas prices have been going up, unfortunately the cost of building new Wind Turbines and so on has been going up too, because the cost of the commodities, the steel, cement and Everything Else required to build going up in build them has been going up in parallel. Unfortunate theres parallel. So unfortunate theres not cheap option not a really cheap option out there. Not a really cheap option out the big topic at the moment, big hot topic at the moment, of course, and i was of course, isnt it . And i was reading the mail on sunday reading in the mail on sunday they of polling, not they did lots of polling, not just climate. Were just about climate. They were talking prime talking about the Prime Ministers and the ministers popularity and the like, pursuit of net like, but the pursuit of net zero liked by more than half zero was liked by more than half of people. The majority of people and are behind people understand and are behind it, survey, by it, according to this survey, by by on sunday and more by the mail on sunday and more reports about the reports this morning about the numbers people installing numbers of people installing solar panels and heat pumps across the uk. 27,791 solar panels were installed in june alone. Extraordinary well, indeed. And after the surge in energy prices, particularly in gas last year, you can understand why theres an interest, quite apart from the environmental concern. But youre right, of course, you ask people, would you like more clean energy . Would you like a cleaner not clean energy . Would you like a cleaneto not clean energy . Would you like a cleaneto say not clean energy . Would you like a cleaneto say yes not clean energy . Would you like a cleaneto say yes if not clean energy . Would you like a cleaneto say yes if you not clean energy . Would you like a cleaneto say yes if you ask not going to say yes if you ask people, would you like to pay more get a slightly more for it, you get a slightly different you ask different answer. And if you ask people if like to pay a people if youd like to pay a lot more from it, clearly the support for net zero is conditional on it being affordable, for domestic affordable, both for domestic consumers keeping prices consumers and keeping prices internationally competitive for business. Do we need to move away from looking at things like i mean , looking at things like i mean, not entirely. I dont mean entirely, but like entirely, but things like solar and wind and just focus more on this. The Nuclear Option and wind and just focus more on this. The Nuclear Option , i this. The Nuclear Option, i dont think it should be any one thing. Its sensible in Energy Policy to spread your risk and not put all your eggs in one basket. But youre right, solar and wind can only go so far. Depher and politicians plucking arbitrary targets out of the air saying we need 306w of offshore wind in the 20, 30 or whatever is not really a credible plan. We do need more nuclear in the mix. Undoubtedly true. Mix. Thats undoubtedly true. Its renewables. Its not nuclear or renewables. Its not nuclear or renewables. Its both. But when you say politicians plucking these figures out of the air, is this not all being properly planned and thought through, do you think . I mean, is there people just literally saying, quite saying, well, that sounds quite good, know how good, but we dont know how were achieve it . Good, but we dont know how wetheres achieve it . Good, but we dont know how wetheres a achieve it . Good, but we dont know how wetheres a big hieve it . Good, but we dont know how wetheres a big element of theres a big element of that. And we hear this with talk about when to phase out gas boilers to phase out boilers and when to phase out sales of new internal Combustion Engine so on. The engine cars and so on. The governments on Governments Committee on Climate Change advised that the latter done before latter shouldnt be done before 2032. But the government had a rush of blood to the head and thought, well, well make thought, well, maybe well make it and now course it 20, 30. And now of course were having to reconsider that. So of plucking so perhaps instead of plucking these of the air, we these targets out of the air, we need be taking perhaps need to be taking perhaps a little bit more market based approach and working on getting the these technologies the cost of these technologies down. That consumers to down. So that Consumers Want to buy anyway. Buy them anyway. Yes. Consumers on yes. Keeping consumers on side in all of this, isnt it . Because, as you say, theres goodwill it hurts goodwill up until it hurts people, peoples pockets. And we saw much in the saw that very much in the by election in uxbridge, didnt we, where the conservatives very much were opposed to the introduction of ulez there. And it sort of referendum it became sort of a referendum on the ultra low emission zone. Well about in well be talking about that. In fact, debating the ultra low emission and expansion emission zone and its expansion later on programme. But later on in the programme. But im interested, i dont if im interested, i dont know if viewers can spot viewers at home can spot actually up close your tie. Youve got pigs flying. I think. Well, maybe wonder, overt well, maybe i wonder, overt message could be pigs message there. It could be pigs mightcould be look, not it could be true. Look, not everything that government does is in this area and is irrational in this area and moving towards cleaner power and diversifying our energy supplies, making ourselves less dependent imported all dependent on imported gas, all of are very good things of those are very good things that scepticism is about the that my scepticism is about the approach were taking. And if approach were taking. And if perhaps if we let the markets help little bit more and help us a little bit more and keeping the costs down for consumers, that will be good for the environment and for the economy. Just a quick one. Mother is the invention is the necessity of invention is thatis the necessity of invention is that is that the is that the phrase or something that anyway, you talk about these deadlines and being unrealistic, and perhaps being unrealistic, but does force change, but that does force change, doesnt it . It forces innovation i it does. And the net zero target, which one shouldnt forget, is 2050 is a long time away. It does. It does concentrate the mind. And where we would like to be. So thats probably such a bad thing. Probably not such a bad thing. Its interim targets for its the interim targets for 5 or 10 years time, which may not be deliverable. And i dont think they necessarily make things renewable things investable for renewable investors or others either. You need a little more need something a little bit more credible think. Credible than that, i think. Jeremy necessity yeah. Okay. Jeremy necessity is of invention , but is the mother of invention, but not the other way around, is there . But know what you mean. But i know what you mean. But i know what you mean. Im having one of those mornings. Jeremy no, im doing just fine. Good see you. Just fine. Good to see you. Thank very much indeed. Thank you very much indeed. I think was Something Like thank you very much indeed. I thinkyeah,; Something Like thank you very much indeed. I thinkyeah,; knewhing like thank you very much indeed. That warm feeling inside from boxt boilers proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news. Weather on. Gb news. Hello there. Im Greg Dewhurst and welcome to your latest news, Weather Forecast, an unsettled day ahead , an unsettled day ahead, especially across parts of england and wales. Some heavy rain, a met Office Warning in force across northern parts of england and parts of wales , as england and parts of wales, as well this heavy rain slowly well as this heavy rain slowly pushes us eastwards the pushes us eastwards through the day. Some tricky travelling conditions, skies conditions, sunniest skies across Northern Ireland and scotland , but plenty of heavy scotland, but plenty of heavy and possibly thundery showers too. Here later on in the day we too. Here later on in the day we could start to see some glimmers of sunshine further south and west. Humid feeling day west. Quite a humid feeling day here and temperatures generally the high teens to low 20s across the high teens to low 20s across the board. The winds picking up as across far east of as well across the far east of the uk as we head through into the uk as we head through into the latter part of the afternoon, evening time as this low pressure slowly moves away. And then overnight well start to see calm down. Plenty of to see it calm down. Plenty of clear spells developing still a few showers across the north and the west, but generally a quiet night to come and temperatures generally around 13 to 15 celsius to take us into tuesday morning. So there will be some low cloud mist. And merck initially a few showers in 1 or 2 spots, too, but plenty of sunshine. And as we head through the shower clouds will the day, the shower clouds will bubble up. Winds generally staying light all just staying light for all just a little bit breezy across the far northeast scotland. As the northeast of scotland. As the showers develop, 1 or 2 of them could be heavy in places, but lots places staying dry and lots of places staying dry and temperatures into temperatures again reaching into the low 20s starting to turn dner the low 20s starting to turn drier as we head towards midweek i that 5mm that warm feeling inside from boxt boilers proud sponsors of weather on gb news. News are miserable. Basically. There you go. Basically. There you go. Basically. There you go. But a heat wave on the way. If you believe the papers, another one, fingers crossed. So they say. Anyway, look, were going to all the sport its 624. Still to come for you this morning, how can we fix the Labour Shortage . Well, to according reports, the government is consider planning a short term visa suggestion for those under 30 to plug suggestion for those under 30 to plug those gaps. But should we be encouraging britons instead to fill up the vacancies . Well be debating that. Junior doctors in england striking again, thousands demanding a 35 wage increase. Demanding a 35 wage increase. In line with inflation. That is a bit above inflation. Is it in line with inflation . But are their demands pushing us further away and as always, we want to hear your views and well reflect as many of those as we. Reflect as many of those as we. Can but paul coyte is here with all the sport. Good morning. Good morning. How are you . Well i. Well, how is today . Im doing very well, thank you very much. As long as i only talk out of one side of your mouth. Okay. Because i thought they were going to put of words were going to put lots of words in ss in. Thats three in with ss in. Thats three sausages and two. I mean, sausages and just two. I mean, i work for a i work for a Radio Station years ago, and there was there was a newsreader there and i think had problems the. I think had problems with the. So people that were writing so the people that were writing the scripts put seriously the scripts just put seriously everything kind everything began with an s kind. So so, oh, perfect. So. So yeah, so, oh, perfect. So anyway, i hope youre okay. Well, lets talk about serious money. Serious, serious money. Yes. Serious, serious money. Yes. £115 million. £115 million. A huge amount of money. A huge amount of money. Were talking about moses casado. So moises caicedo, who plays for brighton , and there he plays for brighton, and there he is, a fantastic young player. Hes only 21 years old from ecuadon hes only 21 years old from ecuador. So brighton signed him for around £4 million, two years ago. And now chelsea and liverpool both want him. It looked like he was going to go to liverpool and they decided that liverpool was not where he wanted to go. So now 115 it is £115 million. So hes going to be moving to chelsea and hes huge amount of money, isnt it . 115 million. Its 20. 20 million more than harry kane. Yeah, i dont really get that. But the fact that hes 21 years old and they need a player in that position. In fact, both liverpool and chelsea do, and theyre prepared to spend the money the amount of money money and the amount of money that have spent. Now we that chelsea have spent. Now we heard about when todd boehly came in and the American Consortium came in and took over chelsea. They have. Spent £821 chelsea. They have. Spent £821 million in three transfer windows. Its just mind blowing windows. Its just mind blowing. And the thing is, and when they talk about transfers, the amount of money thats being spent and theres this thing called ffp , which is financial called ffp, which is financial fair play. So they have to be fair play. So they have to be bringing in a certain amount of money to be able to spend the amount of money. So, so it amount of money. So, so, so it all works. But when you think all works. But when you think about how on all works. But when you think do you work that its do you work that out . Its unbelievable. Its unbelievable the and when the amount of money. And when you you mention kane you when you mention harry kane and course, harry, im still and of course, harry, im still trying come to terms with this. So what you were posting at the weekend, youre very upset. I am. Im a little upset. Did did come out . It didnt come did it come out . It didnt come out bitter though, did it . Out of a bitter though, did it . It was just little upset. Out of a bitter though, did it . It vno, ust little upset. Out of a bitter though, did it . It vno, at little upset. Out of a bitter though, did it . It vno, a bit down. It was okay. No, a bit down. It was okay. No, a bit down. It was okay. It was just when you kept posting clips of you interviewing us with a tear in my openly weeping. Interviewing us with a tear in my weve penly weeping. Interviewing us with a tear in my weve nowr weeping. Interviewing us with a tear in my weve now gone3ing. Interviewing us with a tear in my weve now gone to g. Interviewing us with a tear in my weve now gone to bayern weve now gone to Bayern Munich all happened and munich and it all happened and he played munich on he played for Bayern Munich on saturday german Super Saturday in the german super cup. They lost 3 0 and i was cup. And they lost 3 0 and i was thinking, out what thats done. You his ffp for them. You know, his ffp for them. You know, his ffp for them. Yes. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. I mean but anyway but then hes over there and now harry kanes now saying i want to win everything. To. Of course everything. I want to. Of course he of course he does. But you know he plays for Bayern Munich on for saturday the then on the the first time and then on the front of the sun this morning, theyre saying kane could play for now. That kane its if now. So not that kane its if he has a kid there right its a maze you though so i mean obviously loving sport as obviously being loving sport as i do doesnt it amaze you i do but doesnt it amaze you and i was talking to dawn about this earlier, the fact that harry made the front harry kane has made the front page of the sun. Yeah. Three days in a row. And it, its a and lets face it, its a footballer thats moving teams. So now theyre looking for everything, some everything, whether theres some sort going to sort of thing hes going to start. Theres going to start. I know theres going to be about him that be a story about him that theyre then talk theyre going to then talk about. I dont know, but its the kane playing for germany. Its that because its saying that because his wifes pregnant then wifes very pregnant and then when born, it will when the babys born, it will probably be in germany and therefore child will be able therefore the child will be able to play for germany, fly home to have baby. To play for germany, fly home to hav do baby. To play for germany, fly home to hav do you aby. To play for germany, fly home to hav do you think you to play for germany, fly home to havdo you think you think so . Do you think do you think so . Do you think do you think so . Well, my mother in law was pregnant in germany and she was an army wife she flew back an army wife and she flew back to my husband in the uk, to have my husband in the uk, stayed here for two weeks and then back. He could have then flew back. So he could have played germany. Played for germany. They could have, for germany. But anyway, theres harry and spurs yesterday well. Spurs played yesterday as well. Oh yeah. Brentford and challenging it was entertaining, brentford and challenging it wasdid ertaining, brentford and challenging it wasdid youining, brentford and challenging it wasdid youiningfind it entertaining . I thought so. But you could have done a win, could it . Have done with a win, could it . Certainly have done certainly could have done with to all. But you know, with a win to all. But you know, what was interesting is that the game postponed game was nearly postponed and. Oh, to the lack of oh, right. Due to the lack of water the stadium. Well, this water in the stadium. Well, this is never known this is the ive never known this before. I first came of it before. I first came aware of it when i visited. Obviously the gents my hands, no gents went to wash my hands, no water. There was no water anywhere. Everybody anywhere. And everybody said like, water . Like, well, wheres the water . And for the and then were waiting for the start the game. Didnt kick start of the game. Didnt kick off six on. So off six minutes on. So apparently maybe was because apparently maybe it was because of lack of water here in the of the lack of water here in the stadium and then its then you get safety issues because get to safety issues because obviously need a fire or obviously you need a fire or anything like that. And so it was nearly postponed because there was no water in the stadium. Theres a museum theres actually a museum right next stadium, which right to next the stadium, which is museum of water is the London Museum of water and steam. And steam. The irony, the irony is unbelievable , isnt it . Unbelievable, isnt it . Been there many times ive been there many times with kids. Theres a little with the kids. Theres a little train around. But train that goes around. But yeah, thrill. Yeah, how funny thrill. Out of the museum theyve run out of the museum of water steam. Of water and steam. No steam. No steam. Theyve got water going back over a hundred years. Well, not stadium. Well, not stadium. Dont. Look this they dont. Look at this filthy water. Yeah. You think could yeah. You think they could have door for them . Have gone next door for them . Yeah. So spurs, it yeah. But anyway, so spurs, it was spurs two and was brentford. Two spurs two and antipasto spurs antipasto oglu the new spurs manager. His first manager. And it was his first game. No water. I found myself sitting with brentford fans sitting with the brentford fans always have to be very careful if sitting in away end if youre sitting in an away end and i got spotted for i was trying to keep it down spurs scored im sitting there with my son and i found myself and you 90, son and i found myself and you go, no , no. And then there was go, no, no. And then there was a little word from behind saying, i see what youre doing. You shouldnt be sitting in this end i can we km can we just have a quick look at something which disturbs me . Well, it disturbs you. Well, it disturbs you. Its the Penny FarthingWorld Championship. But beachy championship. Yes, but at beachy head, no idea why. Head, i have no idea why. At beachy head, not at beachy head, theyre not known fabulous breaks. Known for their fabulous breaks. Oh, gosh. Dont say that. Oh, gosh. Dont say that. Right. Okay. Right. Okay. Beachy head sounds very odd beachy head sounds a very odd place do it. Place to do it. I think its. Well, i think its. Well, i think its. I think hill thing. I think its a hill thing. The championship hill the World Championship hill climb head. There we climb at beachy head. There we are. Thats just are. Now, thats not just a stock photograph of a man on a Penny Farthing. There he is Penny Farthing. There he is taking part. They set off in one taking part. They set off in one minute intervals. Its just like a trial. I dont know how a time trial. I dont know how many. Penny farthings there are, but i know you know cycling better than i do. Id never quite understood the point of a Penny Farthing with such a huge wheel. How on earth are you wheel. How on earth are you supposed to get on the thing and ride it around . Its just ridiculous. Surely dont ridiculous. Surely i dont know how them. How you get on them. I cant answer that. Well, whats the point in them . How . Why they have gears how . Why do they have gears before existed, before gears existed, theyd have archers. Those have sturmey archers. In those days, big wheel to days, you needed a big wheel to actually speed. Days, you needed a big wheel to act|right. Speed. Days, you needed a big wheel to act|right. But speed. Days, you needed a big wheel to act|right. But you peed. Days, you needed a big wheel to act|right. But you sayi. Days, you needed a big wheel to act|right. But you say theyve right. But you say theyve got dodgy brakes, so you get your speed up and then what happens . Doesnt sound good. Happens . It doesnt sound good. Imagine . Youre about can you imagine . Youre about 50 huge wheels 50 foot in the huge wheels trying slow down, going down trying to slow down, going down a hill at 50 miles an hour and a penny . Farthing no foolhardy. A hill at 50 miles an hour and a pen crazy. Rthing no foolhardy. A hill at 50 miles an hour and a pen crazy. Rtiis. no foolhardy. A hill at 50 miles an hour and a pen crazy. Rtiis. Tom foolhardy. A hill at 50 miles an hour and a pen crazy. Rtiis. Tom pidcocky. A hill at 50 miles an hour and a pen creneveris. Tom pidcocky. A hill at 50 miles an hour and a pen crenever get om pidcocky. A hill at 50 miles an hour and a pen crenever get involvedcky. A hill at 50 miles an hour and a pen crenever get involved in y. A hill at 50 miles an hour and a pen crenever get involved in such would never get involved in such a thing. Viewers that perhaps saw some Penny Farthings yesterday let us know. Were you there in sussex at championship hill at the World Championship hill climb . Have been climb . That must have been quite. Were only people. There isnt really honest with you. Think there were with you. I think there were more than were more competitors than there were actual spectators. Fabulous. I have a point. Katie, thank much. Katie, thank you very much. Thank you. You all right . You all right . Oh, dear. After that , this oh, dear. After that, this up, isnt it . Still to come , can up, isnt it . Still to come, can we the uks Labour Shortage . We fix the uks Labour Shortage . Report suggests the government could create short term work visas for those under 30 to plug the gaps. Should we be encouraging britons to fill these vacancies instead . Well be it next welcome back. At 634. Lets bnng welcome back. At 634. Lets bring you up to date with this mornings front pages of the newspapers. Newspapers. Well, the times leads with gun fire and clashes involving migrants breaking out in the hours before a small boat sank in the channel on saturday, killing six. The telegraph draws attention to leading childrens charities, taking issue with delays in examining the pandemics impact on britains young people. On britains young people. In the guardian, were told that lower income pupils are expected to be hit hardest by grade deflation. Grade deflation. An the mail reveals that soaring numbers of patients from wales are seeking hospital care in england to escape longer waits under the labour run welsh nhs. Nhs. And finally , baby in hulls and finally, baby in hulls tent terror. Thats the mirrors headline, a baby having an incredible escape after a car careered off a road into a campsite and smashed over the tent where it was asleep. Tent where it was asleep. Well, joining us to take us through the papers in more detail this morning is the broadcaster and former editor of the daily star. Dawn neesom, alongside olympian chris akabusi. Warm welcome to akabusi. Very warm welcome to both morning. Both of you. Good morning. Morning. Shall we start . Morning. Where shall we start . Dawn, go, shall we . To dawn, lets go, shall we . To this crash. Because. Oh, sorry to to the times. Well start to go to the times. Well start with front page of the with the front page of the times. Its i thought we times. Its monday. I thought we were going 10th, and in were going to the 10th, and in my head, i all into that. My head, i got all into that. But actually, this is gunfire reports or witnesses saying they heard gunfire during this incident in six people incident in which six people died over the weekend. Really shocking. Its the ongoing horror everything that horror of everything that happened weekend. Happened this weekend. As we know, six basically, as we know, six people died, five taken to hospital, two are still missing. Obviously, its not going to be a happy ending for the migrants that that sinking boat that were in that sinking boat five the french coast five miles off the french coast , but that we had to go and rescue anyway. Did we i mean , they were why did we i mean, they were in french territorial waters. Why why is the rnli heading there to rescue them . Because the french just didnt get there in time, even though there were only five miles away. And we were what, 17 miles away. And we were what, 17 miles away . But in any case, its a blame game. But this story is shots fired in migrant clash the vessel sank. Clash before the vessel sank. Theres huge migrant camp at theres a huge migrant camp at a place called grande synthe. I think , which is near dunkirk, think, which is near dunkirk, which is where many of the migrants are gathering to make the crossing now, the crossing over. Now, there are iraqis there and are a lot of iraqis there and a lot of kurds there and afghans there, rather, and kurds there and there is gang rivalry going on. And and there is gang rivalry going on. And this story has come from a 15 year old lad who is an afghan and he was telling the story of what it was like that night before this tragedy happened. And evidently there was there were fighting was gunfire. There were fighting between the kurds and the afghans in the camp. And this this poor little lad went and hid. He did get on one of the boats leaving that night, but obviously was rescued by a french unusually, is french ship unusually, and is now back in france, but is determined get over to determined to get over to england. Old england. Hes only 15 years old and was obviously terrified. And he was obviously terrified. But just the ongoing mess but its just the ongoing mess that no one seems to be able to sort this out. Now, bearing in mind weve £480 million deal was struck with the french in march, which supposedly was meant to stop all this or at least help stop all this or at least help stop it. And it just doesnt seem to be its to be some defence that they were saying that august month that that august is the month that most french take their annual leave and of the patrolling leave and lots of the patrolling french, the French Police were aware, on holiday. Aware, are on holiday. Also the peak season but its also the peak season for crossings, right . Even so, i mean, 509 migrants crossed saturday, 1600in crossed on saturday, 1600in three days. Now if youre talking about the barge again, the ongoing story of that bibby stockholm holds 500. I mean , stockholm holds 500. I mean, its a drop in the ocean , isnt its a drop in the ocean, isnt it . Its just a horror show from start to finish. Start to finish. Chris, can we have a look at the mirror . And this the this tent terror , as theyre calling tent terror, as theyre calling it, because this is an extraordinary i mean, thankfully with a sort of happy ending. But its extra ordinary. Well, we said happened. Theres nine injured and some of them got life changing injuries, apparently. But for the baby in question and that family, definitely a happy ending. And luckily , i mean, the ending. And luckily, i mean, the baby itself was was very lucky. It was in its cot when the car crashed into the cot or sorry, the tent , the cot, save the baby the tent, the cot, save the baby. That is very much a happy ending and happenstance and its chance, a random chance factor for the babys survival. Other for the babys survival. Other people around could hear the skid, the crash, the rolling and people saying that theyre traumatised by the whole experience. But fortunately on the campsite on the holidays was a couple of surgeons who were able to deliver first aid and keep everybody happy and operate in in a fashion that minimises some of the gosh, what a bit of luck for rural pembrokeshire because , you know, presumably because, you know, presumably the kind of response that you get from Emergency Services out there is a bit longer to get to a campsite like that. I believe there were some off duty firefighters well duty firefighters as well and they were lift the they were able to lift the vehicle off some of the injured. Can imagine youre in can you imagine if youre in this tragedy to have this kind of tragedy to have surgeons duty off duty surgeons off duty and off duty firefighters . I mean, say firefighters . I mean, you say some life changing some people had life changing injuries. Have injuries. They could have presumably lost their lives in different circumstances. Absolutely you on absolutely. And, you know, on houday absolutely. And, you know, on holiday , going to sleep , the holiday, going to sleep, the last thing youre expecting is this sort of trauma to camping near by the side of a road, though, is what i dont understand. Understand. They are quite often, arent they . Those campsites . Yeah. Why . Yeah. Yeah i mean, around where we live. I mean, Stoke Hammond is a lovely campsite, but its. Well by the main road that goes into Stoke Hammond. So you could, in theory , crash into that as well. Gosh , honestly, i think the gosh, honestly, i think the reason is because a lot of people arrive in small tourist, so they have to be near roads so you can pull on in your little camper van and things. But yeah, a horrible story. But yeah, a horrible story. An awful, story. Its an awful, awful story. Its an awful, awful story. The baby survived. Yeah, its a miracle, frankly. Dawn, should we look at a level day coming on a level results day coming on thursday . We had a couple of years grade inflation as a years of grade inflation as a result covid and the big result of covid and the big bubble had to burst at some point , were expecting a bubble had to burst at some point, were expecting a bit of grade deflation on thursday. Whats guardians taking . Whats the guardians taking . Yeah, absolutely. Have nightmares about i still have nightmares about my a levels. It was back in the dark are you dark ages. Yeah. Well, are you lucky did them . Lucky you did them . I was. I was in the army already. Busy. Get out. Get out. Yeah, well, you probably still have nightmares about that, to be honest with you as well, but. Yeah. So you thoughts yeah. So you know, thoughts with waiting with everyone anxiously waiting for the results on thursday. But this as say, this is the story, as you say, dunng this is the story, as you say, during teachers during the pandemic, teachers were marking a level results and grades somewhat inflated. Were marking a level results and graderwas somewhat inflated. Were marking a level results and graderwas one mewhat inflated. Were marking a level results and graderwas one schoolt inflated. Were marking a level results and graderwas one school whereted. Were marking a level results and graderwas one school where 90 there was one school where 90 of students got a or a stars or i mean, because it was marked by their by their by their teachers. It was a private school. To be fair. But this is the story that basically were going back to pre pandemic marking now. So the grades are expected to be down. And its so unfair on kids out there. Theyre thinking, well, i worked really hard. Its not unfair on kids out there. Its not. If there. Well, its not. If theyre getting realistic growth, theyre getting realistic growth, theyre getting real but growth, theyre getting reaibut then, you know, going but then, you know, going through life, comparing it to the years when were the covid years when they were inflated do feel a bit inflated and it i do feel a bit sorry for does it matter . Sorry for kids. Does it matter . Does it i mean, to be honest, i always think with this sort of thing when it comes to our ongoing and no one ever ongoing lives and no one ever asked me i for or asked me what i got for gcse or for degree i got, but for what degree i got, but nobody knows what doors might have if you hadnt have closed to you if you hadnt have closed to you if you hadnt have the university. Have got the university. And does matter when and it does matter when youre applying for university. Obviously thats problem. Youre applying for university. Obv this. Y thats problem. Youre applying for university. Obvthis storyts problem. Youre applying for university. Obv this story is problem. Youre applying for university. Obvthis story is actually lem. Youre applying for university. Obvthis story is actually inn. But this story is actually in true style, is the fact true guardian style, is the fact that income pupils that lower income pupils are expected hardest hit by expected to be hardest hit by this, because the this, purely because the government set up a social Mobility Foundation to help students catch up with their learning theyve missed out on dunng learning theyve missed out on during the pandemic. And children lower income children from lower income families missed out on this. They just somehow fell through the again. So they havent the gaps again. So they havent had the help that sir Stephen Stockton in that face at me. Stockton in that face at me. They havent had the help that some the more affluent some of the more affluent families its families have had. So its saying that once again, the poorer children who suffered horribly during the pandemic , horribly during the pandemic, working in trying to study in poor conditions , in cramped poor conditions, in cramped houses without laptops and wi fi, etcetera, are once again going to suffer. But as i said, you know, good luck to everyone. I mean, most kids have worked very as you point very hard and but as you point out, stephen, no ever out, stephen, no ones ever asked what got for my asked me what i got for my a level results ever. These these are kids that kids adults that kids young people, adults that wont have sat gcse. So this is the first time theyll have sat formal examinations the formal examinations because the gcses during gcses would have fallen during covid of covid times. So a lot of pressure not only to be sitting your but to be your first exams, but then to be heanng your first exams, but then to be hearing are going hearing your results are going to be marked scrupulously. To be marked more scrupulously. Yeah, was on holiday yeah, actually, i was on holiday recently friend recently with a dear friend whos teacher and decided whos a teacher and he decided at the beginning of school at the beginning of the School Holidays earn a bit holidays to try and earn a bit of extra cash and he volunteered. Volunteered. He was paid exam boards paid by one of the exam boards to mark papers. He did two weeks work actually worked out work and actually worked out because thorough and because hes very thorough and decent about 100 hours decent person about 100 hours work over two weeks. And he worked out that he was being paid £4 an hour. And we wonder why teachers are leaving the profession. You wanted a bit of profession. You wanted a bit of extra cash because hes hard up teacher and he ended up being paid an hour marking a levels. Yes. Its great, is it . Yes. Its not great, is it . But if you if youre waiting for your a level results, dont panic. Panic. Your a level results, dont panic. Panic. It will all panic. Dont panic. It will all come in wash. We all did come out in the wash. We all did very well, didnt we . Yeah, well, were different. Well, things were different. I see. I three bs and a c and see. I got three bs and a c and that was one of the top scores in the sixth form. Yeah, i got. I got bs, which is really hard to forget what you get. But no ones ever asked me. No, but, you know. But no ones now. Its all as. If you dont an a star, theres dont get an a star, theres a there was only one go in sixth form and it was a fairly average school, to be fair. Who actually got an a . And we were oh, my god. And she were all, oh, my god. And she went think cambridge or went to, i think cambridge or oxford, us oxford, whereas the rest of us probably didnt to university probably didnt go to university to be honest with you. But then is that a sign of how the grading and tough it how the grading and how tough it was get an and was actually to get an a . And i really meant, oh, yeah, something, know, back the something, you know, back in the day. Something, you know, back in the dayyeah, same with degree yeah, yeah. Same with degree marking well dont common marking as well dont common excuse why you to one. Excuse why you got to one. Did you get to one. Did you get to one. Get to one. I did get to one. I did get to one. Yeah i got to one. Yeah yeah i got to one. Yeah good. Good. You chris. You get chris. You get chris. Me neither. Gold. Yeah haha me neither. Gold. Yeah me neither. The bottom do the army at the bottom go do the army go through three weeks of being on stage . Exactly. Exactly. Exactly. He exactly. He just exactly. He just got exactly. He just got a duty. Exactly. He just got a gold so worry about gold medal, so dont worry about exams. Worry about that. Exams. Dont worry about that. Okay. Okay. Uh chris. Oh, are okay. Okay. Uh chris. Oh, are we being told . Go to. Oh, ill tell you what. Just quickly, just quickly, chris, because sticking with the a levels so theology is getting more popular. Yeah, i did sociology, a level sociology and psychology , a downgrade of the stems and the classics and really , the classics and really, basically they wanted to say this is about young people and their activism. Their activism. Um, but as you go further into the piece, it actually talks about meaning in life. If talks about meaning in life. If the loss of formal religion theyve been through brexit covid alarmism of Climate Change, war in europe. And so asking , well, what change, war in europe. And so asking, well, what is change, war in europe. And so asking , well, what is what change, war in europe. And so asking, well, what is what is life and so young people are now going to sociology and psychology to make up their own mind. I mean, is that your own . I mean, is that your own . No. So as you go further into the piece, it talks about the meaning meaning in life. So theyve seen a decrease in religion and an increase in stake in these in sociology. And it subjects like german and Foreign Languages and maths and Foreign Languages and maths and things like that that are going down in popularity. Its going down in popularity. Its sociology really going to help you a job, though . You get a job, though . Not about getting no, its not about getting a job, though. Its about getting more important than the job is who where am i going . Who am i . Where am i going . Whats all about . You whats this is all about . You wake one day youre wake up one day and youre thrown into this world. Whats all this wondering . And youve got this infrastructure got all this infrastructure across youve got across you. And youve got governments manipulating governments who are manipulating your is your life. Youre thinking, is this want . Am i voting this what i want . Am i voting right . Im voting left. But its really but i think its really wondering the meaning of wondering about the meaning of life not going to pay your life is not going to pay your mortgage, is it . No, no. Its not always. No, no, no. Its not always. Will you critical it will teach you Critical Thinking it will stop coming thinking and it will stop coming on with your sociology. Think its. Oh, no, i think its. Yeah, no, its really its really important. I think its probably more important. You will your way in life once will find your way in life once you know you are in life. You know who you are in life. Yeah. World view . Yeah. Whats your world view . Oh, yeah, absolutely. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Who is who are these people want . I have no idea. I have no idea. Not a clue. Not a clue. Not a clue. No idea what youre talking about no idea what youre talking abo lovely stuff. Were going to lovely stuff. Were going to leave you two there for now shortly. Yeah. Now, the migrant mayhem has taken government taken a turn as the government is seek short term is planning to seek short term visa deals for the under 30s, which would allow young people to work and live in the uk. This would be part of the Global Britain strategy and it means that countries including mexico , malaysia south mexico, malaysia and south korea, could be part of the deal korea, could be part of the deal. So were asking this morning, is this a sign of britain wean britain that cant really wean itself off Migrant Labour . Lets talk to one of our colleagues. Ill albie amankona, who thinks we have a tight Labour Market already. Labour market already. She and Matthew Goodwin freeman , whos a conservative freeman, whos a conservative councillor, that made councillor, and thinks that made in the way forward. In britain is the way forward. Good morning to you both. Lets good morning to you both. Lets start with you, albie. Whats your in of this . Your view in all of this . My view is, is that its a neat solution to a problem that we face in britain, which is that we have a shrinking labour force and an ageing population. You will have remembered reports last week that the government was trying to encourage the over 50s back into work by telling them to get on their bikes and become drivers plug become delivery drivers and plug the that we the Labour Shortages that we have no was very happy have. No one was very happy about that. So this week the about that. So this week the government is saying, they government is saying, well, they want those those want to fill those those employment with short Term Employment gaps with short term migration of under 30 from partner countries like malaysia, mexico and this might even expand out to countries like germany and france as well. These migrants would be would be young people under the age of 30. Its not a route to settle. Its just people here on temporary visas for two years. And then of course, the converse is young people from britain would able to go to those would be able to go to those countries work well. So countries and work as well. So the impact on migration figures might be neutral. So might actually be neutral. So what do you reckon to that, matthew . Well, i think its good to see young people being considered by the government, but its not our young people, you know, young people already work in hospitality. They work in bars, they work in cafes , in bars, they work in cafes, they work as childminders. In bars, they work in cafes, they work as childminders. And they work as childminders. And those are all these things that the governments trying to fill with this. I mean, we have 1. 55 Million People claiming Unemployment Benefits on jobseekers and we have 1 million vacancies. I mean , the maths vacancies. I mean, the maths doesnt add up there. So instead of trying to look abroad at trying to fix our problems, why dont we look inwards . Why dont we look into moeen ali and see what we can do here . Because young people already in this country take up summerjobs, take up jobs , filling these take up jobs, filling these vacancies. So i dont see why we need to keep looking abroad. We can fix this problem ourselves. Well, matthew, is it not because weve been trying to get british people to do a number of these jobs and they simply dont want to do them, thats want to do them, whether thats fruit whatever it fruit picking or whatever it might theres all sorts might be. And theres all sorts of that government of schemes that the government have outlining, like have been outlining, things like trying Life Coaching or trying to give Life Coaching or managing people going back managing to people going back into tax benefits for into work or tax benefits for over 50 or as alby was saying, trying over 50s onto trying to get over 50s onto their its their bikes for deliveroo. Its not necessarily translating and yet for the economy, we need these jobs filled. But the fact these jobs filled. But the fact is, if you dont have a job, you arent at the luxury to say, well, i dont want to do that. Thats the point. If youre taking state benefits , you taking state benefits, you arent at the luxury to say, but i dont want to do that job. Oh and i really dont want to do that. So i think ill sit and wait. Thank you very much. You know, weve got 1. 55 Million People claiming Unemployment Benefits million benefits and weve got 1 million vacancies. Fix this vacancies. We could fix this problem overnight if we wanted to. And i think, you know , i to. And i think, you know, i think back to my time at school , i took up a job after school cleaner and cleaning the toilets, cleaning the desks, hoovering floors. Id come hoovering the floors. Id come in next day and friends in the next day and friends would did you enjoy would say, oh, did you enjoy scrubbing toilets . You scrubbing the toilets . Did you enjoy that . Id say, well, enjoy doing that . Id say, well, its a bit of extra its a job. Its a bit of extra money. And frankly, im not above any job. You know, im a student. Learning. Its student. Im learning. Its a bit of extra money and thats the attitude that i think we need to take. So need to look need to take. So we need to look at own country. You know, at our own country. You know, young people already take on summer they do incredible summerjobs. They do incredible stuff. Half time stuff. But half the time they dont recognition dont get any recognition for the responsibility that the extra responsibility that they take whilst also studying. They take whilst also studying. And alby, you mentioned a Labour Shortage in this country which we need to fill, but theres a fundamental problem , theres a fundamental problem, isnt there, when you also said , but you know, this is reciprocal , this means that our reciprocal, this means that our young people can go to mexico or south korea or so we cant import some people whilst exporting at the same time. That makes no sense. Makes no sense. I think it makes complete sense because ultimately if the countries that you have just mentioned, south korea, mexico, i think the uk is a much more attractive proposition for those people to come for here two years and work than it is reciprocal. So i think until this scheme expands to countries like germany , france, perhaps like germany, france, perhaps canada, australia and new zealand as well, the cans uk scheme was something i was really excited about after brexit. I dont think its necessarily going to be a problem with more young british young to those young people going to those countries than they coming countries than they are coming here. This is a really here. I think this is a really exciting opportunity for britain and i think should be and i think it should be expanded. Something which expanded. Its something which young would young people i think would really and its really benefit from, and its something can offer as something which we can offer as conservative tips to young people at next general people at the next general election. Work another election. Go and work in another country learn country for two years, learn a language , learn a culture, learn language, learn a culture, learn a skill , and language, learn a culture, learn a skill, and then come back and use skills. Here i suppose use those skills. Here i suppose with the loss of erasmus schemes and the issues that have and all the issues that have been widely about been widely reported about problems au pairs problems with, say, au pairs coming in from from sweden or nearby, is an opportune ity nearby, this is an opportune ity to try and broaden those International Links i suppose. Albie but what would say albie but what would you say to people say, well to those people who say, well actually import ing people actually by import ing people for couple years on these for a couple of years on these visas, presumably be visas, theyll presumably be doing low wages because doing jobs for low wages because theyre better paid they theyre better paid than they would say , wherever is would be in, say, wherever it is in mexico , and thats in mexico, and thats undercutting the economy here. And that is why british people dont do these jobs. And dont want to do these jobs. And actually, need to say no, we actually, we need to say no, we need to try and create a better high here in the uk i isabel, i think thats a really important point. There are some regulations in place that allow employers actually to pay that allow employers actually to pay immigrants less than than british workers. I think that is totally wrong. I think what would need to go in place alongside this this this new policy , see if it is pursued, is policy, see if it is pursued, is the getting rid of that regulation. You know, we should not be able to be paying immigrants less than british workers. So they can undercut our Labour Market and push down wages for everyone. Wages for everyone. There is a fundamental problem, matthew, isnt there, in the sense that, you know, when it comes to things like hospitality , we do look down on hospitality, we do look down on those jobs and you look at you only have to go to europe or even the united states. Those are considered careers that people can really thrive in. We need to change our attitude to that. Dont we . Yeah, absolutely. Young yeah, absolutely. Young people already take on roles in bars as baristas, in cafes, as au pairs, as childminders. Bars as baristas, in cafes, as au pairs, as childminders. Some au pairs, as childminders. Some are teaching, you know, thats what young people already do and thats exactly what the government is trying to fill. But when it comes to later in life, when it comes to job applications or anything like that, those are just seen as summer theyre just seen summer jobs. Theyre just seen as , you know, filling a gap for as, you know, filling a gap for as, you know, filling a gap for a bit of extra money. Lets be clear, if youve taken on a job, youve gone to a Job Interview , youve gone to a Job Interview, youve gone to a Job Interview, youve youve demonstrated, youve youve demonstrated, youve got responsibility. Youve turned up on time, youre often you know, if youre a waiter, youre dealing with multiple pressures at the same point. These are respectable things alongside your studies as well. So we need to change our attitudes. We need to realise that of people are trying that a lot of people are trying to and if weve got to do their bit and if weve got a million vacancies and 1. 5 Million People out of work looking for work, we need to looking for work, we need to look at our own. We need the made in britain. Thats what we need to get back to. Okay. Look, interesting points. Matthew albie, thank you very good to get very much indeed. Good to get your thoughts what do you think your thoughts. What do you think about it . Vaiews gbnews. Com i do sort of think i mean, as im more drawn towards what matthew is saying in that , you know, is saying in that, you know, weve got 1. 5 Million People out of work and a million vacancies. Why not fill them . But this has been the problem for a long time, hasnt it, trying to get people off these sorts of benefits and back into work. All governments want to work. All governments want to achieve it and no ones been successful. In the meantime, weve got these job vacancies, but the solution . But what is the solution . But the system when youre when youre on the dole is meant to be. Ga ee t offered a job youre offered a job and you sort of to take it. Sort of have to take it. That was my understand doing so. 50. So. So why not do it . And as matthew says, were not above any job. The world doesnt owe you a living. Absolutely. So keep those thoughts coming in. Views thoughts coming in. Gb views gbnews. Its 7 00 on monday, the 14th of august. Today may, according to a government memo , the migrant a government memo, the migrant crisis could last up to five years. Thats as witnesses claim gunfire and clashes were heard hours before a small boat sank, attempting to cross the channel killing at least six Asylum Seekers. Seekers. Junior doctors in england striking again with thousands demanding a 35 wage increase. But are those demands pushing us further away from them elsewhere , or is it time the london mayor, sadiq khan, abandoned his controversial ulez policy . The labour party now at loggerheads after sir keir starmer scrapped his commitment to rolling out these clean air zones across the country. Zones across the country. Its an interesting one. Also, weve got the latest weather for you with greg. Hello there. A met office rain warning in force across parts of england and wales today as low pressure continues to dominate our weather. Find out all the details coming up soon. Well, welcome to the program. Im isabel webster. Im Stephen Dixon. This is breakfast on gb news as. To our top story. Top story. Then this morning, the migrant crisis could last another five years before its brought under control. According to a government document, the memo from the home office shows Civil Servants are planning mass accommodation sites until 2028, making a mockery of the governments pledge to stop the boats. Well, it comes after six migrants died trying to cross the channel after a dinghy sank. Witness is claiming that gunshots were heard near dunkirk as migrants clashed with people smugglers who continue to send more boats across across the channel. Just hours after the incident. Incident. Well, inevitably, pressure is growing on the Prime Minister after all of the 39 migrants on the biggest stockholm barge were evacuated due to contaminated water supply concerns. Well, lets talk to political commentator and former mep patrick oflynn, whos in the studio. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Whichever way you look at this, its a total nightmare, isnt it seems to falling isnt it . It seems to be falling apart every single level. Apart on every single level. Youve got a plethora yeah, youve got a plethora of different events. Obviously this is the business end of the year the crossings as they year for the crossings as they often actually peak in september or october. Often actually peak in september or october. But. But the or even october. But. But the sea sort of warmed up over the summer, such as weve had and we can expect volume of crossings to go up then youve had the gunfire at the camps , the deaths gunfire at the camps, the deaths in the channel, the bibby stockholm latest farcical twist. So the events are piling up andifs. So the events are piling up and its an area where the government is simply not delivering. So you would expect under those circumstances that ministers would be really keen to move the agenda onto Something Else. And yet theyre really curious. Thing is, is i think theyre quite happy that the issue is in the news, even though they failed because they pick up a widespread public view that they know the labour party is even worse. Even softer wont even wont even try to solve this. But ill tell you what it might be the happy that its still still on the agenda. If they tried to move the agenda, though, to Something Else , wed though, to Something Else, wed be in uproar, wouldnt we . Because wed be saying, well, youre focusing on Something Else. When this initial problem that everyone has concerns about is being left alone. Well, i think its certainly true that whether want it true that whether they want it on the agenda or not, it on top of the agenda or not, it just is because theres so much actual around this actual news around this this phenomenon. Its not quite phenomenon. But its not quite as gloomy for the conservative government as it might given government as it might be given the wholesale failure. And as the wholesale failure. And as you say, this memo looks at a 3 to 5 year challenge of really large scale accommodation , which large scale accommodation, which clearly means the expectation is that the sort of numbers we had last year, 45,000 and you know, were probably get pretty close to that this year. And then for year after year after year to come, which does is when you have a Prime Minister said i will stop the boats, it doesnt look good. Thats certainly true. It increases the pressure on this policy, the rwanda policy, doesnt it, whether or not the Supreme Court permit it, because thatis Supreme Court permit it, because that is supposed to be the ultimate deterrent in all of this. But in home office this. But in this Home Office Memo, also talking about memo, theyre also talking about further used. Further raf bases being used. These mass housing sites and indeed prisons to house Asylum Seekers. Now, i thought our prisons were full. Seekers. Now, i thought our prisyes were full. Seekers. Now, i thought our prisyes ,vere full. Seekers. Now, i thought our prisyes , iere full. Seekers. Now, i thought our prisyes , i thinkl. Seekers. Now, i thought our prisyes , i think there may be 1 yes, i think there may be 1 or 2 disused facilities around, but i think the governments been chucking out so much on this that that its very hard to discern whats real and whats pretend and whats just like the idea of these pushbacks in the channel suddenly appeared on the front of one of our papers of record at the end of last week. Well, i think everyone in whitehall and westminster kind of knows it wont work in the busiest shipping lane where youve got overladen, overloaded inflatables that the idea i mean, you know, priti patel was talking about this three years ago. Thats just thats not going to happen. And it sounds like the idea of the Ascension IslandReception Centre isnt seriously being progressed. But seriously being progressed. But again, it made a nice headline. Again, it made a nice headline. So the government does have to be very careful that it doesnt build up. So much cynicism among the electorate that the sort of tory leaning vote is so disgusted. It just wont come out to vote for them. But the issue actually with all of this is that no matter what little schemes come up, whether its whether its a barge, whether its stopping the boats, whether its the Ascension Islands, whatever it is, process of is, youve got a process of people faster in a way. If you can process the people faster, it almost doesnt matter how many channel as long many crossed the channel as long as get processed and as you get them processed and then well thats then sorted out. Well thats what failing. What were failing. What you think the it depends what you think the problem you think stop problem is. If you think stop the boats literally only means stop the boats you dont stop the boats and you dont mind coming in via other mind people coming in via other ways and im not saying its ideal ways and im not saying its ideal, but im saying if you process, if you can get people processed and out of the system , um, then youve solved half the problem. More than half. More than half. Dont of the i dont think most of the pubuc i dont think most of the public would feel you had. I think they would feel all youve doneis think they would feel all youve done is youve made it easier for to come for irregular migrants to come and out a new pull and youve thrown out a new pull factor, which will tell you that if arrive in britain, i wont if i arrive in britain, i wont even have to sit around being processed for very long either. Even have to sit around being pdont;ed for very long either. Even have to sit around being pdont think very long either. Even have to sit around being pdont think they long either. Even have to sit around being pdont think the british either. Even have to sit around being pdont think the British Public i dont think the British Public thinks the problem is this. This de facto now of anyone de facto right now of anyone from any country in the world to illegally arrive in our country and stay there. Thats the problem. And thats what stopped the boats. Thats what the code stands for. I think, patrick, on this morning , stands for. I think, patrick, on this morning, you know, this monday morning, you know, after deaths in the after weve seen deaths in the channel after weve seen deaths in the channel, hugely sobering moment. These are real lives, real people. And you know, whilst the people. And you know, whilst the illegal migration bill was being debated lords, was debated in the lords, this was a huge point of contention and debate, particularly the archbishop canterbury, archbishop of canterbury, with his of christian hat on his sort of christian hat on talking about the moral obugafion talking about the moral obligation and duty to help obligation and the duty to help those fleeing for war, people who drowned over the weekend were from afghanistan and if there was a safe and legal route for people to come from afghanistan , a country in which afghanistan, a country in which we caused a lot of the problems by our withdrawal and the return of the taliban, there, then we perhaps wouldnt have this situation people trying to situation where people trying to get here illegally. There get here illegally. Well there is and legal for afghanistan. Its just sort of cap in its just sort of cap it in size and focusing on afghan nationals who helped the western occupation. If you want to call it that. What we cant have is an uncapped, safe and legal route from one of the poorest countries in the world with a population of 41 million. I mean , if we if we tried to do that, you hundreds of you would see hundreds of thousands of people coming and, you know, we simply dont have the infrastructure or the housing stock, the Public Services capacity, the taxpayer funds to carry such a burden. So i rather think actually the archbishop of canterburys idea is or view is whats putting migrants in danger. What would stop get the overloaded inflatable is if people knew you wont be able to stay in the United Kingdom. The idea whats United Kingdom. The idea whats making them pay £3,000 to people traffickers is the knowledge that once they get here, theyre 95 likely to be able to stay. 95 likely to be able to stay. Why is the eu failing on this . Because this whole safe haven business, your first safe haven , business, your first safe haven i , business, your first safe haven , i mean, they can argue its a bit unfair because people are likely to go to mainland europe first. But even so, if thats the policy and its never implemented. Implemented. No. Well, it wasnt implemented very much. To be fair, when we were in the eu and there was this dublin rule stating just that. I think in the last couple of years where we were covered by it, we only managed to send about 20 people a month back to the first eu safe country. And i think we accepted about three times as many back in the uk, oddly. So no, the eu isnt working on it ehheni no, the eu isnt working on it either. I think the political mood across europe is becoming much stronger on this and maybe rishi sunak can can sort of pal up with the italian government, other governments across europe and argue to change the whole International Legal framework , International Legal framework, which i think is at the heart of the crisis. So what about the 480 million that weve given to the french to police the boats coming across . And theres this huge debate about what on earth happened with this boat over weekend, with this boat over the weekend, very the french shore. Very close to the french shore. As stephen was pointing out earlier, the ones earlier, the rnli were the ones in the end that intervened. Were hearing about these shots being fired. On earth is being fired. What on earth is going French Border there . Well, i think the money to the french is a complete waste of money because if you think about it logically, france could end this in a week, not by patrols of beaches, not by puncturing the but simply puncturing the boats, but simply by to the United Kingdom by saying to the United Kingdom government, we accept back government, we will accept back any migrants. You pick up mid channel if they did that, there would be no incentive for people to gather at sangatte and calais. No incentive to pay a people traffickers to do that. The french wont do it. So why are we paying them money when actually they have ability actually they have the ability to the and wont . To solve the crisis and wont . Theyre not acting in good faith. Its got to be. Although figures havent been very good recently since this scheme recently since this new scheme was implemented with the french, they reckon that they have intercepted 50 of those trying to cross the channel. Its not as if they havent done anything. No, thats true. I think you can say from what we know about the volumes of people flowing from north africa and from asia through europe , sort of through into europe, sort of rishi sunak has actually tried to argue that having effectively a standstill rate from last year is some kind of success because it could have been so much worse. I dont think thats a bar the British Public is going to say hes cleared. But to say that hes cleared. But but i think its true that the extra funding for the French Police has resulted in in sort of making it somewhat more difficult. As i say, without difficult. But as i say, without spending a penny on policing french, the french could solve this just saying we will take this by just saying we will take back the migrants because we now, through our drones, our patrolling of the channel, we pick every boat now. Pick up almost every boat now. So that would completely destroy the Business Model of the people traffickers. France wont do traffickers. France wont do that for us. Okay, patrick, really good to see you, as always. Thanks very much indeed. Much indeed. Lots of you have been getting in this topic this in touch on this topic this morning. Louise west morning. Louise from west yorkshire. So fed up with yorkshire. I am so fed up with all this farce with the migrants. Im a Mental Health support worker. Ive finished a 12 worker. Ive just finished a 12 hour shift and she says we hour night shift and she says we are underfunded. Many people are underfunded. So many people struggling is an struggling and this is an absolute disgrace and its a fair point , isnt it, that we fair point, isnt it, that we have so of our own problems have so many of our own problems that need tackle so much that we need to tackle so much time energy indeed time and energy and indeed resources are being on resources are being spent on trying to this whole problem . John john has been in touch, says for people who voted for the tory party since 2010, when David Cameron promised to keep it in, keep the migration numbers in the tens of thousands, and then brexit. But then again with boris in 2019, those voters have now lost their voice because big corporations, the media, the labour party, the lib dems want more immigration into this country. I dont know that thats i dont think thats fair to say necessarily. I mean , certainly the labour party seems to be saying its going to follow on from whatever is currently in place and talking to the lib dems last week and they, you know, they theyre being very careful how they word things around migration at the moment. So i dont know if its quite a fair assessment, but i think youre quite right, john, in saying you know, a lot of things were promised and havent been. Been delivered. I just want to read this final point because apparently lots of people are emailing with this point. Andy from this same point. Andy from dorset, listened alexander dorset, i listened to Alexander Downer the camilla downer yesterday on the Camilla Tominey show. Now hes the former Affairs Minister former foreign Affairs Minister former foreign Affairs Minister for man had all for australia. That man had all the answers to the crisis. He the answers to the crisis. He should employed by the should be employed by the government and lots of people seem to be agreeing to that this morning. Yeah, of course. Theres always the argument, isnt it, that turned back to always the argument, isnt it, thatboats turned back to always the argument, isnt it, thatboats therejrned back to always the argument, isnt it, thatboats there were back to always the argument, isnt it, thatboats there were different the boats there were different sort of boats this is the thing. They were obviously much, much bigger boats travelling over much stretches of water much bigger stretches of water so sort safely so they could be sort of safely turned back. We dont have quite that option in the channel, but still im sure hes got a lot that could be could be listened to by the government. Keep your thoughts coming through. Now. Health bosses have warned that the nhs cant take any more disruption amid the four days of strike action staged again by Junior Doctors. Junior doctors. Well, services, as we all know, are at Tipping Point and nhs providers are worried that the cost of covering the industrial action will reach an estimated £1 billion, as well as leading to thousands more postponed treatments for patients. Well, this is the final day of this round of strikes, but how much support do Junior Doctors actually have now . Anna doctors actually have now . Anna riley reports. Favourites we riley reports. Favourites we want it now. Want it now. Its the fifth time Junior Doctors have walked out of the wards. This year. Their union, the British Medical Association , have refused to accept the governments final offer of a 6 pay governments final offer of a 6 pay rise and instead want a 35 uplift. But doctors on the picket line at leeds general infirmary and across england are also fighting for improvements in the nhs. In the nhs. Were here making a stance because it is impera lviv that we save our nhs each and every one of my colleagues here on the picket lines as well as their work, have already conceded an exit strategy. This dispute exit strategy. If this dispute is settled, theyre looking is not settled, theyre looking at other countries, theyre looking professions looking at other professions altogether. How altogether. This is how desperate we are. It is heartbreaking that patients actually in as an actually end up coming in as an emergency they Emergency Operation when they could a safer, better could have had a safer, better outcome operation on an inactive list. And this is the result of the pressures and the massive pay the pressures and the massive pay cuts and funding cuts that the government have forced upon the nhs. Industrial action has led to 835,000 postponed appointme points and this is adding to the hospital backlog that topped £7. 6 million for the first time at the end of june. This means at the end of june. This means nearly 1 in 7 people like anastasia de tempest are on a hospital waiting list. Ive actually got a serious gastro enterology problem and it affects my nerves. Ive been on affects my nerves. Ive been on affects my nerves. Ive been on a waiting list for over three years and im interested , but years and im interested, but this is a new thing. Im interested in going private. If the nhs will allow this. I realised that the nhs on one level is successful , but on level is successful, but on another level its cracking wrong. And heres what people in yorkshire think too. The ongoing Junior Doctor strike action. Theyve been let down by government after government after so long they argue that money, they work hard and theyre just its not recognised for them striking. But i dont support the amount of money theyre asking for. I think its ridiculous compared to other pay deals. Compared to other pay deals. Its all about the money. You know, the mind chatter about the money, then other peoples health. And i dont believe i think its wrong. Youre doing a fantastic job and they should be paid triple the amount than what theyre getting paid. Now, the hospital is as it is at. Is full as it is at. Know, theres no and, you know, theres no reason for the Junior Doctors to be strike. Be on strike. Industrial action is due the industrial action is due to end at 7 am. On tuesday with the bma urging the government to get back to the negotiating table or face further strikes. Table or face further strikes. Anna riley gb news well, lets get more analysis now from dr. Laurence gerlis, a gp at same day. Doctor, good morning to you. Look, its got to the situation now where ive met up with friends and weve been out with our Childrens SchoolSummer Holidays and people have been saying not to have an saying try not to have an accident a strike accident today. Its a strike day its just a good day day and its just not a good day to going into hospital. Yeah to be going into hospital. Yeah people are very frightened and patients are being harmed. Look, in general terms, i support the Junior Doctors, the pay support the Junior Doctors, the pay is awful. Their career structure is awful. Theyre bullied at work. The conditions are awful. But i dont think strikes look good. I think they look terrible. The idea of doctors chanting on picket lines to me , it makes me feel very to me, it makes me feel very uncomfortable. And indeed, its uncomfortable. And indeed, its not a good look at for all doctors. And i dont think that the strikes are working this is now 15 days of Junior Doctors strikes. And i think its strikes. And i think its becoming counterproductive. I think the government are using it against them. We had the Prime Minister saying blaming the Junior Doctors for the waiting list, which is probably not entirely fair, but theyve given the government the opportunity to use that against them. Weve got consultant strikes later this week. I just want to stop the whole strike thinking thing and move. Maybe if they want more money to work to rule, cutting out administration and getting other people to do the admin like discharge letters. And so on, because i think that would be more effective and it could run long term. They could do that for months on end as long as they still look after the patients. In the meantime. Yeah, but but doctor gerlis, if youre saying that these doctors are underpaid, overworked and bullied in the workplace. Yes. I mean , working workplace. Yes. I mean, working to rule isnt going to cut the mustard for them, is it . The problem is, stephen, that has been 40 years in the making. Thats no different from when i was a Junior Doctor. Theyre trying to address everything now. And you know , this is the now. And you know, this is the whole career structure for Junior Doctors where you have to move house, move , place, where move house, move, place, where you live, move all over the country. The career structure is country. The career structure is appalling and thats part of it. We had the you know, the bma themselves refusing to increase themselves refusing to increase the number of medical School Places in the past. And we have got a shortage of doctors. Let me also point out that theres an element of hypocrisy. Be the doctor that you interviewed talked about Junior Doctors wanting to go abroad, mainly australia as well. Australia has a mixed private bit public system , a social insurance system, a social insurance system, a social insurance system, but when i try to start that debate here, no one, no Junior Doctors, no doctors are interested. And yet they say, interested. And yet they say, well, im going to australia to earn more money. Well, yes, you can earn more money in australia because the system is entirely different. You the entire different. You know, the entire system needs and thats system needs reform and thats really of the problem. Really part of the problem. Were solve this were not going to solve this overnight. A 35 pay overnight. Even with a 35 pay rise, not going solve rise, its not going to solve the problem. Rise, its not going to solve the goodness me, a 35 pay rise. Goodness me, a 35 pay rise. What would cost the what that would cost the taxpayer, that come taxpayer, where that would come from frontline from in terms of frontline resources. Of the big resources. And one of the big issues no one talks about issues that no one talks about with the exodus of many of our young doctors places young Junior Doctors to places like australia, their like australia, is their repayment student repayment of their student loans. Decide not to loans. If they decide not to come five years, have come after five years, they have no imperative to pay that back. And that is another huge burden. We are giving the best training in all these in the world. All these wonderful, talented, bright young off to young doctors going off to australia then repaying australia and then not repaying their loans , which is not talked their loans, which is not talked about enough. Dont think. About enough. I dont think. No, im im not sure if thats true. I mean, a lot of doctors graduate with £100,000 in student debt and i would have thought thats still payable even if you live overseas. But you may well be right. But its not legally obligatory after five years. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Well yeah. Okay. Well look, yeah. Okay. Well look, times have changed. When i trained as a doctor, the government paid for all of my training. But you see, doctors now are very angry. They graduate with huge amounts of debt, dont feel debt, so they dont feel indentured to the nhs. You know, they feel it would be a form of modern if you said modern slavery if you said youve to work the nhs youve got to work for the nhs for because the nhs for ten years because the nhs has trained you. Look, i do have sympathy. The sympathy. I just hope the strikes can stop and i hope we can find another way because these patients are suffering at these patients are suffering at the thats the the end of the day, thats the issue patients are issue here. Patients are suffering i would like that suffering and i would like that to stop. Now, what i find interesting and because youve said what lot of people say , said what a lot of people say, which is the whole system needs reform and restructuring , i reform and restructuring, i cant imagine how you even begin to go about doing something on that scale. Is it even possible . Is it even possible . Is it even possible . Is it even possible . I think what id like to do is start a discussion when people talked about a Royal Commission, there was a Royal Commission, there was a Royal Commission under gordon brown, but its specific. Didnt look but its specific. Didnt look at the way we pay for health care. Id like just to start a discussion, have people talk about how best to fund the health service. So that doctors, all the staff in the health service, nurses, physios , admin service, nurses, physios, admin can all be paid more and find a way to reduce the amount of waste the nhs is incredibly wasteful. Its also incredibly resistant to change. Its almost impossible to change. It the structure is so full of so many different groups, all fighting each other. Your image of what life in hospital might be like from tv and films might be one of bliss. I can tell you its one of the nastiest working environments that you can find with people always blaming each other. Its a very unpleasant situation. So id like to try to start a discussion at least so we can think about other ways of running the health service. Running the health service. But have we got time to have this debate . It feels like we need to have had it yesterday. Dr. Laurence gerlis same day. Doctor, thank you very much, as always , for your perspective in always, for your perspective in all thank you. All of this. Thank you. Is some very good brazier is some very good points. Absolutely. Absolutely. What do you think about that . I think major reform is i mean, i think major reform is necessary. I just dont know how you even go about doing it. Well, whilst its the start of politicians well, because of politicians as well, because of politicians as well, because of course, theyre always thinking short term and about re election actually does re election and actually does this to be taken the this need to be taken to the point sort of a royal point of sort of a Royal Commission, something where its looked at separately. But again, that decade. And that could take a decade. And what the nhs in what state will the nhs be in ten years time or indeed 20 . Havent just got we havent just havent got it. Anyway, thoughts it. Anyway, your thoughts on that, be very it. Anyway, your thoughts on that, this be very it. Anyway, your thoughts on that, this morning; very it. Anyway, your thoughts on that, this morning inery it. Herschel ulez plans should they be dropped right across the country . Its coming up after welcome back to the program. Welcome back to the program. Still to come today, lots more for you, including could killing cash kill your finances . Well, cash kill your finances . Well, the influential federation of Small Businesses has backed our campaign for dont kill cash amid concerns Card Companies could be monopolising the shift. Animal rights activists have hit out at gary lineker after he modelled a suit made from a conch herschel wall. Bothered by conch herschel wall. Bothered by that mohair. Yeah, mohair is apparently cruel. Well, i wasnt aware of this, but we will be debating that in the next hour. Send in your thoughts. Vaiews gbnews. Com. Vaiews gbnews. Com. Some of you got some good ideas for my crown which has come off. Ron says hes had a couple of crowns come off. My dentist told me to use vaseline to put it back in as a temporary fix and it works. Fix and it works. X is that a ronseal . Oh, what x is that a ronseal . Oh, what i did very good, penelope , he says. May i suggest putting some chewing gum around the spiky tooth that might work. Tooth that might work. Yeah. So you were a bit off colour first thing because you didnt have a good night with all the pain and everything, but youve up. Youve perked up. Ive perked up. Ive perked up. Perked beautifully. Perked up beautifully. Perked up beautifully. Constant rubbing on just that constant rubbing on the little shark said its not going to be fixed what, going to be fixed till, what, thursday, going to be fixed till, what, thliver, a week of it, ive got a week of it, though. Have still got the crown, i have still got the crown, so maybe will try. Give it a so maybe i will try. Give it a go with some vaseline. Let us if the vaseline let us know if the vaseline doesnt work then, penelope. On with maybe ill stick it on with chewing gum. About all. Now something about it all. Now gb viewers have cure for everything. Yeah, right. We are debating ulez been ulez now because weve been heanng ulez now because weve been hearing that the labour leader, sir keir starmer, has scrapped the to the partys commitment to rolling ultra low rolling out these ultra low emission zones across the country, is country, which actually is putting with his own putting him at odds with his own mayor, khan, here in mayor, sadiq khan, here in london. Some consider this well, some consider this an attempt starmer a attempt from starmer to take a strong stance on what is a very unpopular policy in a bid to kerb within the party. Kerb divisions within the party. Since boris since their defeat in Boris Johnsons seat. Johnsons seat. Well, today were asking should labour abandon the ultra low emission zones . Lets speak to jamie chisholm. Hes a former labour supporter whos been badly affected by the introduction of this charging ulez system. And were also ulez system. And were also joined by danica mccarthy, whos climate columnist for the independent and a supporter of the policy. Good see you both this good to see you both this morning. Danica, look, is morning. Danica, look, this is unpopular right . Morning. Danica, look, this is unpopular right . These morning. Danica, look, this is unpopular right . These very unpopular right . These very unpopular enough for keir starmer, who promised to roll this out across the country if he got into power, saying actually, im rolling back on that now. That now. Well, first of all, on the popularity , all the all the popularity, all the all the polls have shown the majority of people london favour ulez and people in london favour ulez and favour tackling dirty air. Secondly, the majority of people in the oxford by election voted for parties pro ulez or first past. The post, of course, gave it the victory to the tories. But lets face it, the real issue. I but lets face it, the real issue. I was an asthmatic as a child. I dont know if you have ever experienced somebody having an acute asthmatic attack. Its an acute asthmatic attack. Its like taking a cushion and putting it on your face. 12 kids in london die that way from asthma every year. We have an asthmatic crisis in london. 500,000 people all suffer from asthma, and we have the highest mortality rates for children from asthma in the uk. So the mayor tax thing, clean air in london is actually on the side of the poor londoners who suffer lung disease is seven times higher than richer people and 80 of poor londoners do not have a car. The war in ulez is a war on the poor. Okay. Well, jamie, what do okay. Well, jamie, what do you say to that . Because youve been a lifelong labour voter and theyre saying this morning that this is an attack on the poor. Well, i disagree with the other guy. There i my situation is im a self employed builder. I go to work every day in my van. Im 76 years old, still, the reason i work is because the pensions are useless. Its what pensions are useless. Its what sidique khan is doing is ridiculous. If you he says everyones for it. Well theyre not. If you go to the builders, merchants, which i do all the time , and i speak to people who time, and i speak to people who have got old vans like mine, everybodys complained about it. Now, just by chance. Its a new now, just by chance. Its a new mod certificate i got for my van friday. So my vans just past the moat and the guy tested it is a government Testing Centre for the guy that passed. It told me the guy that passed. It told me the guy that passed. It told me the emissions on my van as spot on. I drive that van every day and i keep hearing that people in vans are at most risk. Im 76. Theres nothing wrong with me. Im as fit as a fiddle. So i just think its complete rubbish. Well, i mean, thats a fair point. Donica isnt it . If hes got a van with with no emissions that are on point and all the rest of it, why then should he be penalised at £12. 50 a day. It doesnt make any difference. Well, the mayor has actually brought in a provision that that any any single tradesperson can get 9500 pounds to help them replace their van. Hes also providing hes also hes also providing hes also hes also providing £2,000 help for anybody who wants to replace a car. There are there are thousands of cars in london available for under that price. So its actually helping the poon so its actually helping the poor. And actually the idea most tradespeople, i mean , i dont tradespeople, i mean, i dont know if youve ever had a plumber, they can they put the congestion charge onto the price you pay congestion charge onto the price you pay. So actually, therefore, you pay. So actually, therefore, it does not impact the tradespeople either. And i just really think lets go back to the child. Alex deborahs child died of asthma because she lived beside the motorway. Why dont we care about kids in this conversation. Why dont we. Conversation. Why dont we. Because why isnt there a child here whos actually suffering from asthma talking . I want clean air. Do we not have a human right because issue is human right because the issue is that people can get asthma wherever they live and its a its a case of whether you can say that these and its theyre dreadful cases. But can you make a direct link to say this child has died because of the pollution of cars next to the road that was that was found by an inquest . They actually did say it was deborah kaja kallas death was unked deborah kaja kallas death was linked directly to the pollution by the main road. Yeah. So its very unusual for that be very unusual for that to be tested in that way. But doctors are saying that that ulez and cleaning our air will reduce cleaning up our air will reduce the admissions to hospital by a million. We were talking just now about the waiting list for the nhs. So this is talking about making people healthier so they dont have to go to hospital. Its not rocket science. I mean, we see that the particulates in the air are being monitored on roadsides and we know that there is pollution. The of course, that the problem is, of course, that a lot of it is well, all of it is invisible. You cant see it. Yeah, but isnt the problem in all of this that the clean air thatis all of this that the clean air that is being proposed is being pitted this penalty pitted against this this penalty for working people actually for working people and actually the being sold to the way this is being sold to people down. People people has fallen down. People are favour of trying are broadly in favour of trying to up the planet, trying to clean up the planet, trying to clean up the planet, trying to a better place. But to live in a better place. But unfortunately, people dont want to be out of pocket as a result. Thats right. But i mean, were only trying to go to work, thats all. And we drive vans years ago, they used to use olsen carts. I mean, my cousin olsen carts. I mean, my cousin suffers badly from asthma. He lives in a Mountain Village in scotland with very few people. And hes in a terrible state with asthma. But so its not with asthma. But so its not necessarily to do with vans. And necessarily to do with vans. And this pollution thing has been going on from thousands of years. Weve had loads of ice ages before the coal was ever thought of and theyre just using cars as an excuse. Sidique using cars as an excuse. Sidique khanis using cars as an excuse. Sidique khan is just looking only at money. Well, is that the problem in this that people are seeing it perhaps as a sort of form of taxation in that this is another way of generating cash for the mayor . Indeed. Could be rolled out across country. And thats across the country. And thats why this is failing as a sort of policy idea. Well, actually saying well, its actually saying its on pollution. Its its a tax on pollution. Its a pollution charge. Its saying if you vehicle thats you have a vehicle thats actually damaging peoples health, we will actually put a tax on it to encourage you to clean the air. He talked about pollution in london in the 19505. Pollution in london in the 1950s. We had the smog. People were dying because the government acted. We now have. Did they act because because they banned. They banned coal fires. So what we do is either ban what we could do is either ban all of these vans or do an encouragement by actually putting a tax to gradually change over. Change it over. About subsidies . Why what about subsidies . Why does to there . Is subsidy. Theres a 9500 pound subsidy. So if the argument for this is for people who are perhaps white so if the argument for this is for |drivers, vho are perhaps white so if the argument for this is for |drivers, whate perhaps white so if the argument for this is for |drivers, what about|aps white so if the argument for this is for |drivers, what about otherhite van drivers, what about other people . Are they get £2,000 for £2,000 for every driver in london whos got a non compliant , gets £2,000 if youre , it gets £2,000 if youre disabled , you £5,000. Disabled, you get £5,000. If youre a van man and if youre a van man dnven and if youre a van man driver, you get 9500 pounds. If the argument that that doesnt coven the argument that that doesnt cover. Tories are cover. So if the tories are concerned about poor people, which should because which they should be, because this pollution, an this is a pollution, is an attack people, then attack on poor people, then argue an increase subsidy. Argue for an increase subsidy. Dont for keeping the air dont argue for keeping the air dirty. You reckon, jamie . Nine and a half grand to swap your van over. Nine and a half grand to swap youwrite over. Nine and a half grand to swap youwrite a er. Nine and a half grand to swap youwrite a van like mine. Im write a van like mine. Im a chippy, so i carry long lengths of timber. I carry eight by four sheets. I need a decent sized van to carry my tools and equipment. Finish jobs, equipment. When i finish jobs, i have rubbish away with have to take rubbish away with me. I cant leave rubbish around your decent your house so i have a decent sized i write a compliant sized van. I write a compliant van. According to mr khan, will cost at least £20,000. Thats for a second hand van. A new van is up near £70,000. Right. £2,000 is just ridiculous. Yes. So. So you get you you get nine and a half, basically. And a half, basically. What do you what do you expect builders to do . I go to celkos, a major builders merchants. I see loads of vans. Merchants. I see loads of vans. Theres loads of people , brand theres loads of people, brand new vans or got them on lease. New vans or got them on lease. Theyre up to their ears in debt and i see loads of people. Theyve stopped using their vans, theyre around vans, theyre riding around in little estate cement little estate cars with cement mixers and acrow props hanging out the back. I see a bloke out the back. I see a bloke there the other day with tonnes of to poke it all up of wood trying to poke it all up around his ears to drive because he cant use a van, but he can use a car, you know, the whole thing. Itsjust use a car, you know, the whole thing. Its just purely about mr khan money. If the vehicles khan and money. If the vehicles going in one city, if the vehicles bad, if the vehicle all shaking your head, if the vehicle is bad, ban the vehicle. Well all stop going to work, then no one will get any jobs done. The then no one will get any jobs done. The country will go down the pan. All right. Well, look on that note, jamie. Uk, weve got to leave it there. Were out of time. But good to see you both this morning. Youre to going have a view let know, view on that. Let us know, please, gbviews gbnews. Com. Just one thing. Ill just tell you one thing. Just a motorbike as just ive got a motorbike as well dont comply. And on well that dont comply. And on sunday a bike run, a sunday theres a bike run, a ulez protest run from the caff to hill. Its at 10 00 on to box hill. Its at 10 00 on sunday morning. Therell be sunday morning. Therell be thousands of bikers because this con is wrecking everybodys way of life. No, its not. And its about time. Sadiq khan. Hold on, hold on. What are the. Do you not care about asthmatic children . Oh, hang on. Its not destroying peoples lives. Its you. You himself a backbone you got himself a backbone and a khan to account because hes making a point. About what . About asthmatic children and ruining peoples lives. Jonica says, its, lives. As jonica says, its, isnt it . Isnt it . Oh, no. Got to apologise for the language there. Sorry about that. Do apologise. On, mr khan. Every apologise. Go on, mr khan. Every time he his mouth, he. He time he opens his mouth, he. He just picks figures and facts out the sky. He has no proof about anything. So how many asthmatic kids are there in london . Itsjust are there in london . Its just the half a million mathematics. Well on that on that note, to leave it there, were getting into too many specifics. Specifics. The questions, you know, we dont have those details, too. But good to see you both this morning. Thank you. We have to leave it there. Yeah. Thank you so much. Overall affair because well, im sure well, well carry this on in the break. In the meantime, weve got to take a quick break because weve got to get through the papers. Stay that. Weve got stay with us for that. Weve got dawn 744 lets have a look at the papers this morning with broadcaster dawn neesom and olympian chris akabusi. Good morning. Morning to you both. Morning. Morning to you both. Chris lets start with you. Should we looking at children in according to the telegraph, being ignored by the covid inquiry . Inquiry . Yeah, baroness hallett and the covid inquiry and save the children and nspcc are saying that weve got to get to the children. Weve got to hear their stories. The children were adversely affected in many ways because of the pandemic , not because of the pandemic, not least of all not least of all their education. But things like, you know, being isolated, isolated from other children and the learning that goes on from that sort of experience, being with other children, seeing a breakdown of their families right in front of their very, very eyes, and the squabbling that was going on there, exposure to harm that they might have had for them, the anxiety for their future. I got a little girl and when she was going through school, more than half of her life was is incarcerated. Within this scenario. So we. Within this scenario. So we need to hear their stories. We need to hear their stories. We need to hear their stories. We need to hear their stories. We need to hear their protestation about the effects that had on their lives so that we can learn for the future , because these for the future, because these are young adults whose frame of reference is called the gestell. Their framework was empowered. How are we making this assessment . I mean, i dont want to sound too harsh, but cant we make youve outlined it beautifully. So why then do we need to hear and spend a lot of money and actually a lot of time heanng money and actually a lot of time hearing from children directly because okay, outlined because, okay, weve outlined our view on them. But out of the mouth of babes, you might hear some you might hear something alternative , and you may understand some of the issues that are coming down the issues that are coming down the road from these young people whove not been socialised. If you think of one group of people that we talk about day after day of being badly affected and covid, affected by lockdowns and covid, its always young people. And then to be excluded then for them to be excluded from dont from an inquiry either dont have inquiry or look at the have an inquiry or look at the most important factor all of most important factor in all of this, is this should be this, which is this should be weve all Mental Health issues. We treat children of all ages from to teens appallingly from tots to teens appallingly dunng from tots to teens appallingly during pandemic. Think during the pandemic. And i think you not forget that you know, lets not forget that i were least i think there were at least three children lost their three children that lost their lives they were locked three children that lost their livewith they were locked three children that lost their livewith their they were locked three children that lost their livewith their abusersere locked three children that lost their livewith their abusers during ed up with their abusers during lockdown. So i think i do agree with chris. I think it is important to hear the childrens own voices and their language because can express better because they can express better than can what it was actually than we can what it was actually like to be a child going through. Exactly. And very simple , exactly. And very simple, holistic terms. They can and sometimes its some of the things that they dont say that is as important as what is just as important as what they do. Yeah but but i mean, one id throw in, i sound one caveat id throw in, i sound like miserable one on like the right miserable one on the panel today. Dont i . But hes when it comes an inquiry like this, comes to an inquiry like this, who is children would be heard its not going to its not going to be jamies kid who we just had on the chippy from bromley. But it should be. But its not going to be those people whod be heard, it . Its going be heard, would it . Its going to someone with some to be someone with some connections you whos connections or, you know, whos going invited. Going to be invited. Yeah, but, but, but. So yeah, but, but, but, but. So you highlight a good point. And it be it should the it should be it should be the kid the young child who was kid or the young child who was incarcerated in high rise flat incarcerated in a high rise flat with playground. Yeah, exactly. That. That. That. No computer. They said to play no computer. They said to play with, no tv, to watch and saw an abuse of the family. Thats the person you need to heat thats the person you need to hear. And there was so many of those children, so many that horrible story about those two little who were living in little boys who were living in a high rise, like you said, in london. And they were kicking a ball about outside they were about outside because they were desperate of desperate to get out of this high flat. Just little high rise, flat. Just two little boys heatwave as well. Boys on a heatwave as well. Forget. Yeah, absolutely. Were threatened with arrest. Yeah, because they were outside during lockdown. I mean, and remember, all of their of their playground their all of their playground equipment so equipment was all wrapped up so they couldnt touch the playground swings. Mean. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, lets go from one Health Crisis to another. This is in the mail. Dawn. Yeah, this is the front page of the mail, and it is the page agents trying to escape labour, welsh nhs numbers seeking care in english hospitals from wales to avoid longer wait rises almost 40 in two years. So this is the big obviously the other big election issue, isnt it . The nhs in crisis and i think labour have run the nhs in wales for about 15 years now, but evidently its actually worse than the way the waiting list in england. I mean wales have more than 73,000 patients waiting over 18 months for treatment, which you dont actually get in england any more. Evidently weve got rid of that issue and 21 of the welsh population on nhs waiting lists were in england. Its only 13, only 13 of us. No one should be on these hideous waiting lists by the way, but they are so basically its the labour versus conservative hour. Again, the mail doing what they do. Obviously supporting the conservatives and saying that lots people wales are lots of people in wales are coming england for treatment coming to england for treatment because are because the waiting list are shorter and then labour will say, well, hold on a minute, you dont spend enough on the nhs in wales and devolve but wales and devolve state, but actually receives £1. 20 actually wales receives £1. 20 for every £1 spent in england on on nhs patients. They get more and you get, they get more money as well. I was reading over the weekend about this surgeon, i think its guys and Thomas Hospital in london has overseen three london who has overseen three months worth of surgery in one week. Yeah. And in a real bid to try and reduce these waiting lists and it does seem as though were going to need some quite extreme things to really try and progress things. Obviously, with these strikes at moment, it these strikes at the moment, it doesnt and i think the doesnt help. And i think the waiting list england, waiting list in england, although than although theyre better than scotland and wales, have got worse october the worse since october when the industrial action, of course began. But i mean, hope its began. But i mean, i hope its safe. The idea of being able safe. But the idea of being able to get through three months worth week is absolutely worth in one week is absolutely wonderful. Worth in one week is absolutely woryeah. L. Mean, worth in one week is absolutely woryeah. L. Mean, like you said, yeah. I mean, like you said, i its but you think i hope its safe. But you think , you know, you can get a bit tired the same as. So start tired and the same as. So start doing and paste things doing cut and paste things and before know it theres before you know it theres negligence charges. But anyway, lets the best. Lets hope for the best. Yeah. Yeah. And this makes me so pleased. I dont know about the feet. I dont know if its meant to be a downer of a story that demand for pawnbrokers has gone up a lot recently. Im sort of lot recently. Im sort of pleased in the sense that id much rather people were were were selling off their goods rather to raise money rather than going for these awful loans. Yeah. I mean , its like a loans. Yeah. I mean, its like a more if youre in a desperate situation, its a more sensible option. Yeah. So ill take that point of view. Now, back in the day in of view. Now, back in the day in the 70s, pawn shops were everywhere. Yeah. And but it was a place of last resort where you went to at the end of the month when you were running short of, of, of cash and you put up your watch knowing that when you get your pay packet, youre going back, fight back. Right . Whereas i thats whats i dont think thats whats happening here. No, i think, you know, cost living crisis, know, the cost of living crisis, energy , food, mortgages , its energy, food, mortgages, its pressing so much on the personal purse that people are actually literally selling the family jewels. Now, where with you, you jewels. Now, where with you, you know, the collapse of wonga, which said, but clapps , wonga which said, but clapps, wonga and that sort of payday loan is good on one side because they were extortionate fees that were you were paying back. But it where do people go the cash where do people go for the cash if want £200 at the end of if you want £200 at the end of the month where do you go . Credit cards. Credit cards. Yeah but youve maxed well yeah but if youve maxed your cards and you need your credit cards and you need £200, putting the family £200, youre putting the family jewels you cant back jewels and you cant go back because all of a sudden the energy bill comes the mortgage goes then you lose. But goes up and then you lose. But i do agree with you, stephen, many, have got many, many people have got a welter private property that welter of private property that they no longer need. If youre giving that away , great. But if giving that away, great. But if its something, an heirloom giving that away, great. But if its something , an heirloom that its something, an heirloom that is going to pass, then its a little bit of a challenge. And the profits you can see, you know, six, six, 8 increase by one of these companies, another one, 35 of these pawnbroker heirs. And theyre lapping it up. Yeah, yeah. So in a way, i get it. I understand they need an outlet if you need to get some cash. But its just that some cash. But its just that challenge, its coming back from the 70s. Well, its not a stress that Meghan Markle to worry about. I actually got my Engagement Ring from a second hand jewellers did you . Jewellers pawn shop. Did you . Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. In the 80s when, you back in the 80s when, you know, people were really struggling its struggling as well. And its still nearly 40 still on my finger. Nearly 40 years so thats nice. But years on. So thats nice. But i do often think who had it before. Yeah. And the history of it. Yeah. Yeah ill try not to think about that. Yeah, right. Okay. Meghan markle telegraph markle this is the telegraph and this a duchess this is page five. A duchess adds new twist to arm party trend with anti stress patch. Meghan markle in california has been a new calm been spotted wearing a new calm biosignal processor ring disc. Wow me neither. Wow me neither. But it is meant to be an anti stress patch that you stick on your pulse point and the vibrations. Some theres lots of complicated words in this. Im not going to read out, but the vibrations evidently calm you down at and give you a better nights sleep. Now there is some nights sleep. Now there is some Science Behind this, but theyve also gone to an expert and said its mostly gobbledegook. There is no real scientific proof. Now the ive chosen this story be spending the money. Well, well, its not that expensive either. 20 pack costs £63. If anyones interesting. But its the way shes walking down the road. Shes a coat on, as you shes got a coat on, as you would california. But would in california. But the sleeve where patch is very sleeve where the patch is very carefully rolled up. So can carefully rolled up. So you can see the patch, whereas maybe it was rubbing isnt what you think. Its a cynical ploy to get photographed so everyone feels sorry her. Photographed so everyone feels soni hen photographed so everyone feels sor|i thinker. Photographed so everyone feels sor|i think it might. Well i think it might. Well theres three options. Shes either implied. Im so stressed, ineed either implied. Im so stressed, i need help. She is either working company and working for the company and promoting the patch is on their website, by the way. Right. Or or shes planning to launch her own wellness brand like gwyneth paltrow. Paltrow. Or it could just be the old fashion. I think youre right. Dawn were out of time. Were out of time. Thanks, both. Thanks, both. See you later. Im Stephen Dixon. And im isabel webster. And youre tuned in to breakfast on gb news. Gb news. So this whole gary lineker thing, which were going to be debating a little bit later on, is because he was wearing a mohair wool suit. And now the activists are saying, well , activists are saying, well, mohair is cruel. Mohair wool is cruel. Mohair is a no hair. Mohair is a no hair. But are they then and were going to talk to someone from peter a little bit later on. But do they say vegans and things . Is that do they not have any wool . Is wool a banned substance . What do you call it . The abstraction of mohair is a cruel practise compared to other wool. But we will be speaking to a sheep farmer who can presumably shed more light on it than can. I just thought wool was a natural substance. I had no idea that mohair actually was considered cruel. So i find that fascinating. But no holding back. Poor old gary lineker, whatever your views, hes been absolutely slammed for it. When i first read the headline, i thought hed worn something really controversial. And its just a wool suit, which he being paid to wear by a he was being paid to wear by a high outlet, wasnt he . High street outlet, wasnt he . , i mean, fair enough. Well, i mean, fair enough. Well, i mean, fair enough. Get money for the he can get money for the research. So i to say, im research. So i have to say, im not mr linekers biggest fan, but i cannot see whats wrong with that. To be fair, let us know you think. Know what you think. Our top story this right. Our top story this morning, the migrant crisis could another five could last for another five years its brought under years until its brought under control. According to a government document. A home government document. A Home Office Memo shows Civil Servants are accommodation are planning mass accommodation sites until at least 2028, making a mockery of the governments pledge to stop the boats. Well, this comes after six migrants died trying to cross the channel their dinghy sank with witnesses claiming that gunshots were heard near dunkirk as migrants clashed with people smugglers who continue to send more boats. Just hours after the tragedy. Tragedy. Well, pressure is now growing on the Prime Minister after all, 39 migrants aboard the bibby stockholm barge were evacuated due contaminated water supply concerns. Well, lets talk to political commentator and former mep patrick oflynn, whos in the studio at try and break all of this down because there are a number of different issues here, all all tied together, arent they . But the common thread, if you like, is that theyre all going horribly wrong. Yes yes. And this memo talking about the next 3 to 5 years and the need to plan for very large scale accommodation, they obviously want to move away from hotels, which you know, wins the British Public up even even more. But people, i think, will be very downcast. I think the government that says its going to stop the boats , i mean, to stop the boats, i mean, obviously you do need a fail safe and a plan, but this really seems like an acknowledgement that were going to be having tens of thousands of arrivals via this way for half a decade to come. So its very hard to see how or how a government minister could argue were stopping the boats. But at the same time, we expect that over the next five years, you know, tens of thousands more people to come. Yes so whats being said publicly . You know, this whole pitch is almost like theyre trying to blindside the public and say were trying to stop the boats when in actual fact, behind closed doors, theyre saying theres no chance of getting this next this sorted before the next election, to be election, although it has to be said sometimes a home said that sometimes a home office, servants a office, Civil Servants take a different view home office ministers. And theres a whole history going back priti patel and going back to priti patel and then into john reed then even into the john reed David Blunkett new labour of David Blunkett new labour era of home secretaries struggling with the permanent civil service. And theres even a thought that people in the home office think, well, theres the governments policy and theres home policy and then theres home office policy, and its very hard to shift mindset of the hard to shift the mindset of the senior people in the home office. Isnt there an argument to say, because we know the processing process is taking years at the moment. So processing process is taking years at the moment. So could it years at the moment. So could it be argued that this is actually a case of saying were going to get people out of hotels, into other accommodation whilst theyre being processed . Theyre being processed . Well, i think on the processing argument, im perhaps a bit of a renegade because i actually think the long processing delays is something of an inhibitor. Its a slightly unpleasant thing to go through. I think you solve process thing and people are being sorted in, you know, a month or whatever that actually will act as an even further pull factor for more people to come in because because the, the determination from that would presumably be if youre an illegal migrant, youre an illegal migrant, youre going to get within a month thrown back out again. Well, not well that hasnt been the case. Even in the slow motion processing. I think weve been having, you know, at first tried dunal sort of pass rates of 65 to 70 and then all the appeals kick in and the actual deportation is years down the line is , you know, 4 or 5. Line is, you know, 4 or 5. I mean, its certainly true. The longer it stretches out, you can accrue like rights to a family life. If you meet someone and have a child, then your your home and hosed, as it were. So youre in favour of the long processing because you think it acts as a deterrent. But of course that has a huge problem for the taxpayer and this is what the government solution is. Theyre trying to roll out these barges. Theyre desperate. Government this desperate. The government this morning to try desperate. The government this mor get to try desperate. The government this mor get people to try desperate. The government this morget people back to try desperate. The government this morget people back on to try desperate. The government this morget people back on the try desperate. The government this morget people back on the bibby and get people back on the bibby stockholm soon as possible. Stockholm as soon as possible. They to see 3 to 5 more they want to see 3 to 5 more similar barges next similar barges before the next election. Hearing from election. And were hearing from this memo theyre this Home Office Memo theyre also at further large also looking at further large encampments raf bases encampments at raf bases and indeed disused prisons. Encampments at raf bases and indees, disused prisons. Encampments at raf bases and indees, well, d prisons. Encampments at raf bases and indees, well, i prisons. Encampments at raf bases and indees, well, i wouldnt say im yes, well, i wouldnt say im positively favour of long positively in favour of long processing. I just think its a red of how to red herring in terms of how to quote , solve the problem. Sooner quote, solve the problem. Sooner or later, the public are going to turn to the government. And, you know, its all very well blaming, quote, lefty lawyers and all the rest of it who who makes the law. Youve got a big parliamentary majority. If youre not capable of creating a Legal Framework to deal with this issue, then theres not a lot to be said for you. So i think this conversation is going to turn to the European Convention of human rights and the European Court in strasbourg that supervises it. And, you know, the tories are floats wing, maybe a manifesto pledge of a referendum on that. But would people trust the conservative party to take us out of that convention and out of that court . Because i can think off the top of my head of at least a dozen conservative mps that i think would block it like the theresa may, Tobias Ellwood , jesse norman, those ellwood, jesse norman, those sort of mps, theyre not going to vote to leave the European Convention. So i just dont think that passes the credibility test either. Okay. Patrick oflynn, good to get your perspective. Thank to get your perspective. Thank you. Lets hear from nana assad, whos a labour councillor from harrow, and also actually a former child refugee , has have former child refugee, has have really good to see you this morning. And when you look at whats happened over the weekend and the tragedy of people dying in the channel but the gangs still trying to get people on the dinghies even after that has happenedis the dinghies even after that has happened is this just goes to highlight doesnt it, how these gangs need to be smashed for the safety of those people in most need . Need . Thank you for having me on the programme. I think that what happened over the weekend is actually very tragic and very sad. You know, six people lost their lives and those six were from afghanistan. The majority from afghanistan. The majority of the people on those boats are from afghanistan , including from afghanistan, including children. I mean , a few weeks children. I mean, a few weeks ago, another boat capsized and children died in that boat. I think what we need to understand is that refugees come by boat because there are no safe and legal routes for them to come to the uk. And, you know, the un convention, Refugee Convention doesnt say that you have to claim asylum in the first safe, quote unquote country that you arrive in. And many of these people, you know, have stories and they run away because of war and they run away because of war and persecute action. Now, if we look at the afghans as theyre running away because of the taliban regime or the taliban regime came back because the United Kingdom and the and United Kingdom and the us and nato withdrew afghanistan nato withdrew from afghanistan in. People are being in. And these people are being hunted by taliban regime. Hunted by the taliban regime. Women arent allowed work. Women arent allowed to work. Girls allowed to go girls arent allowed to go to school. On top that , the school. But on top of that, the badly handled evacuation from afghanistan led many of those who have called forwards, i. E, have it right to claim asylum in the United Kingdom through the official and access schemes. They didnt get on those evacuation flights and thats why we find a lot of these people coming on the small boats. I think that the small boats. I think that the small boats obviously do need to stop because its not a safe way to claim asylum in the uk. And people are losing their lives every day. But the reason every single day. But the reason why are getting on those why people are getting on those small because are small boats is because there are no legal routes for no safe and legal routes for them come here pimana we them to come here and pimana we spoke during the spoke to you during the withdrawal of the british troops from afghanistan because you yourself the taliban in yourself had fled the taliban in afghanistan as a child and sought refuge here and you were able to tell us your incredible story. And so, obviously, whats happened this weekend will resonate you, particularly resonate with you, particularly. Then perhaps. Have we forgotten then perhaps , do you think, a little bit about our research possibility for afghans in all of this . Because as you point out, it it was it was the way and in many ways perceived to be the failure of that withdrawal of the west from afghanistan that allowed the taliban to return quickly the taliban to return so quickly and to make life untenable for so many people in that country. Yeah, i think we do have a responsibility , but i also want responsibility, but i also want us to remember that weve been such a welcoming country. Such a welcoming country. You know, my parents came here in the 19 in the 90s when john major was Prime Minister and we had a welcome welcoming refugee policy then, right now i dont feel that way for refugees arriving in the country now. But i do think that we need to remember that we do have a responsibility because these people are running away based on our own actions. You know, these are people who have the right to claim asylum in the uk and the reason why theyre getting on the they the boats is because they werent to get on those werent able to get on those evacuation flights. I think we just need to remember that every refugee story. And the refugee has a story. And the ones that are genuine should have a just access to a just and fair asylum process here in the United Kingdom. But were not advocating for open borders. Advocating for open borders. Were not advocating to take everyone all the time. What were advocating for is a just and fair asylum process where peoples cases can be heard and their genuine cases put forward. But the problem is fermani you just said, you know, those people getting on the boats, you know, a right to be here know, have a right to be here under the migration deal. Know, have a right to be here under the migration deal. Well, under the migration deal. Well, we dont know that thats the case, do we . And there are there are. Channels available for are. Channels available for people from afghanistan to come here if they fall under the remit that allows them to come here. Im glad you mentioned that. Actually because the arap and the acr scheme, the official two schemes that the government has announced for afghans, the acr scheme has only brought 54 people over from afghanistan. People over from afghanistan. When there are loads, thousands of people actually left stuck 3500 actually stuck in pakistan and afghanistan and currently in hiding from the taliban , who do hiding from the taliban, who do have a right to claim asylum here in the United Kingdom. But they have not been brought over by the uk and for that reason, i dont know what the hold up is, but what my understanding is, is because theres refugees in hotels here in the uk that need to be emptied for those people to be emptied for those people to then be brought over. But the fact is that the uk has a different type of system for afghans than they do for ukrainians and for afghans. Theyre told to go through the normal immigration route, which theyre told to go through the normal intakesition route, which theyre told to go through the normal intakes decadese, which theyre told to go through the normal intakes decades and 1ich obviously takes decades and decades to go through. And if decades to go through. And if youre being hunted by the taliban, its not exactly the best route to wait for, goodness me. Well , listen, a me. Well, listen, a hugely complex issue. Permana assad complex issue. Permana assad interesting to get your perspective. A labour perspective. A labour councillor, but also somebody who from the taliban in who has fled from the taliban in afghanistan to seek a new afghanistan to seek well a new life here in the uk. Thanks very much. Now now the influential federation of Small Businesses has backed our dont kill Cash Campaign overjust six weeks, campaign over just six weeks, our petition to keep cash as legal tender for certainly a number of years to come has attracted more than 260,000 supporters. So we want a debate in parliament and as the move away from cash gathers pace, Small Businesses and self employed are raising concerns that Card Companies could actually monopolise on the shift and impose extra charges. Our economics and Business EditorLiam Halligan has this special report. London taxi driver Howard Taylor says cash now accounts for just a 10th of the money he takes each day. The money he takes each day. Like countless cabbies across britain, howard now relies on card payments with the company that facilitates such payments, taking 2 of everything he makes. But howard is concerned that as cash disappears , the card as cash disappears, the card payment firms will become even more dominant and could increase how much they charge or what happensin how much they charge or what happens in the future is anybodys guess. So ive got the game to themselves and there is no cash charge. What they like, no ones charge. What they like, no ones got any options. Got any options. And worries you . And that worries you . And that worries you . Yes. So, dont like yes. So, yeah, i dont like anybody to be in control of too much over everybody much control over everybody else. And especially when you talk basic as talk about something as basic as ones finances. Howards views, shared by countless other self employed and Small Business owners whove contacted gb news, the federation of Small Businesses, also worries that card Payment Companies could charge firms more as competition from cash disappears with higher charges being passed on in the form of higher consumer prices. So if we ended up with a cashless high street , then that cashless high street, then that is a big competitor to the Card Companies in terms of a Payment Method gone without that competitor , naturally that gives competitor, naturally that gives them more of a monopoly position. And so its not that much of a stretch of the imagination that they could then put up fees because for put up their fees because for a retailer may have no other retailer they may have no other way of taking payment. Since the covid pandemic , since the covid pandemic, more and more shops, cafes and pubs only accept card payments. Pubs only accept card payments. Yet 5 million of us in the uk still rely on cash every day, which accounts for 6 billion transactions a year. Thats why gb news has launched our dont kill Cash Campaign. An i call on kill Cash Campaign. An i call on the government says our petition to introduce legislation to protect the status of cash as legal tender and as a widely accepted means of payment in the uk until at least 2050. Over the last month, our campaigns attracted well over 250,000 signatures and were pushing for this issue to be debated in parliament. Please help us reach half a million by going to gbnews. Com forward slash cash and supporting our campaign. And and supporting our campaign. And when it comes to Card Companies potentially charging traders and taxi drivers, more Financial Consulting , lets say, thats consulting, lets say, thats actually already happening. When you make as a seller, a card payment , make when you make as a seller, a card payment, make a sale on a card payment, make a sale on a card , youre supposed to get card, youre supposed to get 99. 8 of the value. If its a debit card and 99. 7 if its a credit card. But the industry credit card. But the industry with. The agreement of the with. The agreement of the regulators who are supposed to police this allow that the deductions on card payments can go deductions on card payments can 9 up deductions on card payments can 90 p by deductions on card payments can go up by 7, up to 7. So it it already is costing. Thats a real danger. The card Payment Companies deny any abuse of market power, but cabbies like howard remain concerned that as we go cashless pay concerned that as we go cashless pay payment charges will rise. Pay payment charges will rise. Liam halligan gb news says its how they get you. Isnt it always the way . Well, listen, joining us for more analysis of this is the consumer lawyer, dean dunham. A very good morning to you. Do you see that that scenario playing out then, that as we go cashless those those penalties, those fees will rise . Fees will rise . Good morning. I think its good morning. I think its inevitable and i think we should say this. I mean, the reason why youre doing this campaign is because were already going there with this cashless society. Its happening. People are not realising its happening andifs are not realising its happening and its happening because banks are down branches. Are closing down branches. Theyre taking away cash machines. And as you said on the report, theyre cafes and other places are starting to say were not accepting cash. We are moving towards this area. And moving towards this area. And what it means is that , yes, what it means is that, yes, credit Card Companies , banks credit Card Companies, banks with debit cards will all start putting their prices up. It putting their prices up. It doesnt only affect business as business will obviously have to pay business will obviously have to pay more for the transactions , pay more for the transactions, but the real concern is twofold. Firstly, it means that it will hit consumers pockets. It will because it means that shops and traders will have to put their pnces traders will have to put their prices up. It also means that these traders will have to put their prices up. Theyll have to pay their prices up. Theyll have to pay more to the Card Companies who inevitably will keep on putting these prices up for them as well. But theres another important with this. You important element with this. You said on the report there that 5 Million People still use cash. I understand the regulator, the fca, tells us that a Million People actually dont even have a bank account. And we know that every day Bank Accounts are being closed. I mean, of course, weve the big news on this weve seen the big news on this recently about someones bank account closed. So what account being closed. So what happens then got no happens then if youve got no bank account . Knock bank account . The knock on effect often means that you lose your credit as well. We your credit cards as well. We cannot cash. And thats why cannot lose cash. And thats why your campaign is so important. Its important, though, isnt it . Not to pitch this as sort of anti plastic , if you like, anti plastic, if you like, because there are a lot of benefits to plastic and purchase protection and all those sorts of issues, never mind convenience. So its a case of maintaining the competition, isnt it. Isnt it. It is, stephen. Anyone that listens to me regularly knows i always go on about saying make sure when you buy goods and services as you use your debit or credit card because you get lots of protection. Weve got section 75, which is a protection you get when you use a credit card. And the chargeback scheme for debit cards. Course, we cant cards. So of course, we cant lose its very, very lose plastic. Its very, very important. Lose plastic. Its very, very important. But thats not lose plastic. Its very, very important. But thats not the important. But thats not the point that i make. The point that i make is in your in your report there, the word competition came up. And what competition came up. And what that means is there must be competition between cash and the plastic. And the other way the other methods of payments. Weve got apple pay, weve got other platforms now as well. These are all things. People are all good things. People are finding very useful things finding these very useful things as but if we do not have as well. But if we do not have competition, it means that people can be taken advantage of. And i said before, of. And as i said before, theres the other important element that many people either just do not want to pay with cash or have no other means of payment. And those people need to be looked after. Yeah i think at the heart of this, yeah , i at the heart of this, yeah, i was going to say, presumably quite often those people are perhaps a little bit older, but i think this also affects young consumers people are consumers, people who are growing ever really growing up not ever really seeing or coming into contact with seeing or coming into contact witiand as consumers, perhaps not and as consumers, perhaps not necessarily understanding necessarily really understanding the value of money or seeing how their outgoings are being spent, its just tap, tap or tap for everything in very physical everything in a very physical way that we all, you know, saved up our piggy bank or whatever it might be, and went to the shop. Young people just dont have that financial learning anymore. They dont. I anymore. They dont. N they dont. And i think the other thing weve learned during they dont. And i think the oth they dont. And i think the oth they dont. And i think the oth your name to that very long list. Theres lots on there, but dont let that hold you back. Now were going to get a little update on the weather. It was pounng update on the weather. It was pouring with rain when i left the house bright and early this morning. Proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news. Weather on. Gb news. Now some consider him the goat the greatest of all time. But should he be allowed to wear one . Were debating whether or not football pundit gary lineker should criticism from should face criticism from an animal group deciding Animal Rights group for deciding to mohair. Animal rights group for deciding to mohair. Thats after its 827. Good morning. Still its 827. Good morning. Still to come for you today, the labour party have pledged to employ 6500 specialist teachers in secondary schools. Does this work financially . Well talk to the shadow secretary of state for Northern Ireland, peter kyle i and then the woke mob are attempting to rebrand the traditional white vest from wife beater to wife. Please but will the revamped version prove to be popular . I have to say wife beater is an american term. Its a terrible phrase. Isnt it awful . Its an awful term, actually i the best, isnt it . At the end of the day, most people dont call them wife beaters over here. They just call it a vest. Anyway, they are awful. Well, anyway, they are awful. Well, what do you mean . The name or to wear just to look at on people really awful. Really awful. I can say this because my husband loves one on holiday. He cant cope with wearing t shirts to the beach. He wants to wear a wife beater and oh, i think weve reached the age now where im not sure he can pull it off anymore. Needs to work on his pecs. Needs to work on his pecs. Gb views. Gbnews. Com. Gb views. Gbnews. Com. Gb views. Gbnews. Com. Now gary lineker has been accused of supporting goat cruelty by the Animal Rights group peta after modelling a mohair suit for next. Campaigners claim that the retailer is profiteering from mohair , which is a controversial mohair, which is a controversial wool from angora goats, which they say is obtained through cruel and inhumane processes. Lets talk to kelly vowles, who thinks that gary lineker should wear more sustainable materials. Kelly youre a vegan. Whats a vegan position on. Whats a vegan position on wool per se . Do you support wool of any sort . Of any sort . Good morning. So so thats a really interesting question. It is one i get asked a lot because as many people would ask you argue that wool is a natural product that needs to be shed from sheep, but no, vegans dont support wearing any products from animals at all. Right. But thats different from saying something is cruel, isnt it . I mean, thats just a personal choice for whatever reason. But to actually come out and say that that mohair and the process of retrieving that from from these goats is cruel, just explain to us why that is different from ordinary wool. Different from ordinary wool. So mohair is traditionally only obtained by using metal combs that literally rake and pull the fur from the goat. Its pull the fur from the goat. Its a very cruel and barbaric practise. The goat is tethered usually by its head, so its basically restrained and as a prey animal. So that must be absolutely terrifying thing. So yeah. Absolutely terrifying thing. So yeah. And like, would you like yeah. And like, would you like to have your hair ripped out of your head . Absolutely not. So i think its absolutely barbaric to now be promoting clothing thatis to now be promoting clothing that is essentially doing the same thing. But to a goat. I mean, look, the problem ive got with this is i dont i dont know the detail , st giles. Dont know the detail, st giles. I mean, is it is it different to, say, grooming a dog where obviously you groom a dog or a cat , loads of obviously you groom a dog or a cat, loads of hair just comes out naturally . I mean, are we talking about Something Different to that . Different to that . Well, of course , you take well, of course, you take your dog to a dog groomer. Its going to be a lovely day, a lovely little appointment for them, isnt it . As i understand it , when you take your them, isnt it . As i understand it, when you take your dog to a groomer, theyre given lots of treats. Theyre actually put on a nice table. The restraints are way less barbaric than being tied up by your neck. Theyre tied up by your neck. Theyre given a nice stroke. If the dog given a nice stroke. If the dog became distressed , they would became distressed, they would stop the service, wouldnt they 7 stop the service, wouldnt they . A goat can scream all at once , but the people need this. You know. Someone needs the coach. They need the wool from the goat. Theyre not going to stop no matter how much that goat is. Protests at all day. So its completely different to say we are joined by a sheep farmer, gareth wyn jones can now tell us a little bit about what that process is like from his experience. It looks like youre wearing a wool jumper there. Gareth, good morning to you. Joining us from wales. Good morning to you. Joining us from wales. Is it your experience then that shearing or extracting mohair from a goat is crueller than for ordinary wool pubuchy crueller than for ordinary wool publicity bandwagon . Again, these people are a joke, honestly. You know , joke, honestly. You know, theyve got the biggest death toll youll have on any, um , toll youll have on any, um, but, you know, theyre killing 72 of the animals that they take in and theyre talking about animals that are being sheared. So we can use their wool or fur to make clothing. So totally disagree with you. This jump totally disagree with you. This jump has made out of three of my own sheep. Okay out of our own wool and it was handmade. Its an amazing material. It is totally biodegradable. It is totally biodegradable. It is totally biodegradable. It is totally good for the environment. And the sheep grow one every single year. So yeah, pets are an absolute joke. They shouldnt an absolute joke. They shouldnt they shouldnt even have the time of day on mainstream media, in my opinion. Yeah but its a fair point. Gareth, isnt it . If concern is being raised about the way that that mohair hair is gathered, i mean, if that if thatis gathered, i mean, if that if that is being done in a way which is cruel and unusual, that cant be right, can it . No farmer is going to be cruel to its animal because if you have a cruel farmer , that you have a cruel farmer, that animal is not going to produce meat, its not going to produce milk. You know, the animal has to be healthy, has to be happy to be healthy, has to be happy to be healthy, has to be happy to be producing something. So thats thats yeah. Again, thats the thats yeah. Again, maybe theyve got footage of 1 or 2, know , bad people or 2, you know, bad people within the industry. They try to within the industry. They try to do this exactly the same with boohoo and wool. 2019 take a look at my youtube page and my Facebook Page and you will see i went against these people and i proved them wrong and boohoo retracted their way of putting wool onto their clothing range. So yeah, totally disagree with these people. They are absolutely living in cuckooland i gareth, what about this email weve had in from a viewer called kevin in liverpool . Good morning to you kevin. He says watch a video of mohair being extracted and he says its one of disturbing things of the most disturbing things hes seen in his life. Are hes ever seen in his life. Are there different ways it can be extracted, i. E. You know, are there ways that are cruel and there ways that are cruel and there are ways that actually can be done safely and humanely . Be done safely and humanely . Well i still share the odd sheep with the old scissors, the guest, how they call it in welsh i so, you know, its still being done and okay, maybe theyve got footage of 1 or 2 people that have done this in a cruel way. But no farmer is going to be cruel to its animal because they know its not going to be producing. So, you know, i disagree and i say, well done to gary lineker for wearing something thats natural. Thats been produced. You know, these people want you to wear vegan leather. They want you to Wear Clothing that has cost the environment. Everything thats been produced by oil based and plastics. Its a joke , man. Its plastics. Its a joke, man. Its a joke. You wear leather. Ive got a leather hat on. Ive got a woollen jumper every things come from the animals. Everything is natural. Weve been living like this for generations , for this for generations, for thousands of years. We are hunter gatherers. We watch after our animals as farmers and we produce, you know, wool and fur as a by product. Produce, you know, wool and fur as a by product. And we are able as a by product. And we are able to use that in the fashion industry and it should be on the catwalks in milan and in london. Fashion week, spring wool back , fashion week, spring wool back, bnng fashion week, spring wool back, bring mohair back, bring more natural fibres like leather back into fashion. Okay look, weve got to leave it there because were out of time. Sadly. Gareth wyn jones. Kelly vowles, really good to see you both and thank you both for making points really making your points really clearly morning. Weve had clearly this morning. Weve had the next the statement through from next who selling that suit . They who was selling that suit . They say we only use mohair. That is certified to ms now thats the responsible mohair standard. All responsible mohair standard. All non ms certified mohair is banned at next. Let us know what you think about that debate. Its an interesting one, isnt it . I think weve all learned something anyway about whether or mohair is cruel, but or not mohair is cruel, but thats for now. Coming up, well be whether be asking whether Boris Johnsons symonds , johnsons wife, carrie symonds, should now become a social Media Influencer after making her Instagram Account pubuc thank you very much for your company. Yes. So george yes. Yes. So George Harrisons mum, she was an avid and diligent reply to all of his fan mail. And now its been been released. And in one letter in 1963, she writes to dear janet and saying says basically, dear janet that she she says , last janet that she she says, last wednesday i went to manchester and i was really disgusted at the way the so called fans just screamed right through the whole of the beatles act. Nobody with of the beatles act. Nobody with any sense would pay. And queue for tickets just to stand on a seat and scream and not hear one sound from the stage. I was really ashamed to be a woman , to really ashamed to be a woman, to be a female , and its obviously be a female, and its obviously of its time and you know, the rise of the teenager, the hysteria, the hysteria of the teenage year. And you can see the change from country and western and classics to this wild teenagers literally playing just to be in the peasants and going mad. She didnt like it. Do you know what ive got some sympathy. I took my to niece a vamps concert a few years ago and there was and i stood next to this woman with her daughter or whoever, and we just looked at each other at one point because shes surrounded by thousands of teenage girls literally screaming, you couldnt hear. I no, i was one of them. I was such an the vamps concert, that vamps concert. Boyzone fan. That vamps concert. Boyzone fan. Boyzone, boyzone girl. Boyzone, boyzone girl. Its very chewy. Do you know what i mean . Its like a delicacy, but its great with the stuff you put with it. Its lovely, but its not very nice. No calamari from a 3d printer. It defeats the object. Printer. It defeats the object. What would you 3d print, chris, if you could . Careful wise. If i could. If i chris, if you could . Careful wise. If i could. If i could 3d wise. If i could. Oh, lovely looking. Oh, lovely looking. Idyllic. Anyway from frazzled parenting captions, pregnancy photo shoots and fashion shout outs, her followers think she should take on a new career as a british mum influencer . Yeah. British mum influencer . Yeah. You know, because shes like the rest of us all. Every day in normal. Normal. Well, lets get the thoughts of the editor at large at the mail on sunday. Charlotte griffiths. Very good morning to you, charlotte. We may scoff, but actually she has shes got that kind of appeal that shes going to get brands wanting to post pictures of her wearing or eating or going to their product at presumably. Yeah, presumably last night she tweeted a bright yellow beret and she said it was bringing some sunshine into the autumn. And it was by cabbage and roses, which is a small brand in britain. And she would have bought massive , you know, bought massive, you know, attention to that tiny little brand. So kind of good for her, i think. Im sure the brand are thrilled this morning. And then i had a quick look this morning in 13 hours ago. She posted a picture of herself breastfeeding frankie and said how much shes going to miss breastfeeding him and actually and kind of insinuating actually that might be she might not have any children. And yeah any more children. An and yeah i mean shes shes kind of doing the pros and the cons of being a mum. The late nights but the jazzy clothes that she can presumably get for free she is a mum influencer thats what shes doing. So. Doing. I think so. Nonsense though isnt it, charlotte . Mean these charlotte . I mean all these influencers, the influencers, i mean the influencers, i mean the influencer from , from influencer thing is from, from the perspective is the whole perspective is nonsense all about, nonsense because its all about, i shes a, shes a very i mean shes a, shes a very posh young woman with loads of cash that most of us have, can have no connection with anything that she does or wants or how she lives at all. Its just not real, is it, for the vast majority of people in this country . Country . Well, you know , its so much well, you know, its so much more real than those private jet. I mean, people, everyone curates their instagram. Okay . There are people on there who instagram themselves getting on to private jets with their children and drinking champagne and people flocked to those accounts as well, even though we can never to hope be an influencer with private jet. Influencer with a private jet. So shes kind of actually been quite careful not to too be flashy. And i think actually that part the reason shes that part of the reason shes even this account is even set up this account is because we all assume because of her £840 war paper that she is quite flashy. And when her Instagram Account was closed because she was the wife of the Prime Minister there was a void in which we, the media, we people just in general assume that she was this incredible diva. And what shes done by diva. And what shes done by opening up her instagram is say, oh, no, im not so much of a diva. I frolic in fields with my friends. Im a bridesmaid at my non famous friends scottish wedding. Here i am breastfeeding in the middle of the night. So shes actually trying to be real. I think by opening up her Instagram Account. And its not particularly flashy, i would say no. Didnt she hire a Wedding Dress as well . Or borrow a Wedding Dress and sent that back, which is sort of supposed to be hugely sustainable. But you say its not that flashy. I mean, follow a few of the mean, i follow a few of the brands that ended up being brands that have ended up being promoted inadvertently brands that have ended up being prcthe ed inadvertently brands that have ended up being prcthe picture vertently brands that have ended up being prcthe picture thatently brands that have ended up being prcthe picture that itly brands that have ended up being prcthe picture that i think so the picture that i think weve of her breastfeeding weve got of her breastfeeding frankie, baby, frankie, her latest baby, theres palmer theres an alice palmer lampshade i follow alice lampshade and i follow alice palmer, small british designer who does lots of interior stuff. And i actually looked at how much they cost. I mean they, they cost a pretty penny. So not flashy, but quietly expensive, i would dare say. Would dare to say. Yes. Alice palmer is one of those expensive brands, but also alice palmer is one of those brands that a lot of mums and young women sort of save up all year round to get to get an alice palmer lampshade once a yeah alice palmer lampshade once a year. Thats just thats just a trend. You know, people do have 1 or 2 expensive lampshades, you know, that one is particularly expensive and we do know she does use sewn the does actually use sewn the interior designer, which is incredibly expensive. But but, but, you know , its an but, you know, its an aspirational account. You know , aspirational account. You know, so i think i think shes shes not ramming it in our face. Shes not saying here i am on a on a chopper going to saint tropez because my ex husband, my husband is the ex Prime Minister. Is she . Not yet. Maybe she will. We never know. Dont rule it out. Never know. Dont rule it out. She looks like shes having a lovely life. Although three children five rather children under five rather her than frankly, i think than me, quite frankly, i think shes doing it on her own. No, possibly not. If shes off frolicking, it does. Says shes quite look, she says shes quite exhausted. Exhausted. Well , it is tiring going id well, it is tiring going to festivals and all of these things. But you know, youre right. The whole idea of influencers, its aspirational. It doesnt have to be real. Its a bit of escapism for us all. And i think shes found a niche in the market. I think shed probably do pretty well out of it and us journos will probably enjoy ponng journos will probably enjoy poring it all at her poring over it all at her expense a little bit as well. So there go. There we go. Charlotte, good to see you this morning. Thank you very much indeed. This morning. Thank you very much indeed. I this morning. Thank you very much indeed. I dont know what much indeed. I dont know what you make it all. Im im very you make of it all. Im im very sceptical, but im also very sceptical, but im also very sceptical the idea that loads sceptical of the idea that loads of you out there are desperately saving all your money, your saving all your money, all your money year round to buy money all year round to buy a lampshade. Dont think so. Probably more worried about putting the fridge. Putting food in the fridge. There you go. Listen, lets take a look at the forecast. And theres no sign that this government and maybe no other government, but certainly the this government has really got a grip the first thing grip of it. Look the first thing to try to ensure is that migrants do not believe theyll get a better deal if they come to the uk. You know, with to the uk. You know, with millions being spent every day on hotels , a lot of them arent on hotels, a lot of them arent going to be persuaded of that. Secondly weve got to try and be sure that when the people arrive uninvited on our shores, they cannot then have lawyers clustering around and courts only too ready to offer assistance to them. There is absolute no reason why the government shouldnt take away the rights of people who arrive. Oh dear. Unfortunately we seem to have lost that link, which is a real shame. Were just hearing there from david mellor, former chief secretary to the treasury, with strong views on the situation with the migrant crisis. But the good news is can continue good news is we can continue this debate and widen as well this debate and widen it as well with peter carl, who is the shadow secretary of state for Northern Ireland, joins us this morning. First of all, your morning. And first of all, your views migrant views on the ongoing migrant crisis following on from boat week last week in which the government was trying to highlight that they were highlight all that they were doing resulted tragically doing and it resulted tragically early saturday with early on saturday night with these channel. These drownings in the channel. What would labour do differently to what the current government is doing . Is doing . Well, we need to have a fundamental rethink. Look, dont forget that were now talking about because of this memo about five years into the future, if we go five years back into the past, there were 430 cross channel migrants for hundred and 30, theres now 46,000 predicted to come this yeah 46,000 predicted to come this year. This has been a problem thats been growing and growing and growing. And rather than actually looking at the fundamental posed by fundamental challenges posed by it find solutions it to and try and find solutions to those fundamental challenges, this government that has this is a government that has constantly gone for headlines rather than solutions. Ltns so rather than solutions. Ltns so unless we go for those fundamental solutions, were not going problem. So going to solve the problem. So what they . Lets look what are they . Lets look at three separate firstly, three separate issues. Firstly, people smuggling of people smuggling the number of convictions for of people smugglers has fallen 23. So why dont we use the money thats being wasted on rwanda being wasted on the Rwanda Programme a new task programme and set up a new task force within the National Crime agency to go after those people smugglers, them , lock smugglers, convict them, lock them up. When we look at the two other challenges that we face, the factors that are driving migrants their home migrants from their home countries in the first place. If we look at we look at we look at yemen, we look at afghanistan, we see conflict and we see political instability. If we see political instability. If we see political instability. If we to be working again we need to be working again because britain has withdrawn from diplomatically in terms from diplomatically and in terms of Engagement Development of engagement and Development Work these work from many of these countries as we to making countries as we need to making sure we can create the circumstances where fewer people feel the need to leave in the first and then finally, first place, and then finally, number to start number three, weve got to start working our neighbouring working with our neighbouring countries a really productive countries in a really productive way that countries that way so that those countries that migrants move through. Are migrants move through. We are part of the solution to try and make sure that migrants dont keep on that journey, that they can the problem can be solved before it reaches our shores and in particular france. Okay, well, well come back to that. I just want to pick up on your point about working with these countries like yemen or afghanistan, whatever might afghanistan, whatever it might be. I mean, how would you propose doing that . Because those sorts of cost those sorts of things cost money. You talking money. Are you talking about raising budget, raising the foreign aid budget, for try and improve for example, to try and improve stability sorts stability in these sorts of countries . Of course, countries . Because, of course, that a cost to the that comes at a cost to the taxpayer . Taxpayer . It does. But so all of these problems are linked. You have to understand the complexity and the just how deep the hole this government have driven us in when comes these issues. When it comes to these issues. So let me you two examples. So let me give you two examples. Firstly asylum, the people firstly each asylum, the people who are working in the home office on Asylum Office working on asylum applications, their productivity has 50, fallen. So has fallen by 50, fallen. So theyre now producing, theyre now actually processing half the number of cases than they were five years ago. And then secondly , if we look at the secondly, if we look at the countries that were working in, we are now the aid budget has been diverted from in country to hotels. So from our hotels. So from our International Aid budget, we are spending £6 million every single day to house Asylum Seekers within the United Kingdom. That is money were not spending abroad. So all these problems are linked together. If we can solve the administration problem of Asylum Seekers, if we can solve the challenge of Asylum Seekers as theyre moving across the European Union and other countries , if we can solve the countries, if we can solve the challenges, then there then of course we can use that money were spending in hotels in the uk and we use it back there. Uk and we can use it back there. Where we did many years ago where we did a many years ago when the Labour Government was running in running things, using it in country. Now have withdrawn country. We now have withdrawn all military support for all of our military support for many these countries. We many of these countries. We withdrawn and withdrawn our development and aid for many of these aid support for many of these countries and therefore were paying countries and therefore were paying were just paying the price. Were just paying paying the price. Were just paying it for a different in a different place. Were not supporting country. Supporting them in country. Were them in were now supporting them in hotels in our own country. These challenges need solving. Theyre always better solved at source , always better solved at source, otherwise we pay a much bigger, more complicated price for it. As were seeing today. I dont want to just stick on one issue in a way, mr kyle , but one issue in a way, mr kyle, but im staggered , frankly, because im staggered, frankly, because to say that, you know, we solved the migration problem by yemen and you used as an example by investing more in a country like yemen, that is a that is a country with fundamental problems. Are you saying britain can go into a place like yemen and we can solve those problems 7 and we can solve those problems . We can stop people wanting to leave that country because thats nonsense, isnt it. Thats nonsense, isnt it. Well, if you look at what we achieved in government before , achieved in government before, after the after the after the gleneagles g7 summit, dont forget, we in the Labour Government chose a g7 summit that we were chairing to solve some of these global problems in the first place. As a result of that. So in the years that followed up until 2010 with the Labour Government, seven of followed up until 2010 with the Labour Government , seven of the Labour Government, seven of the 15 Fastest Growing economies in the world were african countries that previously had had some of the challenges that were now talking about. Now im not saying you can solve the really difficult issues in yemen very, very quickly, but are you really suggesting that doing nothing is going to produce a better result than doing something now . There will always be issues, particularly where if we look at places like nigeria at the moment, that has plummeted into armed civil conflict , there will armed civil conflict, there will always be driving factors for migration. Thats not what im saying, that we can solve all of those issues. But lets just look at what weve done. Theres been two periods in recent times, a period where we were active in solving some of these challenges in countries and a penod challenges in countries and a period now, period where we havent. Now, look at the look at the disingenuous issues that have affected us on our on. Disingenuous issues that have affeforgive on our on. Disingenuous issues that have affe forgive me our on. Disingenuous issues that have affeforgive me for on. Disingenuous issues that have affe forgive me for interrupting, forgive me for interrupting, but limited time. But were limited on time. I mean, up to 2010, we had mean, compare up to 2010, we had the arab springs in 2011. We know what the implications were for well and thats for libya as well and how thats been used very much for this influx of migrants. And weve influx of migrants. And weve had so many other issues. The rise of Climate Change, the penod rise of Climate Change, the period before 2010 was a bygone era, and its really incomparable now, stephen says. I do think its quite a far fetched suggestion that actually, if we as a country could go in and fix all of these problems, people wouldnt be on this of global migration this kind of global migration that all countries in the world are moment. Are experiencing at the moment. For the reasons ive just for all of the reasons ive just listed. Listed. So course what im not so of course what im not saying, and ill say it for the second time, is that britain can solve the worlds problems single we are so single handedly, but we are so passive on the world stage passive now on the world stage that were even trying, and that were not even trying, and yet are now suffering a huge yet we are now suffering a huge recession. Now, also, look at what earlier. We need what i said earlier. We need to use that were wasting use the money that were wasting on rwanda scheme and start on the rwanda scheme and start locking up people smugglers because smuggling an because people smuggling is an industry expanded as industry which is expanded as a result of the increased migration coming across the European Union and European Countries and landing on our shores. Were doing nothing. Convictions for people smuggling has fallen 23 in the last few years, 23 it has fallen. While the problem is getting bigger. So why arent we targeting on these issues, setting up a new Centre Within the National Crime agency tasked with finding rooting out , prosecuting and rooting out, prosecuting and locking up people smugglers . Because were not doing it at the moment. So these this is the comprehensive set of measures because you did ask me at the beginning what a comprehensive solution would look like. And those are the different those are all the Different Things ive outlined. Now, things that ive outlined. Now, if doing these things, if we were doing these things, we spending £6 we wouldnt be spending £6 million a year a day on hotels. We wouldnt need barges and we could focus on Proper Solutions rather than headline grabbing raffles, which is what this government is obsessed with. And because theyre so focussed on headlines, theyre not asking the basic questions such as why arent ministers asking if there is a barge which is being brought to our country and is so rusty that it needed work done on it to make it safe , worthy to on it to make it safe, worthy to travel across. The channel, then travel across. The channel, then is it safe for human habitation . Have the tests been done . Ministers werent even asking because they were so busy trying to create a row in public that they thought would be politically advantageous for them you focus on headlines them if you focus on headlines rather than focusing on solutions, it will always come back to bite you. And that is the story this government. The story of this government. Were squeezed im sorry that were squeezed for so that the issue you for time so that the issue you actually wanted to talk about today is squeezed down to a little of headline, im little bit of a headline, im afraid. But the labour party afraid. But but the labour party is promising new expert teachers for schools and how do for secondary schools and how do you fund it . How quickly can you get. Online get it. Online well, im always here to answer your questions as well, you know, but with this, what what were finding is that of the 30 subjects being taught in state schools at the moment, 23 of them have have in the last year had fewer experts in the classroom teaching them. So 80 of engineering, for example, more than half of computer lesson are being taught by non experts. So what we want to do is get 6500 new expert teachers , world class teachers teachers, world class teachers into every classroom so that we can get those subjects being taught by experts. Once again, were going to pay for this by cancelling the tax status for the tax break that private schools get. So its a fully funded measure. It will take a while, obviously. But obviously what were trying to do at the moment as we approach the election put forward election is put forward implementable funded, implementable, fully funded, fully plans so that we fully costed plans so that we can hit the ground running from a position of government. This is a programme for government. We every problem we cant solve every problem overnight me, were overnight but believe me, were the party that has the plans and the party that has the plans and the fully costed plans ready to go for when we have the opportunity. Should we have the opportunity next year or whenever election comes . Whenever the election comes . Education on this education secretary on this topic, keegan , says just topic, gillian keegan, says just look labours record in wales i theyve ema teachers m teachers numbers theyve seen teachers numbers fall 2010, whereas fall since 2010, whereas conservative england has conservative run england has seen an increase of over 27,000. So you cant really argue against that, can you . Against that, can you . Well, what weve seen when labouris well, what weve seen when labour is in westminster government, in westminster , government, in westminster, working in partnership with the devolved authorities, whether they be across england or across they be across england or across the countries of the United Kingdom, you see standards rising and you see waiting lists for other Public Services like nhs, for thing. At the moment we have dysfunction baked in right here at westminster and that dysfunction is spreading right across the United Kingdom. Just across the United Kingdom. Just look at whats happening in Northern Ireland at the moment where devolved authority has collapsed altogether again because of the dysfunction here in westminster. What we need in westminster. So what we need to partnership to do is get a partnership between the government here in westminster, across the uk, working all of the devolved working with all of the devolved authorities and when you see that, see standards rising that, you see standards rising in schools, attainment rising in schools. Right now, we have schools. But right now, we have a problem where were not even till of next year going till the end of next year going to the same per pupil to see the same per pupil funding in schools that we had when labour left office in 2010. Thats be 14 wasted thats going to be 14 wasted years where teachers have been struggling more and more and more class sizes, a more with growing class sizes, a reduction number of reduction in the number of lessons that being taught. Lessons that are being taught. More 50 of music more than 50 of music competitive sport is arts and expressive subjects, socially developmental subjects being withdrawn from teaching in state schools. Thats why weve seen a doubung schools. Thats why weve seen a doubling in the gap in attainment between the state sector and the private sector. The biggest growth between north and south in attainment and the biggest growth, most shockingly, between those students who come from affluent backgrounds and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. These inequalities backgrounds. These inequalities are baked into the system. Are being baked into the system. We the plans thats to we need the plans thats to going that, and going start targeting that, and its got start with having a its got to start with having a great world class teacher in every classroom. Carl really good peter carl its really good to you this morning. To talk to you this morning. Thanks very much. Thank you. Right. Right. Well, yes, lots say there. Well, yes, lots to say there. Well, probably here to stay in the uk as long as we have warm as long as we have any warm weather which actually could be good it means good news because it means it wont for very long. Wont be here for very long. Why is that the well, why is it that the white vest got such a bad white vest has got such a Bad Reputation all been reputation and all weve been talking this morning, talking about it this morning, being beater, which is being the wife beater, which is which is what its known as in the states. Thankfully has its thats thankfully has never off never really taken off as a phrase over here, has it not . Well, listen, ive certainly heard it bandied around and it did spring to my mind this morning when i knew i was going to talking about this. It did to be talking about this. It did have really Bad Reputation. It have a really Bad Reputation. It kind of connotations of kind kind of had connotations of kind of like, i dont know, i always imagined it with bit imagined it with a bit of a ketchup stain or a bit of ketchup stain on it or a bit of a sweat stain. It was like just something people really something that people who really didnt care about their appearance wore. And and appearance wore. And lo and behold, and behold, fast forward to now. And its height of fashion and its the height of fashion and its the height of fashion and its people really care its people who really care about appearance that are about their appearance that are wearing and generally wearing them and generally tanned, them. Well, thats key, isnt well, thats the key, isnt it . You know, tanned and it . And, you know, tanned and toned perhaps pull toned people perhaps can pull them the vast majority them off. But the vast majority of humble maybe of us humble folk, maybe beachwear acceptable is beachwear is acceptable or is that difference . You see a lot that a difference . You see a lot of people these kind of of people with these kind of like baggy, sort of airy like hugely baggy, sort of airy wife or white vests. I wife beaters or white vests. I mean, is that a sort of different type of vest that were talking were talking about the tight fitted seen about the tight fitted wrap seen . Of look. It . Nesbitt kind of look. It definitely made it out of the gym for a while. I think it was something that kind of people that were really into like working out and had muscly arms would wear. And they were definitely kind of were definitely that kind of baggier what were baggier look. But what were seeing is pristine white seeing now is pristine white vests tight on vests that are very tight on toned they did i mean, you toned men. They did i mean, you could argue it did come the could argue it did come from the runway. Bottega runway. Love a prada, bottega veneta, all showed them in veneta, they all showed them in their shows i their runway shows and then i think what happens is if influencers get hold of the trend, start trend, suddenly people start seeing instagram and seeing it on instagram and tiktok. Before you know it, tiktok. And before you know it, everybody the everybody you know, in the supermarket queue is wearing a white vest. I have to say, for yeah, i have to say, for those who dont follow all these sort of fashions or look at prada and things like that , men prada and things like that, men have been wearing white vests for immemorial. Never for time immemorial. Its never gone away. Have you ever worn one under a suit . Yeah. Well in all the time, its never gone away. No, granddad , i think you could granddad, i think you could argue it did go away, but its definitely back in. Well, you could argue a good or a bad way now. Well thats exciting. Amber graafland. There with her finger on the pulse on all things fashion. Thanks very much indeed. Been indeed. On the vest, ive been convinced. Been convinced . I like a vest. I like a vest. Yeah, but would you wear one just on its own . Milton keynes Shopping Centre there in your vest . Yeah, well , youve Shopping Centre there in your vest . Yeah, well, youve heard it first. It here first. Me for that. Why not . Get me out for that. Why not . Get me out for that. Why not . Right thats it from us. Right. Thats it from us. Well be back bright and early tomorrow.
