Gastonia gears up for Trash Week 2021 The Gaston Gazette Just in time for spring cleaning, Gastonia will once again allow residents to celebrate Free Excess Household Trash Week. This year's spring free trash week -- when city workers haul away large or bulky household trash items without charging a fee -- falls between March 22-26, on customers' regular trash collection day. “We are already starting to gear up for this popular service that we offer to our residents,” said Solid Waste Division Director DeeDee Gillis. “We have been answering calls weeks in advance of the date.” During the most recent free week, held last September, the city set a record with 560 tons of unwanted items removed from Gastonia curbsides.
