Funding boost for net zero cold food chain plans Share Food cold chain sustainability part of £2.9m award to University of Birmingham to support energy-related projects Researchers have secured £1.4m of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funding to produce a landmark roadmap for how the UK's extensive cold food chain industry can curb its significant emissions. The University of Birmingham is leading the four-year project, which aims to set out the ways the cold food chain can align with the UK's climate goals whilst remaining competitive, it announced late last week. Academics from Heriot-Watt University, London South Bank University, and Cranfield University are also involved in the government-backed project, which will bring together scientists, innovators, customers, and retailers to map a whole-system approach to reducing the emissions impact of the sector.
