Zero visibility at thiS Point. Just unbelievable. [winds] bret the early effects of milton are here. We begin with a Fox Weather Alert. Hurricane milton heading toward Coastal Florida right now. Again, the first part of that hitting land. It is a category 3 system down from a 5 earlier. But it is bringing lifethreatening Storm Surge as much as 13 feet with 120 mileperhour winds and the potential for many, many tornadoes, some actually have already been spotted all over the ground throughout Coastal Florida on the gulf coast. Milton is bearing down on that area near Tampa Bay and points south. Youre looking live at nay Pells Courtesy of Earth Cam. Millions of people live in that hurricane zone. Many of them, fortunately, have already evacuated. Authorities now say the window to leave that area has closed. We will talk live with florida governor Ron Desantis in just a few moments. We have Fox Team Conch tonight. Jacqui heinrich at the White House with the Biden Harris Administration are doing about this. Adam klotz at the Fox Weather Center in New York to tell us Weather Milton is headed and what it looks like. We begin with Correspondent Steve Heir began who is live in tampa. Good evening, steve. Steve good evening, bret. The rain here just coming down in sheets. Real concerns about where this eye is going to make landfall. A worst Case Scenario would be just north of tampa. I have been here for 38 years and never had one that forced us to do this. Steve bracing for impact. The state of florida nervously counting down and ramping up preparations until Hurricane Milton makes landfall. What were looking at is a storm of the century. It goes a bit south, thats the best Case Scenario, but its not good. Steve as much as 15foot of Storm Surge, up to a foot and a half of rain iS Predicted, a deadly combination that will cause catastrophic flooding. Some buildings being washed away by damaging waive action. Locations may be uninhabitable for extended period. There it is on the ground. Another concern tornadoes already touching down across the state, including in Fort Myers. This happened like instantaneously. With mandatory Evacuation Warnings across 11 counties affecting nearly 6 Million people, many tried to gas up and get out. But Gas Buddy reports more than 60 of stations in the tampa st. Petersburg area do not have fuel. Thousands also headed to shelters. Everybody is worried about the same thing, you know. Do you have a home to come back to . Some 9,000 National Guard soldiers, 50 Thundershowers Utility workers, and dozens of Emergency Vehicles are lined up and ready to deploy. Tampa general hospital is hoping to remain open and dry by, again, putting up an Aqua Fence to stop any Storm Surge. And while fema says it iS Prepared with Search And Rescue teams, medical workers, water and food, that is not putting everyone at ease. Im scared. This is catastrophic. Two in the same within a matter of two weeks is unheard of. Steve already more than 100,000 people have lost electricity and that number before the storm is over likely to climb well above 1 million. Storm moving 15 mileS Per hour those winds at 120 mileS Per hour. As you can tell sitting offshore the effects are being felt across the state, especially there along Interstate 4 and then places to the north. Thats where the Heavy Rain is. Its spots to the south that we have seen unbelievable tornado outbreak, over 120 tornado warned storms so far this afternoon. Ive never seen anything like this as far as tornadoes go. Now, its not uncommon to see a tornado but to sees a many as we have so far today. Its been this kind of line that they have continued to spin up and will continue to although currently this is beginning to push out over the atlantic. The risk is still going to be there throughout the entire overnight hours. Back to that center of circulation where the hurricane itself is, we are getting really close to land at thiS Point. Sitting just a little over 40 miles off the coast of sarasota. Thats the spot right now where you are looking at that flashing green box, that is a flash flood warning. The rain is absolutely coming down, particularly on this northern end of the eye wall. Some of these outer areas. We are going to see absolute downpours, rain is going to be really heavy. Our Forecast Track as we have gotten so close, really kind of bullseying in here, maybe just south of sarasota, anywhere north of tampa. These are the possible places where you could see a landfall. Where does the storm go . It tracks across the state, south of i 4 there and then back out to sea. This is going to be a storm, bret have to watch all night long. He was questioned and during which he questioned former president donald trumpS Patriotism in that speech. Former president s lies are unamerican in his words. The Bidenharris Administration pushing back on accusations it haS Politicized the response to Hurricane Helene as they wait for milton. Senior correspondent Jacqui Heinrich live on the North Lawn with the story tonight, jacqui. Jacqui evening, after touting a surge of federal resources to respond to milton, President Biden calling out by name former President Trump and republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor greene for spreading misinformation about the storm. Making for a political moment as the administration tr tries to direct all americans to sources of good information. Unamerican. Its unamerican. Jacqui President Biden teeing off On Trump for a second time today after first decrying what he calls reckless lies undermining public confidence about the federal response to Hurricanes Helene and milton. Former President Trump has led the onslaught of lies. Assertions have been made that property is being confiscated. Thats simply not true. They are saying people in fact these storms receive 750 in cash and no more. Thats simply not true. But the Administrations Effort to depoliticize the storms during a Fema Briefing follows the Vice President teeing off On Trump in a late night interview. Have you no empathy, man, if you purport to be a leader to understand that being a leader means lifting people up in a time of need. [applause] and not manipulating them. Republicans say the white House Effort Toe factcheck is glossing over some truths. Military response with military helicopters brought in, there is hundreds of them within flying distance of these areas, it took more than a week to get those assets in place. By contrast, during the haiti earthquake, Barack Obama was able to get military assets within two days to haiti. Biden canceled planned travel to Germany And Angola to hymn the response from the White House. Is he going to be laser focused on that as well as the Vice President. But harris is carrying on with Campaign Events in Nevada And Arizona tomorrow and friday even as her team insists governor Ron Desantis should be taking her calls. The Vice President is engaged in thiS Process, too. Vice president harris is making an effort to show involvement in the storm response, calling into the Weather Channel today, something she has not done before. And asking questions in a Fema Briefing. At one point telling her staff the broadcast was live on a Hot Mike. Well, the president has swatted Back Criticism of his response to Hurricane Helene, which he monitored from delaware. The White House still has not confirmed where he will be spending this weekend even though he did cancel hiS Plans to travel abroad, bret. Bret Jacqui Heinrich live on the North Lawn. Jacqui, thank you. Lets get the latest on Hurricane Milton and where the state of florida stands right now from florida governor Ron Desantis. Governor, thank you for the time. I know you are busy. What is your biggest concern at this hour . Well, we want people to be safe. We have had a massive evacuation. Most people heeded those calls. When you start talking about 10, 15 feet of Storm Surge, thats just mother nature. Youre not going to win that but we are prepared, we have the largest national Guard Mobilization in the history of the state to respond for Search And Rescue. We also have our county and local first responders, so that effort will be robust should it be necessary. We have also staged over 50,000 utility workers. So they are in the state of florida. They have been brought from all over the country. And so as soon as this storm passes, they are going to be beginning power restoration. We did a very quick restoration after helene 2. 4 million. We are likely to have more Power Outages on this one. Now, this storm is likely going to arrive quicker than what we were advised a day ago. Probably between 8 00 and 9 00. Yesterday it was maybe 1 00. It is going to cut across the state of florida. I would just tell floridians obviously on that west coast, thats been the focus, but this is going to have impacts broader than that we have already seen a rash of tornadoes that have spun off in variouS Parts of the state of florida. And when it exits on the East Coast of florida, probably in like brevard county, thats going to produce some Storm Surge on the North Side of the storm going the other way. People just need to buckle up for the next 24 hours and know theres a lot of hazards out there. Bret we talked to a bar owner, sent his wife and kids up north. And then he stayed with the dog. Take a listen. I elected to stay because my priority iS Protecting our home. This is my house. This is for my family. My business is down the road. We want to make sure that were here. We also want to keep our property safe, our businesses safe. After helene, theres a lot of uncertainty and a lot of fear. Bret what do you say to him, governor . At thiS Point its too late, really. Well, right. I think at thiS Point you got to hunker down. There are some people who did not want to evacuate because they were worried about the security of their property. Were a Law And Order stated. We will hold looters accountable. Youre not going to want to mess with this. We have brought in massive numbers of Law Enforcement officers from outofstate to supplement our local municipal and county sheriffs departments, and they are going to be present. And people are not going to get away with messing with anyoneS Property. I also, in my Executive Order for this one, over the weekend, i said you have a right to return to your property, we have had issues with local government saying oh, you cant go back to your house until we say so. No, you have a right to go back, if there is some major hazard like a bring is not safe or something, thats one thing. But we are going to get people back to their homes. So the folks that are concerned about their property who did evacuate, just know we are going to have Law Enforcement there. Were not going to let the inmates run the asylum on the heals of this storm. And you will be able to go back to your property and inspect it as soon aS Possible. Bret you also talked to President Biden numerous time and federal officials. Wondering what you feel about this focus on misinformation and the comments about it . I know you heard Jacqui HeinrichS Piece about the president saying its unpatriotic, its unamerican. And he said former President Trump was behind that. So heres what i would say. My job is to manage thiS Process and lead the state through. This i am using every lever at my disposal, including federal government resources. I have martialled all the agencies in the state government, and were working like never before to supplement our local communities. I have got to get the job done. And thats what im focused on. Now, people have asked me about let me be clear in florida. We run the show. Fema is not running the show. We will utilize them to support some of the things were doing, but you are not going to see Fema Running Amok in florida. I know thats been out there on the internet. That is not going to happen. Im the sheriff thats in charge here. And we will make sure to protect you. Dont worry about it. Bret i heard what you said about Vice President harris and the Phone Call. Did she ever get through . You know, bret, like i said. My job is to Marshall Resources and work with everybody to have an effective response. And she thinks it should be about her. If i honestly thought that there was something to be gained, i would pick up the phone and call her. The fact of the matter is she has no role in thiS Process.
