Both candidates hoping to move the needle for those small number of undecideds in the key battlegrounds where the race for the White House remains a tossup. Dana for harris especially this moment is very important. It will be one of the few times this Election Cycle she has answered questions. Kellyanne conway on what that means for tonight. There is no unplowed ground left for Donald Trump. We have seen and heard it all. He has been through it all. Investigations, insults. Impeachments, indictments, convictions, assassins bullet. He has survived it all and survive on the Debate Stage tonight. I think they will regret not exercising the muscles to debate President Trump. The Trump Team has said that trying to prepare to debate former President Trump would be like trying to prepare to go up against mohammad ali. Trump has had so much practice fielding the unscripted questions on the campaign trail. Practice that the campaign says the Vice President has opted out of. Weve had the big huge Press Conferences that are unscripted. Questions from many of you. We have had the long form interviews. Weve had the shorter pull asides. Weve had the rally speeches. Weve done town halls. You cant prepare for President Trump. There is no way to do it. The Trump Campaign is confident but wont be winging it this evening. Debate advice is coming in from allies and shared by former congresswoman an Democrat Tulsi Gabbard who faced off against harris in the primary. She is talented on the Debate Stage. No question. She will have a tough time trying to defend the record that from the view of the american people is indefensible. The Harris Campaign has spent a lot of time working through talking points. Staged dynamics. Five days in pittsburgh doing Mock Debates including a trump standin. When she is preparing for her debate she wants to try to insure she understands the kind of things that the former president may say. The proposals he will outline, attacks that he may try to land. There is No Doubt that she has been doing a lot of scripted events since she got into the race. She hasnt done many media interactions. She will have to do more. This is the biggest test. Were excited about tonight and the opportunity that the Vice President has to continue to introduce herself to a wider swath of the american Electorate And Contrast her vision for where she wants to take this country against Donald Trump who wants to take us backwards through his project 2025 agenda. As it relates to the broader strategy, right . We understand that we have to be aggressive here over the course of the final two months of this campaign. So thats why tonight is important for the contrast that we can provide to the american people. It is why immediately following this debate were going to honor 9 11 and hit the road immediately thereafter and do our new way forward to making sure theyre crisscrossing the Battleground States. It is an opportunity for the Vice President to introduce herself, make sure that people understand the choice between her positive forwardlooking vision, new way forward for the american people, against Donald Trumps dangerous backwards looking agenda. And so well have that tonight but continue to press the case for the remainder of this campaign. Bill you saw that New York Times poll that came out the other day. This is one of the items they were asking. They wanted to know do you need to know more about Kamala Harris . The numbers are stark. 1829, 53 say yes. Hispanics 43. Among those who did not vote in 2020, the number is 48 . So trump is going to get up there tonight and say 3 1 2 years. What are you waiting for . What is she going to say when that happens . Yeah, listen, remains to be seen what Donald Trump says. His team decided to overrule him and muzzled him on the Debate Stage. Regardless which version of Donald Trump shows up on the Debate Stage, it is an opportunity for the Vice President , right, to communicate her vision for where she wants to take this country when it comes to the Economy Talk about The Ways she wants to make sure middle class families can get ahead. Talk about her plan for a middle Class Tax Cut against Trumpss Plan for a tax increase. Talk about the work she wants to do to lower costs as weve discussed oh than this program today. She will talk about the work that she wants to do to lower housing costs, the work she wants to do to spur and innovate small Business Growth making sure we can actually increase the deduction for Small Business owners ten fold given it takes 40,000 to start a new Small Business. The deduction from five to 50,000 and make sure people stands it stark contrast what Donald Trump wants to do. On the economy he wants more Tax Cuts for the ultra wealthy and giveaways for corporations and plans for abortion, he wants to enact a national Abortion Ban with or without congress and he says on truth social he wants to go after and jail his political opponents. That contrast is precisely why this campaign as it enters the Debate Stage and prepares for the last two months of the campaign is building a coalition that spans the political spectrum. Liz cheney standing up and saying they intend to vote for Kamala Harris. You have people like Adam Kinzinger and others with the threat to Donald Trump and our the constitution and democracy. This is an opportunity for us to speak to a wider swath of the american electorate and make sure they understand. Bill a number of the things you listed there. Trump has the opportunity to say you have had 3 1 2 years. Dana one of the things that happened in the last several weeks is that through spokes people she has said she is no longer for positions she held before but values still hold. Bernie sanders was on the Meet The Press over the weekend. This is what he said. Watch. She has previously supported medicare for all. Now she does not. She has previously supported a ban on fracking. Now she does not. Do think that she is abandoning her progressive ideals . I dont think she is aban dong here ideals. Trying to be pragmatic and doing what she thinks she is doing what is right in order to win the election. Dana you sticking with the values that you have but abandoning the practice of the last several years. Will people be able to believe that . I think what people will see is what her actual governing principles have been. Making sure we can actually get common sense solutions done. You talked about healthcare, for example. Proud of the fact we were able to build on the affordable Care Act and capped the cost of insulin for seniors at 35 and capped Prescription Drugs for seniors to 2 thousand. Making sure that everybody has quality affordable healthcare. This isnt about how far left you are or how far right you are. It is about who are you fighting for and how you will actually solve the problems that confront this country. Again thats why weve been able to build such a wide and Di Verse Coalition less concerned about ideology and more concerned how we get things done for the american people. Thats what the Vice President is focused on and stands in contract to Donald Trump whose entire campaign is about himself. Bill the questionnaire that cnn broke last night what she answered in 2019 about Transgender Surgery for migrants who sometimes are in jail and a lot of other things that were pretty far left. How will she take that on tonight . Yeah, again, that questionnaire is not what she is proposing or running on. You want to talk about immigration or Border Security. She has been very clear about what she how she has governed and intends to govern if she is president of the united states. You talk about Border Security for example. She has made clear the bipartisan Border Security package that Donald Trump blew up because he thought it would benefit him politically. If she gets on her desk. She once called that wall useless, a vanity project, she called it a misuse of taxpayer money. How are the 48 of the people that i just mention ed, how will they switch that and say i believe you now . I think they will see what the Vice President has actually been focused on, actually increasing Border Security. Making sure we have more resources, more agents on the border. She has always been trying to tackle this as somebody who is less concerned about himself, which is what Donald Trump has been done. Theyve been able to see Donald Trump on this issue. There was a solution on the table. People like James Lankford were pushing for ready to go into law until Donald Trump said this. It wont benefit me. There is one candidate in the race that is serious about solving this issue about solving all the issues that confront the american people. Vice president harris.
