angeles and this is america's late news, function is a night. breaking tonight, the pushback is now underway republicans are crying foul to many of the claims president biden made in his state of the union address which sounded more like a campaign speech replete with promises and even a few swipes at his opponent. president biden was hoping to put aside concerns about his age but he have -- you may not have succeeded with many saying he sounded angry and at times, very difficult understand. we have a lime -- live team fox coverage tonight. first, to the senior national correspondent period he is live in dc with more on the state of the union speech kevin good evening. >> and football terms, tonight's state of the union address was sort of like showing your opponent your playbook before an upcoming game. which is to say if you are the gop, after look at the speech as the crib notes for november, keep that in mind. for president biden, tonight's address was about much more than just the speech, it was an emphatic declaration to say i am here, i am the man for the job and our country's future is bright. >> it's because of you are future is bright. it's because of you we can proudly say the state of our union is strong and getting stronger. >> he was a little loud and very hyped up but he was emphatic. as expected, he also went after republicans over access to abortion and ibf, stoking fear said critics among women voters in a way that helped the democrats in previous election cycles. >> those bragging about overturning roe v. wade have no clue about the power of women. they found out when reproductive freedom was on the ballot, we wanted 228 -- 2022 and 2020 and we will win again in 2024. >> hyped up a little bit there. i counted 37 or so slurs or stumbles. he was really going faster points. he also took some time on this issue. we are talking border security. it was in the spotlight trace with the president reacting to calls to mention the name of laken riley, the student was killed by a man who should not have been in this country. >> laken riley, an innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal pair can that's right. how many of the thousands of people being killed by illegals. to her parents i say my heart goes out to you having lost children myself. i understand. >> a memorable moment right there. the speech itself lasted about an hour and seven minutes according to my account. 107 applause lines to boot. it was more or less devoid bipartisanship -- devoid of bipartisanship >> that was a big deal. kevin thank you. as for the republican response to the speech, freshman senator katie britt of alabama did the honours with a heavy dose of truth social input from former president trump. marianne, good evening. >> the gop response night delivered by the youngest female senator, almost -- also the first woman elected by alabama. she began talking about her worry as a mom of two, what we will pass on to future generations citing bidenomics, border security and crime. >> the country we know and love seems to be slipping away and it feels like the next generation will have fewer opportunities and less freedoms than we did. i worry my own children may not even get a shot at living there american dreams. >> president biden mentioning the flow of illegal migrants asking republicans to pass a bill after the most recent bill failed. she zeroed in on the actions to stop border policies that were working. >> we know that president biden didn't just create this border crisis. he invited it's. president biden's border policies are a disgrace. this crisis is despicable. the truth is, it is almost entirely preventable. >> meanwhile on truth social, former president trump posted -- posted a fast and furious play-by-play throughout the address, loading his timeline with memes and a signature sharp which, calling the latest bill a disaster and complaining that biden talked about the snickers bars before he talked about the border. also attempting to fact check president biden on issues like january 6th, nato and the economy, ultimately posting there was tremendous with -- tremendous mistress but they know that november 5th will be the most important day in our nation's history. trump almost -- also posted that brett did a great job >> it is interesting he did do snickers before the border which is a fair point. let's bring in scarlett mcguire. district media group president, ... thank you all for coming on. lower into you first, he said threat to democracy or talked about the threat to democracy several times in the first few minutes of the speech. here's one of them, listen and i'll get your response. >> i see a future wear defending democracy, you don't diminish it. i see a future... not take them away. >> you can kind of see here where the campaign is going. that's going to be a big push coming towards november. >> the way he started out being very strong against potent, talking about ukraine. i thought it made a lot of sense. then when he transitioned to january 6th, that's where the polling is going to catch up to him he or perhaps voters should care more than they do about january 6th, perhaps they should think about it more and talk about it more. it ranks among the lowest issues on their list. that ordering i was very surprised buy and i didn't understand the strategy. >> what about you beverly? i'm curious about the delivery itself. we talked a lot about this with kevin, a lot of people in social media and analysts said he seemed angry. he spoke very fast at times, sometimes indecipherable. what did you think about the delivery and the tone and the tenor? >> i think he came out wanting to give a strong delivery because this was really a time for him to speak to his own bass. this wasn't to get nikki haley voters, it wasn't to get independent voters. it was actually. >> to be lose beverly? >> i think i got it back now, sorry about that. i think what he was trying to do is reach out to his own base to try to win them over. i think that was the huge problem with this is that even though he was angry and he was able to make it through it, there was still plenty of stumbles and it. >> i thought you were doing a biden impersonation with the pause there. the timing was spot on. i want to go here because he also talked about -- he also talked about the economy scarlett and i will get your take. >> our economy is the envy of the world. 15 million new jobs in just three years, a record. >> here's what he doesn't get scarlett. want to put this on the screen because this five guys receipt has gotten a lot of social media time where a burger, fries and a coke was $24. that's the part the president doesn't get. that's why he is deeply underwater when it comes to peoples prospects on on the economy, your thoughts? >> you're absolutely right. they do not think biden is doing a good job of handling the economy. they think trump would do a better job and did a better job when he was president which i think goes a long way to explain why biden is currently struggling in the polls. that is absolutely shocking. we are seeing the way in which american prices are going crazy up. i think that's the problem. you can say that the economy is that -- is the envy of the world but every day americans are not feeling it when they go about their everyday lives. >> when he talked about in ending the country, he said this >> i've seen the contest between competing forces and the battle for the soul of our nation. between those who want to pull america back to the past and those who want to move america into the future. >> the whole theme was about uniting the country and he said we want to unite the country except for half the country. we don't really want them in the mix here. what you think. >> i think biden actually has a pretty good record on bipartisanship. he called out his friend lindsey graham for instance. these are the types of interactions that people like. you are right. the message on the economy was pretty divisive and he promised a lot of stuff that i have no idea how he's going to pay for, raising the corporate tax rate isn't even going to get us close. but, yes, there are examples of democrats pulling people backwards and freedom and giving them choice as well as the republican examples which obviously are the ones that he's highlighting and he is right about some of them. >> beverly, when you look at the overall speech, the content of it. was a more of a campaign speech in your estimation or do you think this was a regal state of the union address? >> definitely not a real state of the union address. it is apparently angry and they really think he was just trying to ensure that his base thinks that he has the stamina to get through not just election season, but also the next four years period i think this was about fighting the impression that he is too old to do this. i will say this even though there are a lot of stumbles. when you compare this to some of his recent speeches, he actually made it through far better than he has done in the past. for him, i think he's gone to look at this as a victory. >> the bar was very low. >> it really was a lobar. we talked about that before the state of the union address where people put the bar so low and they are saying if you can stay up there for the hour that he needs to stay up there, and at least get through this and we're all going to applaud appeared you can bet if you are looking at the new york times, you look in the washington post, you will see big headlines like hugely successful speech, not hugely successful but at least he did get through it. i want to play this last soundbite. this is about eight anger and retribution. watch. >> other people my agency differently. american story of resentment, revenge and retribution. that's not me. my fellow americans, the issue facing our nation is not how old we are, it's how old are ideas. hate, anger, revenge, restaurant -- retribution of the oldest of ideas. you can't lead america with ancient ideas. it will only take us back. >> maybe have clever plays -- may be a clever phrase... he's too old. >> americans thank he is too old , not just republicans but democrats as well and crucially independence. this is a problem, he's trying to go forward into the future. try to show that he can sell a campaign message for the next four years. we'll be asked voters, they said nothing. they don't know what he wants to achieve and i think part of the problem is americans don't want to go backwards but also americans feel like the country is moving in the wrong direction anyways. >> a lot of people came away from this not quite knowing where he wants to go in the next four years. thank you all for coming on, we appreciate it. now to immigration to talk about how president biden did or did not address the crisis on our southern border. sheriff it's always great to have you on the show. he talked a little bit about the back-and-forth with marjorie taylor green and she was kind of heckling about his border. they went back and forth and he finally -- she had a t-shirt on saying laken riley, say her name. they had this. >> it's not about him, it's not about me. >> laken riley, an innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal. that's right. how many of the thousands of people being killed by illegals. to her parents i say, my heart goes out to you having lost children myself, i understand. >> two very unusual parts of that. instead of laken riley he went -- he said lincoln riley... it's interesting that he missed the whole -- he messed the whole thing up. what were your thoughts about that? >> i agree. starting off the state of the union... he is 70 percent plus underwater with people who want him to close the border across the united states. that should have been his first priority. instead he talked about snickers and the amount of chips and a bag, whether or not you are going to pay more for a ticketmaster ticket. i'm glad that she called him out and you are right, most people didn't catch it. what he said was thousands of people are dying by illegal aliens. on glad that he recognizes that they are there illegally as well as. >> he talked about it. does the president many people say broke the border and he's talking about what he needs to fix. >> made a simple choice. we can fight or we can fix it. i'm ready to fix it. send me the border bill now. >> he has the power to fix it tomorrow but he chooses not to. >> he does play the blame game. he spent his first part of his speech playing the blame game. he is wrong. he can fix it. he doesn't need another border bill, he doesn't need any bill. he has all the power to fix it, the same power that he used to undo trumps working policies, he can use that power to fix it. >> he said this about crime sheriff, i'm running out of time but i had to get this end because it was kind of stunning, watch. >> all americans deserve the freedom to be safe. america is safer today than when i took office. >> safer today than when he took office. with a straight face, your final thoughts. >> that's a lie, people don't feel as safe. frankly when you are not holding the people accountable, sure your statistics look great. if they were actually holding people accountable they would realize that crime is on the rise and americans are not happy >> sheriff, great to have you on sir thank you. >> thank you. >> imagine a future... they can stay in their homes and family caregivers can finally get the pay they deserve. tonight, let's all agree once again to stand up for seniors. my friends on the other side of the aisle want to put social security on the chopping block. i will stop you. >> let's get into big policy points per president biden it on tonight... thank you both for coming on. you talked about lowering prices on healthcare and on prescription drugs. he said this,. >> i'm going to get in trouble ... >> trace: the mosque outlined turned out to be funny whether it's accurate or not, i will let that be up to you to decide. >> the idea of reducing prescription drug prices is great in reality, how in the world are we going to do that and still have access to prescription drugs? the u.s. right now because of the rest of the world pay next -- pays next to nothing, we pay $2500 and we have access to drugs first and sometimes exclusively that other countries simply don't have. if you have certain forms of cancer, certain forms of arthritis, good luck getting the most advanced, latest drugs in other countries. if we start paying the same $50 or $100 that other countries do, companies are going to say forget it, you are not getting it either. if you wanted, pain cash. i think it's good to have a backfiring effect and already you hear from companies that they are going to stop developing new drugs in anticipation of these price controls being put in. >> you talk about education, never acknowledged that the education system is on the decline. he said the following. >> i want to expand high-quality tutoring and a summer learning to see that every child learns to reed by third grade. [ applause ] i'm also connecting local businesses and high schools so students get hands-on experience and a path to good paying jobs whether or knot they go to college. >> trace: he talks about kids learn to reed by third grade. we have struggled to get kids in eighth grade to learn math and read. >> i think dc is often called hollywood for ugly people and that was very much on display tonight. this is a room full of very well paid bad actors and everything he said was bs. everything was alive. there's no good policy points made. it was all a show. you had people chanting four more years. is anyone in their right mind actually hoping for that? in terms of education, what he said was we need to send weapons to ukraine and when he said that, i was thinking about my trip that i just took to sacramento this week with a group of about 60 kids from my school district. we went up to sacramento to beg for money to pay for our school facilities that are from the 1950s and sixties. we have ceilings collapsing, we have floods in the schools. we had to shut a middle school down for three days during the storm last week. and we can't -- he is talking about all these big policy ideas, big government, units are going to win. we can't have basic infrastructure for our own children. >> it's a very good point. >> trace: he didn't mention censorship at all... >> why would he talk about that? it something that's going to hurt him politically and it's true. i think if he did the right thing by avoiding all these topics for which he is guilty,. >> book banning, he talked about book banning. no context. nobody is wanting to ban books. they want to ban books with pornographic or highly sexual content, that's it. and for elementary schools. >> i would love to see a policy where if somebody wants a certain book to be in a school, need to come to the school board and read the book aloud first. that will be the test. >> trace: it's a great thing. you come and some have tried it and they've been walked out of those board meetings because you can't do that. they don't want to hear it. we appreciate it. when president biden said about the israel hamas were during the state of the union as he continues to face political pressure appeared protesters even blocking his route to the capital tonight. coming up, continuing coverage of the state of the union address, reaction and analysis after the break. okay everyone, our mission is to provide complete, balanced nutrition for strength and energy. yay - woo hoo! ensure, with 27 vitamins and minerals, nutrients for immune health. and ensure complete with 30 grams of protein. >> it's a mess prioritization of our resources and time. i think this is going to come at a cost to the american taxpayer and i don't believe we can make that case legitimately. no one talks about the fact that egypt, jordan and other nations could be also assisting and they are not in the manor in which they should be. ultimately putting this on the back of the american taxpayer, funding programs only have a open southern border is an abdication of responsibility. >> trace: finally the president was saying china out the threat that we think it is, there are other threats. you have a lot of people including some of the top generals that would say china is threat number 1 and the fbi has also parroted that. you're last thoughts on this. >> china is definitely a faux. and they're making a lot of purple -- a lot of preparations and their military infrastructure proved they've made many great leads in the cyberspace. china needs to be taken very seriously, does not a threat that we can discount and we should be preparing our nation for future conflict, especially under the likes of this administration. >> trace: it's notable that china has militarized the south china sea and out is a very scary concept. cameron hamilton, great to have you on is always. coming up, continuing coverage of the state of the union speech which put a spotlight on the issue of abortion, a big spotlight. the president promising roe v. wade will become the law of the land once again. and to some disruptions tonight to the president speech including an arrest by capitol police. meet the traveling trio. the thrill seeker. the soul searcher. and - ahoy! it's the explorer! each helping to protect their money with chase. woah, a lost card isn't keeping this thrill seeker down. lost her card, not the vibe. the soul searcher, is finding his identity, and helping to protect it. hey! oh yeah, the explorer! she's looking to dive deeper... all while chase looks out for her. because these friends have chase. alerts that help check. tools that help protect. one bank that puts you in control. chase. make more of what's yours. all these games on directv— and no satellite on the roof! think about this: blue jays, cardinals, orioles... what's missing? [ cheering and applause ] >> trace: president by day making a production that abortion rights will be on the ballot in november. let's bring in the president and political director of the national federation of republican women, julie harris ... thank you both -- all three for coming. it seems pretty clear if you listen to the president speech tonight that abortion, they think this is going to be an effective topic for them in 2024, what would you say? >> i would say that they think that women are one issue voters and that's not the case we care about things such as the economy, inflation and abortive security. i am pleased to announce that the national federation of a public and women have enthusiastically endorsed president trump and art 60,000 members who have volunteered 14 million hours in the last election are in position to increase the number to vote for the candidate who will protect our country by securing our border and to strengthening our economy. >> i'm surprised that he actually went after the supreme court, but he did and here it is >> many of you in this chamber and my predecessor are promising the ban on reproductive freedom. what freedom else would you take away? with all due respect justices. women are not without electoral power. >> you follow this a lot, the politics, what is your thought on this? >> this is a winning issue for president trump in november. it was a winning issue in 2016. i hope the president will do the same thing he did to hillary clinton in 2016 and point out that the democrats will put no restrictions on abortion whatsoever. they believe in abortion for any reason. you don't like the gender of your baby? kill it. they believe in abortion at any stage including up until the time the babies in the birth canal of the mother. that means crushing a baby's skull, dismembering the baby's body. it's horrific, it's no different than what hamas did in burning children alive and yes i'm saying it, when it comes to protecting children, there's no difference between joe biden, kamala harris and hamas. they are all barbarians. that's a winning message for president trump. >> we want to give you and your children the opportunities to thrive. and we want families to grow. it's what we strongly support continued nationwide access to in vitro fertilization. we want to help loving moms and dads bring precious life into this world. >> trace: she is reinforcing the fact that ivf is on an alabama. ready think about that? >> i think that's great but i think the real issues in this election are going to be about border security, the economy, inflation and parental rights. we have to get president trump back in the white house novembey our country, get it back and make america great again. >> you go when you talk about the issues. you go down the list and you know that they are going to go after this. you look at the polls if we can put this up katie. this is the top issue in deciding the president. you see the economy is up there at 37 percent. immigration at 21 percent, abortion at 10 percent and it goes on down the list. you look at this list and you wonder why it is that there is so much emphasis on topic numbe. >> it's because in order to talk about the economy and the border, they would have to discuss their failed policy. we are going to stay on task and on message at the national federation of republican women. nikki is correct, the issues that voters care about is the economy and the border. we are seeing that in the child tax credit that is about to expire. there's a loophole in it which has caused some republicans to pause. the same time theirs no -- there's a victim either way you go. either if the families or it's the economy... >> trace: i'm under pastor if you would differ. do you think the evangelicals have a different list? do you think it is in a different order or would you pretty much think that is kind of where they are? >> i think for example guarding the border, that's an important issue and it's a biblical issue. is the reason god created government was to protect citizens and that's all right thing to rally for. it just strikes me that the democrats were saying that they want to put the right to kill children at the top of their agenda. the reason for that is the wickedness of their hearts, that's what i believe. >> it's interesting, because you look at when we talk to mark lam earlier, president biden will not admit any fault and what's happening with these 10 million people crossing the border. he knows he could fix it tomorrow, he has executive authority and he keeps pointing fingers. you're final thoughts. >> he keeps pointing fingers because he can't point at himself. he has failed this country, our border is wide open. we are well over ten -- 10 million illegal immigrants. young woman can even go out and except -- and exercise and feel safe because of the risk that we face invited's america. to me that is incredibly side and i'm ready for change. >> trace: thank you're all for coming on. we appreciate it. some final thoughts and where do we go from here and what does it all mean for the 2024 election? next. >> trace: chad during biden's address, not only was he fiery but apparently the rest of the room was all so pretty fiery. what do you know? >> this was not your grandfather's estate of the union speech. all the disruptions, marjorie taylor green heckling the president. she told me earlier... house speaker mike johnson, e. -- he indicated that he did not know the man arrest was a gold star father. >> he's got some grievances and you've got to believe that he is a heartbroken man sue can clearly understand what's going through his mind. kevin your final thoughts. >> headlined tomorrow for you, joe biden channels his inner abraham simpson, the grandfather on the show. much like the fans of the long-running sitcom, democrats will love the job he did tonight. will he went over new supporters? emphatically no. >> trace: a lot of memes that was going through social media. there was the screaming, he is coughing and screaming at the kids and he's running after them playing on the lawn. a lot of that kind of stuff today. marianne you have some thoughts on the speaker of the house... >> he could not hide how he was feeling. every single time he would sit there and shake his head. >> trace: he shook his head a lot and he got a lot of attention for that. he did not rip up the speech so that was a good thing. >> i would love for him to say that directly to people like... and all the democrats who are calling to disband our united states supreme court because they don't like that 9-0 decision that just came out. >> trace: when they come out in their favourite, commander they love the court. they love the court. otherwise they want to expand the court. now we need -- that's a whole thing, you keep expanding the court. it's the same as these other policies or getting rid of the filibuster. some thoughts on biden's criticism of the israeli response to hamas? >> i was disappointed in the president tonight and october 7th happened, the entire nation and administration were on israel's side unequivocally just like everyone was on our sight after 911 saying we will support israel... now when election season, is getting a lot of political pressure especially in battleground states like michigan where he's realizing he could be in trouble where people were calling him genocide joe. he was very tough on israel tonight. he criticized them and accused them of deliberately targeting civilians and children and causing the famine. he's playing into that and i think he needs to speak with moral clarity. israel is our greatest ally, are only true serious ally, only democracy in the middle east. i think he has an obligation to follow through and not try to play both sides. are not both sides here appear we should allow israel to do and they'd need to do as we would've done. >> trace: when i went to what -- mama to israel i had a chance to view that video of hamas going in there. i did not take it upon the offer that because i had to drive to tel aviv. i sought today for the first time, it is worse than horrifying to say inhumane is not the same. it's not human. it's not a human thing that you can watch. it is absolutely horrific to see thank you for that. beverly, what you think biden was trying to get across in his speech tonight?
