>> israel releasing video showing weapons found in united relief bags in a school in gaza, ground operations increased to southern gaza as israel says hamas is firing rockets in humanitarian zones set up by the idf. griff jenkins is on assignment. doron katz asher aishah: they demanded an immediate cease-fire. senior foreign affairs correspondent greg plcott has the latest. >> reporter: we are a mile away from gaza. since we spoke to you we've witnessed more intense fighting between israel and hamas. artillery and automatic gunfire going into this, up and down the gaza strip, full-scale urban combat the strongest of this war, attention is being paid to the south where it has a stronghold of hamas leaders but here in the north, several pockets of hamas resistance remain. one terror cell where the idf claims to have found hamas weapons stashed away include an ak-47 rifle allegedly hidden in a giant teddy bear. the situation is getting worse by the day, millions out of food and medicine in gaza. the resolution introduced in the security council calling for cease-fire approved by most countries but was vetoed saying it wasn't a strong enough condonation of hamas and the terror of october 7th and as the fighting rages concern grows, that the fate of the hostages, of the 137, 18 are now believed to dead including a 25-year-old man just announced today. there were reports of an attempt on friday but by all accounts it failed. getting all of those captives back who are alive and dead will be a priority here. allysia: thanks. a defund the war machine rally is taking place in arlington, virginia. 100 people demanding a cease-fire in gaza, we will monitor this event for developments. three ivy league presidents are under scrutiny for failing to denounce anti-semitism during the house hearing earlier this week, universities and big donors in an uproar. cv cotton is live with the details. >> reporter: 70 lawmakers have sent a letter to harvard, mit, demanding their president cease-fire. this is a congressional investigation that is underway into the prestigious universities over their handling of anti-semitism after all three ivy league presidents got swift back lash for comments. the resident of the university of pennsylvania is trying to clarify her remarks. >> a call for genocide of jewish people is threatening, deeply so. >> reporter: this billboard truck was spotted circling the campus calling for mcgill to be fire to. before this, the board says the school didn't call for her to resign. on fox, students say the president has been given too many chances. >> in my opinion, asking one more chance, saying we need to get it right this time, with coming finals, and adjust course policies to allow students, than many attempts on their final exams until they think the right outcome comes about. it is taken a little more seriously. >> reporter: the board of trustees will hold an emergency meeting but it is unclear whether they will make any decisions about mcgill's leadership. hedge fund ceo ross stevens said he would withdraw his $100 million donation to the school. at harvard, jewish students hired a plane to fly over with a banner that reads harvard hates jews. claudine gay is apologizing for her congressional testimony calling the student paper, i am sorry, words matter but these apologies fall flat for some. the only rabbi on the anti-semitism task force has resigned calling president claudine gay's congressional testimony painfully inadequate. allysia: thanks. mike: for more, we are joined by democratic caucus and j cotton. >> thanks for having me on. mike: you sent a joint statement saying, quote, harvard ranks last in 248 universities for free speech but when it comes to denounce anti-semitism suddenly the university has anxieties about the first amendment. it rings hollow. you are harvard graduate. how troubled are you about the way this university handled this since the october 7th attacks? >> i'm tired of the second and third attacks it takes doctor gay and mit and pennsylvania and other university presidents to get it right on this issue that requires moral clarity and strength. since october 7th it has been a sequence of ifs, buts and what abouts, we condemn hamas, but what about, we don't support anti-semitism, however, if, enough conjunction. it's time for clarity and strength and ironically this pretzel these presidents have tied themselves into is the result of the last decade's worth of antagonism to free speech, and an increasing cancel culture that has embedded itself on these universities that's causing it to lose sight of their mission and instead to engage in an increasingly hostile set of ideologies to the american people that celebrates the value and dignity of every individual and encourages free, open, vigorous debate about ideas. allysia: your collie, at least a phonic had a tough exchange with the harvard university president. >> calling for the genocide of jews violates harvard conduct, correct? it does not depend on the context. the answer is yes and this is why you should resign. allysia: is stuff phonic -- is stefanyk right on this? >> i asked them to look at brandeis in my district in massachusetts were brandeis's president has been leading with clarity and conviction, recognizing free-speech allows people to say things that are unpopular, toxic, contrarian but also understanding the mission of the university require students to have a learning environment suitable for them to develop as young people. calls for genocide are inconsistent with this and they should have had a 1-word answer. allysia: funding for israel, ukraine and hot topics, your republican colleagues i demanding border security be included in that. how does this play out? >> if we don't pass this security package it will be the best christmas president vladimir putin never asked for. 's entire strategy is hoping the united states loses its resolve. the locus is speaker mike johnson. i was with capital, saluting winston churchill and speaker jensen spoke about the legacy of the former prime minister saying how in a moment of crisis for europe winston churchill was a rock. i would say to speaker johnson you are in a similar situation. are you going to be known in history as the politician who handed ukraine to russia and failed to stand up to authoritarians, laid the seeds for future conflict with the war maker on nato's border? or are you going to stand tall? much of that is up to speaker johnson. allysia: border does not appear to be sustainable. >> we should make changes to border security. -saying several months and senate democrats and house democrats including the president agree. the president has said he wants to be involved in border security negotiations. we won't boil the ocean. we can't solve the entirety of such a complex challenge which requires documentation, better partnerships with countries of origin, keying in on the drug and human trafficking element, can't solve all of that in these weeklong negotiations but absolutely changes to asylum policy and other improvements to security to stem of the migrant crisis are appropriate and democrats are negotiating in good faith. are republicans going to take yes for an answer? mike: thank you for your time today. appreciate it. allysia: hunter biden's like does rocking washington politics as reaction continues to the 56 page filing against the president's son and what it means for him and the man in the white house. >> reporter: the president's son failed to pay $1.4 million in taxes, money -- he chose to spend it wildly on women, drugs, cars, and clothing according to the indictment. david wise while nine tax related charges against the president's son, his lead attorney. >> he well stated many times at the depth of his addiction, something american families have somebody in their family or they know, is not behavior he is proud of but it doesn't make him into attacks phelan. >> reporter: hunter biden faces prison, a prior probation arrangement after a judge questioned the what republicans called a sweetheart deal. legal analyst presser charlie wade in. >> when the sweetheart deal as spot before a judge, have you ever seen anything like this? he said no. that is when this began to fall apart. >> reporter: the latest charges are on top of charges the president's son faces, he pleaded guilty to those in october, oversight committee chairman james comer said unless attorney wise investigates everything in the biden fraud schemes it will be clear president biden's doj is protecting hunter biden and the big guy. he plans to fight these tax charges taking this to an attorney. allysia: president biden is attending fundraisers with hollywood's elite as he deals with his son's legal drama and sinking poll numbers. lucas tomlinson has the latest. >> reporter: hunter biden taking his fight to the airwaves speaking on a podcast before the indictment was announced saying this is all an effort to take his father down. >> they are trying to to kill me knowing it will be a pain greater than my father could be able to handle. they -- and destroy presidency. >> reporter: andy mccarthy wants to remind viewers where hunter biden made his money. >> the important thing for the country is how the money was generated. the big thing continues to be agents of corrupt and anti-american regimes thought was in their interests to pay the bidens millions when no assets were crossing the other way other than president biden's political. >> reporter: biden's approval number now the lowest of his presidency. a 5% drop from august. 's approval rating has been underwater since the hasty withdrawal from afghanistan two years ago. even more concerning is how many issues donald trump is beating the president on, the economy, inflation, crime, border, russia's war in ukraine, the israel/hamas were, the only issue is abortion. the president in los angeles hoping donors for the holiday spirit passing the hat around attending fundraisers for his reelection. mike: for more on hunter biden facing charges let's bring in today's political panel, chris johnson and democratic strategist brad howard. gentlemen, welcome. let's start with hunter biden in his own words and get you to react to it. >> this may not in every aspect be a russian disinformation campaign but has every earmark of what the russians do. mike: what about the latest charges? >> they are problematic for hunter biden. the political problem for the president, this is a family, no family has dealt with a person struggling with addiction knows what it is like to go through, very emotional, very complex, you want to be sure you are not helping them to getting worse situations. it's a complicated problem. you have house republicans looking into any connections, looking at it for a year and see how this turns out. it is a tough time for them. mike: place it more the right and left for this topic. >> he will be treated differently because of the political component to this case. >> looks more like collectively than business activity. >> your thoughts on hunter and his famous name. >> he's cashing in on his name and there has to be a wake up call, how frustrated people are in this situation. 's approval rating should be a red alert, people are tired of how this is being handled and how he's talking about it. he's proud of his son, i'm proud of my son but to my knowledge he has committed tax fraud. that is something the president needs a better answer on. he needs to get to the point of acknowledging this is a serious problem. he says i feel for somebody struggling with addiction but he needs a better answer on this. we need clarity and truth from the president of the united states. >> what about the later impact? >> the son, there's a legal process doing that. biden needs to tell the american people what he needs to do. republicans have this obsession with hunter biden when there are so many problems in the world. the president needs to continue focusing on the good economic numbers we saw this week, inflation is dropping. unemployment at record lows. consumer confidence is increasing. tell the economic recovery story and tell voters what you're going to do in the future. obama was innocently situation a year from the election. and beach mitt romney. we've got to steer the conversation and lead to success. mike: is hunter a political drag? >> obviously he is. that's unfortunate for the president. you try to do your best, going into an election season a guy like donald trump seems like he's going to be our nominee is not afraid to go there in a way that other candidates might, distract from positive issues of the economy and dealing with a bunch of issues people care about, seeing inflation go down at all that stuff. republicans need to hammer on this and see where it leads but not lose sight of those other issues where they do that. >> with expect house republicans to formalize the house impeachment inquiry. what are your expectations? >> speaker johnson, uniting of the conference which hasn't been able to do that, i was representing moderate democrats, this essentially doesn't mean anything is wrong. the resolution clause is a legal mechanism to expand the power of congressional subpoenas. essentially speeds up the ability to get information. >> what are your expectations? >> i hope it's taken seriously if they move forward with a serious trial. i hope it doesn't distract from other issues leading to the election, everything from crime to inflation to the climate issue. all these issues that are of high importance to voters where an impeachment trial could backfire in the way the first impeachment of donald trump and that up getting him more support. this could backfire for republicans. we need to be careful about this. mike: thanks very much. allysia: fbi director christopher wray says the us faces unprecedented threat level since the october 7th attack on israel after a record-breaking week of migrant encounters at the southern border. we will take you live to texas next. gold. but because it's gold - they think it must be complicated. it isn't. not with rosland capital. with rosland... the entire process from start to finish is built on one concept... one... keep... it... simple. rosland capital - a trusted leader in helping people acquire precious metals. gold bullion, lady liberty gold and silver proofs, and our premium coins, can help you preserve your wealth. call rosland capital at 800-630-8900 to receive your free rosland guide to gold, gold & precious metals ira, and silver brochures. with rosland, there are no hassles, no gimmicks, and our shipping is fast and reliable. remember. keep it simple. make gold your new standard. call rosland capital today at 800-630-8900, 800-630-8900. that's 800-630-8900. first time i connected with kim, she told me that her husband had passed. and that he took care of all of the internet connected devices in the home. i told her, “i'm here to take care of you.” connecting with kim... made me reconnect with my mom. it's very important to keep loved ones close. we know that creating memories with loved ones brings so much joy to your life. a family trip to the team usa training facility. i don't know how to thank you. i'm here to thank you. dear moms and dads, what you have achieved here today is going to help us and our futures. it is why we're coming up on stage to collect your diplomas. mom, love you always. vo: when you graduate, they graduate. visit finishyourdiploma.org to find free and supportive adult education centers near you. >> this week's are record-breaking numbers of encounters. griff jenkins is at the southern border in eagle pass, texas. >> reporter: we are here, and they are processing several hours. a woman with her back to us standing, don't want to get too close, holding a one month old child. she gave birth to this child in panama, to the jungle, it is a heartbreaking snapshot and humanitarian crisis, in the front, the woman in black, with the cap on its head, the last month bill, that is primarily where these migrants are. i want to show you the lack -- take a look at this. the migrant was handcuffed in this location because the processing they do showed they had a hit for a sex offense for sexual assault of a child, he was taken, separated and taken elsewhere. many of the migrants you see here are released. he will not be. this image is a group of 40 migrant centers from haiti that is really significant. in this del rio sector, those under the bridge in del rio, it slowed down and we have a group of 40, that is a real red flag for what's coming for those agents. let's go from here to arizona. some video shot here, they are getting inundated with the migrant surge. many of those migrants coming from african countries and they are coming in droves. these numbers are unsustainable but let me show you a tweet this tucson sector chief, 18,900, in just that one sector alone, in one week, shattering records for that area, with 17,500. that's why in arizona you have katie hobbs going to the border. she sent a letter yesterday to the biden administration, $512 million in reimbursement costs along with a letter demanding the biden administration take action to get this under control. mike: important information from griff jenkins. thanks very much. allysia: joining me with more on the threat from the southern border is acting dhs secretary chad wolf. good to see you. we have a surge at the border, democratic leaders in states and cities feeling overrun, getting louder and louder on this. will this movie administration to take more forceful action? >> it certainly should. what you are seeing is the border crisis, biden's border crisis is no longer a republican or democratic issue. you see bipartisan concern about what's going on. you have blue state mayors and governors calling them, asking them to do more. it is not only the funding, but also they need the surge to stop. that requires change in policies along the border to slow the surge we have today. it is a bipartisan issue now. the question is when will the biden administration change strategy. we are three years in and the strategy continues to be a failed one. allysia: fiscal year 2,022, the number of encounters versus how many more from each country are actually getting deported. a couple examples, nicaragua 164, 600,000 encounters with 2038 who have been deported so far. el salvador with 98,000 encounters, 7200 deportations, china, 27, 7, 5, six, encounters versus 127 deportations. these are staggering numbers. where are they going, what happens to them, in december we are heading into snowing months and some of these cities in january and february. >> almost all of them are being released into american communities but there's two issues at play. the administration continues to talk about and issues press releases about removing individuals. what have you been doing the past three years? you haven't been removing anyone evidenced by the numbers you just put up. that is really important. the administration will tell the american people we are putting illegal aliens in removal proceedings but that is a three year process. we will release americans and hope they show up for an immigration court date sometime in the future. the administration is not being honest with the american people and not removing individuals as they claim to. allysia: the point about people going into american cities, bill melugin talked to a handful of people coming across. >> california. >> new york city. >> family there. >> omaha, nebraska. >> oklahoma. >> your final thoughts here. we see there is into community, state, city that isn't going to be impacted. >> exactly right. the majority of these illegal aliens and some that were just interviewed there and others almost exclusively saying they are coming over either to rejoin a family or looking for economi
