>> kayleigh: hello, this is "outnumbered," i'm kayleigh mcenany, here with emily compagno and fox business anchor and co-host of bottom lineup dagen mcdowell, fox news contributor marie harf and co-host of the verdict with ted cruz podcast and host of ben ferguson podcast, guess who, ben ferguson. we begin with the fiery debate last night, four of the candidate took the stage in the fourth primary debate, the final debate before the end of the year and iowa caucus next month, january 15th, we're counting down. candidates largely ignored absence of former president donald trump, but he was indeed a subject. they honed in on another target, former south carolina governor, nikki haley. here is just a few heated moments. >> she said i have a woman problem. nikki, i don't have a woman problem, you have a corruption problem and i think that is what people need to know. nikki is corrupt. [cheering] >> this woman will send your kids to die so she can have a bigger house. >> other candidates like nikki haley cave when the left or media come after her. >> only person more fascist than biden administration is nikki haley. we know nikki will cave to big donors when it counts. >> they are jealous, they wish they were supporting them. i love all the attention, fellas. >> closing a bridge from new jersey to new york, do everybody a favor and walk yourself off that stage and enjoy a nice meal and get the hell out of this race. >> you do that every debate, go out and say something, all of us see it on video. we confront you on the debate stage and you say you didn't say it. >> i will tell you exactly what i said. >> i'm not done yet. hold on. >> this is the fourth debate that you would be voted in first 20 minutes as most obnoxious blow hard in america. >> kayleigh: whoa, there were fireworks, take this piece by piece. it seemed as if governor ron desantis had a new strategy, it seemed to be ron desantis, the fighter. watch. >> i banned china from buying florida in the land in the state of florida. you harm an american service member, you will have hell to pay, we will not let our troops be sitting ducks. i'm sick of republicans who are not willing to stand up and fight back to what the left is doing to this country. stand strong and beat these people. i'm the only one running for president that has beaten these people on issue after issue. as a parent, you do not have the right to abuse your kids. >> ron is hypocritical. he was running for governor and they asked him about it, he said he didn't think bathroom bills were a good use of his time. >> i signed a bill in florida, that is obviously not true. >> kayleigh: he came out fighting, what was interesting nonconservative types, journalists, noticed. you have andrew at cnn, ron desantis's best debate so far. best debate of the cycle and mark, fourth time the charm, desantis's best debate. >> ben: it wasn't just him being front-runner, nikki haley is mit romney, they want her and this has surged. that took pressure off ron desantis and he had a better st strategy. everybody was not throwing at him, that changed the dynamic. he wanted to go back to the basics of what made people love him and tell that story and explain it. he fought back and not just thinking, should i say this or that. it was reactional, i wish this guy would be on debate one, two and three. if you are on his campaign, i think you are excited. this shows, okay, we're alive. if you're a donor, you have to be thrilled this happened. this may give him a longer runway to right the ship, it's been messed up for a while. >> kayleigh: nikki haley was fending off a lot of attacks. she was asked about economy, housing, young people not being able to afford it. this is a prototype for what nikki haley is on fire. solid answer, strong answer, detailed answer, watch. >> right now the average homeowner in america is 49 years old. you have young people everywhere, that used to be the american dream and now it is out of reach. open it up and one, grow our economy so people have more money in their pocket, look at the supply chain and funnel that so builders don't have to go overseas to find things and make sure we stop paying down debt, stop borrowing and spending, i'll veto any spending bill that doesn't take us back to pre-covid levels. our kids will not forgive us for all the spending that happens. >> kayleigh: i see why president biden fears her. >> marie: she is most competitive against joe biden in a general election. ron desantis had his debate, will it stop his bleeding in the polls and stop don't ors who have fled him to go to her. she talks like she wants to win a general election and not just a primary. a lot of what we heard from ron desantis was designeds to get primary voters and take them from donald trump. nikki haley had been talking about abortion, that is one place she shined most, talking to a general election audience. the big question, donald trump is light years ahead of these folks. nikki haley did a good job in the hot seat. she said, you guys are jealous, you are criticizing me because i'm getting your support. she took a lot of incoming. >> kayleigh: bingo, marie, look at the polls, emily, donald trump 43%, that is nbc, that is iowa. move to the next state, new hampshire, 42%, commanding lead and south carolina 53%, majority support for trump. >> emily: that is undeniable and what is also undeniable to marie's point, nikki haley position under him in every state. third place that revolves. i thought, if i can give general thoughts about last night, for candidates who say americans deserve better as we discuss policy issues, it is disappointing and unpalatable that we are subjected to what has become behavior as court jester. talk about wisdom versus experience, it is hubris? there has to be a line drawn. his -- i just think behavior is unbecoming of anyone who thinks they should sit in the oval office and we have been subjected to unruly behavior. it is exhausting over and over again. that underscores that and feets into it. it does not give us refreshing change of events. sooner we can contrast, i think the neoconlabel is one people want nikki haley to have, she is far different from that and two candidates up there, whose policies should be contrasted and compared to nuanced, thoughtful degree is nikki haley and desantis and everything else is noise. sooner they realize that, better for all of us americans trying so hard to make real decisions. >> kayleigh: those two were center stage, where polls have them. first stop is iowa, coming up less than 40 days, i've been to the iowa caucuses. you give a speech on behalf of your candidate, long, arduous p, polls can be meaningless. boots on the ground work in iowa pays off. >> dagen: it does, ron desantis has a leg up in iowa, but bigger picture nationally the monmouth university poll that came out just yesterday, when asked open-ended question to republican voters, who do you want to see gop nominee for president, more than half said president donald trump, 53%. year ago it was half that. it was 26%. and in a breakdown of candidates, everybody talks about nikki haley is taking off, not really. nikki haley still in third, she's at 12% and that is up from september, 7%. ron desantis is still six points ahead at 18%. donald trump is 40 points ahead of ron desantis at 58 and 46 points ahead of nikki haley. how did they close that gap? a miracle from on high perhaps. and vivek ramaswamy, i think, we always talk about all comers are welcome in the republican party, great, diverse field, first debate in august, you watched him and said, give this guy a shot. he is like your sister's new boyfriend, excited he is coming for thanksgiving. he is rich, entrepreneur, he will bring interesting, expensive food and coming up on new year's eve and you are trying to concoct what kind of illness you're going to have so you don't have to spend the night with him. that is where we are. >> kayleigh: there is national polling that shows donald trump has 60% plus. he is doing better against four than joe biden was doing against two and he is a sitting candidate. >> ben: still trump's. >> marie: and he is in court this morning. joe. new polling shows president biden's approval rating dropping to one of the worst numbers since he took office. biden sitting at just 37% and 67% said they disapprove of the president. voters aren't buying the white house economic message either. the same cnn poll found 84% said they are worried about state of the economy and just 16% said otherwise, ouch. republican candidates were duking it out last night, biden's campaign refused to commit to any presidential debates in 2024. >> the campaign will look at the schedule and we'll have this conversation, our focus is on building out campaign and infrastructure and republicans are in divisive primary, we are focusing on winning an election next year. >> kayleigh: emily, one of my fears about trump not attending primary debates, it would be weaponized by democrats to say, he did not debate and -- likely to be trump at this point, american people deserve to see that. >> emily: i know we do and this ducktails into continued expectation and this president does not listen to us or care what americans want or deserve or expect from a commander-in-chief. we learned that yesterday. we covered the fact if trump wasn't running, he wouldn't run. why expect anything less than to dial it in, it is whatever will be the most preservation pointed tactic and strategy possible. there has been leaks and disappointments, end of the day, everyone is saying he's the candidate and why shouldn't we have our candidate who is our incumbent president defend his policies. eight out of 10 think their economy is are 52, seven out of 10 hate the economy and eight out of 10 have dipped into their savings. gives explanation why nothing has changed, not talking points or concepts, tell me why you decided how you have so we are living in a worse america. show your face, biden. >> kayleigh: joe biden does not want to stand toe to toe on this debate stage. this is february, this is politico, it is hidden, this is the strategy. senior democrats private take on biden, he's too old, biden folks believe trump or any other republican nominee will be reluctant to work on presidential debates, lessening chance and risk of head-to-head debate. >> dagen: it is not the age, it is cognitive decline ask and decay. >> ben: bingo. >> dagen: unchallenged biden on the most important issue has been an utter disaster from moment one. bidenomics, are we allowed to say that? democrats have abandoned that word because it represents i, joe biden, have inflicted intentional suffering and harm on you financially as a family and then i'm going to look at you and lie about it repeatedly for years. here is the latest, in the cnn poll, this is how bad it is, joe biden's approval is below 50% in virtually every group. for people under the age of 45, it is 33% approval and those without college degrees, it is 31%. number one, he fixated on the student loan forgiveness. 60% of people under 45 don't have a four-year college degree, number one. number two, on inflation, prices are still up 18% since he took office and inflation means prices are still going on, even though inflation is lower. he went on x and said, let me be clear to any -- it is time to stop price gouging, give american consumers a break. he doesn't understand how inflation even works. >> kayleigh: you mention the cnn poll, if you are democratic president, you know it is bad when you lost cnn. >> he's 37% approval, 63% disashgsz proval, look at the number over time. he's been hanging out down here for some time, this entire year has been a downward slide to new low of 37%. take a look, this was approval rating at this point in their presidency and note here, he's at the bottom of this list, this is a real warning sign for joe biden. does not have majority approval among african americans nor does he with latinos, 34% approval among young voters. this is all warning sign for joe biden, pretty poor outlook from the american people, only 29% assess conditions as good, 71% say poor. his approval rating on the economy is worse than overall approval rating. >> they are trying hard with bidenomicses, trying to tell people how to feel and it doesn't always work. >> kayleigh: marie, that is not good. >> marie: you enjoyed that segment a lot. >> kayleigh: i did, not the economy ones. >> marie: i do think joe biden will debate, the question is will donald trump. i would have liked to have seen him on stage last night. nate cohen, did one of the polls that had democrats bedwetting, he said national polls are not predictive, but concerning. >> kayleigh: these are worse. >> marie: we know elections are not national elections, they are state elections. i'm a democrat and concerned by the numbers, i think joe biden has done a lot that has helped in the economic sense and difficult economy for a bunch of reasons. i think the campaign has work to do to get the message out. >> ben: more than a lot of work. >> marie: every time democrats have been on the ballot we've overperformed expectations. >> kayleigh: that's true. >> marie: numbers are very bad, donald trump approval ratings are bad. if donald trump is convicted of a crime, nationally in a general election, i think his approval ratings will go down, we are deciding between two people. joe biden has done so much for this country, he should get re-elected. >> ben: then get on stage and debate. >> marie: he will, you can bet on it, he will. >> kayleigh: i'll bet. >> marie: we'll take that bet. >> ben: he's been there for a while, cnn is saying that. number two, absolutely donald trump will get on stage and debate and you account be one of the worst debaters in the world and joe biden is a layup for everyone. democratic party will look and say i cannot put this man on stage, how do we get out of it. maybe they will figure out a new covid to get out of it, nothing they will not do, he would be decimated by anybody. >> kayleigh: that is true. i underscore
