"wall street journal." dan henninger. hamas seizes the advantage. this is what he writes today. he talks about in the u.s. we've arrived at a familiar crossroads amid a growing atmosphere of civil disorder much organized. we can stand back and live with it and push back deciding the price to our own security could be too high. end quote. you think last night in mid town manhattan outside our building here. he is right. >> dana: also on college campuses across america and hollywood, right? yes, i would say you push back. >> bill: the prediction he makes in her is hamas is buying time. the more time they buy the more they'll put pressure on the u.s. government to get the israelis to pull back on going back into gaza. we'll see. >> dana: more on that as it comes. recent elections show conservative politics on the rise in europe. a right leaning populous party making major gains in netherlands climate and there is discontent among voters. >> last week the netherlands experienced what the times of london newspaper here calls a political earthquake. the dutch elected a man named wilders, a conservative described as similar to donald trump. brash, humorous, accused of hate speech primarily against islam. dutch voters don't like grandstanders and considered a moderate country but they elected wilders in a loss of confidence in the mainstream political establishment as issues like immigration and the economy have grown increasingly important to the dutch. >> we will make sure that the netherlands will be for the dutch people again. we'll restrict the migration. people will have more money in their wallet again. >> the problem for willeders, netherlands prime ministers don't necessarily inher et power. he is from the freedom party and has to form a coalition to govern. it might prove difficult. willeders election comes with a political shift across europe described as a populous wave. consider the rise of conservative political parties. right wing parties are now in power in italy, hungary. la penn is rising in popularity and becoming competitive and she says wilders victory last week gives hope to the rest of europe. dana and bill. >> bill: so jerry baker, "wall street journal" editor at large. good morning. we tried to explain what we think is going on there. maybe what it portends here. >> it started with donald trump and brexit when britain voted in 2016 ahead of the u.s. election to leave the europey own union. people have had enough of the elites driving policy in a particular direction creating a globalist initiative. they don't like the open borders, immigration. they don't like a lot of green policies you heard about. they don't like the sense the elites are in control of these countries and telling people what's good for them. you had a revolte with donald trump. you had it in italy as you just heard a few years ago with brexit and now the netherlands. the right wing in europe is advancing across the board. europeans the end to look at america and think we're kind of -- we don't like that rather brash american style of politics. actually they are embracing it increasingly and i think you'll see it spread further. >> dana: i think about the farmers in the netherlands who said we have had enough especially because based on my experience, people who are farming and taking care of land and producing, they understand how to do that and the government comes in and tries to tell them how to do it and there is a reaction. is that spreading now beyond medicine, farming, manufacturing, all of it? it seems like it is growing. will it grow also throughout asia? is that next? >> political culture is different in asia but you're right. the farming theme in the netherlands is important. that was a green initiative about the government telling people what crops they can grow and how they can grow them and what sort of materials they should use to do that. people have been farming for years and depend on that for a living and essentially put out of business by it. the other big thing in the netherlands that is important across europe is immigration. people -- in particular the levels of crime that you've seen not always associated with immigration but in many cases. another country to watch out for is sweden. it is rampant out of control gang warfare almost entirely by immigrants, many illegal immigrants. people have had enough. you saw it happen in ireland last week. we don't know exactly what happened. somebody was believed to be an immigrant attacked people at a school. this is going to be, i have think, the defining political issue of our time in the sense of taking our countries back. >> bill: closing borders, finland trying to do it with russia, too. henry kissinger, dead at the age of 100. "wall street journal" said henry kissinger' century. in u.s. secretary of state never achieved such celebrity in office at henry kissinger and no other one have been more criticized. critics are online today. what he was doing in the early 1970s was extraordinary. soviet union, nuclear war, china, vietnam war, all of that was happening at the same time. >> exactly. henry kissinger has critics and he would say he didn't get everything right and controversial things he did. the defining legacy of henry kissinger is that -- it is a great tribute to america. america's ability to produce extraordinarily talented people exactly at the right moment. america's great good fortune or great key to its success that henry kissinger was the critical foreign policy figure at the most critical time for the united states. in terms of bringing an end to the vietnam war, confronting the soviet union what it needed to do and the critical opening for china. if you think about those things, those things that happened, how she shaped the rest of the cold war and helped save america literally and save the west in the cold war. they were so important doing all those things at that time. it was -- henry kissinger was the architect of so much of that. he got some things wrong and have a lot of critics. but americans owe him a date of gratitude. >> dana: who is the henry kissinger of today? >> that's another very good question. >> dana: another topic for next tuesday. >> the great thing about this country the ability to produce -- sometimes it takes a bit of time and not work perfectly the first time but genius of producing people who rise to the occasion at the right moment and are exactly the right person for the right spot. >> bill: i hope you're right. >> i think it will happen again. >> bill: thanks for coming in. >> go -- yourself. is that clear? i hope it is. hey, bob, if you're in the audience. >> bill: this went on for a while and it was something else. elon musk with choice words for advertisers who have suspended their campaigns on x. what he also said about the future of that social media site. interesting stuff coming up here. >> dana: governors ron desantis and gavin newsom going toe-to-toe tonight. >> bill: aaron rodgers is back at practice. only three months since he tore his achilles. he is 39. could he take the field this season? the folks in the football world are asking that today. ♪ there's challenges, and i love overcoming challenges. ♪ when better money habits® content first started coming out, it expanded what i could do for special olympics athletes with developmental needs. thousands of bank of america employees like scott spend countless hours volunteering to teach people how to reach their financial goals. it felt good. it felt like i could take on the whole world. directv sports central brings your games, stats and scores together... and now you can get it without a satellite. one more reason to finally get rid of cable. but getting rid of the cable guy might not be as easy. oh yeah, touchback! visit directv.com for up to a $400 reward card. the ergo smart base from tempur-pedic automatically responds to snoring. so, no more hiding under your pillow. because this system actually detects snoring then adjusts to help reduce it. for a limited time, save up to $500 on select tempur-pedic adjustable mattress sets. honey, i think i heard something. ok. ♪ from christmas tree mats... to floorliners... cargo liners.... no drill mud flaps... seat protectors... and more... weathertech has the perfect holiday gift. honey, is everything ok? oh yeah. order at weathertech.com and don't forget weathertech gift cards. >> everyone is talking about this like it will be a fight, a slugfest, boxing match. really man-to-man, 9:00 p.m. tonight in georgia, atlanta suburb 20 miles to the north. divided city in a divided state. it will be the governor of florida versus the governor of california. sean hannity moderating, 90 minutes, no live audience. it will be a big picture debate about issues, how to govern the u.s., red state versus blue state. one unusual feature about this debate that's governor newsom. he is not a candidate. he is a surrogate for president biden perhaps positioning himself for an eventual run for president. as for governor desantis, many say he might be doing it to try to get a bump in the polls. >> he needs a spark going into iowa and new hampshire and believes if he can go toe-to-toe with one of the leading democrats in the country and a proper proponent about left leaning. >> governor newsom will attack florida's abortion law and try to make the claim desantis wants to put women in prison. governor desantis is likely to say governor newsom has made such a mess of california's economy that a million people have left the state in the past two years, many moving to florida. bill, back to you. >> bill: let's do it, right, steve? 9:00 in prime time. nice to see you, thanks. >> if you ended up with a newsom, they would have policies that would really accelerate the decline of this country. i think florida represents a model where we can reverse the decline and have an american revival. >> you don't like him? >> i don't like people that demonize other people or go after vulnerable communities and also don't like liars. >> dana: i have been looking forward to this for two months. so excited that it is happening. i'm looking forward to some substantive debate on topics where they will be able to have time to answer the questions. mary kathryn, what are you looking forward to tonight? >> i'm excited about this. one, because these are two people who can speak fluently about different visions for america. i think one of them is not a great vision and causes people to leave the state of california for the state of florida which has in migration in huge numbers. something that governor ron desantis will use against newsom. but even though i disagree with newsom i like that both guys are getting in the arena. we have two frontrunners in biden and trump right now who are not making an argument to the american people in an arena where their ideas can be tested in large part. biden occasionally takes a question, trump does rallies. they will face off to tough questions from each other and the moderator and i appreciate them going to voters and making the argument and excited to hear it. >> dana: dave, you are a one-person focus group for this. you left california and moved to florida and ron desantis is somebody that you think does a really great job. what are you looking at tonight? >> well look, the contrast between these two guys is absolutely staggering. exactly the fight america is having and needs to have. there is one guy, desantis, have truth, facts, economics, reality and policing and get of ride of wokeism and all those things on his side and another guy who i like to give the devil his due. i mean it literally. he is a slick salesman and that's all he is. everything gavin newsom touches turn to crap. i can't recommend anyone go to san francisco. he was once the mayor of san francisco and we know what happened to that place. california has lost a million people in two years and florida not only are they getting a huge bulk of the people first time republican voters like many of the people in my two companies who moved to florida with me, florida, when ron desantis became governor 4 1/2 years ago or so had 400,000 more democrats than republicans. it is now 500,000 more republicans than democrats. that's a 900,000 person swing. we're the freest state in the nation. everything that america is about is happening here the right way. everyone knows that's not what is happening in california. i hope desantis brings it and shows people what's what. >> dana: i think sean is a great interviewer. it will be wonderful. i will sit there with percy by my side, peter too, probably. also want to get to this. it is very interesting. i know both of you are on x, i am, too. that would be formerly twitter, not the drug. elon musk had a take yesterday with -- i just realized being on the five. we're not on x but we tweet a lot. elon musk had said that. >> if somebody will black bluely me with advertising and money, go bleep yourself. go bleep yourself. is that clear? i hope it is. hey, bob, if you're in the audience. >> let me ask you then. >> that's how you feel. don't advertise. >> dana: he is saying don't advertise. mary kathryn, what happens to x in the future. >> if everybody pulls out and it is -- i think he does unwise think and said unwise things and cops to that in part of this interview and apologizes for things he tweeted and said it was one of the more foolish things i've done. however, i do think there is merit to this idea of standing up and saying look, you can say sorry for certain things but you don't have to lay down for every bully that comes to your doorstep. he is good at this and dana white is also good at this and just granted both of them have a lot of resources in order to be good at it but what they have at their back and say to people absolutely not. i won't bend at every one of your requests. i think college administrators and college presidents would be better off if they took a little bit of that energy to their own students trying to bully them recently. >> dana: dave, final word. >> dana, elon is almost single handedly saving free speech in this country. we don't trust big tech or big government. in light of the events of the last two months since october 7th, there is one platform that is allowing people to exchange ideas freely. sometimes that can be a little pain in the butt when the bots get in there and mean people are on there. everyone who cares about the first amendment should stand by elon musk right now. >> dana: i will be watching on x what you think about the debate. >> i'm not on x right now. >> bill: it's early. >> dana: hemmer we're not sure at this point. thanks, guys. the stage is set. newsom versus desantis squaring off on fox news tonight moderated by sean hannity. tune in with all of us. >> if i leave, they win. if i leave, the bullies take place. this is bullying. >> bill: this is something else. happened just an hour ago. the new york republican george santos defending himself at a press conference that went on and on and faces the possibility of expulsion. will it happen?
