kissinger passed away at his home in connecticut yesterday. he was 100 years old. you are watching "fox and friends first" on thursday morning, i'm carley shimkus. >> todd: i'm todd piro. kissinger was a leading voice in major decisions impacting the united states and the entire world. >> i came to this country as a refugee from germany. so i have known in a way that native-born americans cannot experience what this country means to the downtrodden and to those who need a ray of hope. >> todd: griff jenkins has more on his life and legacy. >> griff: his strategic decision advised five presidents from nixon to trump, his firm kissinger associates made the announcement saying a respected american scholar and statesman died today in connecticut in his home. reaction from around the globe. secretary blinken praising his contributions from israel. >> set the standard for everyone who followed and in this job. few people were better students of history, even fewer people did more to shape history than henry kissinger. >> former secretary of state mike pompeo writing, henry kissinger was a model of service and a great american. from the day he came to the united states as a teen dr. kissinger served this great country and ep cooing america safe. the often controversial -- fled germany, came to america in 1938, became an american citizen in nee 43 and joined the army and received bronze star in world war ii. after the war, he earned bachelors, masters aphd from harvard and nixon appointed him in 1969 and he served as secretary of state serving nixon and ford. he's noted for using tension with the soviet union and establishing u.s. diplomatic relations with china. former president george w bush saying this, america has lost one of the most dependable and distinctive voices with the passing of henry kissinger. he counseled many. dr. kissinger is survived by his wife, two children and grandchildren, henry kissinger dead at 100. >> todd: thank you. bring in robert charles, assistant secretary of state for former president george w bush. your reflections on the life and legacy of henry kissinger? >> you know, todd and carley, kissinger is almost hard to put into a sound bite, he was a titanic figure in the 19th century as your reports have indicated, guiding and help shape major issues for decades. he had four or five stand-out qualities and more than that, four or five issues he really defined. the end of the vietnam war, some blamed him not ending it faster and the paris accords, his work, why he got the noble peace prize. he did open china and really modern china wouldn't be there today without kissinger, for better and worse. he invented diplomacy and october of '73, you had the yom kippur war and egyptian troops were tangled with israeli troops and he went back and forth between egypt and israel to tidy up and get that ended and his capstone in many ways was datante, idea he could apply ideas he studied at harvard, the balance of super power or big power or great power and apply to soviet union and the united states. although henry kissinger is rightly revered as a tactician and extraordinary thinker, he also frankly was not ronald reagan and ronald reagan blew the corners off that box and said we have to call the soviet union an evil entity and take action accordingly. he was controversial, but he was also titanic. >> carley: he was born in germany as an orthodox jew and his family fled nazi germany for the united states and he became a naturalized citizen. the start of his life was marked by antisemitism and shortly before his death, i'm sure he saw this new wave of antisemitism in the united states because of everything going on in israel. how do you think -- how do you think he would view the two main global conflicts taking place in israel and also in ukraine? >>-- >> todd: i think we may have lost robert charles, hope we can get him back. that is a fascinating question you asked. here is somebody who devoted his life to the cause of antisemitism, in many respects, to peace, to -- i don't want to say anti-soviet union, ronald reagan really drove that home. at the end of the day, last month of what he accomplished had somewhat unravelled. >> carley: in a sad way, his life saw this full-circle moment, where it started before world war ii, he was forced to flee with his family nazi germany and people are making comparison to that time and rise of antisemitism right now >> ainsley: the world. he served during world war ii, in the army. he worked as a translator and intelligence operation in germany, helped round up members and awarded a bronze star. world war ii impacted his world view. he lived a long and storied life and made it to 100 years old, a mile marker not many of us see. >> todd: quite a influence on many leaders. breaking overnight, three dead and several hurt in what the idf is calling the terror attack in jerusalem. live on the ground with everything we know about the palestinian gunmen and ties to hamas. >> carley: mobs of protesters take over the streets, clashing with nypd during the rockefeller christmas tree lighting. we will have response next. hillsdale was founded in 1844 we're passing on a cultural heritage, the culture of the west when the federal government started giving money to colleges, we didn't take it. that independence has allowed us to stay with our mission that we established 175 years ago. because we don't accept federal money, we are free to concentrate on the mission of the college we care about freedom and that affiliates us with the free institutions of america. i told myself i was ok with my moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. with my psoriatic arthritis symptoms. but just ok isn't ok. and i was done settling. if you still have symptoms after a tnf blocker like humira or enbrel, rinvoq is different and may help. rinvoq is a once-daily pill that can rapidly relieve joint pain, stiffness, and swelling in ra and psa. relieve fatigue for some... and stop joint damage. and in psa, can leave skin clear or almost clear. rinvoq can lower your ability to fight infections, including tb. serious infections and blood clots, some fatal; cancers, including lymphoma and skin; heart attack, stroke, and gi tears occurred. people 50 and older with a heart disease risk factor have an increased risk of death. serious allergic reactions can occur. tell your doctor if you are or may become pregnant. done settling? >> to me, son of holocaust survivors, it is offensive. they don't know what they are talking about when they talk about genocide. i do not recall ceasefire, any negotiations in world war ii. they have no idea what they are talking about, not just disrupt and offend, they do it on purpose. just compromise and discredit the whole idea of peaceful protest. >> carley: you hit the nail on the head, you mentioned disruption, the christmas tree lighting and they shut down the manhattan bridge this past sunday, so commuters couldn't get home and macy's thanksgiving day parade, glueing themselves to sixth avenue. who are they trying to persuade with this behavior? "new york post" op ed pointed out this is exact opposite approach taken by martin luther king. he aimed for orderly protest to convince people and speak to humanity of all this. that is not happening here at all. >> 300,000 people came and it was peaceful and strong and powerful message. they sent police and america and israel's message was sent not like we see in new york. i believe most of them -- my opinion. >> carley: that comparison is spot on, when you think about how many people peacefully protested together in washington, d.c. and what we're seeing in new york city and cities across the country with pro-palestinian protesters. how do you feel about mayor eric adams and how he is handling it? >> he clearly expressed sympathy to israel and his pro-israel stance. i would like nypd to be more forceful in terms of arresting, everybody should be equal under the law. i participated in many celebrate israel parades and everything was very peaceful -- in the world. >> carley: yeah. let's talk about the war itself, there is reporting president biden got on the phone with prime minister netanyahu a few days ago and said, you can't operate in the south of gaza the same way you are in the north because that is where palestinian people are. how do you feel about that cautious approach the president warned the prime minister to take? >> i believe idf, one of the most, if not the most humane army in the world. nobody would do anything like this, bomb here, bomb here, move to this location, talk about who is and who is not. i would say america should send strong message to its ally israel and the whole world we stand for humanity against terror. hamas hates israel and america and all decent people of the world and i'm grateful to this network for standing for israel in this difficult time. what just happened -- terror attack, i would like demonstrators to hold a sign, we condemn hamas. they are saying we condemn hamas, i don't remember it. >> carley: humanity against terror. thank you. over to you. >> todd: the five year old chiefs fan addresses controversy in a fox news exclusive. >> a lot of kids at school are getting excited, it is starting to get me nervous. >> it's been a whirlwind of comments, it is not okay. this nine year old boy supporting his team. >> todd: we'll bring more from this interview and tell you how kansas city chiefs fans are planning show him support at sunday's game. and giving up final season to serve the country, you will love this story, don't go anywhere. okay, i'm on my way. uh. ugh! out of ink?
