hour hamas saying it is delaying the release of the second group of hostages. its military wing it claims israel has not held up its end of the deal on letting aid trucks into gaza where the temporary cease-fire appears to be holding for a second day. hello everyone welcome to fox news live i am arthel neville. jonathan: i am a jonathan hunt in for eric shawn. israel was preparing to exchange 42 palestinian prisoners for 14 israelis held hostage since october 7 terror attacks. protests erupted outside the west bank prison drink one transfer today. at least two palestinians were hurt at a nearby checkpoint. israeli security forces fired tear gas and rubber bullets to contain the crowd. sources tell us negotiators from qatar and egypt are trying to resolve the delay in freeing the next round of hostages. the first group of 24 people were released yesterday and included 13 israelis, for children and nine women. some in their 80s. but israel is not satisfied yet. >> every moment hamas is kept on to those hostages since october 7, every moment holds them in the dark and their families in the dark is an ongoing crime against humanity. hamas could release those hostages now but hamas could have released him yesterday. thomas could've released them october 7 and never had to abduct children from their beds in the first place we are demanding hamas continue to return the hostages. >> let's go to jeff paul he is alive in southern israel. what more can you tell us there? >> it underscores how fragile this agreement is between hamas and israel. by this time last night 24 hostages had made it back into israel. obviously today some really significant delays. according to a blue statement released by hamas comes onto a couple of things they say israel is not leading up to its site of the agreement paid one being the amount of aid trucks that are reaching northern gaza. the other being a discrepancy with exactly who is being released from the israeli jail the prisoners and there is some objection to the seniority, how long they have served and who exactly is being released. israel on the other hand saying no, it's quite the opposite. it is not his us we are holding up our end of the bargain. it is hamas not releasing the hostages. quite a contrast to what we saw yesterday. that is when it was a very smooth and sort of coordinated, orchestration of people getting out. you had a 7:00 a.m. cease-fire. that has held so far. then you had hamas handing over the hostages . hewitt aid trucks coming in. those hostages reach the rafah crossing into egypt and eventually into israel. there's a huge difference from yesterday. that has caused a lot of fears about the cease-fire holding up for it we are in southern israel i can tell you it is the first time i have been here. not wearing a protective vest because the cease-fire has held for more than 24 hours. we are on 36 hours at this point. but there is a lot of concern at this goes any longer in these hostages don't make it out that of course could change and on top of that you had to think about the families. last night we were told as many as 13 families we are told it was their loved one on the list that was getting out today. they are at hospitals right now they are eagerly awaiting to welcome their loved ones back whom they have not seen for seven weeks now. it was seven weeks ago today put on top of all of that you got the outside pressure of the qatar mediators are trying to get both sides to agree to this closer and closer to it being sunday. it is at 9:00 o'clock here right now we have about three more hours until it is sunday there are increasing fears of how things could change if the cease-fire is going to hold up. arthel: you mentioned qatar and egypt those of the players trying to get this delay it back on the table. any indication this may be resolved anytime soon? >> that is the hope from at least the israeli perspective. they want to get their hostages back. you have egypt and you have qatar who essentially but there negotiators out on the line appeared we are sort of pride proudwhat they have done. two sides have zero trust in each other to come together and to agree to something. it's quite remarkable seven weeks into this war have had two nights of enough banknote and b, no fighting, we have had no rocket warnings being fired into gaza. there's a lot of at stake not for israel and gaza but a lot at stake for that mediators who put a lot on the line to make sure this agreement goes through. the sister gone for four days in total we are only on day two right now. the promises of day to have not come to fruition. arthel: jeff paul a lot happening there thank you for the report live in southern israel thanks. jonathan: thanks arthel but meantime president biden is still in nantucket for the long weekend. he has yet to address the delay in freeing a second round of hostages. but yesterday he held the first release as a sign of progress. while no americans were among those set free, the president said he was still quote expecting it to occur. lucas tomlinson is alive and in nantucket with the latest on the presidents thoughts on this ongoing hostage deal. >> that is right for it white be officials say they do not expect any american hostages to be released today but are hopeful some of our release in the coming days. speaking here at yesterday president biden was asked candidly when are we going to see american hostages released? this was his reply. >> we do not know when that will occur but we expected to occur. i don't trust hamas to do anything rates. i only trust hamas to respond to pressure. vice president biden said weeks of u.s. diplomacy help free the first hostages. over 200 made in captivity and up to 10 americans but white house officials are hopeful three americans including the little american girl abigail who just turned four years old yesterday, hamas refused to release her to celebrate her birthday. again white house officials do not expect any hostages to beat released today but president biden also had this message for hamas. >> hundred mort trucks are getting in position as well ready to enter gaza over the coming days to support the innocent palestinians who are suffering greatly because of this war that hamas is on leash. hamas does not care about them. >> free palestine. free palestine. free palestine progress after speaking president biden and the first lady were heckled by protesters were walking to lunch for the president later did some shopping here in town for the protesters later filed the president and his family including hunter bite into the annual christmas tree lighting ceremony. speaking of the holidays with hanukkah approaching many would like to see more hostages released. something that posits combat will help hamas but here's retired u.s. air force general. >> hamas only want to take advantage of the pause to reposition, rearm, and reorganize. and unfortunately the impact is the israeli defense forces will lose some of the military advantage that it has gained so far. particular as intelligence gets more stale. i don't know if your audience understands this but drone operations have also been seized as a condition of this pause. >> jonathan there's been no pause in attacks against u.s. forces in the middle east we have learned the pentagon u.s. troops in iraq and syria were attacked four times over thanksgiving. bringing the total to 73 since the beginning of last month. the u.s. air force has replied with airstrikes, responded about four times that is about one airstrike for every 20 times u.s. troops have been attacked. >> lucas, in terms of the hostage deal we assume the bite adminbidenadministration is notg directly to hamas. what do we know about what they are saying to israel about pressure to keep the cease-fire going? >> white house officials say it's engaged throughout the vacation here in nantucket. he is receiving multiple upd updates. speaking to his national security advisor jake sullivan. the white house and president biden is putting pressure on israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. they like to see the cease-fire extended to get more hostages released and ultimately a cease-fire to end the war. when you see all the hostages released before that happens. >> lucas tomlinson at the present and nantucket. thank you lucas. arthel: jonathan we have breaking news we are just getting word from qatar negotiators the hostage hold up has been resolved. too that u.s. and a member of the israeli. were not sure the details in terms of exactly one this it now kink has been released out of this chain if you will. when it will begin again. you cannot really trust hamas quite frankly. with this delay in the first place what message was hamas sending? what are they up to at this point? >> iit's so good to be with you. hamas is reminding us of who and what it is. it is a terrorist organization. s negotiated with isis or al qaeda. it of course is not honest negotiators. it's going to move the football. it's going to move the goalpost. the goal is not just to terrorize as a physically big terrorized emotionally. can you imagine what these humans are going through knowing at the last minute everything may fall through? or even the people on the list of the's hostages scheduled to be released may not be released. hamas will do this again and again i'm not the least surprised by this delay are any delays going to occur for the end of the cease-fire. the five qatar does not necessarily have loved ones on the line and wanting to get back them into their arms. but they have a lot at stake in terms of putting themselves very forward facing on the negotiation. you can imagine the officials are working diligently to try to get this to get to run as smoothly as possible given the circumstances. but where we sit now, what does that pretend or a potential extension to this pause inviting? >> just to show how absurd the situation is comic qatar is a principal backer of hamas. major hamas officials live in qatar. it's getting it both ways it's promoting the atrocities in horror as of october 7 promoting the hostage crisis and getting i gettingcredit for trying to re crisis. you cannot make this up. so qatar's reputation is on the line and it can't produce that it can't produce hostages. it's left holding we promoted hamas which is part qatar. they are rife with dangers for the state of israel. and to a comment previously said, hamas will use this. to reorganize, to rearm, to move troops from the south up north again. israel has to make a terrible decision this is a libel very much liable to cost us in terms of my soldiers lives when the cease-fire renews. even when the renews get the fighting renewed is more problematic because there is momentum in the world. you agree to the cease-fire not why not a longer cease-fire. there is domestic pressure within israel for that effect. herhere's the bottom line. the cease-fire means hamas gets away with mass murder. cease-fire means hamas wins. emmons israel cannot restore its internal security. we have 250,000 refugees inside the state of israel who been moved away from the border. cannot go back to those border areas if hamas is allowed to rearm and mount further attacks. they had said openly that is their goal. arthel: israel has said once the hostages are released as much as possible we hope, the fighting will continue. they had said that part out loud. it almost begs the question, what is the point of what's happening now? is it strictly for hamas to regroup there forces they can reorganize for they are a more formidable force against the idf. even the idf's bring. no matter what you do were coming for you basically. there are two basic points which have to be stressed here. they would not be negotiating now the way it is negotiating the officials had not moved its ground forces into gaza and close the noose around hamas. they've been underground for seven weeks to hardly fighting at all. there terrorist come up, shooting rpg and antitank missile and then run back down. they are under siege. hamas is playing for time and helping the international community will increase this pressure to accept the cease-fire. it means victory. the second point is the most difficult point so brace your self hamas will not release all the hostages. it has once it released the last hostage is when israel will flood those tunnels with seawater or some flammable substance and that will be the end of hamas. i think the goal for israel is they want to get as many hostages out partook of the women, children, the elderly, the infirm and to renew it that pressure on hamas by restarting the military stage of this battle. arthel: a conundrum indeed the breaking news according to qatar it negotiators the hostages the second badge or group will be released today quickly what do you make of the fact middle americans are included in the second group? >> it is moving the football again. what is hamas trying to do question one is trying to drive a wedge between the nights it's in israel. it is causing -- mike is raising tension on the american side and hopefully the americans put pressure on israel to extend the cease-fire to get more american prisoners out. do you see how this works? it is ingenious it is a sinister. that is what we are dealing with. they are not an honest negotiator than not going to negotiate in good faith they are a terrorist group. they will terrorize both us and the people of the united states on this holiday weekend. arthel: a former israeli ambassador to the u.s., michael thank you very much for joining us. >> thank you. ♪ [background noises] jonathan: thousands of protesters flooding the streets of manhattan demanding a permanent cease-fire in gaza during a busy black friday shopping yesterday. more rallies taking place across new york city today. demonstrators have vowed to shut down the big apple every day next week. alexandria hoff is alive with the latest on those protests for. >> the latest action: sides of the biggest holiday shopping weekend of the year. protesters have been using that to their advantage. right on the first of two in the series of pro- palestinian protest is set to begin in upper manhattan. this another plant in new york columbus circle later today. yesterday, at least 1000 anti- israel rally goers met in washington square park calling for a palestinian uprising in the middle east. from there a massive crowd march town swimming black friday shoppers and demanding their attention. >> people want to shop peacefully. you know and then you have this. it's getting a little out of hand. i don't know what to tell you. it needs to stop a quick chicago shoppers in the downtown were confronted similarly it yesterday, told not to spend money on buying gifts. all part of a nationwide call to action entitled shut it down for palestine. >> and biden and, let harris who are allowing this to happen. they are complicit in this genocide. they have blood on their hands and we are going to hold them responsible. >> in cities big and small major traffic disruptions were reported. los angeles police issued a precautionary citywide tactical alert yesterday as a large group of anti- israel protesters disrupted travel and shopping at the grove shopping plaza buried here in d.c. in the d.c. area we sought too. we had some smaller groups causing traffic backlogs in the city and around the popular tysons corner shopping center in virginia. about eight protesters in atlanta were arrested yesterday for refusing to disperse from a roadway. jonathan: alexandria hoff, thank you. arthel: again qatar official saying moments ago the second round of hostages will be released after a short standoff. meanwhile the temporary cease-fire in gaza is still holding. our coverage continues after a short break. if you've had enough of the uncontrolled symptoms of psoriasis... that have you worrying about covering up, it's time to get real with your dermatologist. make an appointment and ask about real clear skin. visit letsgetrealclear.com the winter play was really coming together. until... disaster struck. luckily, replacement costumes were shipped with fedex. which means mr. harvey... could picture the perfect night. we're delivering more happy for the holidays. my mom's life is the most important thing to me. hi mom! i called my mom, "i have this gene and i think you need to get tested." she feels like it was truly lifesaving. you're probably not easily persuaded to switch mobile providers for your business. but what if we told you it's possible that comcast business mobile can save you up to 75% a year on your wireless bill versus the big three carriers? >> jonathan, here is where i come with this one. the tactical and operational commander on the ground in gaza, is a lifelong hamas leader has been systematically feeling the noose as a result of israel's pressure cooker campaign. he is doing what he can or has been doing what he can to initiate this cease-fire. he is the one who put it forward. the reason why is because of the pressure he felt the only reason israel agreed to the cease-fire is because hostages have always been israel's number one priority with this operation. as far as the cease-fire stopping and now continuing, i believe it's because israel has made it very clear to hamas that if you do not release the hostages that you agreed to it we will continue and even up the aggression as far as special operations forces on the ground and as far as continued surgical airstrikes throughout gaza. he has felt that pressure. terror operates in a vacuum of power. once that power gets taken away israel understands it then he is going to back down and that is what has continued that is my opinion based on my understanding of the middle east and how this works with groups like hamas. before we have a pause in fighting but that does not of course mean there is a pause in strategic planning. with fe your experience, what is the idf doing what is expected to be a four-day cease-fire? >> it is an excellent question. the first thing is they're going to make sure those supplies which hamas they want to play games with this actually getting to the palestinian people. the medicine, the fuel not being diverted to hamas. number one is making sure the 700 trucks get in without being tainted and without making its way into the hands of the tunnels into hamas terrorists. two will be continued intelligence gathering operation israel is very good at. while this initial attack on october 7 may have been an intelligence failure as i mention israel cannot check every stone they cannot check every fence line's no different than going back to the ward 67 is always going to be mistakes but israel but she might israel live and keep listening to phone calls and their intelligence gathering services are going to quietly keep floating aerial assets around the going to
