footage is released showing hostages held nearly seven weeks held by hamas taken back to israeli soil. 13 hostages headed home, the first wave headed into gaza and into the hands of the international red cross and egyptian officials. getting to see a chance to see loved ones, some young ones are unaware their parents are dead. >> john roberts and sandra smith have the day off. special edition of "america reports," a live look at the petunia checkpoint in the west bank, prisoners are expected to be reunited with families. 13 israelis have been freed under the israel-hamas deal and the egyptian state information service says ten thai nationals and one filipino have also been released in a completely separate deal. according to the idf, israeli special forces are with hostages who underwent medical checks inside israel. >> this is the moment the hostages crossed back home into israel. and the country and those around the world were able to at least for a moment cheer their return. arthel has more. adam. >> adam helped negotiate the abraham accords is standing by to weigh in on the hostage release, lucas tomlinson will have the president's reaction, president biden, to the release of the hostages. jeff paul has more on the identities of hostages released. alex hogan is live near tel aviv where the youngest hostages are expected to be treated. but first, trey yingst is live in southern israel where for the 13 hostages, the first stop on the road home, trey. >> hey, arthel, good afternoon. for the 13 israelis, headed here to the air base in southern israel where they will receive further medical treatment and then go on to hospitals in the central part of the country. a day of anticipation for the israeli people, waiting to find out any information if this deal would move forward. 7:00 a.m. local time a ceasefire in effect, and the israeli military ready to receive the hostages. they are escorted by special forces, along with the intelligence forces. 13 people, women and children, taken into gaza on october 7th, exchanged for 24 female palestinian prisoners and 15 male palestinian teenagers. hours since the ceasefire went into effect. other than a few rocket, it has been quiet. and we do anticipate the first of four days of releases for these hostages. the israelis do expect to get back 50 people as part of a larger deal that was negotiated by the qataris. but what we can report, 13 israelis are back in israeli territory after crossing from egypt earlier today. back to you. >> trey, no doubt this is a moment of relief for those families of the 13 hostages that have been released. it is still a bittersweet moment, because we have more than 200 people still being held hostage. but there we saw when they were transferred into the hands of red cross to be processed and taken good care of, we expect. there is a moment of cheering. what's the mood like, the anticipation of what's to come? >> absolutely. there is a sense here on the ground in israel that each and every one of these hostages represents the israeli people, represents the collective trauma that this country has suffered since october 7th. nearly 50 days of war, and when we look at the faces of these hostages that were released today, they are individuals with family members and loved ones that have been waiting for nearly seven weeks for any answers. i think of the young 9-year-old boy who when it was his birthday in late october we talked about him, and he celebrated his birthday in captivity, in hamas territory. and today he's back in israel, not just alone, though, he was released with his mother and grandmother. so many families breathing a sigh of relief and others waiting for answers about their loved ones, more than 200 people still being held inside gaza and this agreement is incredibly delicate because each and every hour that passes there is that possibility that the ceasefire is broken. and in the past, hamas has used these opportunities to play psychological games with israel amid these conflicts. so we are looking at an unprecedented event. the negotiations are happening at a level never before seen in the region and part of the reason every day is unpredictable. and the list of hostages released tomorrow by hamas has not yet been delivered. it has gone past the deadline. so each and every day is its own event. today still israelis waiting to get updates about the 13 that were released, but what we understand, the majority of them are in stable condition. they will receive medical treatment, not just physical but also psychological, to make sure that they are mentally ok in all of this. but tonight again, israel is celebrating in part because they know there will be difficult days of war ahead and uncertain days ahead but they have 13 of their fellow citizens home. >> kevin: you can understand why there might be celebrate and yet curious about skepticism. you mentioned deadlines going by. is there a healthy amount of skepticism about the future of more deals, about this idea of pausing, will that rearm or perhaps give reprieve to hamas? >> yeah, it's a great, great question, kevin. when we poll the average israeli and ask what they think about the ceasefire, people have mixed feelings. they have been waiting for hostages to come home. there is a bring them home campaign across the country and see people wearing dog tags, putting signs in their windows, they are tying yellow ribbons to their cars trying to raise awareness and in the forefront of people's minds the hostages being held. but there are thousands of israeli infantry and special troops on the ground in gaza holding territory this hour and they know the ceasefire will put them at a disadvantage, give hamas and islamic jihad the opportunity to reorganize and ship weapons and fighters around so they can attack when the war does resume in a matter of days. there is no reporting and no indication from the officials that we talked to on the ground that this ceasefire will be anything but temporary. this will be a lull in the fighting, an opportunity to use diplomatic channels to get as many hostages out as possible and then going back to battle. israeli officials understand this war is not over. there are still hostages inside gaza and they have not yet completed their mission to destroy hamas leadership and demilitarize the gaza strip. >> a moment of relief but far from over. thank you very much, trey yingst. >> kevin: learning more about the 13 hostages released, including names and ages, youngest release being just two years old and the eldest, 85. and jeff paul is live in tel aviv for us. jeff. >> it is a little bittersweet, you think about the 13 released, about you so many are being held against their will in gaza. this could lead to more people coming home, hopefully, according to officials here, hopefully all more than 230 people. we are learning a little bit more about the 13 specific israelis who were released today. we'll start with this list. we have 34-year-old doron katz asher, and raz, four years old, aviv, asher, two years old. daniel and amelia aloni, and ruth munder, and kerenmunder, and ohad munder, and ad adina moshe, 72, hannah katzir, and margalit moses, 77, and hanna perry, 79 years old. and a delicate matter. you have the ongoing ceasefire at 7:00 a.m., that has to hold, so far it has, and on top of that, the aid that is coming into gaza for the civilians there who are in desperate need of that. on top of that, you have this sort of careful handoff between hamas, a recognized terrorist organization, hamas and the red cross takes them through the rafah crossing and into egypt and israel, and supposed to happen every day. and you have israel who has to fulfill its promises by releasing palestinian prisoners. we know that they have released at least 30 palestinian prisoners today. has to happen not only once, but three more times. it's very tense over the next couple of days, kevin. >> kevin: i am only imagine. thank you. and we will check back in with you as news breaks. >> israeli hospitals are preparing to care for the 13 women and children once they arrive back in the country. alex hogan is live outside the schneider medical center where the children will be treated and alex, what's the scene there, what more can you tell us? >> hi, arthel. this is the main hospital we will see a lot of those children arrive, worth noting the remarkable news, three sets of mothers and their children will officially be back with their families tonight, including one father we have had him on fox before, he's been really across international media, a man who, his daughter, his two daughters and wife were taken the same day on october 7th, and an example of one person tonight who will be reunited likely at the hospital behind me. heart warming stories after so many weeks of grief but are hearing of course from officials and doctors about the long road ahead that will be for these victims. what they have been through in the last seven weeks and the long road to recovery to rehabilitate them and make sure the path forward is as small craft advisory as possible. but this is just day one. we will continue hopefully to see the release of more hostages. one note that is concerning tonight, israel has not received the list of names of hostages who could be released tomorrow. that, of course, is going to create a lot of concern for the families of the other hostages who have not yet heard from the government that their loved ones might be among the lucky few as part of the group of 50 who will be released. so once the children and mothers arrive at the hospital, there is a helicopter pad, ambulances are waiting on stand-by, it could happen at any point in the coming hours and then taken inside for immediate medical care. their own separate part of the wing to make sure it's as private and comfortable as possible in what has been an incredibly traumatic seven weeks and overwhelming day for all of them. arthel. >> a long road ahead, we wish the best for those mothers and children. alex hogan, thank you. kevin. >> kevin: the biden administration closely monitoring the hostage transfer. u.s. officials adding that the white house is "doing all we can" to free american hostages. lucas tomlinson has more from nantucket, massachusetts, where the president may be commenting on the first wave of released hostages. >> that's right, kevin. moments ago the white house saying president biden will address the country in the next 30 minutes, no doubt talking about the hostages released today. and good news 24 hostages were released, still 212 hostages that remain in captivity inside gaza under hamas. and of course, that includes up to ten american citizens. president biden we heard earlier this week sounding hopeful that up to three americans would be included in this initial group of 50 hostages that are scheduled, that are expected to be released over the next four days. today, no americans were released and certainly the country holds its breath and wants to see americans released as included in this, for the hostages to get out. now, that also includes, kevin, 3-year-old abigail adon. we heard her story, her parents were killed, she waited for 16 hours, had to watch her parents slaughtered, one can only imagine the horror. you look left and right on the couch, look at your family members, cousins, daughters, just horrific. and certainly her reintegration into the world will be quite traumatic, but right now we can report that president biden is scheduled to make an announcement to address the country at 1:45 eastern time here in nantucket. we heard yesterday when he visited a fire house his fingers were crossed hoping some americans were released, the white house is expecting american hostages to be included in the first group of 50 hostages. >> kevin: we will be watching carefully. thank you for your reporting. arthel, back to you. >> kevin, bring in adam boehler, helped negotiate the abram accords and negotiate with the taliban on behalf of the trump administration and former ceo of the u.s. international development finance corporation. so, adam, this is a recipe with a dash of hope and a heaping amount of distrust as this hostage release is currently unfolding. we heard trey yingst and alex hogan report they have not released another list yet. so, what's likely taking place behind the scenes right now? >> i think having the qataris actively negotiating back and for the. we spent a lot of time with them with the amir and the individual that was foreign minister and is now prime minister, they are probably shuttling back and forth quite a bit. they have a really difficult task because hamas is a terrorist organization and they are trying to use leverage, but it is what has brought us to where today where we have released hostages. so, they have had some diplomatic success. >> kevin: adam, i want to ask about the deal as we understand it, hamas is to release 50 women and children, including three americans in exchange israel is supposed to release about 150 palestinian women and children. i'm curious, does it behoof hamas to release all ten american citizens or is there a concern they may hold them back until they get more concessions? >> hamas is going to use everything they can to have leverage. this deal is all about leverage. the reason we are in this situation is because israel was strong in the first place. when you think about hamas holding back americans, they are holding them back so they have leverage over the united states, just like they are doing it in wave over leverage. the other thing i note about the hamas deal, it gives you a view into hamas and how they think, they stopped israelis from flying drones. why? that's because they want during this time, these four days, to regroup in the south. and so the reason they are doing all of this is for leverage. now, it's good we have hostages coming back, i agree with that, i'm happy about it. but that's why you don't see americans out there today. leverage over the united states. >> adam, i want to read a quote from the wall street journal editorial on the israel-hamas hostage deal, says "even as israelis rejoice for the women and children who will return home, they know hamas is rejoicing too. its war crimes have been rewarded." so i ask you, was there any other way out of this? >> i think -- look, and just to bolt on to what you said, as the prisoners are being released right now, who have people chanting hamas, hamas, hamas, and the right way out, so there's two things we need to not forget. we've got 200, more than 200 other hostages and israel's goal is to eradicate hamas. no other answer here. and so what i think we are going to recognize is in a few days they are going to need to resume hostilities and they are going to need to go down south. so, that's the right way to push and eventually eradicate hamas here. it's the only way. i do think the positive thing here is you do see the beginnings of who is going to negotiate an eventual solution and qatar and egypt, so diplomatic channels are open and so as days go past, weeks go past here, those are the players you are going to see, they are going to try to eventually end this, but i don't think it ends with hamas out of the gaza strip. >> kevin: healthy amount of skepticism over the next four days, adam? >> i think there is aligned interest here. i think if hamas pulls out they are going to get a lot of international community response. i think it's going to hurt israel the next four days. they are going to do it because we want the hostages back but i think you will see hamas play around psychologically quite a bit. i'm not surprised the list did not come over. they are going to wait, drag, there are bumps, it's psychological warfare and hamas will use every piece of leverage they can, they are a terrorist organization and they are good at rallying international support. and over these next few days, international media is going to push, the community is going to push for them to not resume and they can't not do that. that's what hamas is planning on and why they are doing this in the first place. >> boy, this is a long road ahead indeed, adam boehler, thank you very much for your analysis on this. a quick break. we'll continue with more on this breaking news story after a moment. hi, i'm stacey, and i've lost 60 pounds on golo.
