america, l.l.j. cool j.. and joan shangang -- shanga -- god save the queen, man. >> sandra: a live look now as we begin a brand-new hour at the white house, press secretary karine jean-pierre and the nsc spokesman john kirby are set to take question a short time from now, the oldest president in history, celebrates his 81st birthday. a new batch of bad polling, and on into the holiday week, john. great to start this week with you, i'm sandra smith in new york. >> john: john roberts in washington. when you have 81 candles on the birthday cake, i'm not sure if it's just so hard to blow them out or you know, that could contribute to global warming. either of those things or both could be true. democrats in panic mode as poll after poll shows the issue of biden's age still top of mind for voters, and left leaning media taking notice with headline after headline. biden's donors and fundraisers reported by don't think the campaign has come up with the right response to the age question. >> sandra: so, let's get right to it with peter doocy. reporting live from the white house to kick things off. peter, we are anticipating the briefing should start shortly. how is the president celebrating today? >> like everybody celebrates a big birthday. he pardoned two turkeys, liberty and bell, and never mentioned his big day but did make a joke about his age more generally. >> this is the 76th anniversary of this event. i want you to know, i wasn't there at the first one. i was too young to make it up. >> he's got ground to make up, trailing trump by 2, 44 to 46 in a new nbc poll and worse for him with young voters. biden trails trump for four points with them in the nbc poll. david axelrod who helped get him elected vice president, i think he has a 50/50 shot, no better than that, maybe a little worse. he thinks he can cheat nature and it's risky. a real problem if they are counting on trump to win it for them, i remember hillary doing that, too. democrats are staying put on the sidelines, washington post has a story about losing next year's election, and the president is the party nominee, mcclain said, and strong nominee there, is no back-up plan. the audience rumbled with disbelief, grumbling about the lack of a plan b. but some democrats later approached klain to thank him for his forceful defense of biden, and when you look around the white house here, there's no real sense that it is the president's birthday. we know it is because we have wikipedia, but no big card, no big candles, nobody has sang the song, they are just going about their business here. sandra. >> sandra: i guess we will see if any of that changes when the briefing starts a short time from now. peter doocy live on the president's birthday and turkey pardon day from the white house. peter, thank you. >> yep. >> john: a lot more on this coming up in the hour and 57 minutes ahead. including debbie dingle, congresswoman from michigan, as polls show the president is strumming, mollie hemingway, and chris bedford and nikki haley will be joining us on new calls to ban tiktok after the bin laden letter got circulated and a whole lot more. >> sandra: that's a monday. >> mr. president, is the hostage deal near? >> i believe so, i'm not prepared to talk -- >> you believe so? >> yes. >> thank you. >> john: president biden saying he believes a hostage deal between israel and hamas is near. his comments come as israeli troops target another hospital in northern gaza suspected of shielding hamas terrorists and released new video, take a look at this, as an animal apparently equipped with a camera goes through this hamas tunnel that is underneath al-shifa hospital. fox team coverage, retired lieutenant general keith kellogg standing by, plus our team of reporters across the globe on the war in the middle east. trey yingst is live in southern israel, and you have the latest on the evacuation of some of the patients from the hospitals in question. how does that stand at this point? >> yeah, john, exactly, good afternoon. i want to start with good news amid this horrific story. 31 babies treated at gaza's al-shifa hospital were evacuated to southern gaza over the weekend, 28 of them made it into egypt today where they will receive more medical treatment. all coordinated by the united nations and the palestinian red crescent, and expect more patients evacuated with shifa hospital today. as the israeli military is operating in and around gaza city, new information indicate thank two foreign hosts were taken into shifa hospital in the early hours of the massacre, the men flanked by hamas gunmen, we are not showing the video out of respect for the families but revelation raising new questions what international organizations that operate in the hospital knew about the hostages. and israeli military, along with a security agency released a new video of the tunnel system they say is beneath the facility. it's 30 feet deep with a staircase. it connects to 160 foot tunnel that ends with a door. israelis expect to find more as they dig around the area. as the idf pushes, new concerns about iran and proxies claiming an unstable escalation ladder. houthi rebels hijacked a ship in the red sea. no israeli citizens on board and travelling from turkey to india when it was intercepted. developments this weekend, it does come as the northern front is extremely active with dozens of rockets fired by hezbollah into northern israel. john. >> john: and point out, trey, that last week at the state department briefing a correspondent was asking matt miller a question about the premature infants at al-shifa hospital and remarked they are probably all dead by now, which clearly, based on the evacuation, is not the case. >> yeah, it's irresponsible reporting. the reality is there are incredibly challenging times for the palestinian people inside gaza and the israeli ares giving them limited aid and posing questions to the israeli military and government, giving food and water to the people, but often they need anesthesia and drugs, but the babies are very much alive. some of them passed away amid the ongoing fighting that was taking place in gaza city, a tragic update to this story. but the bottom line here, 31 made it to safety and 28 are in egypt at this hour receiving new treatment. john. >> john: trey yingst, as always, thank you. sandra. >> sandra: the "washington post" is reporting pentagon officials are growing more and more frustrated by the response to the dozens of attacks on american troops that continue to happen over the past month. one defense official quoted as saying the retaliatory airstrikes are clearly not working. retired lieutenant general keith kellogg, fox news contributor. clearly they are not working. >> yeah, sandra, that's an understatement. 61 attacks, three responses, not very proportional at the time and look at what's happening, and not because of lack of capability or capacity. we have massive capacity and capability. you are looking at risk avoidance instead of risk action and people will be asking the question why is this happening, and i think you have to go back to the commander in chief and the enabler, vice president, secretary of state, secretary of defense, national security adviser and they want to avoid basically going up the escalation ladder and they shouldn't, and what they should do is figure a way to respond to it. hit their drone factories in iran. they are not making them in gaza. they are making them in iran and passing them to them. come up with a proportionate response and the reason i'm saying that, if the next attack kills an american, then you have crossed a threshold and they are not prepared to respond to that and they need to, and the american people will have a lot of doubts and questions about the president as commander in chief if he does not respond. we are basically marking time. it's just a matter of time until an american is killed. >> sandra: a question that continues to be asked, whether it's the white house, state department, are we waiting for an american troop to be killed before we respond to this. all of this is happening, meanwhile, as headline after headline reveals iran's nuclear enrichment is advancing, a.p. agency say iran as increased uranium stockpile, and mark esper weighed in on the biden administration and the flawed iran policy. listen. >> they believe that if they do more it will escalate. my argument is just the opposite. if they don't do more it will escalate because iran, pulling the strings with regard to all the proxies and militias, believes we are not resolute enough. >> sandra: the flags are everywhere. what is it going to take for this administration to up its response? >> yeah sandra, that train has left the station. i think they are heading for a nuclear breakout and the stablization, up to 90% enrichment, they are going to have a problem, the problem they are going to have is how do you make it with a weapon and put it on a missile and re-entry vehicle. the fact is, it's going to send seismic shocks throughout the region when they do a nuclear breakout and i think it's a matter of time. >> sandra: general, i want to get this in here, the president of israel, isaac herzog joined me a couple hours ago the fight with hamas, clearly he stated a battle between good and evil. >> if israel weren't there, then europe would be next and the united states for sure next because they call united states the big satan. does any american citizen have a missile in his bedroom, living room, or garden? does any american or decent person in the world take children after chopping their parents and take them into this cellar somewhere and tortures them? this is what we are going through. this is a battle between evil and good, period. >> sandra: as he provided to us a picture of hamas terrorists using children as shields, running through the street, holding up children as shields. i'll ask you, general, finally, where is this going next? what is the next phase of this war? >> it's a great question, sandra. i have a mortal certitude and my moral certitude, in 1945 we said never again. hamas is a terrorist organization, it wants to eliminate industrial and the jews in industrial. what they must do, and listen to gallant, they must eradicate hamas, not only the fighters but the suits in qatar as well. tot total eradication, and not the palestinian authority. come up with a new set of governance in gaza. it's an eradication campaign and it needs to be done. >> john: far left anti-israel non-profit involved in recent protests now under investigation by republican lawmakers. are they tied to the ccp and being funded by foreign nationals? that story coming up. >> sandra: one of the most popular social media backlash after osama bin laden's decades' old letter went viral and gained sympathy from hundreds of users. will tiktok face any consequences? we will ask wisconsin republican congressman mike gallagher next. >> how upsetting this is to the 9/11 community. they are misinformed and uneducated and ignorant on the subject. is made for people like sam, who make- everyday products, designed smarter. like a smart coffee grinder, that orders fresh beans for you. oh, genius! for more breakthroughs like that- i need a breakthrough card. like ours! with 2.5% cash back on purchases of $5,000 or more. plus unlimited 2% cash back on all other purchases. and with greater spending potential, sam can keep making smart ideas- a brilliant reality! the ink business premier card from chase for business. make more of what's yours. luis fonsi: st. jude shares the breakthroughs and makes with doctors and researchers worldwide so more kids with cancer everywhere can grow up to be whatever they want to be. tina was a star at her quinceanera. jordan is a high school track star. haley became a physician assistant and an astronaut. marlo thomas: give thanks for the healthy kids in your life and give a gift that could last a lifetime. liberty mutual customized my car insurance and i saved hundreds. with the money i saved, i started a dog walking business. i was a bit nervous at first but then i figured it's just walking, right? i recall back not long ago to congress seemed to have tiktok on the ropes, the ceo had the stuffing beaten out of him in a hearing and then the whole idea kind of went away. >> it is realistic. there's no question we lost momentum as a combination of a few factors. one, tiktok launched a massive multi-million dollar lobbying campaign, the likes of which i've never seen in my time in congress. in the republicans debates they have been running ads, saying tiktok is all about small business and apple pie and america and all that, put some people on their heels in the swamp. the other thing is other efforts to ban it from the senate were drawn a bit too broadly. a concern this would amount to a grant of authority to the executive branch. now we are close to a targeted bill that would allow for 1 of 2 outcomes. outright ban, the gold standard, or a for sale to an american company which would have control of the algorithm, which would satisfy my national security concerns and the fact that the chinese communist party has thus far proven unwilling to allow such a sale tells you everything you need to know about this app being potentially a propaganda instrument or weapon for the ccp, instrument to be used for what xi jinping calls the smokeless battlefield of information warfare. >> john: just on the subject of the bin laden letter, we spoke with bret eagleson, whose father was killed on september 11th. >> the tiktokers saying inflammatory remarks, you should all know that hamas and al-qaeda and people that you are supporting and giving credibility to would not hesitate one second to kill you or kidnap you and your family and hold you ransom simply based on the color of your skin or your gender identity. >> john: what would you say, congressman, to these young people on tiktok, so-called creators, some people might call them attention seekers, who took a look and said oh, my gosh, you've got to read this, such a revelation, changed my life. >> i hate to be crude but anyone that reads the letter to america and thinks it's revelation and something to be admired is a complete idiot. america is a slave to the evil jews, israel must be destroyed and by extension, america must be destroyed. if you believe those things, you are almost unredeemable, that's crazy. and to amplify the rhetoric is very, very dangerous. it could result in violence, we have seen an explosion of antisemitism here in america and other sophisticated western societies. it's very, very dangerous. and while social media in general is a cesspool, i would grant that, tiktok is unique, its owned by a chinese company given the ccp desire to divide america against america, to amplify the narrative that evil is an evil racist place, it would be national self-suicide to allow the platform in america to be controlled or influenced by the communist party in china. >> john: a pew survey has found that one-third of adults under the age of 30 regularly get their news from tiktok. 2023, 32%. in 2020, only 9%. so, more than three times the number of people who got their news from tiktok in 2020 are now getting it. what does that say that this is the predominant source of information for this group of young people who will become america's future leaders? >> well, i think it should hammer home the point that the concern is primarily about the propaganda power, not just the data, right. tiktok's ability to access your data, track your screen activity, your location, that's a problem. but the primary problem is to be used as a source of news and propaganda, and further undermines tiktok's claims that this is just about entertainment, not politics. those claims are untenable. because almost half of americans use tiktok, a third of user get their news from it. american teens say they are on the platform constantly, so significant beyond short, playful dance videos. >> john: statistics show people spend 90 minutes a day on tiktok. times that by the number of users by the number of days in a month, it's a huge amount of consumption from that one platform. congressman, good to catch up with you. thank you. we'll continue to follow the push for a ban on tiktok. appreciate it. >> sandra: a few minutes from now the white house press briefing will be underway, happening on president biden's 81st birthday. some aides think it will stop him from re-election. we'll take you there live. >> lined up and hit this thing, and came back out of this way with cigarettes on stuff on their hands. >> john: new crime trend in the united states, crash and grab robberies now surging on the west coast. we will ask leo terrell whether lenient crime laws may be enabling this new trend. sleep more deeply. and wake up rejuvenated. purple mattresses exclusive gel flex grid draws away heat relieves pressure and instantly adapts. sleep better. live purple. right now save up to $900 off mattress sets during purple's black friday sale. visit purple.com or a store near you today. when moderate to severe ulcerative colitis takes you off course. put it in check with rinvoq, a once-daily pill. when i wanted to see results fast, rinvoq delivered rapid symptom relief and helped leave bathroom urgency behind. check. when uc tried to slow me down... i got lasting, steroid-free remission with rinvoq. check. and when uc caused damage rinvoq came through by visibly repairing my colon lining. check. rapid symptom relief... lasting steroid-free remission... ...and the chance to visibly repair the colon lining. check, check, and check. rinvoq can lower your ability to fight infections, including tb. serious infections and blood clots, some fatal; cancers, including lymphoma and skin cancer; death, heart attack, stroke, and tears in the stomach or intestines occurred. people 50 and older with at least 1 heart disease risk factor have higher risks. don't take if allergic to rinvoq as serious reactions can occur. tell your doctor if you are or may become pregnant. put uc in check and keep it there with rinvoq. ask your gastroenterologist about rinvoq and learn how abbvie can help you save. i'm jonathan lawson here to tell you about life insurance through the colonial penn program. if you're age 50 to 85, and looking to buy life insurance on a fixed budget, remember the three ps. what are the three ps? >> yeah, john, we are seeing that across the board, both small and big retailers making that investment because they are trying to deter crime. specifically shoplifting which continues to be an issue seen at unprecedented levels. so when you take a look at shoplifting, retail theft and violence, we are seeing it hit the industry hard. $112 billion in losses last year alone and the thing is it's continuing on a concerning path. according to new analysis, reports of shoplifting are 16% higher since 2019. and many breakouts are in cities, new york and los angeles, the biggest growth in shoplifting from mid year 2019 to mid year 2030, 64% and 61% increase. not just unsettling for the shoppers, but impact on the price as well. >> see a breakdown social norms. signals something far scarier than stolen stuff. hurts employees, communities lose jobs, and ready access to things they need and higher prices. >> john, we are seeing this big and small, but much harder for the mom and pop shops to deal with it. obviously the bigger retailers have more inventory, more locations. when a small shop is hit, a big impact there. it's just the start of the shopping season but top of mind for the retailers and the consumer. back to you. >> john: thank you. >> sandra: i hear "all i want for christmas" mariah carey. you have probably heard of smash and grab robberies, what about smash and grab. driving into store fronts to get inside and then loot the businesses. leo terrell, i mean i thought we hit bottom already. how bad is this going to get? >> we have not bottomed out at all yet, sandra, here is the problem, expanding crime activity, expanding shoplifting. just don't want to walk into the store, they are using vehicles to destroy stores in order to steal. this is a problem where basically law enforcement have been told to stand down and making businesses absorb crime. businesses have to incorporate crime as an operating expense because they are not getting help from law enforcement. that stat that will show is occurring in big time cities like l.a. and new york. why? >> i can't speak specifically to the red cross access. hamas has control over where they are and how they are. so it could be an issue of hamas holding that kind of access up. i can tell you we are doing the best we can with the information that we have to keep the families informed, american families informed. there are not that mean of them. we know who they are and doing the best we can to keep them informed, including keeping them informed on the process of trying to secure release but it's -- i'm not going to -- you know, i'm not going to lie here, there is information, it has been difficult to get any great detail on every single hostage where they are, how they are, you know, and move that process forward in terms of informing the families. we'll do what we can, we are informing them to the maximum degree we can. they have a right to know everything that we know. and we'll just keep doing it on our own as best we can. >> thanks, john. has the president had additional calls with world leaders today? >> not that i'm tracking today. >> the last call that they had. >> can you give us a sense of the level of trust right now, and i know you can't speak to specifics but in the negotiations, how much trust is there in those conversations over the hostage deal? >> it's a negotiation. and it's over human lives. you do the best you can going back and forth with the arrangements, which we are doing right now. and at some point, when you come down to executing, you know, when you hit go, then you are counting on everybody to meet their commitments and that's what we are doing. >> admiral, over the weekend president biden in his op-ed said the u.s. is preparing to issue visa bans against israeli extremists attacking civilians on the west bank. what effect would that have? >> well, that would -- if you were to impose a visa ban, prevent the individual from travelling to the you state. >> any timeline when that might be instituted? >> i don't have a timeline nor a final decision. >> is the biden administration upset by how this is playing out on the west bank, what the extremists are doing. >> of course we are, of course we are. the president has spoken about this many, many times, what's happening with the settler violence is reprehensible and we would not have talked about the potential visa bans, if it wasn't just another clear statement of deep concern over this. >> what other sanctions are being considered? >> i don't have anything else. >> thanks so much. there's been fighting over the last few days and hours around the indonesian hospital in gaza. can you speak to whether or not u.s. intelligence suggests that is a hub for hamas activity and what the feeling is about reports of shelling in or near the hospital? >> hospitals should not be the scenes of firefight, we have been very clear about that. you have patients in there, medical staff, people whose lives are at risk and innocent victims of this. they shouldn't be put at more risk than they already are, held up in a hospital, or holed up in a hospital because of health issues and can't move. i don't have any specific intelligence about the degree to which hamas is or is not using that particular hospital, nothing to share today. >> john, curious, you mentioned hamas still trying to carry out the terrorist attack abroad. this thanksgiving week, any elevated risk of terror attacks here at home and does the white house or nsc doing anything specific because the holiday week, are you staffing up in a difference because of the terror threat? >> we are not tracking any specific credible threat here at home over the holiday. that said, i think you can understand we are going to be vigilant as we have been since the conflict began and to the best we can identify domestic threats and disrupt them before they can take place. we are watching this very, closely for spill-over, both against the jewish community and muslim community, but no specific threat. >> indonesian hospital, my colleague spoke with the administrator who said president biden needs to do more to protect hospitals in gaza, because "he's the only one netanyahu will listen to." could you comment on that, and is the u.s. concerned that israel is seen as attacking one gaza hospital after another and areas now in the south? >> the president in every conversation he has with prime minister netanyahu, not just him, jen psaki austin, jake sullivan, every instance continues to urge israelis to be as cautious and deliberate and careful to conduct operations against hamas, they have a right and responsibility to do, to go after hamas and right and responsibility and added burden because of the way hamas fights to do everything they can to look after civilian casualties. it is a part of every discussion we are having with our israeli counterparts. the second question was. >> second question, is the united states at all concerned that israel is seen attacking hospital after hospital. >> as i said, i think in my previous answer, we don't want to see hospitals as battle grounds. we don't want to see firefights in hospitals. now, as we have also said, at least when it comes to al-shifa, i don't have intelligence on the indonesia hospital, but we have intelligence that hamas was using as a command and control. puts an added burden on israel as they conduct operations around hospitals to be more discriminate and careful, you have real live doctors, patients, nurses, and the other hand, a threat, a group seems this to think it's ok to bury themselves in the basement of the hospital for operations. and provides a legitimate threat to the security of the israeli people. it's about striking that balance. >> john, the white house condemned elon musk in pretty strong terms last week after he once again said something that was considered antisemitic, he called the comments abhorrant. this government is reliant on elon musk, spacex technology, starlink technology. have there been any efforts made to wean the government off of his technology or find some kind of replacement for it? >> i'm not aware of any efforts to do that, nancy, but we have been very clear about the rhetoric and how inappropriate it is and call it out when we see it. >> is the president concerned the president and nasa are reliant on someone who holds these views and more routinely embrace con conspiracy theories. >> we rely on a lot of the defense industry, a lot of the private sector to help us with our innovation, to help us with research and development on new systems, and to help us in the realm of space and cyberspace. there's a really benefit to private-public partnership when it comes to those kinds of national security threats and challenges. there is innovation out there in the private sector we would be foolish to walk away from. i'm not aware of specific efforts to address our concerns over his rhetoric through the way that his companies provide support to our national security establishment, but that doesn't mean that we accept or agree with or condone in any way that antisemitic rhetoric that he pushed. >> does the u.s. have any assessment of what the israeli military is describing as cctv footage of hamas bringing through hostages through al-shifa hospital on october 7th? >> i don't. >> on the hostages, if women and children end up being released first, which is what it sounds like the situation is probably heading towards, does the u.s. have any sense of how many in that mix might be american citizens? >> i don't want to get ahead of where we are, m.j., and i mean, i know everybody is interested in the numbers and who they are going to be. we are working that through literally in realtime with both sides, so i think it's better if i just don't speculate what that pool will look like. we are laser focused on the american citizens we know are held hostage and we want all of them out, everybody should be out now, but here we are in a negotiation and we are getting closer to the end, we believe, of that negotiation, so i'm going to be careful. >> any of the potential american hostages, is there confidence that they are alive? i know you addressed the lack of proof of life videos in the past. >> we have no indication otherwise. >> thanks, john. there is media reports over the weekend that u.s. pressure resulted in the palestinian authority taking down a tweet that it accused israeli helicopters of most of the deaths at the music festival. can you elaborate on that? >> no, i don't know, what would you want me to say. >> can you confirm, any indication about what kind of communications there were between the u.s. and the palestinian authority about that messaging? >> i'm not aware of any specific messaging between us and the p.a. on that. obviously it's simply not true. it was hamas paragliding into a music festival. there was no israeli participation in that at all. >> and elaborate on the president's remarks in the op-ed about the revitalized palestinian authority, what would that look like, new leadership, different structure, talk about that a little more. >> what it looks like will depend on the palestinian people. what he's referring to, the palestinian authority that has the credibility, has the legitimacy, has the authority, has the support of all palestinians, so that they can effectively help with post conflict governance, particularly in gaza. what it actually looks like is really, and should be up to palestinians. >> a couple more in the back. >> hi, john, happy thanksgiving. president biden stood by calling president xi a dictator at the apec press conference. china's foreign ministry condemned this as extremely incorrect and irresponsible political manipulation. what is the administration's response or reaction to this? >> came away from san francisco with some concrete deliverables, on fentanyl, military to
