>> neil: okay. this was different. the scene today on san francisco's bay bridge. pro palestinian protesters shutting down the bridge and some throwing their car keys in the water. more than 50 arrested. the bigger news coming from gaza in a deal that could be imminent on a the release of 50 hostages. coming up, we'll take to israel's minister on what he makes of this. welcome, everybody. i'm neil cavuto. i want to go to jeff paul in southern israel with the very latest on all of this. jeff? >> yeah, neil, we're just learning the body of one of the people that was abducted by hamas back on october 7 has been just discovered by israel forces. the idf confirming that a 65-year-old was found in a structure near the shifa hospital. that is the location or close to the location where israeli forces for a second day are searching in an around the vast hospital complex. commands doughs are entering each of the hospital's buildings going floor to floor through the lens of the idf. we've seen images of guns and other military equipment that they were found in the hospital. they also just said they found a tunnel just outside the hospital complex. israeli forces say that alone is evidence that hamas was operating within the shifa hospital. hamas calls ate weak story that is not true. the hospital staff says every minute israeli forces put the hospital under occupation, the chances of more patients dying only increases. israeli defense minister says that they remain focused on rooting out hamas from northern gaza in a precise manner. >> the more we dip in this operation, increase the pressure on hamas and erode more headquarters, damage more tunnels, eliminate more operatives and bring down more heads of organization, the greater the chance of returning our hostage. this enemy only understands power. we explain to him what power is. >> according to officials inside gaza, both telephone and internet service is currently down. there's a lack of food, clean water and fuel, which the u.n. says is only deepening the current humanitarian crisis inside gaza. neil? >> neil: they seem to be coalescing around the idea of 50 hostages. there's better than 200 that might still be held captive. i could be wrong. we don't have a solid numbers. what are you hearing whether this is the start of something? >> yeah, these high level talks have been going on since the day this war started. everything is con tin -- contingent of what is happening on the ground. >> neil: thanks, jeff. you and your crew, please be safe. i want to go right now to jonathan hunt in san francisco on this bizarre protest where a lot of the people that are protesting to stop their cars on the bridge and dumb their keys in the water. something like that, jonathan. explain. >> yeah, neil. this wasn't the biggest protest we've seen this week here at the apec summit but it was the most disruptive. completely shutting down the bay bridge, which is the most travel computer bridge in the san francisco area. what happened was a group of protesters drove about a dozen vehicles on the bridge at the same time. they then stopped those vehicles and around 50 or so of them got out on the bridge, they staged what they called a die-in. they shut down traffic completely. police had closed 1 lane of the bridge throughout this week to try to prevent protests. but they were caught unaware. this unfolded in minutes and shut the bridge down for hours. the pro palestinian protesters said they wanted to send a loud and clear message to president biden at the other world leaders that are gathered here this week. listen here. >> job is in san francisco talking with world leaders and putting money in to the ongoing genocide. we need to stand up and stop it now. >> now, ultimately around 50 of those protesters were arrested. they have zip tied themselves together in some cases. so it took the police awhile to separate them. they were all put on to buses and taken off the bridge. the police then, neil, had to get rid -- had to toe the vehicles off the bridge. in some cases, they couldn't move them quickly because those protesters had thrown their keys in to the bay here behind me. so it was shut down in total, the bridge in one direction, for about four hours. one bigger points on this, neil, i think it's instructive of the challenges facing president biden and his re-election campaign next year. these protesters, these pro palestinian protesters are not right wingers by any means. they're mainly democratic voters. they would lean toward the progressive part of the party. but they are very, very angry with the way president biden is supporting israel in its war against hamas. and president biden, as we have seen in the polls can ill afford to lose any votes. the progressive wing of the party clearly very angry about the administration's stance on the israel-hamas war, neil. >> neil: wild stuff. this wins the award for the most unusual protest. thanks, jonathan. i want to go to the israeli minister -- the former major of jerusalem. good to have you. i want your take on this imminent hostage deal, maybe 50 released. can you tell us about what you know? >> well, neil, it's very simple. eveventually we need total surrender of hamas. we have to wipe them off the face of the earth. until we to that, the war won't stop. we're also asking, where is the red cross? where are the 239 people that were abducted from israel that are not kidnapped? unfortunately today, not long ago, we found a body of one of the hostages. we had to bring her home. not alive. and we're asking where are the rest of the hostages? >> neil: let me ask you, minister, some people are wondering how many of the 239 are alive. that's why you might only be getting 50 now. what do you think? >> neil, you saw the atrocities. you saw how they burned people alive. how they rape women and cooked a baby. we saw the atrocities. they were proud of it. this is totally crazy. they're monsters. we don't know what they're doing with the hostages. they don't see then as hostages. that i see them as something. not as human beings. this is so shameful. the world has to ask very aggressive and hard questions. we want them all. we want them all back. and, you know, we will to whatever needs to bring our people back. it is totally absurd the situation. we need the help of the world and the united states. we thank president biden for his amazing support. we will never forget our friends. you folks have stood behind us at the toughest times israel ever had since its existence. we will never forget that. >> neil: you know, there are divisions in this country that might surprise you, minister. we talked about it before. some are pushing and pulling at the president, you got to be careful. israel has to stop these air strikes in gaza. they have to have a cease fire. you hear it all the time and you hear it not only from members of the arab community but western nations as well. does that trouble you? you only had a few days of support after the october 7 attack. then the world sentiment, not everyone, i want to stress, minister, but began to turn to these pro palestinian rallies. some bold enough to say we're pro hamas rallies. what do you make of that? >> the atrocities are worse than the nazis. the nazis hid the atrocitatroci. hamas didn't even hide it. they're proud of it. remember -- i don't remember in the war to -- against germany, i don't remember anybody asking for any kind of humanitarian gestures. just complete 100% surrender. this is what will happen to hamas. we in israel, we have a soft heart for people. we don't want to hit any innocent people. we hide our people in shelters. they don't. they're using our people as human shields. we have to go through this and make sure that we don't hurt innocent people and we enable them to flow back to safety on the southern part of gaza when we attack the north part. we don't need the world to tell us. we will be as considerate as possible. however, we will wipe hamas off of the face of the earth. no compromise. you know, this is not just for israel. there's a reason why the arab states, the moderate arab states are waiting for us to beat hamas. there's a reason. the world understands that if the islamic jihad is successful in this horrendous attack and they get away with it, it will happen all over the world. that's why we have to win. have total surrender. we need to help of the world. give us the time we need. we're consider writ, we don't want to hurt innocent people. we have to wipe hamas off the face of the earth. >> neil: we'll keep following this hostage release. obviously a lot of moving parts at the same time, minister. thanks for taking the time to chat with us. >> thank you. >> neil: we have mother coming up. you heard from senator markwayne mullen coming up. he had the dust-up with the teamsters. fair and balanced, we'll hear from the teamster's president up then. >> stand your butt up. >> you stand your butt up. >> hold on, sit down. like indulgent memory foam, and ultra-conforming innersprings, for a beautiful mattress and indescribable comfort. for a limited time, save up to $800 on select stearns & foster adjustable mattress sets. las vegas grand prix choose t-mobile for business for 5g solutions. because t-mobile is helping power operations and experiences for hundreds of thousands of fans with reliable 5g connectivity. now's the time to accelerate your business. switch to shopify so you can build it better, scale it faster and sell more. much more. take your business to the next stage when you switch to shopify. 18 years from tonight, grant gill will become a legend. when he totally kills it at his improv class's graduation performance. knees will be slapped. suds will be sprayed. people won't know what hurts more: their cheeks, or their sides. that's why he's already keeping himself in-shape and razor sharp today with health tips and wellness tools from aarp. to help make sure his health lives as long as he does. because the younger you are, the more you need aarp. ♪ ♪ ♪ we're building a better postal service. for more on-time deliveries. and easier, affordable ways to ship. so you can deliver even more holiday joy. the united states postal service. delivering for america. ah mornings! cough? >> the polls that matter right now are iowa, new hampshire and south carolina. >> right. >> in those we see nikki haley rising and donald trump plateauing or dipping and ron desantis flat lining. if we get in a one-on-one competition, nikki haley will beat donald trump. i think one of the polls that is particularly interesting to look at is the recent sienna "new york times" poll. everybody in the trump cam is delighted. shows him winning the battleground states. jason riley ran a piece tuesday that made the observation in that very same poll that if donald trump is convicted of a crime, those same voters from 6 to 8% said they would vote for joe biden. that means donald trump loses all of those states. >> neil: so a conviction changes everything? close to the 100 counts, a conviction has changed. it's not altered things. why would a conviction be a big deal? >> there's a difference between people being accused of something. in america, thank god, you're guilty until you're -- you're innocent until you proven guilty. i may be opposed to donald trump, but i think it's fair to say there's a two tiered system and he's being untreated fairly in many cases. the american voter and superintendent supporters are reabouting to that. i understand that. if there's a conviction, if a trial and a jury of his peers convict him, that changes everything. you have the two federal cases in d.c. that are going to be going forward before the election is over. you have the mar-a-largo document case and you have the january 6th case. >> neil: the georgia case -- >> yeah. i do a lot of rico work. if i were defending that case, i'd be in motion practice for years before that ever got to trial. on the other two, they go to trial in the middle of the election. it is likely he's going to be convicted if one if not both of those. he will be a convicted felon. at that point, the polls will flip. right now everybody is focusing on joe biden's failures. he's a failure. understandably so. if donald trump is the nominee, you're just going to see repetition of the january 6th riots. you may think that donald trump had no role in it? if you're a trump supporter. the american people don't believe that. >> neil: we'll see. let me ask you this. if it comes down to with all of this and next summer he is the run-away republican nominee, despite your support for nikki haley, would you support donald trump? my focus on raising money is primarily been historically u.s. senate candidates. it's critically important that we win back the senate. if donald trump is the nominee, i have no confidence that he will win and we will lose the house. >> neil: that's not what i asked. if it were him and he was the nominee -- >> i will focus my attention on the senate. >> neil: you wouldn't vote for president? >> i will vote for president. >> neil: who? >> i will vote for president. i will focus on republicans winning back the senate. >> neil: donald trump will be that nominee. you said you would focus on the president. so that means you'll write in somebody. >> we're not at election day yet. i'm focused -- at that point i'll be focused on electing republican senators because i believe that will be the fire wall between the count rewe know and love and a country we don't recognize. >> neil: are you a lawyer? >> i am an attorney. >> neil: that was a carefully worded answer. >> i do my best. >> neil: the only they are problem is that you're a mets fan. >> you know, i love the mets. steve cohen, go get the japanese pitcher. we need the help. >> neil: thanks, eric. very good seeing you. a former tim scott donor now backing nikki haley. as he pointed out, anybody can happen. usually does. stay with us. -had enough? >> joe manchin deserves the most serious consideration if we get to that point. we don't want to just do this for the sake of doing it, if we offer our ballots to a third party unity bipartisan ticket. we want to feel we have a chance to win and also that we are not going to be spoilers for one candidate or the other. if we get to that point, joe manchin deserves the most respectful consideration if he's interested, because he's earned it. >> neil: joe manchin is joe lieberman's guy in that event. daniel joins us. what's the realistic impact of a joe manchin in this race? >> i think the realistic impact is that it helps joe manchin stay relevant because i don't think it's going to happen. you saw in that clip, joe lieberman was saying if we cannot be a spoiler for one-handed or the other, then we won't do it. that is basically impossible to guarantee. there is no beds in life except death and taxes. he really can't say that he be helping one side of the other because a presidential campaign is such a multifaceted thing that anything could happen. it's a way for manchin to stay in the news. he's also said he is scared to death of a trump second term and that would be bad for democracy. i don't think he would actually pull the trigger when all is said and done. >> neil: we are told "no labels" pulls the trigger if it looks like it's going to be a donald trump-joe biden replan that would trigger his entrance. i do not that's true. you consider robert f. kennedy also in the race. this is going to look like italy, so many candidates. in a crowded race, could that change the outcome? >> there have definitely been polls that have showed that biden actually loses support when there's more candidates in the race. and his supporters are less attached to him than donald trump supporters. we saw how 2020, even though biden won by a few million votes nationally, he still only gained -- he still only had an advantage of 44,000 votes across those three swing states that gave him the victory. these things. 2016, jill stein helped donald trump get elected. ralph nader in 2000. one last thing about joe manchin, one of biden's biggest accomplishments with his supporters are so happy about is the inflation reduction act. all that money for climate change spending, that would not of been possible without joe manchin. he basically wrote that act. it's really hard for him to run against biden. >> neil: i apologize. let me ask a little bit about how the race looks now. all bets are off to rehab the republican fund-raiser here with things everything changes if there's a conviction coming for donald trump. do you think that's the case? >> i think eric was pretty smart on this and big donors, they don't want to waste their money. and so you kind of can see the writing on the wall. where it's one thing to say hey, those prosecutors are way over there skis. this is a political prosecution. it's another if you have a jury of your peers saying hey, trump is guilty. that's harder to say hey, these average americans who just signed up for jury duty, they're totally bad. this is not our system of justice. i think that would hurt trump because 91 felony charges, it's just so hard to defeat every single one where they're such a high conviction rate in our system. >> neil: will watch it very closely. daniel lippmann, as they say. my walter cronkite impression. it's apparently not very good. always good seeing you. daniel lippmann. a quick peek at that dow. down day after four up days. stocks racing along on the notion that so far the economy is just about right. we'll see. here's "the five."
