♪ >> "the big weekend show" begins with the fox news alert. i'm guy benson with nicole saphier, anita vogel and joey jones. fox news confirming the u.s. troops killed when a black hawk helicopter crash during a training mission in the mediterranean sea on veterans day while they were special operators from the 160th special operations aviation regiment. one of the most elite helicopter pilot groups on earth, this is the u.s. conducts additional airstrikes on iranian proxy groups in their facilities and their personnel in syria that in retaliation for dozens of attacks against u.s. bases and military in the middle east. lucas tomlinson is live in delaware, president biden is spending his weekend there, give us a update on the airstrikes pretty significant development, yes? >> that is right we learned a pair of u.s. air force fighter jets that carried airstrikes in eastern syria targeting a training facility according to lloyd austin. it we received reporting from jennifer griffin who said the training facility is a headquarter in the strikes killed six or seven iranian proxy fighters in the safe house was really a headquarter killing the fighters in the training facility stored with a bunch of weapons and secondary explosives in an official told jennifer griffin this strike will hurt but let's go to the tragedy in the mediterranean that you mentioned before it was a black hawk helicopter from the 160 special operations aviation regiment the helicopter was carrying out fuel to what you see here, the 160th known as the night stalkers this helicopter crashed off the cyprus killing all five service members award. we have file footage showing the daytime evolution that this is very complex flying operation, 160th does most of the work at night and more dangerous mission as you can see here. imagine doing this what you're seeing right now at night much more complicated. 160 operation forces are in the region as part of the buildup of u.s. forces, the 160th will be called upon to rescue or evacuate americans in the middle east if ordered they flash on the dangerous missions of the world 160 flu members six to kill osama bin laden in the delta force to kill al-baghdadi in syria a few years ago under the trump administration. the white house released a statement from president biden about the crashing jill and i mourn the loss of five american service members who died on the aircraft in the mediterranean sea during a retraining training mission the service members put their lives on the line for their country everyday, they willingly take risk to keep the american people safe and secure. as you mentioned the strike was in response to the dozens of strikes against u.s. forces in the middle east by the iranian backed proxies there was 50 in the last month and there's about 22500 american troops stationed in 900 neighboring syria and 55 of the soldiers have been hurt in recent tax and once again airstrikes today targeted training facility in the safe house which might not be considered so safe after 500-pound bombs destroyed it, once again secondary descriptions were seen at the site assuming weapons were being stored there at the training facility in the safe house is most likely a headquarter for the iranian backed proxy. >> lucas obviously that story out of the mediterranean is heartbreaking and very difficult news for americans to receive. on the reprisal attacks from the u.s. that were talking about here in syria, this scene, correct me if i'm wrong and escalation from united states previously they were against warehouses and facilities not personnel but according to jennifer griffin six or seven enemy fighters killed in this one that is a step up. >> it sure is, this is the second airstrike launched against iranian proxy forces since wednesday we are seeing an uptick in the airstrikes and we will see some strikes in yemen remember $32 million american reaper drone was shot down off the coast of yemen a few days ago and we now have the u.s. si and howard aircraft striking off the coast within range of the super hornets on board, certainly when you look at the iranian backed proxy fighters in the middle east, this is the next escalation and defense secretary lloyd austin and secretary blinken the united states will defend its forces, many people were pressuring the white house for the additional strikes because they were not stopping there were six strikes after the last round of airstrikes on wednesday targeting american troops in the region. we'll have to see the next move is on iranian in the proxy and will they continue in iraq some of the american forces stationed in the middle east. >> i kinda scoffed at the idea that the reaching training mission considering the unit is only there because of this were. i understand with your sources and operational security there is only so much you can go into but seeing the training take place is at an indication of the planning expectation and other words does it show an expectation of needing the unit to do that type of mission. >> i as you've known forces in the marines say there's nothing about these evolutions they train like it is a dangerous evolution. anytime night vision goggles or flying helicopters doing a moderna refueling, you see the rotors there on the screen in the refueling probe there's not a lot of leeway any turbulence an accident mistake you can get catastrophic very quickly and that appears as the case, these forces are there because of they need to evacuate or rescue americans, they will be called upon to carry out a very dangerous mission. >> lucas tomlinson and delaware, thank you very much for that report. obviously let's start with the crash we knew about in a few more details. it is devastating and i gut punch the families who got the knock or the phone call is an unimaginable. joey: i probably don't need to ask lucas to say it because the job he needs to hold but the political side but the analytical side why is that unit in the mediterranean, why would they be practicing troop movement at night, why would they do something so dangerous i spoke to a friend who is a bulk refueling are the best trained of the trains of the pilots on how to refuel and they said here's the deal, as it is is very dangerous or this is something you do all the time. , this is very dangerous and we do routinely. for them to conduct the type of training and the environment i believe 100%. the soldiers died because of this work, they're a casualty of this war and throwing the routine training on top of it diminishes it in a way that is politics. >> to joey's point is absolutely right to enter 40 hostages who are being held there you heard benjamin netanyahu say now that they start the ground invasion, perhaps they are closer to conversations about the release of some of the hostages. i think it's absolutely likely that the u.s. is very close to getting involved in not only taking out americans that are still there but the hostages. it seems that were very close to something that any american life lost is a complete tragedy. if you look at the united states intolerance of people tearing down the united states flags in the uprising that are occurring in the united states. where do we stand as a nation you 31 americans killed in the hamas attack on october 7. we are not taking as strong as a community and we need to make sure from the united states perspective in the military perspective we will do everything to avenge the deaths of the americans get every hostage out of their. >> picking up on what doctor saphier is saying of what regimen yet yahoo said he is really hinting that there could be a deal on the table and exactly because of the success or the progress of the ground invasion into gaza. he said that is creating a lot of pressure under pressure and the israelis know a lot more they're not revealing at this point. think about getting the hostages out. there hostages from all over the world, americans and people from all over the world and that would be a piece of good news in all in light of these calls have a cease-fire that we talked about yesterday from the president of france and here is benjamin netanyahu say were making progress here and we may have a deal on the table for the hostages. >> here's what prime minister said earlier. >> we were close at all until we started the ground operation. we heard there's an impending deal of this kind were that kind and then we learned it was all hokum. but the minute we started the ground operation things began to change. i think the less i said the more i increase the chances that it materializes. >> he's taking some credit if there is a deal to be had with the hostages and the status of the hostages we know nothing about occasional videos here or there but that is it. hopefully they are alive and well and something could come of this. nothing would've happened without the ground invasion there's probably some credibility. just to come back in the final thought. i'm reflecting what you said in your question in your initial response. 6 - 7 enemy fighters from iran killed for the latest strike in the escalation. the fact that people are over there in the escalation, trey yingst has been talking about hezbollah open up another flight at some point. not to be alarmist were getting closer to this getting broader. guy: 31 americans killed on october 7 in the attack from what i understand. there are nine americans mis missing, presumed to be hostages. were not putting ourselves in the site we are in the site are people are held in gaza and they deserve the american military as efforts to rescue them. i have said from the beginning, two missions at once, one is getting hostages out of hamas' hold and the other is israel's mission basically taking gaza and wiping hamas out of it, we have a mission whether we acknowledge it or the
