[gunfire] >> we are not at a point right now where we would support a general ceasefire. >> why did you strike iran's revolutionary guard? >> because they struck us. >> sandra: we are waiting an update from the pentagon any moment now after america strikes back against iranian proxies a second time in two weeks. all this this time, targeting a weapons warehouse being used by militants in syria. backed by the number one state sponsor of terror. it is all developing at this hour. welcome, everyone, i'm sandra smith in new york. hi, john. >> john: going to be another busy one. i'm john roberts in washington and this is "america reports". the pentagon says retaliatory strikes are in response to iranian backed houthi forces downing a drone, worth $32 million flying in international air space. >> sandra: lloyd austin says the u.s. is not backing down and will continue to defend itself, its personnel its interest in the middle. launched 46, new number, 46 attacks against u.s. troops in just three weeks. >> john: fox team coverage on the breaking news from the war in the middle east coming up over the next two hours. we begin with jennifer griffin live from the pentagon with all this. >> we can report iranian-backed proxies have carried out additional four attacks against u.s. bases in iraq and syria since the u.s. airstrikes on the iranian warehouse in syria last night. it's clear iran and proxies are not getting the message or being deterred. u.s. forces just shot down a drone heading toward u.s. troops near erbil, iraq. they carried out an attack after the downing, and a pair of fighter jets bombed a weapons storage facility in eastern syria where iran's revolutionary guard corps stored some of the weapons that are used to constantly target u.s. troops and bases. a defense official briefed reporters, by specifically targeting the facilities, we seek to convey a clear message to iran we hold it accountable for the attacks on u.s. forces and we expect iran to take measures to direct its proxies to stop. a senior u.s. military official added they are taking shots at what they believe to be large numbers of u.s. personnel with the intent of killing them. they could not rule out iranians were at the targeted warehouse or some militants may have been killed. officials said they had ramped up the defense of the basis, sending missiles to iraq and syria after 46 u.s. service members were killed with concussions and two cases of traumatic brain injury after initial strikes in mid october. u.s. is attempting to recover the remnants of drone shut down over the red sea by the houthis, who released this footage. the u.s. has not responded yet to the downing of one of the prized drones. there have been now 46 attacks against u.s. bases since mid october, including those four attacks overnight. we will have an on-camera briefing at the pentagon in the next hour. back to you. >> john: looking forward to that, jen griffin, with the latest from the pentagon for us. the white house says the israel has agreed to daily four-hour humanitarian pauses in gaza, each with a three-hour advance warning. allow civilians to escape fighting. meantime, israeli military continues to pummel hamas in gaza city. mike tobin, do you expect or is it expected by the israeli government that any time there's one of these pauses, hamas will take advantage of it? >> it's certainly a risk and we have seen that through the humanitarian corridors that open every day. let me start with talking about a development in israel, another two hostages have appeared on video making statements denouncing the actions of their government. idf calls it psychological terrorism of the worst kind. it comes with the promise for their release. these two individuals are held by islamic jihad, not by hamas, and a number of conditions have to be met for their release so they are not out yet and the situation is fluid. as it relates to the operational pauses in the warfare, and the exodus of palestinians, that is happening and is happening to the tune of tens of thousands. some 50,000 palestinians made the march south yesterday as the road was open as evacuation corridor for four hours. that's a main road from the north to the south, and now they are marching south with a promise of that pause backed by the u.s. government. >> we understand that israel will begin to implement four-hour pauses in areas of northern gaza each day. with announcement to be made three hours beforehand. we have been told by the israelis there will be no military operations in these areas over the duration of the pause. and that this process is starting today. >> israeli forces have driven to the center of gaza, near the al-shifa hospital, at the military quarter of hamas, they found tunnels, maps and weapons storage even in a school room, a separation location, a weapons store in a residential building right next to a little girl's bedroom. also, to the far south of the country, sirens were just sounding for incoming missiles, a surface to surface missile fired from the south. it was taken out by missile defenses earlier today. there was a drone strikes in a lot and it got through the defenses and hit a target on the ground there. the idf is not prepared to say where it took off from. john. >> john: mike tobin for us, a long way from where you are as well, so this is spanning all of israel. >> sandra: back to american forces retaliating against iranian proxies in the middle east, a strike on a weapons store in syria. pete hegseth, the number is 46 now times iranian proxies have attempted to strike u.s. bases in the middle east. so what happened to don't? are we sending a strong enough message to deter these iranian proxies from these attacks? >> clearly not deterring them at all. the key part of jennifer's report, four attacks since we hit a weapons depot, whatever that means, probably not manned, clearly we are tap dancing. if a reaper drone is being shot down by houthi rebels, sophistication of the weapons system that shoots down a drone of that significance, that's real technology this. is something iran has proliferated throughout the region. the administration has shown no ability to deter or create the conditions on the ground that they want. in this case, iran doesn't care and given the track record of the lack of competence, the lack of competence of this pentagon, the most significant thing that needs to happen is israel needs to mind its own back yard, not counting on america to change the dynamic. you heard john kirby, what are we talking about in the white house? pauses? seizing fallujah or isis, and make sure you pause every day for four hours. what do you think hamas wants? they want more time, they want international condemnation of israel, which they can count on from the u.n.. more time to reload and refit. they think they can degrade israel's ability over time. that's what we are talking about, and we are shooting empty warehouses and iran only sees keep going, keep going as hard and fast as we can. they want to make deals with the iranians, not do what trump did, you touch us you die. not, oh, there goes an ammo depot, you touches, you die. >> sandra: from your view, what is the risk of this war not only escalating but expanding in the middle east, and by the way, we often reference your time there when you toured the tunnels there in gaza and just how expansive they are, and how difficult they are going to be in this war for israel to fight when they've got this vast network underground, i believe this is video file footage to the cement nature of these and how complicated this is going to be as it goes on. >> i can't imagine being an infantry man in the front lines in gaza, multiple story buildings on the ground level and behind you someone could pop out of the terror tunnels, you have seen significant casualties among israeli troops. even though they are setting the conditions. hamas has had weeks, months, years to build a terrorist infrastructure to defend and now they are having to go through and clean it out. the only thing our leaders should be saying is eradicate hamas. every death there is the responsibility of hamas terrorists who brought this fight to their neighborhood. and that's why i think from, i come at this from america first, american perspective. this has to be israel's fight to take care of not just hamas, but also iran. iran is an existential threat to israel. now is the moment for israel to do what it needs to do to protect its very existence and it can't count on lloyd austin and joe biden and john kirby to be the ones that have their back. because they have proven to be ineffective in doing so, so i don't want strikes that lead to an escalation because i don't think our pentagon would do well in that particular scenario. so, israel should be given all the tether it needs to do what it needs to do. >> sandra: hamas says it wants a permanent war against israel as the idf ramps up the invasion to gaza city, interesting perspective. it's going to be important to listen to with benjamin netanyahu and we'll be watching for the patriot awards, can't wait for that. look forward to it every year. >> thursday next week. >> sandra: thank you for joining us. ok. >> someone has a gun? >> john: vile protests after a screening of a film that shows unedited footage of hamas's attack against israel on october 7th. what led to the fighting? aaron cohen was there, we will ask him how it all went down. >> sandra: israel claiming 130 of hamas's tunnel shafts have been destroyed. but more work remains. israeli -- the israeli journalists covering this is going to be joining us next, why he says people cannot even imagine the scale of the terror group's tunnel system. >> there's no chance hamas will be fair about anything, they are barbarians, liars, terrorists. i was 5...6 years of age and i knew i was going to be a vet. once alexandra called me to let me know that bank of america had approved my loan... it was important to me. we not only just provide the financing piece, we do everything that we can to surround them with the right people. all you need is a perfect, amazing team that will guide you through the right steps to be successful. and that's what bank of america was for me. i'm sarah escherich, i'm the life enrichment director at independence village, the senior living community in waukee, iowa. everybody here really, really make you feel like family and that they love you. our goal with tiktok was to enrich the lives of our residents and just to be able to show people what senior living can be like. i think i am a tiktok grandma. my kids think i am. i mean, we're the ones that are being entertained. time goes faster when you're having fun. >> well, quite a bit, actually. israeli media watchdog organization is reporting that some of the atrocities committed on october 7th were not only documented by the terrorists themselves, but also captured by gaza-based photo journalists working for some news agencies like the associated press and reuters as well. it raises ethical questions and implies some of the journalists were on the scene of the massacre so fast they might have had a head's up from hamas. honest reporting asks, did the respectable wire services approve of presence inside enemy territory, together with the terrorist infiltrators? they have denied advance knowledge of the attack claiming they got them from freelancer as they do. reuters said they got them from two with whom it did not have a prior relationship. photographs published by reuters were taken two hours hamas fired rockets across southern israel and more than 45 minutes after israel said gunmen had crossed the border. a.p. responded, associated press had no knowledge of the october 7th attacks before they happened. the first pictures a.p. received from any freelancer showed they were taken more than an hour after the attacks began. the agency notes they are no longer working with one gaza freelancer, and honest reporting notes the website ynet has a response from cnn noting the network has cut ties with one freelancer, writing we have not at this time found reason to doubt the accuracy of the work he has done for u we have decided to suspend all ties with him. the national public diplomacy directorate argues they were accomplices in crimes against humanity, actions contrary to professional ethics. >> sandra: molly, thank you. john. >> john: israel's military says troops have destroyed at least 130 hamas tunnel shafts. underground network is believed to stretch more than 300 miles under gaza and used to transport weapons, people and supplies. an israeli journalist has reported on this extensively, he says the tunnels are something that we cannot even imagine. abi is co-creator of netflix thriller "fauda." good to see you again. we caught up with each other when i was there. and the idea of a series of four hour pauses with three hour notification, what do you think of that, will hamas try to take advantage of it? >> i don't know exactly what is doing on the grounds, honestly, the fog that we have about the gaza battlefield is kind of big. i'm sure that you know, in 3 or 4 hours in advance they won't manage to change the face of the battle, the face of the field. so it's not as bad as we thought, like if we would go for three days or four days of a ceasefire, then that might bring them back on their feet or manage to bring them more supply, more rockets, whatever. i think in 3, 4 hours, while the bombing continues, and while the israeli army is really hunting down terrorists in gaza, that is not the thing that's going to make the difference for hamas but will help the local population. >> john: now to the tunnels, we are seeing on the right-hand side of the screen the video of the unit as it seeks out and destroys those tunnels. you have reported extensively on this. a couple of our own journalists have been there as well, including sean hannity. what will the idf be facing as it moves now closer to the center of gaza city in terms of the threat from those tunnels, and seeking out and destroying them? >> so i think that we need to understand this network, this huge network of tunnels that is located underneath the gaza city, it's kind of a city of its own. it's a different complex. it can allow people to survive there for weeks, if not for months, because they have enough water, food, etc., weapons, of course, in order to keep them alive and yes, just like what you see on the screen, part of it is under shifa hospital, not kinds of a secret, even us a few years ago, we showed tunnels are going underneath the shifa hospital. so, every kid in gaza knows it. just imagine to yourself the tunnels are built in floors. not just one tunnel going like that, but a small tunnel, and underneath it a bigger tunnel and underneath it even a bigger tunnel that allows driving in motor bikes, for example. so it's not just kind of a small tunnel that you, john, need to crawl in the dark, no. it's something that allows you not only to walk like you can see now, but there are some bigger tunnels that allow you to go from place to place with motor bikes or bicycles. >> john: we should point out, twice as many miles of tunnels under gaza as there are in the new york subway system. is it possible for the idf doing after that complex under shifa hospital without along with it inviting universal condemnation from the global community for going after a hospital? >> look, john, honestly, we will be facing, you know, global condemnation from all over. it started on october 8th, you know, october 7th was the massacre of 1400 people, and the kidnapping of 240. the day after, the minute that israel started to retaliate, we got the global condemnation but this is a war and with all due respect to all the international pressure that is put on israel right now we need to win this war and we will probably need to take care of the tunnel system underneath gaza. we are already doing that in the northern part of the gaza strip. we are doing that all around shifa hospital, and maybe at some point we will get to shifa hospital itself. but the fact is that we need to understand that billions of dollars that instead of going to civil infrastructure in gaza to water supply, to electricity, to work for employment, you know, to people to go and work, hamas invested it in building more tunnels, more rockets, more weaponry. >> john: and enriching themselves as well. as we know, there are several billionaires counted among the hamas leadership. great to catch up with you, stay safe. >> thank you, john. thank you. >> sandra: united states striking back on iran's proxies after american bases in the middle east were attacked yet again. is the u.s. response enough? we are awaying a briefing from the pentagon. we'll bring you those updates as soon as we get them. plus this. >> shame. >> shame. >> shame. >> shame. >> you are a neo-nazi, you have to stop it. >> john: threats growing against jewish students on college campuses. some are calling out universities that will not denounce the hate. talk with two ivy league students who say what's happening on campus is not free speech. welcome to ameriprise. i'm sam morrison. my brother max recommended you. so my best friend sophie says you've been a huge help. at ameriprise financial, more than 9 out of 10 of our clients are likely to recommend us. our neighbors, the garcias, love working with you. because the advice we give is personalized, hey, john reese, jr. how's your father doing?
