what percentage is left ear three weeks after the beginning of this and what remains? >> reporter: the total population is 2. 3 million. the area of the northern gaza strip which seems to be in the target of the israeli military, gaza city, related refugee camps, 1.1 million. all of that group for the past two weeks has been told to leave, at least get down south. as of last night, there could be as many as 300-400,000 civilians still in the northern area and as we've been watching all night into this morning, that is exactly the area israel is targeting. it's a tricky game. factor in the civilians, the hostages, factor in some nasty hamas fighters and there's a big, big battle ahead. rachel: tell us what are the reasons on why these civilians haven't left? they have had three weeks, they've gotten these warnings, why would they stay? >> reporter: a couple reasons. number one, there's not too many places to go, refugee camps in the southern part of gaza, there are other residential structures but they to a large extent have been hit by is really fire and there's still no way to get out of israel, usually there is an outlet to israel that is completely cut off but the other outlet goes to egypt, that is where one could leave. that has been blocked off as well. they are pretty much trapped inside. and at the mercy of all sides, not just the israeli military but hamas. there have been reports that hamas has been telling people to stay in place. along with those hostages, a couple hundred thousand civilians, very good human shield for the militants. will: thank you. let's bring in jim hansen who served in the us army special forces. here we are, day 22, we are seeing incursions. a lot of airpower. what do you make of where we are? >> reporter: we've seen the beginning of the end of hamas. israel is not going to go halfway this time, they can't afford to so the idea that israel will agree to a cease-fire or stop short of eliminating hamas in gaza is a fantasy. it is unfortunate that hamas has forced most of those people to -- the blood of everyone killed in the terrorist attack in israel, until the last hamas terrorist draws breath in that city, israel has a right to push onto victory and let's hope they do that. rachel: at odds with his ground invasion and the intensifying of all this bombing in gaza is the lives of the hostages. let me play this. this is the son of a hostage and here's his concern. listen. >> the ground invasion would lower our chances to see the hostages. the minute they start the ground invasion, it's more important for israel to go on its way. rachel: what do you think of that? >> reporter: it's heartbreaking for that person to think of the death of their family member and anyone who has a family member or loved one as a hostage. the idea that taking hostages in a terrorist attack would stop the retribution, that would stop the next terror attack, is no way for israel to conduct its business. no country can be expected to allow an armed terrorist camp to invade them from next door and not eliminate that threat completely. that is what this is about. israel should be allowed to have a victory and that is going to put those hostages at risk. they will do everything they can to save as many as they can but at this point hamas must be eliminated. pete: we use the term ground invasion somewhat generally. i think we see images of tanks rolling in. i imagine we envision an infantry going door-to-door, block to block in gaza. is there historical parallel to what we might see in gaza? i have spoken to david belevia, once you go infantry it is a pretty blunt tool designed to destroy hamas, civilians and hostages become secondary to the objective. with 300,000 civilians, what is the example? what's the parallel to what we could experience in gaza? >> reporter: you mentioned beb bel belevia, a friend of ours who described the action in falluja where terrorists barricaded themselves. most of the civilians have been evacuated by them, wanted to simply have a world war ii band of brothers house to house fight and they got it. boss -- hamas has invited the same effect. the main headquarters is under the biggest hospital in gaza. they have done this on purpose. they want civilians to die to horrify everyone around the world, but we have to steel ourselves to the idea that we either take these terrorists out or we and bolton them and all of their compatriots around the world. it is going to be ugly. it is going to be horrible. civilians will die. but if we don't do this, the outcome will be worse. rachel: what do you say to people who wonder, 300,000 civilians, this could create more terrorists in the future? >> reporter: there are plenty of terrorists right now. hamas, their entire existence from the second they were formed in their charter was to be a genocidal war crime to destroy the jews and push them into the sea so that from the river to the sea palestine would be there's. the idea they will create more terrorists, it is already a terrorist state where every education system teaches from the time those kids are born that killing jews is a holy duty. we can't allow that. the israelis can't allow that and all of us need to support them all the way to the finish. pete: the full on indoctrination of jew hatred creates radicalization we are dealing with today. thank you so much. to another fox news alert, shelter in place for residents has been lifted after police found suspected mass shooter robert card dead. nate foy is live on the ground with the latest. >> reporter: after 48 long hours, the healing process can finally begin in this community, the man police say is responsible for the worst mass shooting in maine's history was found dead at 7:45 last night, apparently turned the gun on himself, reportedly was found near a dumpster at an old recycling facility where he used to work. we will show you where we are relative to the two locations where the shootings played out. right now we are ten miles from the bowling alley, 8 miles from the bar where police say robert card murdered 18 people and injured 13 others. we are a mile from the lisbon boat launch where card's white subaru was found with a gun inside. here's main governor janet mills. >> card is no longer a threat to anyone. many people share the sentiment but i also know is may not bring solace but now is a time to heal. >> reporter: we are learning more about the heroic response to the shootings from law enforcement. maine's commissioner of public safety described how four off-duty police officers responded to the first shooting at the bowling alley in 90 seconds and likely saved lives. >> in this particular instance the officers are in plain clothes shooting at a range around the corner, the call comes in, they hear that and they are going to respond and immediately go to help in anyway they can, not knowing if in fact they will be the focus in the first out. we are very lucky that the officers were that close and save lives with timed responses. >> reporter: here are the people who could not be saved. ronald moran. payton brewer ross, joshua seal. brian mcfarland, joseph walker, arthur strauss. max hathaway. stephen for cella. tommy conrad. michael desotreas the second. robert and lucille violet. william brackett lodz keith mcnair. here's one of the victims, joseph walker's father talking to lawrence jones on "fox and friends" about his son. >> my son went after the shooter trying to defend everyone that was being shot at, and lost his life in trying. >> your son died a hero. >> he did, he did and i'm proud of him. >> reporter: there's another news conference scheduled for today at 10:00. people still looking for more answers as to why this attack played out. police said they had in their position the accused shooter's phone as well as a note found in his house. they've not said to this point the contents of that note. perhaps that is something we will learn at today's news conference at 10:00. back to you guys. coming up, at least 20 us bases have been attacked by iran backed militant groups since israel's war with hamas began. will: we will talk about deadly proxy forces around the globe. these aren't just shipments. they're promises. promises of all shapes and sizes. each, with a time and a place they've been promised to be. a promise is everything to old dominion, because it means everything to you. reveals the regime's proxy forces have mounted at least 20 attacks on us bases and personnel since october 17th. rachel: a lot of land to cover but this is far from the first time they've hit us targets through these proxy groups. let's go off want to examine how iran's revolutionary guard corps which orchestrates props he attacks or armament does expanded their terror network across the globe. when you look at this, here's iran, there's israel, us maintains bases in the north of iraq and southeast syria, all of which in the last 20 days will have been targets of iranian backed groups. pete: before the last 20 days it was quiet for almost 6 months, none of this so this is been an explosion of attacks just since the war in israel began. whether these troops should be here, if iran wants to fund hezbollah in lebanon, they've got to go through syria and iraq which is part of the reason those bases are positions where they are. in addition to oilfields. will: we talk about iran being behind those perpetrating the attacks, let's talk about how iran does so. let's begin with the iranian revolutionary guard, independent branch of the uranian armed forces. it was originally designed and is always referenced when it comes to terror, was originally designed by the mullahs after the revolution in iran, to protect the mullahs from ever losing power. will: there were multiple crews in iran and once the islamists took over they didn't wanted to happen to them so there's a standing army in iran and the irt you see is meant to protect the house of khomeini and those who took over after the revolution of 73, and 52 there was a coup, americans put in the shop who was friendly to israel, once the uranian revolution happened in 73 they said it's not going to happen again. >> the big in flexion point of the revolution was the 80-88 iran iraq war where they began to take on more military responsibilities. today the uranian revolutionary guard has an army, navy and their own intelligence services, an independent army within an army. will: the most powerful army in that country. ironically in the iran/rack war, we were allied with iraq against iran, so this is a very complex story and we are sticking to the uranian portion of it so in an iran iraqi war, you see an expansion of the irt see's role, not just protecting at home but the revolution. will: we talk about hamas, hezbollah, the group you often hear referenced is the codes force, this became active during the lebanese civil war, they set up bases throughout the middle east and afghanistan, beyond the middle east and afghanistan, interact, lebanon a in iraq, lebanon and as we know now helping hamas and gaza in the west bank. pete: if they want to export islamic views and values they do it through that arm. it started in destabilizing lebanon which created the opportunity for hezbollah, the most powerful force north of israel but also in afghanistan and iraq, we lay out some examples of how they tried to foment the shieh islamist view of the world in a neighborhood almost exclusively that is sunni muslim. will: i corrected myself a big exclusively focused on the middle east because pakistan and afghanistan, a group we don't talk about enough is the houthis in yemen where there's been a civil war going on for quite some time, that's an offshoot of shiite islam, the only sunni group is hamas in gaza that affiliated with uranian revolution. pete: the only sunni group in the west bank and gaza that is aligned strategically with iran. otherwise they are trying to empower she a militia forces. we will talk about the air rack war in syria where they allied with the dictator there as well and all of it is to stand up against a large part saudi arabia and that block of arab sunni states which might be why the war started in the first place because saudi arabia was drawing closer to israel, iran couldn't tolerate that. will: they looked for an israeli of responsible distanced them from saudi arabia. we might be seeing that as we speak. look at the attacks that have been conducted, dating back to the 1983 or so, under the banner or under the funding of the uranian revolutionary guard starting with 1983, the beirut bombings, the barracks of us marines as well as the french barracks as well in peru, lebanon. will: of the reagan's regrets was leaving after that which sent a signal to the uranian force, when we bomb, when we strike the americans fully so they continue to do that. will: your point about the rivalry with saudi arabia. american forces were killed but sally's as well. pete: for those of us in the post 9/11 generation, fought in a row, a lot of the women supplied insider act was supplied by irani and backed militias. explosively formed penetrators. i was there when we started to learn about this tactic, so sophisticated that it wasn't being created by someone in their backyard. it had to have regime supported it was clear it was the uranian so 20% of deaths of americans during a certain time period coming from iran. blue when it seems so overt it is undeniable. we mention the saudi's, there was the bomb plot to kill the saudi ambassador to the united states and washington dc, that plot was foiled but highlighting the rivalry in the middle east between saudi's and uranian's. will: this is a regime premised on hostagetaking if your member 79, they took those us hostages from the embassy, from the university that ultimately became a big part of jimmy carter's downfall, they use those hostages to leverage defense. will: let's show you the role they are playing in the modern era. sole soleimaniwas helping bashar al-assad stay in power, so not just terror but military might to help her regime, this time in syria. pete: this is regime protection. asad wants to stay in power so he allies with soleimani in iran. will: i mentioned the houthis and the courts forces helping that civil war. and offshoot of shiite muslims as the rebels in yemen. pete: this is a terror organization, and sent a single reverberated through to ron and iran, the head of the ku ts force exporting that tower against american troops. blue when the real take away playing out in real time with these strikes across the globe is the united states and iran doing this dance of limited strikes, gleeful but limited strikes and by proxy, against one another, trying, i would assume to avoid of full out war but essentially conducting a proxy war in the middle east. will: no doubt over who controls oil-rich areas, who control strategic areas, who controls areas around allies like israel, one mistake in the wrong direction but it is interesting, experts told us killing salamon's miscalculation, it wasn't. will: that is off the wall. up to you. >> everything is based on politics. his litmus is how many people can he drive to the ballot box? he knows that if he goes against that base of supporters that want an open border he risks not having them vote for him in the next presidential election so everything he does is strictly based on politics, he doesn't care about the safety and security of the american people, he cares about what his own personal ambitions are and that's upsetting to every border patrol agent out there. you put the uniform on every day, we go out and patrol the border, we want to do what's best for the american people and hope we have a president that would want to do the same thing but he doesn't want to. rachel: i'm trying to understand the electoral component unless he plans to turn all of these illegals into voters at some point. >> it is a very important issue for democrats in the middle but when you look at the hard left, look at the base, those are the people who want open borders, they don't care how much chaos is caused in the united states, they want people to come here, you hear democrats say these people aren't coming here, they will not be able to vote because they are in the country illegally and that is not necessarily true. you have to look at what dc did in local elections. you can be illegal and you can vote in local elections. then when you look at it, they come here and marry a united states citizen, now they have a sponsor for that citizenship which will ultimately lead to voting down the road. it is all about politics for the democrats and that doesn't serve our country. rachel: you have mail ballots which increase the chances of fraud but you have a terrorist attack, a lot of those electoral ambitions the democrats have will fall apart because this, the danger we are in is atrophied. thank you for joining us, appreciate it. rachel: we have a very busy three hours as we follow major breaking news at home and in israel. stay with us. ness premier card is made for sam who makes, everyday products, designed smarter. genius! like 2.5% cash back on purchases of $5,000 or more, so sam can make smart ideas, a brilliant reality! chase for business. make more of what's yours. this isn't just freight. these aren't just shipments. they're promises. promises of all shapes and sizes. each, with a time and a place they've been promised to be. a promise is everything to old dominion, because it means everything to you. .. blendjets halloween sale is back from the dead. take advantage of spine chilling savings. blendjet 2 gives you monstrous power for a delicious smoothie, shake, or frappé anytime, anywhere. cleaning blendjet 2 is scary easy. just blend water with a drop of soap. recharge quickly with any usb port. boo-gie on over to blendjet.com and order yours today. i told myself i was ok with my moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. with my psoriatic arthritis symptoms. but just ok isn't ok. and i was done settling. if you still have symptoms after a tnf blocker like humira or enbrel, rinvoq is different and may help. rinvoq is a once-daily pill that can dramatically relieve ra and psa symptoms, including fatigue for some. it can stop joint damage. and in psa, can leave skin clear or almost clear. rinvoq can lower your ability to fight infections, including tb. serious infections and blood clots, some fatal; cancers, including lymphoma and skin cancer; death, heart attack, stroke, and tears in the stomach or intestines occurred. people 50 and older with at least one heart disease risk factor have higher risks. don't take if allergic to rinvoq as serious reactions can occur. tell your doctor if you are or may become pregnant. done settling?
