everyone, sandra smith along with harold ford jr., judge jeanine pirro, jesse watters, and will cain. it's 5:00 in new york city and this is "the five." ♪ ♪ fox news alert, two major stories happening at this hour. israeli forces are currently inside the gaza strip as the idf expands operations there. multiple bombings, explosions, and tank fire lighting up the night sky for several hours now. there is also breaking news out of maine in the search for the mass shooter robert card. police are expected to give an update any moment now on the manhunt and we will bring you there live when that begins. but first, to the breaking news out of israel, the idf striking gaza in the biggest offensive yet. 21 days this has been going on. let's go straight to trey yingst on the ground in southern is israel, and trey, you told us a short time ago, this is the most you have seen, the biggest escalation in this war to date. >> absolutely. over the past several hours, we have been watching as the israeli air force hammers the gaza strip with air strikes. in the distant, you will hear some explosion. when the skylights up that is an indication there striking targets in the northern part of gaza. above me you might be able to hear the buzz of an israeli drone trying to pick out the next targets for the israelis. it is not just the air campaign, though. also on the ground, the israelis are pushing forward their artillery units to hammer the eastern side of gaza as ground forces do enter in a limited but expanded, according to the israeli military, raid. we should make the distinction here. this is not come according to the military, the full scale ground operation that is anticipated, but it is a much larger read that we have seen the past several nights. along the border here we have heard tanks firing into the gaza strip. we have heard machine gun fire and sources inside gaza telling us they can hear those explosions there even as far down as the southern part of the gaza strip. remember, gaza is 25 miles long. to give you a sense just throughout the day what this does look like, rocket fire still coming off of gaza 21 days into this conflict, targeting not just southern but also central israel, sending hundreds of thousands of people to bomb shelters. guys, back to you. >> sandra: trey, can you just give us some idea what you have seen and heard so far, and if this was indeed the full scale ground invasion that has been anticipated, how we would know that indeed is happening. >> it's a great question, and we spoke today in person in tel aviv, israel second largest city, with the country's defense minister, and i asked him a number of questions about the expected ground operation, especially about the timing, and he told me that once it begins, this is not a question of weeks, but rather months. you can hear that explosion they are, some outgoing artillery fire into the gaza strip. this is a very active front mind, i can hear the fighter jets overhead. at to give you a sense of what we have been hearing and seeing, you will see a large explosion and the skylights up, a loud boom in the distance, but it is not just here that is facing this front. it is all over israel because despite the israeli air strikes that have continued since the october 7th massacre of so many innocent people here that kicked off this ground war in the middle east, there has been continued rocket fire toward major population centers. just today, a few hours ago, we were taking fire here. air raid sirens were sounding. you only have about ten seconds to respond at this location so we had to rush to a nearby shelter. and in tel aviv, they have a little bit more time but are facing similar scenarios and we really should note that while we talk about the bombs and the bullets and the air strikes, the civilian population here is paying such a heavy price. the psychological trauma of living amid this water. three weeks in, following a brutal massacre against the civilian population is so difficult for the israeli people and for the jewish state to consume. and inside gaza, more than 2 million palestinians there. we are talking with them tonight. a few of them do have the ability to text despite the fact that communication is down along the strip fear of anyone who has a foreign sim card is able to gl off an israeli cell tower and i have been trying to get more color of what is taking place inside gaza. but as we speak, and you can hear the jets overhead, a ground war is unfolding before our eyes and israel's defense minister telling fox news today this will last for months. guys? >> jeanine: trey, it is jeanine pirro here. now we have heard most of the day that this is a limited raid and that the heavy artillery comes after this but there is a report from axios that says -- axios -- it says israel's war cabinet decided to expand ground operations in gaza after talks on a possible hostage release with hamas reached a stalemate, two israeli officials told ax axios. so now, it appears -- and i don't come i'm curious as to whether or not you have any information on this -- that this may be, you know, the bigger raid based upon the failure of hostage negotiations. >> so i have been working throughout the night talking with western intelligence sources and also regional sources who are familiar with the hostage situation. today, the israelis actually raised the number of hostages being held inside gaza to 229 people. and as they get more information and proof of life for those israelis that were dragged into gaza on october 7th, they will update the number. in terms of the timing of tonight's expanded raid, it's challenging to say exactly why, because this all has to do with the situation on the ground at i want to just review a few notes i took today, much of the conversation was off the record with israel's defense minister, but we were able to get some information on the record, clear to report to you now and i want to take you through the mission of the israeli army. they gave us four points of what they're trying to do. they say the first one, the destruction of hamas' military and governing capability along the strip. the second one, returning those hostages that are being held. and understand their high level negotiations going on behind the scenes. remember already four have been released, two american citizens and two israeli citizens. the third on the list, securing israel's southern arena where we are act right now. and deter israel's adversaries in the region. iranian proxies exist across the middle east, not just in the gaza strip, hamas and islamic jihad, also lebanon, the lebanese military group hezbollah that has fired antitank missiles into northern israel. guys, back to you. >> will: thank you, trey come appreciate that. turn to you guys here with a few comments. trey laid out the military goals of the israeli army. it strikes me as number one and number two almost work against one another. one, to destroy hamas, and two to recover every one of those hostages. i had david bella vehicle who won the medal of honor in fallujah, for urban warfare, because i believe we have a press conference right now, are we ready to go to this? >> sandra: we are getting a update on the manhunt for the killer in maine. listless end. >> for starters, let me just say, for the consideration of the victims and their family, we are requesting the asl interpreter is in all frames for language access here in maine and the u.s. they are grieving and have a right to know the latest info in asl. you can see we changed this a little bit, kind of the set up from earlier today. and again, as we continue to evolve, right, lots of podiums, lost our maps, the whole thing was a little bit of mess earlier, to be quite hon honest. victims in this investigation, the people who do the work, deserve better than that. i would also tell you we are kind of looking for a larger venue, as well. the chains here and everything else seems to work. we are going to use some technology for some pictures here right off the bat. so, i would say, again, thank you for joining us, it has been a busy day for our law enforcement officers and our partners around the state. i'm going to give some updates from what we found, but the real primary reason i wanted to bring you back in today is we wanted to really identify the victims. and show their pictures. we won't get into family backgrounds and their lineage at all but we do want to show those pictures, give ages, and would say that the families didn't want hometowns listed. they do certainly deserve and want some privacy around these issues, which makes complete sense. and we are going to start with that. component of our information simply because that is why we are here, right? this is about the victim list. that is why we do what we do. we are going to go ahead and load that behind us here on the screen. and i think shannon moss can also put that information out following the spirit some specifics here, i would just like to note that the of silence before we continue on to our next agenda item. but that top left, as you see it, and that is ronald g moran, 55. i won't read the venues, you can put that all together yourself. peyton brewer-ross, four years of age. joshua a seal, six years of age. brian m mcfarland, 41 years of age. joseph lawrence walker, 57. arthur fred strout, 42. max a hathaway, 35. steven m brucella, 45. thomas ryan conrad, 34. michael r deslaurier ii, 51. jason adam walker, 51. tricia c asselin, 53. william a young, 44. aaron young, 14, his son. robert e violette, 76. his wife, 73. william frank brackett, 47 years of age. keith d mcnair, 64. just have a moment of silence, thank you. thank you for that, truly appreciated. we appreciate that for the family. they did give us those photos. i did not, however, have any of the family members pronounce any of those last names, so certainly no disrespect intended, in any way, screwed up the pronunciation. to move on i would also like to address the numbers of the victims that i confirmed earlier today with the number eight. and i will tell you, that is miscommunication on my part, i was wrong, in talking to our detectives, we had a list for people that had been identified and family members that had been notified, also a separate list that involved family advocacy and whether or not they had been plugged into that. so the reality here is all 18 of those victims, everybody that we listed here today, everybody has been identified and their families have been notified, so we were in contact with them. i would expect some more information later tonight and i will definitely talk about it tomorrow morning at 10:00, in reference to family information center and new location and some material around exactly what services will be available at that particular time. but i definitely wanted to make sure i correct that mistake from earlier. so, several other updates from this morning's briefing. i know that shannon has sent along the aerial maps that we showed, or tried to show here on the board, so you have received those. i also think that we had -- shannon has corrected this, as well, the boat ramp, the proper name was the paper mills trail and miller park boat launch. the address was correct at 501 lisbon street. the jump scott is a little further down the river come apparently, and we like and appreciate everybody working with us to make sure we have the proper location and proper terminology for that. and other additional updates, the boat launch search of the river, they are still out there right now and they will be there as long as they can based on the light, and as we mentioned earlier, talking about sonar and grid searches, that is time intensive and taking a while to work through there. they want to make sure they do it right. we are not going to finish that search this evening. i would be surprised if you ever saw divers in the water overall. but tomorrow we will have additional dive resources available to us from out of state, as well as some additional in-state teams. again, we will discuss that a little bit at 10:00 tomorrow, but no surprises, we expect that to go over, and we will have some assets there tomorrow. they did a bunch of flyovers this morning, as i mentioned, they did the sonar searches, some are ovi. we will be back on that tom tomorrow. the bar scene itself, they continue to do their own nonscene investigation, as well as at the bowling alley. they did check the lines. they may be back in there tomorrow, as well but that is progressing as expected. and i think another major piece of updates for you now is to talk about the shelter-in-place order. and where that's going, effective immediately. and i am not a big reader of orders, but i think this is important that you hear this directly from a couple different sources. we are going to put out a release. there is going to be a cell phone geo-fence release to some folks. we have used that a couple of times already during active shooter is a warning and otherwise. the shelter-in-place order is rescinded. except hunting is prohibited in the towns of lewiston, lisbon, bowdoin, and monmouth, beginning saturday, 10/28/24, until further notice. the state police continue to search in lewiston, lisbon, bowdoin, and monmouth, for the suspect robert card and recommend people remain vigilant. businesses may remain open or closed. the commissioner is here to help us answer any additional questions about that hunting peace. it was asked this morning, and it was a good question, and i told you at that time we were working on an answer for that and what that means is the general shelter in place has been rescinded. specifically hunting again is prohibited in those four towns and those four towns only and it is important i mentioned that because the rest of the state is allowed to continue with their resident-only day on saturday, tomorrow. and what does that mean? that means they are going to be communities that hear gunshots from time to time because there are going to be hunting. so we would ask everybody to use caution in that and not think that everyone of those gunshots is directly regarding this particular crisis situation, this investigation. clearly, if they think, they are suspicious or concerned, they can certainly call their local agencies, but i've asked them to think about that, where they are located, when did they hear that, if they are 150 miles north, do they need to call their 911 center and create a response. i would say no to that unless they have another set of facts, a fact pattern that would lead them to believe there is a direct connection between that gunfire and what they have heard to this point. so we had mentioned why we made that decision initially because of the crisis and the situation that we had. those four towns in particular clearly with lewiston amber two tragic situations here, two locations we talked about and then you have lisbon with the boat launch, bowdoin where the suspect lived, and monmouth, other families in that particular area, as well, so this is not to say that the crisis is over, the emergency is done, we can go about our lives as life is good. we want our folks, we want our residents to remain vigilant and to pay attention to what we share for information. i again focus on what we share in the department of public safety in the city of lewiston. we continue to see a lot of information from a lot of different places, that is far from accurate. i would also say in that regard, when we say we are going to meet you here at 10:00, we're going to meet you here at 10:00 and when we say we are going to notify you, we are going to notify you in the afternoon if we are going to get together and what time that is. i just encourage you to believe that until i prove you wrong. and i won't. and i say that because we have heard some other stuff, there is going to be a press conference at 1:00, and then our pio, who is incredibly busy, get the hundred email, one 1:00 or this? we are trying to help you do your job and if you could help us do our job that would be great. i would be greatly appreciated. that will be the pieces for updates from what we worked on this morning. a couple of additional things, neighborhood canvases come as an example, i did not speak to that, so we talked about large deployments of officers in various locations, what would that look like? neighborhood canvases could be a couple of officers knocking on the door. that is going to be happening at various locations around this particular area, in multiple towns. again, if somebody is using their own common sense and they say that does not seem right, then sure, call, but you could have two uniformed officers, who clearly display badges, jumping out of a marked card to talk to you as detectives. there was a question this morning around arrival times at the locations, research on that, hot off the presses walking out the door to come here today. so spare time, as we mentioned earlier, that initial 911 call occurred at 6:56 p.m. and by the c.a.d. system, the computer aided dispatch system, someone calls on the radio, i am at that location, the first officer, the first lewiston officer arrived based on that system at 7:00 p.m. so 4 minutes later. the reality they are, however, is there were four plainclothes police officers that were shooting on the range and that general area, they hear that call come in, and they are walking into the bar, or rather the bowling alley, about a minute and a half. so they don't have radios, they weren't in uniform, they hear it as they are at the range and respond to the address immediately and then they addressed the threat and clear the building. for that same location, right, spare time, as an example, lewiston, self-contained police department, they work with everybody, not uncommon, they do not have specific areas to patrol, calls came into dispatch centers for the department of public safety that would control the maine state police as an example at 6:57, so a minutish later, and we did not necessarily have troopers right inside the town so 11 minutes later our first trooper arrives, actually, and that is a pretty good response time considering it is an urban atmosphere and troopers are not here. the second call came at 7:08, so this is the bar and grill. the first lewiston officers responding their at 19: 13, 7:13 p.m., 5 minutes later. and then really, it becomes exponential after that as an example, should have mentioned this earlier but spare time, a minute after those initial officers respond, eight more there. now we are saying now everybody is starting to roll in about the same time, and about ten officers are responding to the bar and grill immediately thereafter. you got the first folks and then people are just showing up from the police department at other locations. in that particular calls for service, for the maine state police, through to parma to safety dispatches, we got that second call at 7:10 come about d it and officers responding in 3 minutes later. why is that? they are already flying to the first address and i we get a second call and now they are diverting to that second call, so they are in town and they are running hard to that location. so, those are the arrival times that i was asked about earlier today. i think, based on the list that i made this morning, i think that is all we have for information. and i will just call that updates and follow-ups, things i knew you were asking. there were some additional questions from the general public, which has been good for us to receive those, they get a chance to see stuff and reach out and say, what does this mean? we had a bunch of people reach out about that shelter in place and what does that mean and what should i do and what does that look like? and rather than answer those through conversations with city staff, city leadership, police chiefs, we decided to rescind that order, again, but recommend that people remain vigilant as they move forward. so i do appreciate them reaching out, and all of that contact has something to do with our ultimate decision, where do we go from here? so, with that in mind, that's the information that i was asked and the information that i can update. we do have, i believe, the suspect picture up here as another piece, and the reason that we did this is because it has been quite some time, we have seen that photo and you have a bunch of different photos, this in fact has more of the physical description of his height and weight and is more official hair and eye color, you can guest on that based on some of the photos you see, but why do that if we can directly give you that information, so if you can freshen up any material that you have there, and if it does again show that brown hooded sweatshirt and cargo pants that are in the photo that we had released earlier, which showed him walking in to spare time with that firearm. so i think that is the information that i wanted to get out to you today. i appreciate you coming back, i know you have long days and long nights so that peace, going to be around him anyway, i am sure. i am happy to try to take some questions and answers, the chief is here, as well, but we did want to keep this type from an operational standpoint. yes, sir? >> reporter: [indistinct] officers at the scene -- [indistinct] >> yeah, sure. officers are required to qualify a certain number of times a year, right? in this particular instance, the officers are in plain clothes and shooting at a range right around the corner. the call comes in, they hear the outcome and they are going to respond, which just speaks to win these things happen, everybody is going, you can be a detective, the chief is bailing out of the station, you can be wherever, everybody goes. being lewiston officers, we know where that is, everybody in the car and immediately go to spare time to help in any way they can, not knowing that in fact they are going to be the closest there in the first out. that cuts most to two and a half minutes off the original, or the initial uniform police officers response. and that is not uncommon from a police standpoint. sometimes you got months where you are thinking, i'm right around the corner when all the stuff happens. the other times, i'm on the other side of the city when stuff happens. we are very, very lucky that the officers were that close because i think you saved lives with time responses, and in an urban atmosphere depending on where everybody is and how busy the night is, that response could have been much longer than that. yes, sir? >> reporter: have there been any credible sightings of the suspect by other law enforcement or the public since the shooting took place? >> yeah, so we have again 530 plus tips and leads that have come in. some of those have been sightings. some of those have been -- and i would say, hey, i've got a vacant house in this location, i own a barn that i am afraid to go to, there is something over here that concerns me, so those things run the gamut. and i'm also going to use that opportunity, the fbi supervisory agent in charge, jodi cohen, who has been with us during these press conferences, we gave that digital video information out this morning. there is already well over 100 entries in that system. so that means you are putting that information out and the general public is grabbing hold of that, wanting to be involved and sending that information in. so i thank you for that and we certainly think the fbi for their assistance with that kind of material. so we've got all kinds of -- somebody may say -- >> reporter: has law enforcement seen in the last two days? >> we have not. law enforcement has not seen him in the last two days. but again, in that stack of that 500 plus, you may have somebody who says, hey, we see somebody who looks like that, so we have not but go ahead, ma'am. >> reporter: [indistinct] >> i cannot come and i am not going to speak to the note itself. acknowledge the fact a note existed this morning but i am not going to get into exactly what it came. sir? >> reporter: you said the plainclothes officers who responded cleared the building. explain more. >> when i say address the threat, they are going in the door addressing an active shooter, so they are going and prepared to do whatever they need to do to make that scene safe. on that particular time, the suspect is no longer there. they are going in as if they were. the first thing you do is go in and clear that location, make sure it is safe, and then you start working with victims and triaging people and trying to make sure you are getting additional units there as fast as possible. yes, sir? >> reporter: when the officers arrived at the second scene, by the time the suspect had already left, outside the area of lewiston, the suspicion he might have been able to potentially get outside? >> sure. the suspect was not of a second location when the officers arrived. as we discussed this morning, we showed those three maps as specific areas we knew we were definitely going to be working in, and we also cleared other areas that are farther afield. somebody may again say, you know, there is a barn over there, and outbuilding over there come a family that somebody on both own, can you check that, so as those things come in, some of those are on the checklist because as those leads come in, either tactical units that are looking on that apprehension side, or investigative units that can go out and do additional relay. >> reporter: could have gone outside? >> at this point we are cognizant of all possibilities. we are not closing off anything because we want to make sure that we are being as comprehensive as we can with these particular searches. yes, ma'am? >> reporter: [indistinct] >> in what town? durham? yeah, that's a situation where i heard that on the radio, somebody had reached out to say somebody may ask that question today, so we did look at that. there was a location there on a street in durham where there were two 911 hang up calls. 911 hang-up calls happen on a regular basis depending on where they are, you may go wait a second, then we had a second call, and then there was a sheriff's deputy at responded to the scene and ultimately did not answer the radio. wright, 911 hangup, and i don't hang up, wait a second, the officer that responded is not talking, that could be a lot of different reasons. >> sandra: we will continue to monitor this news conference out of maine as the manhunt continues for a man accused of killing 18 people, 18 dead, 13 injured. the authorities there naming every single victim and their ages, saying more divers will be looking again tomorrow. they have no specifics on his whereabouts at this moment. the shelter-in-place order, that was a big piece of news out of there because this is drastically changed lives all around maine, shelter in place has been rescinded, although it is hunting season, so they are telling hunters not to take to the fields there in some areas. they are going to have another news conference he said 10:00 a.m. tomorrow with an update. fortunately, jesse, this person has not been found. >> jesse: yeah, he either swallowed a bullet or he is hiding in a cabin or he is in canada. he is very well trained, he is a professional killer, you can tell by his posture and his -- this guy is probably going to be, i would say maybe a month in the woods, remember rudolph? remember he basically disappeared, and then he got greedy and was dumpster diving? this guy is going to probably run out of bullets because you can only kill so many deer, only fish so many fish, and it is going to be a waiting game. he knows the terrain, knows all the contours, talk to people, he knows where to hunt, and he probably goes north or west because if you go south or east, you are going to the ocean, south you are basically going deep into massachusetts. he is probably west. i think this guy might be in a small cabin somewhere, maybe in a sniper position, has the place booby trapped, he moves around at night, but the guys have all the toys out, they have the heatseeking sensory technology and helicopters. a waiting game. a lot of variables. the guy has a motorcycle, a jet ski, a property here, he's got a house. i don't -- i don't want to say anything about the main law enforcement situations but these guys only have 17 men in that district, so they are bringing in the heavy artillery from the south. the guys from the south and the fbi they do not know the terrain, either, so could be out there a long time. >> sandra: this is really thick wilderness, a vast area, or old, they have been searching. robert card is the suspect, considered armed and dangerous. lifting the shelter-in-place order is a critical decision peered >> harold: found that curious. good to be back with everybody. i don't like to judge law enforcement in their decision during a manhunt, i am not there, i'm not a professional. i would have thought it might have gotten more about what might be the most promising lead that they have uncovered that has been pres presented. how is the fbi, the coast guard, you believe the water and the ocean could be part of this, how are they involved, what questions are they asking, what resources have a brought to bear, especially since he announced they were lifting the stay and shelter order, i think he said you could hunt in certain places but not hunt in certain places, i would imagine because people will be firing guns, they do not want them calling the police, the point was made around the table may be the hunters could be helpful in this situation but i'm sure they thought long and hard around the spirit i would love to know come how is the canadian government cooperating, what has been the kind of communication, what can you share? one of the things that has to happen, you have to maintain public trust and public safety communities ability to go about finding this killer. i was pleased to see the faces, it humanized what happened here. but i've got to tell you, if i were related to one of those people in those pictures, i would want to know answers to the questions. >> sandra: i think about the fear this has involved in so many schoolchildren's, schools and businesses have been closed up to 100 miles away from where he carried out this gruesome crime peered >> jeanine: for good reason. children are afraid. these are small towns, sandra, you know, everybody knows everybody else, so the kids are afraid and as that individual, that law enforcement individual indicated, it is up to the particular businesses and schools as to whether or not they want to stay closed, but it is very interesting, right now it is not just a small police department, it is the fbi, state police, u.s. marshals who are very good at this, it is also of our tax come caught that prisoner who escaped from the pennsylvania prison. what is most interesting is the fact that he left the car near a dock, so the question is whether or not he actually got into the androscoggin river or whether that was a diversion, the truth is he was a sergeant first class, he is smart, he may be crazy, but he is smart, so the question is, if he is absolutely insane, an insane person does not know to run away, and insane person, not time and space and reality. if this guy is making a run for it, he may end up getting killed, he may end up dying somehow, but i really think he has made the decision after planning this out to go on the run, i think as jesse said, i think he is going to canada. i think he can cross the border. you have a lot of the tribal, the various native american indian tribal agencies that he might have to go through to get to canada. and this note, i don't know if it is a suicide note. i don't know if it is a note to his son that says "in the event that i die or this is the reason i did it." there is a lot going on and it could be that he killed himself. i don't think he did. or that he is on the run. >> sandra: well, he is capable of a lot more danger here. the elite border unit, to your point, has also joined the manhunt. some people who know him s -- >> will: it is all speculation. what would point me to the idea he is probably no longer alive, that would be my speculation, they said you could go hunting some 150 miles away, they limited the woods restriction to just those neighboring counties, which initially took place. it doesn't seem to suggest they are worried about him being in the woods far west or far north. eric rudolph is an interesting analogy come after the '96 olympics bombing. pursuing richard jewell. he could be off the radar literally because were not focusing on him. they are focused on this guy and it reminds me -- the analogy reminds me of the hiker out in utah who killed his girlfriend, the names are escaping me, he searched for them forever, find him dead in florida. >> sandra: fair point. divers will be back in the river, another update. israeli forces on the ground in gaza and the u.s. striking back at iranian proxies in response to the growing number of attacks on troops in iraq and syria. my name's dan and i live here in >> well, jesse, the sky here continues to rumble and pop as air strikes go into the gaza strip and the artillery firing in support of the troops on the ground in the gaza strip. for the past three nights we have seen israeli incursions into the land of the gaza strip, the land around the gaza strip but they come out, what we are seeing tonight at least as described by rear admiral, and expansion of the ground incursions we have seen to this point. we know that some of the armor has rolled into gaza and we have reports that hamas fighters have made contact with some of that armor that has gone in by contact, trying to fight the israeli forces as they are advancing into the cause gaza strip. the information i am getting, the whole of gaza city was subject to air strikes today. the power is out, mostly because of the loss of fuel in the internet service and self-service has gone out in the gaza strip. one guy keeping in contract because he has an american phone, but communication is very difficult, food program says they lost contact with their staff. that really is of the situation, we are waiting to see how things sort out tonight, but again, people who are watching, all of us watching and anticipating a full-throated invasion of the gaza strip and what we are hearing from the idf is this is not that. as we have heard from the assistant to the advisor to the prime minister, this is the start of hamas getting payback for what they did on oct october 7th. jesse? >> jesse: thanks, mike, stay safe. the increased operation comes as u.s. fighters jets against sites in syria following more than a dozen drone and rocket attacks against american forces and in iraq. we are just learning of a 20th attack on u.s. troops in the middle east since october 17th. the pentagon says they are ready to strike those terror groups again. >> we will see. we will see if iran gets the message. as we have done in the past, we certainly reserve the right to take additional strikes and continue to ensure the message is loud and clear that we will protect our forces and that these kind of attacks are unacceptable. >> these strikes were very much done in self-defense. our facilities have come under a range of attacks, largely by these proxy groups, backed by iran, iraq, and in syria. >> jesse: all right, well, before we get to the israeli ground incursion and a second, we struck a few targets, and that apparently didn't get the message through. we are getting return fire. what does that tell you? >> will: it tells you these iranian-backed terrorist groups are not concerned about the reaction of the united states. now i will tell you that i feel for the administration or anybody trying to thread this needle in that how do you avoid a world war and how do you back the bully down? that is a tough needle to thread, but you half -- the only answer, everyone throughout history, you have to respond with strength and i think you can accomplish both goals, hopefully without provoking an overwhelming regional war, one that spills over to us. while backing down these minor attacks against americans, which deserve a responsive strength. >> jesse: and this new incursion into northern gaza, to me it looks like a shaping operation. you know, you go and you probe, you see what the hamas reaction is, what the tactics are, what the intelligence tells you and that kind of leaves leads you to the next step and a formal ground invasion. how do you interpret what is going on? >> will: trey yingst laid out for us, the israeli army's main goals as they prepare for this ground invasion. the top two goals of which were, one, destroy hamas, two, recover hostages. i was just in the process of saying i think the two goals are very hard to accomplish tog together. david bellavia earned the medal of honor come on my show, podcast, was describing urban warfare, he earned the medical medal ofhonor for fallujah. he talks about studying, when you send the infantry in, it is no longer a scalpel operation. there may be special forces out there capable of bringing back hostages but once you send the infantry and role in it is about taking out the enemy. brute lethal force, anything else is a secondary goal. >> jesse: going to be a methodical operation that could take months, we are hearing, sandra. >> sandra: general kellogg made that prediction on our air when we ask him to predict just that. rear admiral, we also him on camera earlier, he was talking, the army spokesman, he said these aerial attacks have been targeting hamas tunnels and other targets, in addition to the attacks carrying out, ground forces right now, the idf acting with great force, he detailed, to achieve the objectives of this war, we have to ask ourselves what the end game is in victory is and what that will look like him israel said its plan is to crush hamas' rule in gaza and its ability to threaten israel. we know that is clear. but how hamas' defeat will be measured and the invasions end game, you made the case, remains unclear at this hour, so as those days, hours, days, and weeks go on, that will be a bigger and bigger question. >> jesse: as we said, it is surgical from the air but once you get in there and have tunnels, we have to report they are throwing in bunker busters so this will be a gnarly scene in a couple of weeks. speed to everybody i agree with, i think will's point about trying to balance and understand, how do you thread the needle here when you have to do two things, first you have to destroy hamas 'escape of buddies, sandra, your point about how does that look, what is the definition, i think the israelis are going to find, they are the ones i do have to live with the consequent is. my hunches, 53 years old, served in congress, i sense resoluteness and determination on the part of the israelis to never have a generation of israelis that have to deal with this again on their border. how to balance and thread the needle, keep our arab allies where there is massive conversation on our side because i think those allies, including european allies but particularly those in the region, we have to keep them as aligned with us as possible as we respond to some of these attacks and as we get proactive about attacking to ensure they are not able to attack our troops and our as assets. we talked a few weeks ago on this show, the president may not have been mentioning the iranians by name, they know doggone well he knows who they are, where they are, and we have agreed is not only intelligence but the military on the ground, more assets than we ever had in that region in my lifetime since war -- wartime. we are going to have even more come next week. i give them the benefit of the doubt on this, more than perhaps some might but i have to tell you, if we don't respond with force, as will said, this will continue and i think you said it each night on your show, as well. god bless the president, god bless our troops as they go about exercising, litigating the toughest thing i've seen in my lifetime. >> jesse: judge, did you find these counter strikes by the u.s. military to be too tentative, perhaps a little too late? >> jeanine: they were waiting for the missile defense systems to get over to those particular countries, i think it was saudi arabia, kuwait, qatar, we were at least in a position to defend our troops, i have heard now there have been 20 attacks on our troops, but we don't know yet how many troops have been injured. they haven't told us that and it took them a long time to tell us there were 13 attacks. unfortunately, i disagree with one thing harold said. we don't have the best intelligence. our intelligence failed us on this. 33 americans were killed, at least 13 over there that are in the tunnels right now. let me say one thing. this is war. war is ugly, jesse, you used the word gnarly. the truth is, hamas headquarters are located under a hospital. you are not supposed to attack a hospital unless they are using -- the enemy uses a hospital to protect itself. and it can do that. the question of proportionality must be consistent with a military goals and legitimate target. the onus right now is on hamas. hamas, by putting their pentagon under a hospital, have just committed a war crime. and there is no question they spent two years preparing this. they have been working with landline so nobody could access the information they had. it's only with human intelligence and human sourcing that we know where these tunnels are. there are over 400 miles of tunnels under ground we have no idea where our americans are. so what we have to do is recognize that there will be harm, that there will be damage, and that the only time israel will stop, and this is their war, is when they get rid of hamas. i think bibi as stated in israel tonight is the turning point. tonight is the war. tonight is when they take down hamas. and unless we join them in making sure that this happens in a way where this kind of thing never happens again then we are going to be subjected to these kind of attacks, as well. >> harold: let me respond -- judge, what i said about our intelligence come all they have to do is be right one time and they were right one time and there were things, some of the press reports, things we end israelis ignored or did not take as seriously as we should have the last several weeks, i think our intelligence is the best in the world -- >> jeanine: we didn't catch the spirit >> harold: of course we didn't come otherwise we would not be having this conversation, my only point is they have to be right once -- >> jeanine: well, yeah -- >> harold: i am an american and i believe when our forces and intelligence say they are on the ground and focused to believe -- their politics or not, i just -- >> jeanine: what are you saying? i am agreeing too when we have american forces on the ground it is the best. what are you saying? what are you differing with? they missed this. am i 6 misted. moussad missed it. >> harold: they had signs. >> jesse: we are going to agree we agree.n "one more thing" is up next. with caplyta, there's a chance to let in the lyte. caplyta is proven to deliver significant relief across bipolar depression. unlike some medicines that only treat bipolar i, caplyta treats both bipolar i and ii depression. and in clinical trials, movement disorders and weight gain were not common. call your doctor about sudden mood changes, behaviors, or suicidal thoughts. antidepressants may increase these risks in young adults. elderly dementia patients have increased risk of death or stroke. report fever, confusion, stiff or uncontrollable muscle movements which may be life threatening or permanent. these aren't all the serious side effects. caplyta can help you let in the lyte. ask your doctor about caplyta. find savings and support at caplyta.com. this is american infrastructure, a prime target for cyberattacks. but the same ai-powered security that protects all of google also defends these services for everyone who lives here. ♪ (david jeremiah) when the rapture occurs, the world will capture the moment. the world will reel with concern from watching the strange, mind-boggling, and unbelievable video footage that goes viral across the globe.
