destruction still raging today. later this afternoon president biden will hold his first news conference since hamas carried out the terror attacks and escalating threats from iran target u.s. forces in the region. a bunch of things moving on that front as we say hello. i'm bill hemmer. here we go today. >> dana: i'm dana perino and this is "america's newsroom." hamas terrorists also trying to infiltrate israel from the mediterranean sea and foiled by the israeli navy. a who's who of -- top officials of hezbollah, hamas and islamic jihad holding talks how to achieve total victory over israel. >> the pentagon revealing more than 14 attacks, one more than yesterday against u.s. forces based in the middle east in the last week. the white house trying to connect the dots saying all these militia and all these terror groups are working hand in glove with tehran. >> iran is certainly complicit here. without them there is no hamas or hezbollah, without them there is no militia groups firing rockets at our troops in iraq and syria. >> dana: republican congressman michael waltz is former green beret is standing by. let's go to mike tobin live in israel. good morning, mike. >> good morning, dana. hamas rockets have found a new target today. this is across the negev desert bordering with jordan and egypt on the red sea. significant because it has not been in reach of most rockets. a lot of israelis have gone there to get away from the rocket fire. you have hezbollah and hamas and now there is no place in the country that gets you out of the rocket fire. israeli military has released video of that infiltration attempt by sea. they described hamas divers attempted to swim and infiltrate a city north of the gaza border. israel detected them in the sea and killed the divers. at least two killed. they found tunnels they used to enter the sea, blew that up and hit a weapon facility. the situation in gaza grows more desperate by the day. 600 palestinians are seeking refuge in u.n. shelters. israel has allowed a trickle of aid into the gaza trip. food, water, medicine. no fuel because they believe hamas will use that fuel for their war machine. also there was an air strike in aleppo at the airport there. it was hit. israel never usually confirms if they hit the airport or confirms those type of strikes but we know that the airport in aleppo and damascus have been used by iran to resupply hamas. back to you. >> dana: thank you. bill. >> >> we're concerned about other actors particularly iran looking for a way to widen this conflict beyond israel to other actors who want to take advantage of this conflict, don't. we're the most lethal fighting force the world has seen. >> bill: pentagon with dana and me yesterday talking about iran. the map behind us the level of concern there is on behalf of this administration. this is where most of the action is in gaza. this is iran and tehran way to the east. you see all the red dots on the map behind me? in the last week 14 strikes against u.s. bases from overseas. you have two here in syria, you have three others here in iraq. when you think about iran and the message this administration is trying to send the tehran. look at the fire power rolling into the seas here around the region. the gerald ford in the eastern mediterranean and in the red sea the carney that knocked four cruise missiles fired from yemen. yemen is to the south below saudi arabia. you have the carter, hall and u.s.s.baton. in october of 2000 it was in the gulf when the u.s.s. cole was blown up. persian gulf not there yet. eisenhower group is en route. what does that say? you look at that map and say where is iran? now the message, here is iran. the message is clear that the u.s. government is saying hold your fire. we heard that repeatedly yesterday. three different administration officials said the exact same thing. those are their talking points, message to iran leadership now. why is iran such a menace for israel? these are the routes that we believe are used out of iran. easy route to smuggle missiles, rockets, armaments across the northern edge of iraq, across syria north of beirut. another easy route to iraq and central syria as well. the west bank you'll hear about this reporting with mike tobin and trey yengst. this is what we believe from the institute for national security studies. the west bank on the eastern edge of israel you get the supply routes coming into damascus and trickle here to the west side of amman, the capital city of jordan. the best routes for the iranians to cause havoc throughout the area. dana mentioned this in beirut, lebanon the meeting took place yesterday among those leaders. michael waltz out of florida served in the middle east and back with us today. thank you for your time. i mentioned the administration leaders. here is antony blinken after questions with iran and what message you are sending them. here it is at the u.n. >> let me say what we've consistently said to iranian officials through other channels, the united states does not seek conflict with iran. we do not want this war to widen. but if iran or its proxies attack u.s. personnel anywhere, make no mistake we'll defend our people, we'll defend our security, swiftly and decisively. >> bill: at some point you could deliver that with more gusto but there it is. >> he is promising essentially assuring iran that we will defend ourselves. really tough and aggressively. how about we start talking about consequences, real consequences. shutting down their flow of oil that's at a five-year high and going after other money on the international market they're going after. president trump's administration all the proxies were all complaining they weren't getting enough funds from tehran. and then you add that, bill, to the mixed messaging the equivocating in the first few days after october 7th whether iran was directly involved just a few weeks ago the administration came before the house foreign affairs committee and argued to remove iran's proxies from the authorization use of military force and then the 14 times that our bases have been hit in the last few weeks is on top of 70 to 80 times in the last two years. and there have been 0 consequences for it and to the extent that there is, it's only against the proxies. not against iran itself. and that was the paradigm shift under president trump and mike pompeo. they imposed consequences of iran by taking out their most effective field general and deterrence was restored. we can have all these big, you know, movements of forces but if our adversaries don't believe we have the political will to impose real costs then it will be for nothing. >> dana: in regards to the fighting on the ground whether there should be a cease-fire or not. i don't know if this is mixed messaging or both. >> we don't believe that a cease-fire right now is what we would -- a cease-fire right now with only benefit hamas. >> we agree to protect civilians. that means hamas must cease using them as human shields. humanitarian pauses must be considered. >> dana: what do you understand the policy to be? >> then that's on top of the mixed messaging of the president of the united states standing in israel next to their prime minister lecturing them about human rights and wagging their finger to make sure you abide by the laws of warfare. there is an absolute distinct difference between targeting civilians and collateral damage of civilians. of course, pointing out the human shields. we aren't making that distinction. i think the sighing is nails are playing right into hamas's and iran's hands that we won't have the staying power when the going gets really tough in gaza. >> dana: can i ask you one last question. we're running out of time. i want to ask you about the president's request for aid for both israel and ukraine and you don't have a speaker yet. maybe it gets solved today. how does it look in terms of the congressional vote for that money? >> i'm optimistic about speaker, dana. on this 106 billion supplemental we need to talk about the policy. washington is terrible about just throwing more money at an issue. what does success look like in ukraine? what are the objectives? is it full expulsion, what is it? on the border if you just throw money at processing more people it will only attract more people. we have to deter the migrants and then we have an iran problem when it comes to israel. where is the reversal on iran before again we just rubber stamp a huge amount of money which could be -- i would argue probably is throwing a lot of good money after bad policies. >> dana: thank you. >> thank you. >> dana: louisiana's mike johnson the fourth house speaker nominee in two weeks after a late night closed door vote. another floor vote could take place when the house reconvenes at noon today. chad pergram is watching all of this with great interest to explain it to us. hi, chad. >> good morning. who is mike johnson? the gop's fourth speaker nominee after the rank and file burned through the entire leadership team and jim jordan and johnson could be speaker by early afternoon. he says democracy is messy. >> we have a very busy agenda, we have appropriations bills to get through the process. you will see this group looking -- working like a well-oiled machine. we owe it to the american people. people have been sent by the people of the country to do this job. we are going to do it well. >> he defeated byron donalds in a late night vote. hours earlier the gop's speaker nominee emotioner bested. he was out after four hours. 205 republicans voted by secret ballot. leading to question whether johnson can win on the floor today. >> he has his pulse on where the american people are and look, there was a lot of unity in the room. people were absent. it was late. looking at the list i don't see any serious hiccups there. i don't see any obstacles tomorrow. >> gop arizona representative crane was one of the eight republicans who voted to oust former speaker kevin mccarthy earlier this month creating the impasse. his constituents opposed tom emmer. >> change is difficult. when you get yourself there a mess like we got ours in as a country it will be painful to get out of it, right? i'm grateful that i think that we got a speaker nominee that my voters can get behind, be proud of. >> so the vote could come shortly after 1:00 p.m. eastern time. the winner needs an outright majority of all members voting for a candidate by name. it's about the math. johnson can only lose four votes and still prevail. >> dana: pretty tight with four votes. chad pergram, thank you. we'll be watching. [shouting] >> bill: that's a city council in the san francisco bay area passing a resolution blaming israel and ignoring hamas's horrific terror attacks. critics are piling on and we'll show you how. >> dana: this happened in colorado yesterday, too. wall street big wiggs gathering in saudi arabia for an investment form. is it still business as usual with the war escalating in the middle east? >> bill: michael cohen is back on the stand in donald trump's civil trial. his cross examination continues for a second day in a matter of minutes.ou know what's taking ag bite out of family budgets? car loans. get a newday 100 va cash out loan. own your car and have no more monthly car payments. this is spring semester at fairfield-suisun unified. they switched to google tools for education because there's never been a reported ransomware attack on a chromebook. now they're focused on learning knowing that their data is secure. >> good morning to you, bill. we're anticipating a committee hearing from the senate foreign relations committee in an hour here as the senate democrats on the compaty should have the votes to move lew out of committee to the senate floor acknowledged embattled senator bob menendez voting today. senate republicans as a minority can delay the process for another week. we wait to see if they'll do that in an hour. lew is facing stiff gop opposition because he helped ease the sanction on iran to curb nuclear ambitions with the iran nuclear deal with the obama administration. he called the deal a big milestone. today republicans blame the deal for all the iranian-backed chaos in the middle east. if republicans object today it could take another week for the committee to get his nomination to the floor and gop leader mitch mcconnell was asked about this and didn't give us a big sense of what they'll do today. >> will you be supporting the nomination to be ambassador of israel? >> back in israel where it may not be the safest place but at least the people around me are not calling for my death. >> dana: i think that's a distressing thing for us to hear. we want people like you to come here. raise your children here and have the opportunity and aspiration. but because of the fear and real concern you have you might consider leaving and not being here and that would be a sad thing for us. i understand your concern. if there is anything you would like those other students to know today i will give you the final word here to make your plea to them for tolerance and understanding and more education. >> the first thing that i want to say is that i am -- i cannot believe that any decent student at m.i.t. can actually justify raping women and beheading babies and i think that these people were disinformed and i just hope they will get the right information. and i hope that they will get -- that they will understand what the words that they are using mean and it is one thing for -- that i want to say to anyone, it is not a matter of being offended. it is a matter of our safety and the safety of my kids. the safety of the kids that i send, personally send to campus. i want my kids to be in a place where people are not cheering for their death. >> dana: thank you for sharing your thoughts with us today. i would love to stay in touch. thank you. >> what is the level of concern right now about the rise in anti-semitism in light of everything that's going on in israel? >> those perceived to be muslim have had a number of hate fooled attacks. >> white house press secretary karine jean-pierre on cleanup duty after some criticism over her response to a question about anti-semitism. yesterday she offered moral clarity on the subject at the white house briefing when she led off with this statement. >> i want to make something clear. i understand how important moral clarity is. when jews are targeted because of their beliefs or their identity, when israel is singled out because of anti-jewish hatred, that is anti-semitism. and that is unacceptable. >> bill: that was from yesterday. good for here to clarify the remarks. she shot out a tweet on monday evening saying she misheard the question. >> dana: no reporter in the room pressed her on it at the time and if she had misheard the question but they let it sit for a day. hopefully they will be on the right track. >> bill: john kirby followed that and she came back. the question didn't come up again to your point. >> dana: want to get you to this. donald trump's one time lawyer and fixer michael cohen returns to the witness stand in the president's civil fraud trial. fireworks during his first day of testimony and expect more of the same today. nate foye live outside the courthouse in new york city. hi, nate. >> so the cross examination of michael cohen is set to resume when court picks up here in just a couple of minutes now. former president trump i'm being told is just walking into the courtroom right now and i believe he is speaking. let's listen to him right now. >> it looks like that is going to happen. that will be a wonderful thing. i put out a clip today on him and did one last night so that we can get somebody who will be spectacular and maybe for many years to come he will be very good. we're very happy about that. on the trial here it is going very well. it is the biden witch hunt all comes down to d.o.j. to interfere with the election. our company turned out to be much stronger than anyone could have thought. the financial statements are much lower than the actual numbers. the actual numbers are much higher. we're in the process of proofing that. we have already proved it. they had the mar-a-lago valued at $18 million and working in coordination with the judge and we are worth approximately a 50 to 100 times the amount. a witch hunt. a bad trial. the only time -- doesn't give you a jury or anything. pure political witch hunt but we have the facts on our side so the company is much stronger than they anticipated. much stronger than anyone understood, a private company and nobody understood it. the assets have very little debt and a lot of cash. it's a great company and we're happy with the way it is going. it's a witch hunt, no question about it. getting back to congress, we think mike johnson will do really well. he is popular. he is smart, he is sharp. he will be fantastic. i think he will be a fantastic speaker. i believe that will happen. you will let me know when i come out. i'll be out in a couple of hours. [shouted questions] >> i've spoken to mark meadows many times over the years and strongly believes the election was rigged. of course, jack smith and the prosecutors go after somebody for years and say look, here is the story. we'll give you nothing, we'll -- you'll go to jail for ten years having done nothing wrong so a lot of people have to make that decision. some people would never make that decision. other people would. bu

destruction still raging today. later this afternoon president biden will hold his first news conference since hamas carried out the terror attacks and escalating threats from iran target u.s. forces in the region. a bunch of things moving on that front as we say hello. i'm bill hemmer. here we go today. >> dana: i'm dana perino and this is "america's newsroom." hamas terrorists also trying to infiltrate israel from the mediterranean sea and foiled by the israeli navy. a who's who of -- top officials of hezbollah, hamas and islamic jihad holding talks how to achieve total victory over israel. >> the pentagon revealing more than 14 attacks, one more than yesterday against u.s. forces based in the middle east in the last week. the white house trying to connect the dots saying all these militia and all these terror groups are working hand in glove with tehran. >> iran is certainly complicit here. without them there is no hamas or hezbollah, without them there is no militia groups firing rockets at our troops in iraq and syria. >> dana: republican congressman michael waltz is former green beret is standing by. let's go to mike tobin live in israel. good morning, mike. >> good morning, dana. hamas rockets have found a new target today. this is across the negev desert bordering with jordan and egypt on the red sea. significant because it has not been in reach of most rockets. a lot of israelis have gone there to get away from the rocket fire. you have hezbollah and hamas and now there is no place in the country that gets you out of the rocket fire. israeli military has released video of that infiltration attempt by sea. they described hamas divers attempted to swim and infiltrate a city north of the gaza border. israel detected them in the sea and killed the divers. at least two killed. they found tunnels they used to enter the sea, blew that up and hit a weapon facility. the situation in gaza grows more desperate by the day.
