a news conference for the forest time since hamas brutal attack on israel nearly three weeks ago. >> ainsley: comes as ant antony blinken -- >> brian: hostages are lobbying on capitol hill and demanding lawmakers did moray to bring their loved one home. >> steve: speaking of capitol hill. i'm in washington as louisiana congressman mike johnson emerges as new front runner in the race for house speaker. we could see a floor vote starting at noon today. we'll talk about that in just a moment. >> lawrence: overseas, middle east troops are attacked four times. >> brian: they forgot to tell us that. >> ainsley: israel face attacks on their northern border from lebanon and syria. >> brian: is anyone going to answer their attacks? trey yingst is on the ground in southern israel. hey, trey. reporter: hey, guys, good morning. we're following a number of developments in the re-on and a northern front and southern front is active inside the west bank and along the israel and gaza border we watched as israelis continued air strike against hamas and islamic jihad cells and the death toll is rapidly rising and more than 2,000 children have been killed seasons the conflict erupted 19 days ago. many of the strikes trying to take out the infrastructure and trying to take out israeli soldiers when they enter the gaza strip. last night, we were reporting along the border, you can see the flashing of light in the sky and small arms fire and you couldn't tell what was happening and israelis firing flares near the beach and two hamas tried to infiltrate through the mediterranean sea and both were killed along the boarder and gives you a sense hamas is trying to infiltrate into the country and firing rockets towards major population centers. i want to draw our attention to the north where there's bye bye bye yet another antitank guided missile attack and a lot of moving parts and the entire region is bracing that the possibility of the conflict unravels further and today we're get ago new statement by the national security adviser for israel thanking qatar saying i'm pleased kansas city chiefs far has become a central party and take holder in the humanitarian solutions. they're giving the qataris credit for getting four hostages out and trying to get as many out before this conflict escalates. >> ainsley: trey, tell us about the attack. israel, the navy, was able to attack the individuals from gaza that were exiting a tunnel. i'm reading they were intercepted by hamas divers. is that on the northern part of the map when we see gaza strip? there's a beach up there on the israel side? reporter: yes, that's the northern part of the gaza strip. that video was the israeli navy firing into the water. hamas has a unit called frog man and it's made up up trained scuba divers that are militants and they're armed and it's part of the way they initially tried to infiltrate into israel and they've been continuing that clearly. i want to give you an update here. my producer just handed me this in realtime right now saying there's sirens sounding north of hypha. that's the third largest city close to lebanon, and it's an indication that the fire is coming from southern lebanon or the factions inside gaza are launching long range markets and it's the sense that not just the southern and central part of the country is prepared for escalation and the north has to be ready and to go to bomb shelters when the sirens sound. >> steve: that's right. trashings the un secretary general called for a ceasefire to settle things down a little bit. i understand that apparently israel is denying un officials visas after the secretary of the united nations seems to deny the attack saying they don't happen in a vacuum and the israelis are saying it's time to teach the un a lesson. reporter: yeah, there's a lot of politics at play ahmed all of this and -- amid all of this and remember there's been a lot of moving parts to the story. there's a history to the story and how we got here today. it's critical to remember how this war started. state state queens tarted arount started around 6:30 a.m. when hamas crossed the israeli border and slaughtered thousands of people. what led to this and the blockade on the gaza strip, these are conversations that the ziti reallies will have and analysts that look at the situation and how we got here will have. but there's a war developing right now. 1 days in and it angered them and it's action unfolding over the past 24 hours. >> lawrence: trey, i'm curious, is there any update on the ground operation? i know we've been going back and forth on the reporting, who's telling who as it relates to the united states government to wait, telling israel to wait, what are job hearing on the ground because i was hearing from sources that guys on the ground are getting a little tired. reporter: soldiers are ready to go in but they've been taking the battle to hamas and they've been waiting for those orders and it's small preparation for training the reservist and training 360,000 of them and staging in the south and the north and it really points to the fact that the hostage negotiation is going on behind the scenes and the fact that the israelis and qataris are on the same page and trying to find solutions to get the civilians out of gaza. we should note and people behind us here, they are really an illustration of the southern part of the country. what you're looking at is a country of a battle that can understand that israel works to destroy hamas. the qataris are being clear and make this distinction about the soldiers involved in the fight and the civilians. they work to get all civilians out of gaza ask not just the israelis and foreign nationals but all and there's dozens of soldiers being held inside gaza and the sense is we're looking at information that we have and they tried to cut a deal to get as many civilians out of gaza before the ground operation starts and there's no conversation that we understand that are publicly being discussed to get the israeli soldiers out of gaza. >> brian: trey, thank you. we'll check in with you again. first, we've been targeted and everything is great. don't worry. one guy had a heart attack in syria. no big deal. by the way, the attacks and we have an option to defend ourselves and not trying to escalate the war and going out of his way saying we don't want a war with iran or china and they're antagonizing us in the region and only thing they understand is strength. donald trump showed you that and ronald reagan showed you that and if i'm a family member of a man or woman serving in syria, iraq, on a battleship, on a destroyer in yemen, i'm furious that i won't let my kids defend themselves how they've been trained in a region that only understands strength. a lack of response only invites more attacks. >> ainsley: this also happened last week. two things interesting i was reading this morning and phone lines. there were phone lines down in the spider web of tunnels and land lines like the old school land line phones installed in the tunnels in gaza to help plan the october 7 attack. the idf posted and it's a hamas fighter bragging to parents calling them mom, dad, i killed ten jews with my own hands. i killed her. i killed her husband. i'm using her phone to call you right now. dad says oh, my son, good bless you, he says, mom, your son is a hero. kill, kill, kill. >> lawrence: we're empowering terrorists by the lack of action. >> brian: this is a good moment for the family. muslims should gather and get the jews and hypocritical allies and it lies in the strength on the jihadist front. they don't look scared at all steve. >> steve: coming up in about 20 minutes, we're speaking to families and here on the roof of the borough overlooking the capitol and some of the hostages being held by hamas and they'll be here with us because they're up on capitol hill and they're going to congress later on today to go ahead and lobby for more support to try and find their loved ones. >> ainsley: you should hear their story, steve. i want to hear your interview with them. one guy, his sister, her husband, and three children were kidnapped. >> steve: whole family. everybody but him. terrible. >> ainsley: talk about what's happening with the house speaker. >> lawrence: todd is live with the details in studio. >> good morning to you all. house could vote on the new speaker and emerging with the gop nominee and house speaker and donald 128-129 yesterday and four house republicans voting for other candidates including kevin mctar think. johnson says the house is ready to govern after going three weeks a without a speaker. >> democracy is messy sometimes, but it is our system. this conference that you see, this house republican majority is united and i'm honored to have the support of my colleagues and what they understand about this is this is servant leadership. we're going to serve the people of this country. >> meantime, cnn reporter said republicans could consider a joint unity ticket with kevin mccarthy and former nominee for speaker house judiciary chair jim jordan and mccarthy running as speaker of the house and jordan would be considered "assistant speaker". when asked about it, the former speaker stayed silent. >> what's to this idea that you and mr. jordan are running on a joint ticket? >> no. >> what do you think? would you be for that? [inaudible]. >> mike would need a majority of 217 votes to win the speaker's gavel as potential government shutdown looms next month. mike colins sharing frustrations on the house speaker race with jokes and memes and he's holding some of them there in his hand and talking to steve next hour. we just had ronnie jackson, congressman, on our show a few minutes ago and he seemed very confident that mike johnson would be the house speaker, but we'll see. we've had a lot of people come on and say they're very confident and then we're currently in the mess. >> brian: thanks, todd. i've never seen a press conference like that after a closed door pressoconference that nominated someone. donald trump goes, yeah, that tom emmer. don't like him. rhino. get rid of hip. good-bye. so they went back and behind closed doors and mike johnson, he's looked at -- by the way, extremely -- that's tom emmer. that's mike johnson. louisiana, he's extremely bright and smart. he functioned on one of trump's legal team when is he was being impeached and a conservative, evangelical christian and recruiting to get signatures to overturn the 2020 election, which should please the president president and there's like 204 congressmen, republicans that when is everyone coming back? derrick is over in israel. got to get to 217 because hakeem jeffries has to have a complete team for him. looks like mike johnson will have the votes otherwise have to go back. >> lawrence: 10 moderate holdouts that don't want johnson at all. >> brian: the number 10? i heard just a handful. >> lawrence: yeah, 10 moderates that won't vote. >> ainsley: he got 128 votes but needs 217. how does he make up the difference? >> brian: they say he's got over 200. >> steve: what it comes down to, if he does not get e lekked speaker, game is over. elected speaker game is over for the most part. moderate republicans, i talk to some capitol hill staffers over dinner and moderate republicans will work with democrats and they'll make the speaker pro tem patrick mchenry the acting speaker and they can do business through the third day of january of next year. now, here's the thing. this actually works in mr. johnson's favor because if they can get to 217 or whatever number it is today, it'll be around there somewhere. the republicans will be able to do it without any help of the democrats and they won't owe the deputies anything and the republicans like that idea. >> lawrence: they've coordinated a deal with the democrats to get a speaker, not going to go over well with the votes. >> brian: if you're not going to get ewe man mouse or anonymous on anything, you're not on a team or alone. you deserve a coalition government and showing you can't lead. >> ainsley: watch outnumbered today and a lot happening in the 12:00 hour and the house is voting to reconvene on the speaker and joe biden having first press conference since october 7 and the israel attack. he's meeting with the prime minister of australia and they'll have a formal meeting in front of cameras at 12:30 and he'll take questions. >> brian: not seeing much of the host. the australian president is going to be online. >> ainsley: they'll do an awesome job introducing this and discussing it. >> steve: here's the thing, there's a stake dinner at the white house and screen right and interestingly enough. there was a note i saw this morning on the types of israel, it said that the featured performers for tonight's festivities are the b52s and that's a famous bomber and hire nthey're not going to be performing the military band providing entertainment for the big stage. at 1600. >> ainsley: i have one thing to say, tin roof, rusted. >> steve: the love shack. >> ainsley: that's right. >> brian: series of protests for palestine. >> ainsley: national day of action for palestine today. >> lawrence: all over the country. >> brian: 17 minutes after the hour, hostages remain captive and gazans live in poverty, the leadership of hamas is living it up in ritzy qatar, capitol of doe ha. they must expand and remove the group or pull them out. >> ainsley: war in the middle east sparking ties between the drug cartels and we'll explain the connection straight ahead. thanks to skyrizi i'm playing with clearer skin. 3 out of 4 people achieved 90% clearer skin at 4 months. and skyrizi is just 4 doses a year after 2 starter doses. serious allergic reactions and an increased risk of infections or a lower ability to fight them may occur. tell your doctor if you have an infection or symptoms, had a vaccine, or plan to. with skyrizi, nothing on my skin means everything! ♪ nothing is everything ♪ ask your dermatologist about skyrizi. learn how abbvie could help you save. this is american infrastructure. megawatts of power, rails and open road, and essential services of every kind. all running on countless invisible networks, making it a prime target for cyberattacks. but the same ai-powered security that protects all of google also defends the systems running america's infrastructure. for these services. for the 336 million of us living here. ♪ this isn't just freight. these aren't just shipments. they're promises. promises of all shapes and sizes. each, with a time and a place they've been promised to be. a promise is everything to old dominion, because it means everything to you. look who saved slider sunday again! here we go... a news conference for the forest time since hamas brutal attack on israel nearly three weeks ago. >> ainsley: comes as ant antony blinken -- >> brian: hostages are lobbying on capitol hill and demanding lawmakers did moray to bring their loved one home. >> steve: speaking of capitol hill. i'm in washington as louisiana congressman mike johnson emerges as new front runner in the race for house speaker. we could see a floor vote starting at noon today. we'll talk about that in just a moment. >> lawrence: overseas, middle east troops are attacked four times. >> brian: they forgot to tell us that. >> ainsley: israel face attacks on their northern border from lebanon and syria. >> brian: is anyone going to answer their attacks? trey yingst is on the ground in southern israel. hey, trey. reporter: hey, guys, good morning. we're following a number of developments in the re-on and a northern front and southern front is active inside the west bank and along the israel and gaza border we watched as israelis continued air strike against hamas and islamic jihad cells and the death toll is rapidly rising and more than 2,000 children have been killed seasons the conflict erupted 19 days ago. many of the strikes trying to take out the infrastructure and trying to take out israeli soldiers when they enter the gaza strip. last night, we were reporting along the border, you can see the flashing of light in the sky and small arms fire and you couldn't tell what was happening and israelis firing flares near the beach and two hamas tried to infiltrate through the mediterranean sea and both were killed along the boarder and gives you a sense hamas is trying to infiltrate into the country and firing rockets towards major population centers. i want to draw our attention to the north where there's bye bye bye yet another antitank guided missile attack and a lot of moving parts and the entire region is bracing that the possibility of the conflict unravels further and today we're get ago new statement by the national security adviser for israel thanking qatar saying i'm pleased kansas city chiefs far has become a central party and take holder in the humanitarian solutions. they're giving the qataris credit for getting four hostages out and trying to get as many out before this conflict escalates. >> ainsley: trey, tell us about the attack. israel, the navy, was able to attack the individuals from gaza that were exiting a tunnel. i'm reading they were intercepted by hamas divers. is that on the northern part of the map when we see gaza strip? there's a beach up there on the israel side? reporter: yes, that's the northern part of the gaza strip. that video was the israeli navy firing into the water. hamas has a unit called frog man and it's made up up trained scuba divers that are militants and they're armed and it's part of the way they initially tried to infiltrate into israel and they've been continuing that clearly. i want to give you an update here. my producer just handed me this in realtime right now saying there's sirens sounding north of hypha. that's the third largest city close to lebanon, and it's an indication that the fire is coming from southern lebanon or the factions inside gaza are launching long range markets and it's the sense that not just the southern and central part of the country is prepared for escalation and the north has to be ready and to go to bomb shelters when the sirens sound. >> steve: that's right. trashings the un secretary general called for a ceasefire to settle things down a little bit. i understand that apparently israel is denying un officials visas after the secretary of the united nations seems to deny the attack saying they don't happen in a vacuum and the israelis are saying it's time to teach the un a lesson. reporter: yeah, there's a lot of politics at play ahmed all of this and -- amid all of this and remember there's been a lot of moving parts to the story. there's a history to the story and how we got here today. it's critical to remember how this war started. state state queens tarted arount started around 6:30 a.m. when hamas crossed the israeli border and slaughtered thousands of people. what led to this and the blockade on the gaza strip, these are conversations that the ziti reallies will have and analysts that look at the situation and how we got here will have. but there's a war developing right now.
