the idf saying it has kill a senior ma ma a hamas commander in an overnight airstrike, ramping up attacks with troops and is heavy armor on stand job by. joey: the idf also dropping leaflets over northern gaza that read your presence north of gaza puts your life in danger. whoever chooses not to leave north gaza a to the south might be identified as an an accomplice in a terrorist organization. pete: israeli forces also carrying out strikes and raids in the west bank capturing another 27 hamas terrorists. rachel: this comes as the pentagon notifies more u.s. troops to be ready to deploy. defend secretary austin also announcing additional missile defense systems that are being sent to the region. joey: and the idf hitting several terror hubs overnight near the lebanon border as more than a dozen communities across northern israel are now under evacuation orders. pete: hezbollah saying it is right in the heart of the battle alongside hamas. hamas officials have warned if israel launches a ground offensive in gaza a, his bra will join the fighting -- hezbollah will join the fighting in the north. trey yingst is lye on the ground in israel with the latest. what do you have? >> reporter: hey, guy, gad morning. right now you can hear the buzz of an israeli drone overhead. israeli forces are picking out their next targets along the gaza a strip. they continue to hit different hamas positions, and we are learning overnight a deputy commander of the rocket launching unit from hamas was killed in an israeli airstrike overnight, a significant development as the leadership of hamas continues to be targeted by the israelis. we do know the death toll inside gaza has now reached more than 4600 people including civilians and militants alike. this all comes as anticipation is growing around that expected ground offensive to be conducted by israel into gaza had the next hours or days. the destruction along the border is significant and, again, the rocket fire into the southern and central part of israel continues. we brought to you last hour as those air raid sirens were sounding just to the southwest of jerusalem. i do want to draw your attention to the northern border where overnight the israelis conducted airstrikes in southern lebanon following her antitank guided missiles that were fired towards israeli positions, also rocket fire targeting northern israel and the evacuation of 12 more communities along the border, a real anticipation about a new front that would include ground operations there in lebanon and, of course, the west bank, that third front that is opening up. we saw earlier in the week a city was the site of an israeli strike, 13 palestinians killed. ask is overnight you can see that at a mosque there were reportedly hamas and islamic jihad fighters that were targeted in an israeli airstrike. guys? if. joey: trey, i have a question on this commander that was targeted and killed. we've seen many headlines of specific battleground commanders being targeted, being taken out in gaza. we hear that many of the leaders of hamas are in other countries. when we often the structure of hamas, i know with the taliban taking out a commander meant something sometimes because the lower level leaders didn't have the military training, deny have the larger scale plan. is hamas' structure that way, or are they structuredded more like us where if you take out a commander, somebody takes their place, battle keeps going? >> reporter: yeah, exactly, the latter. we have talked with people inside gaza before about the congressman structure of both hamas and islamic jihad, and i remember having this conversation back in 2019 when the israelis used a targeted assassination to take out an islamic jihad rocket commander. and i asked another commander in gaza what happens now, and he simply said we'll just replace him. joey: yeah. >> reporter: and that's exactly what takes place. when one commander's taken out, they will just replace him with a deputy. part of the reason israel wants to go in on the ground to take out the entire chain of command and destroy all of the a hamas and islamic jihad weapons. pete: trey, you've said for a while it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when, as far as the invasion into gaza, and that appears to be the case. let's take that as a given, that it's going to happen eventually, hezbollah has said if you go into gaza, we're getting involved. is it a foregone conclusion in your mind that this is going to be a two-front war no matter what? is there any way israel avoids a northern front when it goes into gaza? >> reporter: look, that's what the israelis are bracing for, not just two fronts, but many fronts. proxies in syria, yemen, are iraq get involved, even direct fire the from iran. but what we should note is sort of this unconventional idea, and it's something we've been asking officials about ask we're not getting a lot of information. obviously, this is very sensitive, what we're talking about. we do assume according to the people we've talked with there will be a ground offensive. there's nothing that indicates the israelis couldn't do another major strike first such as hitting hezbollah in southern lebanon before hitting gaza or even striking iran. all of these options are on the table as the israelis make a calculation about what the response will be. when you think about the warfare tactics in all of this, they may want to take out those units that are going to respond immediately in a place like lebanon, for example, first before entering gaza. are. rachel: trey, what do you know about the humanitarian crisis unfollowing in gaza right now in. >> reporter: -- unfolding? >> reporter: the humanitarian situation in gaza is catastrophic. remember, there are more than 2 million civilians that live inside the gaza strip. there are many vulnerable elderly people, women and children that are in desperate need of medical aid and food. and that's part of the reason that you saw aid trucks are entering the gaza strip yesterday, but it's not enough. and amid this conversation, the war that is taking place, it's critical that we distinguish between the palestinian people and the civilians and the groups like hamas and islamic jihad that launched this brute almas consider on october 7th. joey: trey, real quick -- rachel: i think that's a great point to make, thank you, trey. joey: before we let you go, we talk the about the leaflets that israel is dropping in gaza. is it feasible for peaceful civilians to get out before this grown invasion happens? -- ground invasion happens? >> reporter: yes. they've been given a lot of time to move south. and remember in those initial days we brought you the images here on "fox & friends," and we talked about this, how some areas were being blocked by hamas militants. since then we saw people getting how of their cars and simply walking. if they want to go south, they're getting south. they've had more than enough time according to israeli officials we've spoken with to get south, but still we should note there are thousands of civilians in gaza city. some people claim they don't is have the means to move, they say they are going to stay in their homes regardless. we've talked to a variety of citizens in gaza, and it's difficult because when especially older people are living in one place for a long time and they're told to leave, t t not as easy as just saying to leave. that's parking lot of what the israelis -- part of what the israelis are going to have to deal with, they're going to be engaged by militants and gunmen, but they're going to be fighting amid civilian areas, and the death toll will continue to rise. there the will certainly be pressure on the israeli government to keep the civilian count as low as possible, but we're looking at an incredibly complex story and war that's unfold thing here with many innocent lives in the crossfire. pete: hey, trey, real quirk staying on -- quick, staying on innocent live, yesterday there was some optimism because of the release of two american ohioages. any new information on the hostage front? >> reporter: yeah. we do have some new numbers. that number is ticking up. israelis say 210-212 people are currently being held hostage inside the gaza strip. and if i could just talk about a story that we're going to have later for you, this morning we traveled a bit north. the most north that we've within since this war erupted. we spoke with one man who grew up in a place that we reported from, a kibbutz along the border, and his brother was killed on october 7th, and his father was taken hostage. i asked about his father, and he said my father was a peace activist. he's a man of peace. and he actually helped gazan children to take them to israeli hospitals as part of a program. he was making art in protest of violence against palestinians, and yet these militants till dragged him into the gaza strip and are holding him hostage. and i think that gives you a sense of how indiscriminate those attacks were. they killed everyone they could and took as many hostage z z as possible. pete: we look a forward to that. i mean, we don't look forward to it, but that's the kind of thing we need to understand. trey yingst live on the ground in southern israel. rachel: excellent. thank you, trey. pete: no, that is the thing you have to remember as this all unfolds, is what happened on october 7th and how indiscriminate it truly was. it was just kill and maim as many people as possible. rachel: and torture. joey: if they're willing to do it once, they're willing to do it again, and that's the premise on which this entire war's unfolded. rachel: another aspect of the war that doesn't get enough attention is the role of china. so we know that in china there's a lot of online activity is and support of hamas, and many of it anti-semitic. we had a guest on, steven nosier, who i don't know anyone who knows more about china than steven, and he says that china is behind the scenes whether it's in the war in ukraine or here working with hamas and that they are stoking a new cold war. he says china is following the same playbook in the middle east that it did in russia. secretly encouraging an attack on a u.s. ally or potential ally and then promising to aid the aggressor behind the scene is. then when the attack happens, they loudly call for a negotiated settlement without mentioning that it was their partner who committed the barbarous act in the first place. so steven talked about chaos, that china's thriving on chaos, watching us being distract the, watching us get further into debt and many all these entanglements and hoping they can geopolitically benefit from it. pete: yeah. and you had a chance to talk to steven earlier in the program. here's more of what he said. >> two years ago ago hamas switched to electronic equipment made in china. they're now using that way -- huawei phones with a new operating system. the chinese were listening in because they're always listening in. the cyber attacks that took down the the defensive network in israel couldn't have been carried out by hamas or even iran. i think they got help from navy -- north korea, another proxy of china and china it. no one should think that china's ambitions are limited to just recovering the free democratic island of taiwan, because its ambitions are global. pete: yeah. rachel, to your point, china doesn't care about -- rachel: hamas? [laughter] pete: one bit. they're locking up muslims in their own country because radicals are seen as a threat to the regime. they only see another avenue by which america can be distracted and drained. you look at the war in afghanistan, in iraq, now tie us down in ukraine, tie us down here, get us completely focused on other enemies, and they'll use any chess piece they can on the globe. they've got hair own problems, lots of problems at home. and is joey, you mentioned that too, the demographics and other calculations they've got to deal with, but if they can tie us down, it's worth it. rachel: they play a longer game than we do, and i think that's really important. at the end of that interview, joey, stephen and i had a moment to talk about how difficult it is to handle all of these issues with china and just how kyiv devious -- devious they are and how they're scheming while we have a president at the same time who is compromised to the chinese. joey: we talk about china playing the long game, we're not playing today's game. we don't have is a speaker of the house. we have a president that, in my opinion, he's been consistent in support of israel, or but he's also spoken out of both sides of his mouth, and i don't appreciate that. letting the rest of the world know, hey, i hear you when you say you think israel is committing war crimes. i don't think that's how we enter if into a conflict that we're probably going to be dragged into in a more kinetic way. you don't tell that many of our guys and gals to be ready unless you anticipate getting dragged into it probably through the actions of hezbollah. so are we looking at the asian continent? fighting three different countries in three different can places? pete: and you look at the we competency of joe biden, you look at the speaker of the house, and it confirms what putin and xi jinping have been talking about, that our system is a failed system. ultimately, it's not sustainable financially, politically, culturally for reasons we'll show here in a moment and that autorat rah -- autocrats and missions like -- nations like that are the future. that is truly what they believe. and we can't get out of our own way reinforcing their own prophesy. the world with that guy in charge is a really, really dangerous place. and that guy too. and right now we're playing into with their hands by not having even a team on the field. rachel: yeah. i mean, i think this is a really, you know, we're talking a lot about, this entire show about this, you know, conflict in israel and gaza. this is a very dangerousing moment in america because i think china would like nothing more than for this to go large scale for america. pete: you can feel it. rachel: you can feel it. they want to get us drawn in, deplete our resources and do distract us from focusing on china, on xi jinping, on his, on his long-term, global domination plan. pete: they'll either do that or take the moment thousand to move on taiwan and say dare you to try to do four things at once. joey: the president sits there and goes, oh e, what we're sending is old tough that's been collecting dust, and we're going to replenish it with new. listen, you can't have too much for deterrence, for defense. it's been collecting dust because we haven't had to fight a war here at home. we haven't had to fight a conventional force for decades. that may change, and it could change overnight. and the idea that your response to concerns over depleting our own resources, especially the fence resources for -- defense resources for other wars, well, we weren't using it anyway. i mean, yeah, we weren't using it anyway because we had it and it deterred people from trying to attack us. that was such a terrible way to explain that, i was really bothered by that in his speech. ultimately, we do need to create new capabilities, how can you tell us we have enough for us? if. pete: yeah. and then you spend $60 billion more to do it all over again. rachel: right. there's $100 billion, but 600 billion of it went to ukraine -- 60 billion of it went to ukraine. unbelievable. so one of the things that china has been doing that plays into our next story, and it's probably the most effective thing they've done, is infiltrate our universities with so much of their, you know, marxist ideology. and that has created a lot of chaos which is what they thrive on, but also a lot of activists. and and many of them showed up, dozens arrested, by the way. this was here, i believe in -- pete: it was in brooklyn. rachel: yeah, brooklyn, new york. and some were arrested, buts this is, you know, these are massive protests. we had dov hikind on, a former new york city assemblyman. he used to be in the democrat party, then he switched to the gop because he felt like the democrat party left him behind as a jewish american. here's what he had to say about that. >> to think that there are people in our country, in our great country in america demonstrating, you know, in support of this isis organization, in this nazi organization called hamas is beyond comprehension. i wish to god some of them were beside me when i was walking into places where 30 children burned to death, where women's legs were broken, where a woman who was pregnant was cut up and her baby removed. i mean, this is -- believe me, whatever i'm saying to you, it is much worse with. and you have people, students demonstrating in support of hamas? what a freaking sick, sick world. rachel: what a freaking sick world. i've within saying that for a while, but -- pete: it's true. and we have, we have, and these protests, by the way, like this have been going on for a long time. it's just a whole other thing to ramp them up after you see the targeting of civilians in the most horrific of ways, and then you know that by protesting at that moment you are aligning yourself not with the arab cause or the palestinian cause, but with the hamas cause. you know specifically what you're doing, and that flag becomes code for something else. and it exposes the radicalism of the left and the marriage of convenience of protesters like this and other groups on the left who really just hate america, hate israel and would love to see its destruction. rachel: i wonder why they weren't more -- i mean, i guess there was a way to do a protest that this fundamentally, you know, called out as wrong what hamas did, you know, two weeks ago and then maybe showed sympathy for the palestinian cause. it's just shocking how the mask is off. they didn't really try to make that -- there was not a real effort to say we're not pro-a hamas, we're pro-palestinian. joey: look no further than members of congress to see that's just not what they believe. pete: that's why. joey: all right. we're going to have a lot more to say about all of this this morning. coming up, he were the first responders when hamas attacked. the story of bravery from israeli police, ahead. rachel: but first, still no house speaker. who's next in line?
