And that if israel does launch a Ground Operation in gaza, they will join in. Whether thats true or not, is not clear. Another possible goal would be simply to occupy Israeli Forces in the north to prevent them from joining the any operation in gaza. So were really watching and waiting right now as both sides struggle with an operation that could lead to a second front something which has been incredibly deadly and incredibly destructive in the past the last time hezbollah and israel fought was back in 2006 that was a 34day war and it really left the country of lebanon reeling. Billions of dollars in damage major portions of Southern Lebanon, simply rubbled by israeli air power. So theres a risk for israel. If hezbollah enters it is a powerful force, its backed by iran. They have Tens Of Thousands of rockets. They have fighters who have on the Ground Experience in syria. But it is also a risk for hezbollah. Israel could potentially destroy the nation of lebanon by counterattacking any hezbollah strikes in israel. Back to you julie. How much do you believe hezbollahs involvement in this and striking and Firing Missiles to the northern section of israel can have on the Ground Invasion because there was word of a Ground Invasion beginning over a week ago and now here we are with israel now striking from two different points in the state, it is very tricky now and they could be run very thin. If they have fight both these wars at the same time. Steve, we look at lebanon and what hezbollah offers as a threat and we go back to the 80s, hezbollah has been around since early 80s and as we look at at the threat that hezbollah poses, do we find ourself in a place to where they may be the greater threats to American Forces this is something that, i mean, remember the beirut bombings in 1983, and they say theyre a heavier force well armed is this perhaps the part of a war here that gets america even more engaged or has a bigger threat to america . It certainly is a scary thought youre right to point out those bombings. The anniversary of which is coming up this monday. Really the start of what many people think were global terrorists mass attacks that bombing here in lebanon. And youre right also to point out hezbollah increased strength. Even on Valli Official pointed out that hezbollah has opponent as a foe is more than ten times greater than hamas so two very different things. This is an operation with Battle Hardened fighters this is an operation funded, supported trained by iran and this is an operation really with more than 150,000 missiles. These are long range missiles, these are long rage rockets, theyre really can reach anywhere in to israel so et threat for them as a Military Force is a serious one. 34day war back in 2006, it is hard to see an offramp at this point. How they can avoid joining the fight. Hey steve it is griff quick question here about the threat to american citizens in lebanon do we know how many are there and has the emcee staff evacuated youre there, obviously, but presumably there are others there. Yeah weve seen warnings from the u. S. And from multiple countries basically saying to leave now. And also concerns about the airport a lot of Major International carriers have already shut down flights it is hard to get insurance for flights. So the only way out if youre a westerner really and get on a boat now is to fly out of this airport because of where you are geographically. You know, you cant go through syria and cross border through israel so you could really get stuck here and keep in mind that antiamerican sentiments we saw real attacks on the u. S. Embassy so certainly an antiamerican sentiments could ratchet it up you have to remember where you are, who is running this country, and who you are, the danger level is you dont feel it right now but that could certainly change. Steve you mentioned who was running the country of lebanon and technically there is a government that is separate from hezbollah and the United States has spent billions of dollars over the decades trying to prop up that government to be a blunt towards hezbollah. Are you hearing negative from the local government about their efforts to tamp down what is simmering now and preventing from becoming a widespread problem especially given that you mention israel has the ability to completely destroy the country . I think theres a real hesitation from both sides not only from the government which is weak right now this was a place where the currency is pretty much in free fall where 80 of the people are living below poverty line. But also from hezbollah as well. They have gained considerably in power in stature and in strength. Since that war in 2006, a massive counterattack by israel would crush everything theyve built here since then.
