[applause] >> lawrence: i will send it to you all in new york. >> steve: a lot of football talk on this thursday morning. that's great. check back in with lawrence. and lawrence is going to have a special guest with him there, live at norma's in about five minutes. >> brian: big thing is lawrence already knows, don't talk to mascots, they don't talk back. >> steve: that's why he is just pointing. >> brian: a lot of times you forget and talk to them they are not allowed to talk. >> ainsley: we would be terrible mascots we get paid to talk. >> ainsley: you would ruin it. >> brian: or my mouth. >> ainsley: your neck. >> steve: a.i. is probably working on mascots that talk. you watch. they will come up with it. it's great that you would join us 7:03 in the east. we start today's hour with today's cover of the "new york post" which reveals the federal government spent $3.3 billion on unrine in temperature during covid. >> ainsley: the splurge spanned across most teleworking and employees at home. relevant as we are hurdling toward november 17th deadline to pass appropriations bills and fund the government and we look at the excessive spending highlighted in the article this morning. department of defense topping the list $1.2 billion in purchases, mostly of furniture-spending. the department of veterans affairs spent nearly $500 million and list goes on department of justice, department of state. homeland security treasury. health and human services. some purchases included things like solar paneled picnic tables. that was at the cdc. the state department paid more than $117,000 for 40 ethan allen leather reclining chairs that was at its pakistan embassy. the defense advanced research project's agency spent nearly $250,000 on high end her man miller furniture and opened the books, which is this organization that put together the report initially noted that the department of defense's furniture spending also remained higher than other agencies when accounting for pre-pandemic spending with the pentagon notching 2.1 billion in purchases between 2018 and 2022. some agencies respondented to the request for comment like the va. they argued that the vast majority of their workers were not teleworking during the pandemic. also, the bengals benefit benefit corporation told the post that the agency had moved to a new headquarters in 2022 because of a lease expiration. the president stressed in his state of the union that year that it was time for america to get back to work and fill our great downtowns again with people but reports show that his administration is having a tough job cutting down on teleworking despite all of these spending levels. the house budget committee chairman jodey arrington responding to this report calling it excessive and, also explained the use it or lose it policy encourages unnecessary spending because these agencies are penalized instead of rewarded for not spending all of their year-end budget. this is just one of the many perverse incentives that drive irresponsible spending in the nation's capital and it has to stop. of course the spend something going to be a hot topic all the way through the next few weeks leading up to the expiration of the government funding, guys. >> brian: that's so interesting, jacqui. with the pentagon that was one of the complaints is if we don't use all our money in the branches we will not get more next year. they find a way to spend it instead of incentivizing people not to spend it. same way with these agencies. >> that's what it looks like. and apparently, in at least one instance, it involved a whole lot of very nice chairs. >> steve: jacqui, also, thank goodness, they have the solar powered picnic tables. i looked this up. and do you know what it does? if you watch gone with the wind. look at the drapes. >> steve: funny thing was on carol burnett on her show came out in the op-ed with the drapes. she had the curtain rod right there across her shoulder. >> brian: i thought it looked great. >> ainsley: all three of us are correct. >> brian: we know a lot about drapes. >> ainsley: first move a cuss word was said in. >> brian: i wasn't okay with it. i remember protesting that. >> steve: i didn't give a damn. meanwhile, let's talk some politics. a brand new q. poll looks at the state of pennsylvania. and keep in mind, this is the home state of joe biden. and look at that right now. it's within the margin of error. they are essentially tied. what is interesting about this. and if you look at the other things they polled people on, bob casey, who is the current u.s. senator, he is a democrat from pennsylvania. is he leading dave mccormick by 6 points. casey is actually out performing joe biden and it's the support of the independents who are helping mr. casey. just goes to show you that it is essentially tied at the top of the ticket when it comes to the president. >> ainsley: they also looked at the republican rivals and trump is ahead. number two in that state in pennsylvania is ron desantis. number three is nikki haley, but it's different than that in the state of new hampshire when republican -- when they asked if the republican primary for president were held today, who would you vote for or toward whom do you lean at this time? trump number one. 49%. but look at this nikki haley is number two now. she is ahead of almost double ron desantis. >> brian: chris christie dropped in the latest poll. i guess this is the "boston globe" suffolk university poll has 500 people. i think it's important to point out that ron desantis is going all n iowa. is he moving his entire headquarters to iowa. so it's going to be tough. i guess he is doing a tactical move if i win iowa i will close the gap in new hampshire because in south carolina it doesn't look promising because of look who is in south carolina the president is a monster in south carolina. he has the governor's endorsement. the former governor is on the ticket. very popular senator is on a ticket. interesting strategy but trump is still winning by a lot there. and he is still winning in iowa. keep in mind, he lost michigan, pennsylvania, wisconsin, georgia, and arizona last time which he won in 2016. >> steve: sure. >> brian: georgia is he polling better, arizona polling better and now in pennsylvania is he polling better. >> steve: what is stunning about what is going on in new hampshire, in january, ron desantis was beating donald trump. and now ron desantis has fallen into third place and donald trump way ahead but nikki haley is surging predominantly from her performance in the debates. meanwhile, let's talk a little bit about this. some of the top people in the administration, a guy who runs the department of justice and the department of homeland security and ourselves all going to mexico to talk to their counterparts about fixing the border. because it's a problem. they just woke up and apparently somebody turned on fox news. hey, did you know this is a problem? >> ainsley: they are heading down to mexico today to talk about migration and arms trafficking and fentanyl with the leader of mexico. it's merrick garland. it's mayorkas, secretary of state blinken and few other biden administration officials. there is acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads to prevent unlawful entries. that shocked everyone because, remember when biden ran saying i will not construct a border wall. we will not continue the wall. it's just a sharp contrast but lawrence pointed out in the first hour of the show, he said that was their talking point when they were running, we are not going to build the wall. and now we are facing another election year and they are changing their tune because everyone is talking about the border problem. and if you watch the other networks, if you talk to democrats, they realize now it's a crisis. >> steve: talking about it at the white house. >> brian: waiting for the september numbers to come n august. 181,000 plus arrests. they said we have this app. thing now. and if you come to the border without getting an okay from the app. we will turn you right around. i don't know what happened to that. nobody is getting turned around. the ice facilities are virtually totally empty. and people are being bused into the major cities now. it's so bad in chicago. and i can't believe they can't handle 15,000. that's a week for news new york. that's two days in eagle pass and the border cities. but they are now having their democratic mayor go down to the border. our democratic mayor is going to four separate central and south american cities including mexico city. and now we realize two things. when they get here how do we block them and how do we organize them? number two, why don't we stop them from coming here. now the attorney general, now the secretary of state is going. but are they going and going to say if you don't stop it, tariffs, if you don't stop it, you lose your aid. and are they listening to saying why are they coming? what is it with the american border policy that makes them think this is the time to come? as venezuela empties their prisons, cubans desperate to get here. and they claim the mexican president says it's america's fault for hitting -- hitting sanctions on cuba and venezuela. really? we have had them since the 1960s. venezuela they went on because of what they were doing there. also, welcoming china and russia. >> steve: we just saw mayor adams the guy who was the top executive here in new york city in mexico city yesterday. and essentially what he was saying is there is no capacity. don't come. there is no room at the inn, don't do it. the white house has also said don't come, but people come. yesterday, our correspondent in the briefing room asked this great question of the press secretary. >> governor of illinois has written to president biden to say the federal government's lack of intervention and coordination at the border has created an untenable situation for illinois. does anybody outside of the white house think the immigration policy is working? >> so here's what i can tell you. i just mentioned that the president requested $4 billion for supplemental funding to address what we're seeing at the border. right? and to manage what is happening currently at the southwest border more specifically. and republicans continue to block us. >> brian: they just think it's money. it's not a matter of money. >> steve: and the law. got to change the law. >> brian: only 62% of this country -- only 62% disapprove of the policy. by say i had a plan walked in office. have you ever talked on it and given a speech. have you printed it? have you shown it's comprehensive? all you are talking about predone habitually getting the people came here illegally a path to citizenship. >> they created this crisis. they ignored it. you had abbott down in texas begging for more help. telling them to close the border. then he had this grand idea to send some of these individuals, because texas can't handle it all to these democratic cities. then all of a sudden those democratic leaders start waking up and they say whoa, this is happening here. we can't afford. this we don't know who these individuals are. and they could be dangerous. we don't have the money to house them. and we can barely take care of the people who live in new york. much less people who are here illegally. then all of the sudden they sound the alarm. now they are going down to the border and doing something about it. well, all these democratic leaders are the ones who allowed it to happen for the last three years and they are the reasons we have this crisis. >> steve: right here in new york. new york is a border state. because there are so many people come in. but so is texas. and that is where lawrence is all morning. and you have got a special guest who looks familiar. >> lawrence: yeah, i don't even know if is he a guest. is he part of the "fox & friends" family. will cain, folks. >> will: good morning. >> steve: will, good to have you. >> ainsley: i thought of you when we saw the cowboy's mascot and that's your team. >> brian: that's what he does on weekends? [applause] >> steve: there you go. he is still not talking. just clapping. all right, guy, what are folks talking about out there? >> lawrence: they are definitely talking about the border and how it ask impacting communities. i was just thinking about it. we have historic crisis at the border. and the democrats are proposing more visas, more places for them to stay. it just seems like they are creating more of a magnet for the folks to come here instead of clogging up the big hole that they created, will, with their policies. >> will: yeah, steve, brian, ainsley, amazing to seat democratic mayors across the country begin to change the tune on immigration. come to one conclusion, a major level, i'm talking a major level of incompetence for the past several years that resulted in these policies being something producing something that these mayors are all of a sudden waking up to. this is untenable. or, those not in on the plan. because i have trouble accepting the fact that the incompetent tense was at that level. so you execute a plan. you open the borders. you allow these people to come in illegally and now looking at the repercussions i think it's a product of intentionality. >> lawrence: what do the people think? let's go talk with some folks. how are you all doing? so, ma'am, we have got two parties that have had their opportunity to handle the border. you had donald trump that handled the border. and now you have got the biden administration. which party is more fit to handle the border? >> definitely donald trump. because i'm from down there. and i have seen those walls, those pieces of walls that just let deteriorate? >> lawrence: how did it make you feel. >> sickening. my money, my taxpayer money they are using letting it sit and not doing anything. 20 miles of border give me a break. what's that going to do? they will just go around it. >> lawrence: what do you think, ma'am? >> i feel the same way. i heard he already sold the border wall, didn't he? >> lawrence: some of those pieces? >> some of those pieces already. now is he doing it again. i hate that man. >> began ba back 14 votes i did not see from him. the willingness to fight using every tool at our disposal in the minority radicalized agenda. i was concerned that we would continue to pass failures when we had the house majority we pass our major spending bills with democratic votes. something democrats never have done. that was a repeat of what we saw happen this year. in addition to failing to cut spending 2024 pre-covid levels that he promised to do. speaker mccarthy and deliver our bills to the house floor for a vote. all 12 of them before the deadline we didn't do that we didn't bring a balanced budget to the floor to vote on as promised would do. the debt ceiling we totally caved to the democrats on the debt ceiling. we gave unlimited increase to the debt ceiling through january of '25. tag our national debt from at that time 32 trillion to what will probably be 36 trillion by the time we get to january of 25. he did that with predominantly democrat votes. most recently the continuing resolution that kept in place, again, the biden, pelosi, schumer policies and spending levels that are destroying and bankrupt the country for another 45 days getting nothing for the american people and doing that ainsley with 209 democrat votes to one in the house and 51-0 in the senate. we just -- the country cannot afford that we need a fighter. we need a leader who will get something for the american people with the majority control that we have in the house. >> ainsley: i think the majority of americans were shocked to this. it did take 15 votes to get that too that point. speakership look at it. quickly and republicans weren't expecting this to happen. a few days ago. what has been the reaction from your constituents? because lawrence is in texas, is he at the diner. news of the day. sick of broken promises and they like the shakeup. >> overwhelmingly positive from the district. certainly not as positive from the media or the elite class. the donor class. the k street and wall street lobbyists and that sort of thing, from the district overwhelmingly possible. the american people want somebody that is going to fight to secure the border. going to fight to cut the inflation by cutting our spending and hopefully bringing interest rates down, going to fight who told accountable mayorkas. mayorkas back before he became speaker and we haven't heard that again. someone who will defund homeland security because it's not securing our border. someone hold christopher wray and merrick garland accountable for what they are doing. >> ainsley: sorry to interrupt you. we are almost out of time. who do you sees a the best candidate. >> the great news is we will have a contest, a competition, not a coronation. it will be truly a reflection of the 218, hopefully 221 unanimous republican conference. we look for the vetting, challenging, testing these candidates and have a great forum on tuesday night. and hopefully soon come together and we will all have a vested interest in that speaker and his and her success because the country needs them to be successful. >> ainsley: we change the motion to vacate so it takes more than one person?
