This is a group about House Republicans, some of them relatively knew to the chamber who have not remembered what happened in the number of different occasions republicans lacking the votes to pass something they wanted done or some republicans, i should say resorted to a threatened or actual Government Shutdown to try to use as leverage to get what they wanted. Two things have happened in those instances. One, they didnt get what they wanted. And the second is the public turned out not to like the shutdowns and the republicans got blamed. People want the Government Cut down. Supreme say that all the time. You look at polls, yes, the government is too big and all of that. They want it cut down and they dont at this point in time shut down and when it happens, they dont like it. Its a fool hes errand and, yet, these guys are going to try this again, consider what he what they are doing here, bret, where mccarthy is concerned. Mccarthy, in the end, because he didnt have unanimity in his caucus, relied on democratic votes to pass a bill that simply funds the government at current levels with some funds left out for 45 days so they can negotiate further how to pass a larger package. They propose to file a motion to declare the speakership vacant and this would rely on, yes, you guessed it, democratic votes to pass. Does that sound like cynicism and hypocrisy to you . Governor pritzker in illinois today wrote a letter to President Biden about this calling for more support from the administration. But, at the same time, with ukraines funding on the line, there is question if they are going to get the sort of support that they need and if President Biden is going to push that over the line. Is he supposed to be talking with some of his allies to assure them that they can actually get the support that they want. Bret the pentagon is already warning you that they are running low to be able to replace u. S. Troops, weapons and material. It is a crisis in ukraine. And the Biden Administration has done a terrible job explaining the National Interest of the United States and funding the ukraine resistance. Thats just a horrible job. If russia were to previolate they would control 30 of the worlds wheat production. Have you never heard the president make that argument. It is unfortunately true that half of the diselings is now opposed to ukraine if any salvation from republicans is going to come, it will come from the senate side where thankfully from, my point of view, there remains a Strong Majority in favor of ukraine funding on the republican side. Bret meantime former president in court again. The new york a. G. s office says the former president committed persistent, illegal acts as civil fraud. This trial is beginning. Donald trump was in the courtroom monday for the beginning of the 250 million Civil Fraud Trial brought by new York Attorney Generals Office against the former president. His company and two of his children, a case that could have widespread implications for the former president s businesses. He talked at length about this case. Take a listen. This is a continuation of the single greatest witchhunt of all time. We have a rogue judge who ruled the Properties Worth it 100th a tiny fraction of what they actually are. We have a racist Attorney General who is a horror show who ran on the basis that she was going to get trump before she even knew anything about me. Bret we are told, guy, by his folks that he is going to appear in court again tomorrow morning, likely same time and likely speak again. This politically seems to be something he wants. This case is really raises some eyebrows. Yeah. So i think he makes a fair point. The two new york trials, i think are highly political. And there is a shadow cast over this civil trial because the woman who brought the trial who brought this challenge campaigned against trump and is now following through on a campaign promise, which is not how this type of thing really should work. I think trump is more than happy to show up in front of the cameras and have his say. He feels like he is fighting back, which he likes to do. Also, it will help him among Republican Voters. We saw after the last Republican Debate or the first Republican Debate he turned himself in the very next day. The mugshot comes out. He returned to twitter a huge amount of detention and he went up in the polls. I think, again, he wants to make sure he remains comfortably ahead and reminding Republican Voters who they are rallying around and how this is all unfair that plays for him in the primary. Bret the aggrieved party here. They talk about banks. They all got paid on time and made money. There is no bank thats saying i have a real problem with this. And, yet, so thats the tough part for the Attorney General and the judge, it seems. Yeah. And thats something that trump and his allies have continued to bring up, too. That the banks themselves have raise nod issue with this. As guy was saying, trumps team, i talked to them today they feel like today was a win for him politically. Its not only that trump gets to make his case to the public. We saw him on tv constantly, but he is also continuing to suck the oxygen out of the room for the other republican candidates. Bret part of this is evaluation, maralago 18 million this judge also a it. Maybe for a tennis court. Bret, i represented Real Estate Developers for 25 years before i retired. This judge who is appraisers it is absurd. Is he being persecuted in new york and the manhattan d. A. Case that guy referenced. Its ha the additional benefit of being true in this case. The more he goes to new york the better off he is. Those are nonsense cases brought to destroy a political opponent of the Democratic Party representing both of the people who brought the cases. George washington is the subject of my newest book to rescue the constitution. George washington showed up at Continental Congress in his military uniform, even though independence hadnt been declared it was clear that there needed to be a military. We must act now. Let us declare our independence. Everybody was looking around for a leader and there was George Washington. Congress appoints him the head of the army. The fate and the future of this nation rested on his shoulders. The Continental Army struggled through the early years of the war and without any major victories they had lost spirit. General washington knew something bold needed to happen. We cannot hold this position. What he decides is that there needs to be quick action to assert American Authority and get a victory that might sustain morale through the conflict and so thats his decision to cross the delaware. The daring mood changed the tied of the war. Victories at trenton and princeton convinced the Continental Army that the british could be beaten. Americans realize we can still win victories. The cause is not lost. But the hard times would be far from over as washington and his troops spent the cold harsh winter of 1777 encamped at valley forge. Despite a shortage of supplies and an outbreak of small pox, valley forge also brought opportunity. Valley forge is this transformational moment because they had the time to start training, to start adopting european practice. Bret meanwhile, an optimistic Continental Congress adopted the articles of confederation,laying out how the nations new government would work. Now, the only thing that stood in the way of freedom was british surrender. The decisive showdown came in york town, virginia in 1781. [explosion] he waited for the right chance to make the attack that would ultimately in the capitulation that would shock the world, the british surrendered to the Continental Army september 2 th, 1781.
