She says he overvalued his property when he estimated his different real estate holdings. The former president insists hes done nothing wrong. Watch this. Its a disgraceful trial put forward by an Attorney General that is corrupt. We have murders going all over the city, all over the state at a record level. Its an epidemic and their waste their time on this with banks. They got all their money back. Donald trump and other defendants have committed fraud. Justice will prevail. The state has called their first witness in this trial. Former President Trumps old accountant, a man by the name of donald bender. After the morning session, former President Trump had choice words for new York Attorney general Letitia James calling her corrupt and he continued to voice his displeasure with the judge in this case, Justice Arthur engeron, a democrat that former President Trump said is mischaracterizing him. Were going to be here for months for a judge that already made up his mind. Its a democratic judge and its ridiculous. Former President Trump appears very serious while the justice is seen smiling and shrugging. This is a nojury trial, which means the justice will have sole discretion in punishing trump for fraud. He ruled last week that trump and his adult sons as well as others fraudulently overvalued their property and during Opening Statements today, the state argued trump and others routinely filed false financial records. But trumps attorney said the records were in fact accurate. Attorney general james filed the lawsuit last year. Shes seeking a 250 million fine and severe restrictions that would limit trump and his familys ability to conduct business in the state of new york. She also claims the former president lies about his net worth. My message is simple. No matter how powerful you are or how much money you think you may have, nobody is above the law. Today in court, trumps attorney reminded everybody of what you said in your intro, martha. That Attorney General james campaigned on going after trump, which is what were seeing in the court today. I think so much of this sort of gets lost in the valium of all of these cases. In the american judicial system, at each case is separate and we have to look at this one right now in terms of the validity of it. So you hear what Letitia James is saying there, matt. Id like to start with you. Shes talking about power, money. Shes saying no one is above the law. In this case, theyre saying that the trumps inflated the value of their Real Estate Properties a, so that they could be higher up on the forbes wealthy list and b, they say they misrepresented it to bankers and insurers, neither of which are declaring to an injured party what is this about . This is about kicking donald trump and his family out of new york. They dont want their business. They want to take away their right to do business. They want them to liquidate all of their assets. I think about a yearly statement that is submitted to the bank or to Insurance Companies of illliquid assets where a bank can do an appraisal, they can reject that, assign a value themselves. I think this whole case just seems like a really vindictive attempt by the Attorney General in new york to kick trump out of New York State. Martha i think it does. I think it shouldnt matter whether you approve of the former president or want to vote for him or dont want to vote for him or ever want to see him as president again. How many Real Estate Companies in New York City do you think have overvalued or overestimated their the worth of them and who gets injured who is hurt . Who is the victim in this case . I cant see that. Well, theres not one, martha. I was a state a. G. For eight years. This is what i did. You never go after someone, first of all, if no one else is complaining and theres not a victim, an alleged victim. Here if youre going to look for a victim, if youre going to look to evaluate the cost of assets, you look to the experts. Who are the experts here . The banks that loaned donald trump the money. Theyre not complaining about this at all. They actually got paid back and got paid back some early. They all made money on it. Theyre not complaining at all. As an Attorney General, martha, youre not only the top legal officer but the top Law Enforcement officer in the state of new york. Shes sitting in the front row of that courtroom today when theres a missing 9yearold little girl in upper state new york and i will give Governor Hochul credit for this, shes out at the scene and thats where the Attorney General of the state should be instead of sitting in the courtroom. No business is going to want to do business in this new york with this precedent shes setting. Its horrible for new yorkers. Martha the way the banks and the Insurance Companies do this, they have their own evaluators. They look at it. Its not like theyre taking someones word for it. Oh, this property is worth 125 million. They say no, its not. These are the other comparables on that property. Thats how this works. Its a very strange thing to focus on. The judge who laughed i think we have a video of him smirking and laughing. There he is. Smirking and laughing. Oh, hes on camera now. Then he says the rest of this will not be on camera. There was a short part that they did put on camera. Heres Letitia James in 2018 saying were going to sue him if she becomes Attorney General. Watch this. One name. Donald trump. Whether or not this is what we expect from the judicial system. This is one of the prime examples of the two tiered system of justice. As a Law Enforcement officer, someone sworn to protect and defend the constitution of the state and the country, you cant direct the awesome Police Powers of the state against one individual. At the same time, you know, the judge who granted summary judgments, essentially said that President Trump and all of these other defendants are guilty last week is essentially saying that maralargo, which is one of the premier properties,s been there several times, so has pam, it is really priceless to some extent. Its historically an important place in the United States. Its one of the few places that spans the intracoastal and the ocean on the east coast. So i look at that being valued at 18 million. Most americans would pay 18 million if given that chance to buy that. Its worth so much more. Martha this is one of the most expensive real estate markets in the world. Were looking at a shot of maralargo. You can pay 18 million, not that most of us could or would, but for like a three Bedroom House in palm beach. Youd never get maralargo for 18 million.
