sending an official instead. >> sandra: as relations between the u.s. and the communist nation has been rocky despite a series of visits from the biden administration this summer. >> john: china's spying campaign is reportedly ramping up in the united states. a new wall street journal reveals more than 100 instances of chinese nationals posing as tourists to breach u.s. military sites. the alarming report. >> sandra: first white house correspondent peter doocy, live in the briefing room. so, xi jinping is opting out. we are about to hear from jake sullivan. set to preview the president's trip, peter? >> yeah, and sandra, president biden said over the long weekend he's disappointed xi is not going to show up at the g20. the folks you talk to around here say the president means he is disappointed. they had a nice meeting in indonesia on the sidelines of the summit there, and a couple months later there are spy craft over the u.s. and things have not been so good. and the president will see him, although we are told there is no plan for biden and xi to get together at the g20. so, that's going to make it a lot easier for china not to make a big commitment to the climate change goals, and no questions about the wall street journal story on the so-called gate crashers, reports of 100 or so chinese nationals posing as tourists and trying to get into sensitive u.s. military installations. president biden tested negative for covid even though he was at the beach house with the first lady, she had a positive test, and 73% of voters say they think president biden is too old to go for a second term, including two-thirds of democrats. some of that for the press secretary, some for the national security adviser who will be here in 15 minutes. >> sandra: we'll be watching for that. holler when all of that is underway, peter, thank you so much. >> john: peter mentioned new spy concerns surrounding china as we learn about chinese nationals posing as tourists to breach the military and other sites. how many times, eric, has this allegedly happened? >> john, as peter just said about 100 times, the chinese infiltration of the country reaching alarming levels, the chinese nationals caught time after time after time at or near the military bases. the wall street journal reporting they claim they are visitors, they are often saying they are trying to find the nearest burger king or mcdonald's, near or at military sites, alleged ploys also include making reservations at hotels on military bases. such as what happened they say at fort wainwright in alaska, or walking across a missile range in new mexico, or scuba diving near a rocket site in florida. mike gallagher, chair of the select committee on the chinese communist party says chinese citizens here in our country are being pressured by beijing to do this. >> the key challenge for the u.s. intelligence community is the sheer numbers involved. the amount of people that china is willing to throw at the problem. the amount of people beyond actual mss, china's lead spy agency operatives, they co-op normal citizens. >> fbi says the chinese government is engaged in a broad diverse campaign of theft and maligned influence without regard to laws or international norms the fbi will not tolerate. fbi is committed to protecting our national security and the department of defense telling fox news that it is protecting our military facilities from such threats, but you know the chinese embassy in washington, the chinese officials tell fox news that these claims are fabrications, and says the u.s. officials should abandon what it claims is washington's cold war mentality. a lot more to go on this story. >> john: not much of a surprise with that statement. eric, thank you. it is rather distressing that biden will not meet with xi jinping on the sidelines at the g20, it's pretty clear that relationships are at an addhere these days and leader to leader meeting would be beneficial. >> sandra: considering the chinese news at home, see if anything changes by the time the president takes off for the trip. surely get an update when jake sullivan takes to the podium a few minutes from now, john. >> there is no quit in america. none. all i hear from my friends from the other side they say is wrong with america. they tell us america is failing, they are wrong. when the last guy was here you were shipping jobs to china. now we are bringing jobs home from china. the great real estate builder, the last guy here, he didn't build a damn thing. >> sandra: president biden calling out his predecessor during the labor day speech while touting bidenomics, says it's working. but poll after poll show americans are not buying it. martha maccallum, we want to cheer on the american economy, we agree on that, we want people to prosper and thrive and also our job to cover the economy as it is. seems to be this continued disconnect from what the white house is touting as great economic successes of our time and the latest shoe to drop is these defaults on credit card and car loans. we know interest rates are going up, more and more people are using their credit cards to buy everyday items and as that is happening, and i feel like martha and you tell me if you've heard it as well, a lot of the economists have held out and said the economy is resilient, it's doing ok in the face of all this. they said watch the credit card debt and car loan defaults. they are ticking up and hitting ten-year high, credit card, 4% default. >> martha: whenever all the economist, and you know this well, are heading in one direction, i look for the outlier people and they are out there. this is the thing they're pointing to is this credit card debt. this is what is unprecedented in prior periods of high inflation. i think as a country we become used to putting things on credit cards in a way prior generations did not do. they would live on what they had. so what we are seeing is people not willing to do without certain things, according to these credit card numbers over 1.3 trillion, i think, with credit card debt number, completely unprecedented. so now the rubber is hitting the road. can't make the payment on the car, can't make the payment on the credit card and i think it's a scary moment to watch for the u.s. economy as this unfolds. it's interesting the president is doubling down on bidenomics, despite the fact the numbers show that 59% disapprove of how he's doing on the economy. not only accepted the bidenomics label, he's embracing it, going out there talking to blue collar workers who have indicated they don't feel the economy is getting better and telling them they should feel it's getting better. >> sandra: and 58% say in the latest wall street journal poll that the economy has gotten worse over the past two years, just 28% say it's gotten better. you better believe that will play a big part if it's still like that at election day. you mentioned they are doubling down on bidenomics. >> i think it's inaccurate, an inaccurate narrative to declare somehow bidenomics isn't working or it's not favorably received by people when you drill down into what it actually is. >> sandra: and we have, and consumer prices are up, pace of inflation, the growth of inflation has slowed but still growing. and wages for some reason they keep touting that wages are going up but real wages are actually down. so, really interesting to watch how they are operating on that. meantime, an update is coming shortly on the murdaugh trial, the news conference 2:30 p.m. eastern time, fresh off of your interview with his only living relative, his son buster. play out a bit of this, on the jury being swayed by the news, listen. >> didn't find a murder weapon, they didn't find any bloody clothing, there were no witnesses, why would the jurors be inclined to go against your dad? >> because of everything they had the ability to read prior to the trial. i think that people get overwhelmed and i think they believe everything that they read and i think it took advantage of a jury pool in a very small town, a very small county. >> sandra: what will be revealed at 2:30 p.m. eastern time, what new twist will we see? >> we had a fascinating discussion with buster murdaugh, he is now the only remaining member of his family. his mother and brother slaughtered, killed at their kennels at moselle and his father facing the rest of his life in prison. the jury came back very quickly, just after a few hours, despite the fact of the things the jury did not lean on but they were decisive in the outcome. we expect at 2:30, dick harpootlian and jim griffin, his attorney, will say they believe there was jury tampering and done by the colleton county clerk, also an important character, voice in the documentary as well. she spoke to the producers separately from me of this documentary and she was -- they say she was heavyhanded with the jury, told them not to be fooled by alex murdaugh, all of this, the appeals side. we'll hear from the other side. they will have their moment to say why they think it needs to be overturned and they want a new trial. >> sandra: fascinating. 2:30 eastern time, you'll cover it at your show at 3:00, "the fall of the house of murdaugh" is on fox nation, people are cop at this vated by the story, unbelievable, and the interview, people are still making up their minds. >> martha: stunning to hear from buster murdaugh who has not spoken about it, he was watching it play out, has strong feelings and a chance to see what he thinks. >> sandra: we'll see your coverage at 3:00. >> john: breaking news to tell you about here, fox news has just discovered the chairman of the house oversight committee, james comer has subpoenaed the dhs secretary, alejandro mayorkas and several other dhs and secret service officials wanting testimony related to the secret service's alleged tipoff of the biden transition team regarding a hunter biden tax probe interview back in 2020. also accusing the agencies of obstruction, the congressional investigation. six subpoenas in total were sent out. one to mayorkas for documents, and depositions and dhs officials. said the department of justice initiated the biden family cover-up and now dhs under the leadership of secretary mayorkas is complicit in it. said investigators were never able to interview hunter biden during the criminal investigation because secret service headquarters and the biden transition team were tipped off about the planned interview. we'll keep following this. we'll have the latest for you. meantime, you can get the full write-up on fox news digital, foxnews.com. >> sandra: we will follow all that breaking news. and migrant crisis testing massachusetts as officials scramble for more housing. they call in the national guard for help. is it enough? plus this. >> someone said, you know, that biden, he's getting old, man. i'll tell you what. the only thing that comes with age, a little bit of wisdom. >> john: president biden framing his age as wisdom. but polling shows people think it's a different thing. stand by. checked your credit card rates lately? many are over 22%, near 30% if you pay late. why not do what thousands of veteran families have done. call newday and pay off that high rate debt with the this just in to us as we look live at dallas-fort worth airport, united airlines has requested the faa issue a nationwide ground stop for all flights, including united express regional carriers due to what they are describing as equipment outages. right now that ground stop is until 2:00 p.m. eastern time. so about 42 minutes from now. we don't know if that time will move back, but that is what it is for now. fox weather obviously has been tracking all the delays at various airports because of whether, but this ground stop means all departing flights are held at their departure point. any flights in the air will continue to their destination. the ground stop is used to prevent additional flights from taking off. united airlines requesting the faa issue a nationwide ground stop on all flights due to equipment outages. so no further explanation as to what that is. we do know there has been a series of disrupted flights so far today, according to flight aware. you just saw the list of flight trouble for various airlines, but that has been happening so far today. this is obviously a huge travel day with folks travelling over the holiday weekend and due to return to their homes today. this would obviously affect a lot of people. >> john: united airlines has an average of almost 5,000 flights a day, the bulk of those would probably go off in the morning, so you know, given the time differences, that would probably be up until about noon a lot of flights in the air. but still, leaves a lot of flights that united is running that probably are not going to go, at least until they get this fixed. as you pointed out, we have no idea what the equipment problem is. they have not specifically said. >> sandra: and i can tell you covering these in the past, a lot of times it is computer issues, right, they are not able to access the fly lists, not able to check people in, so they have to issue a ground stop to stop all their operations so they can get that going. they did not specify that. just saying it's due to equipment outages. hopefully we get more information soon as this is obviously just breaking. we are getting advisories from the individual airlines now and some people are now posting that they are getting these updates to their inbox if they are scheduled to fly. if you are in the air or have a loved one in the air, or friend or business travel in the air, those flights will continue. but if you are scheduled to take off, this would of course affect your flight over the next couple of hours at least. >> john: the airlines have been bedevilled in the last eight months, with the christmas season meltdown with southwest airlines. a lot of this is due to staffing shortages, they cannot get the employees back after the pandemic. but obviously they have equipment problems as well. so, we'll keep following this and we'll let you know when that ground stop is lifted. meanwhile, all eyes on capitol hill later on this afternoon with mitch mcconnell expected to speak from the senate floor after the incident last week where he appeared to freeze. the capital's attending physician releasing a new letter on mcconnell's health, reads in part, there is no evidence that you have a seizure disorder or that you experienced a stroke, tia, or movement disorder such as parkinson's disease. there are no changes recommended in treatment protocols. all happening as voters express concerns about aging lawmakers and president biden as he prepares to run for a second term. town hall.com editor and fox news contributor katie pavlich. great to see you this tuesday afternoon. >> feels like a monday, we'll take it on a tuesday. >> john: i'm sure like a monday for the people on the united airlines flights. wall street journal poll, not good news for biden, asked if he is too old to run again, 73% say he is too old to run again, only 47% say trump is too old to run again. even though they are within three years of age, biden's age is perceived differently than the former president's. >> former president donald trump is 77 years old. president biden is 80 years old, and so i don't think it necessarily is about age, it's about someone's ability. the american people with watch provided when he rarely interacts with things he's said, the white house tries to argue him being at the beach for weeks on end and then lake tahoe is something that everyone entitled to with vacation, but not as much work as the former president. people are asking themselves am i better off today than four years ago, and the answer in mostly every category, absolutely not, when it's the personal economic situation, inflation, the border overrun and people are thinking about president donald trump looks like he's going to win the primary, going up against joe biden and what choice when it comes to 2024. >> john: biden laughs off issues about his age insisting i'm just fine. listen most recently. >> [laughter] oh, i'll tell you what. someone said that biden, he's getting old, man. i'll tell you what. well, guess what. guess what. i -- the only thing that comes with age is a little bit of wisdom. i've been doing this longer than anybody and guess what, i'm going to continue to do it with your help. >> john: the only thing that comes with age is wisdom. however, people who responded to the wall street poll see it differently when asked if biden is mentally up for the job, 36% said yes, 60% said no. >> as we have seen in the past few weeks, basic things that someone like joe biden who has been in politics for 40, 50 years and he was saying as he ages he gets more wise, or wiser, rather. he has not done basic things as commander in chief, the maui situation is one of them, refusing to comment on one of the worst catastrophes the country has seen in 100 years, he does not speak to reporter, he's inaccessible. and the white house has not made the white house physician available to the press corps for questioning, that's something donald trump did after his physicals were released. inaccessible. the president wanders off stage after events looking for where he's supposed to go, bizarre comment yesterday saying he didn't have a home to go to and someone followed up from the reporting pool saying are you homeless, no, i just have one home, when he actively has three homes, you know, two of which are in delaware, and he goes to often. they make it a point of keeping him away from the american public and when he is in front of the public he does not do well with things he should have mastered by now, someone who has been in politics for a long time. now, whether he'll be able to run a successful campaign against the republican nom nai knee -- nominee, he may have a problem on the campaign trail. >> john: he was trying to explain in a way, his home was being renovated by the secret service, but it was not clear. and mcconnell, feinstein, and katie, great to see you. thanks so much. >> happy tuesday. >> john: same to you. >> sandra: following up on the breaking news from a moment ago the united airlines has requested the faa issue a nationwide ground stop on all flights, including the united express regional carriers due to what they are describing as equipment outages, that ground stop was requested until 2:00 p.m. eastern time. about another 34 minutes left in that. that can have a big impact on a lot of flights. joining us is dennis, an american airlines pilot. seems to be a growing number of issues like this. this happens to be on the tuesday following the long holiday weekend where a lot of folks are taking to the skies, likely affect a lot of people. what are your thoughts on what we know so far about this? >> well, it's not good news. spokesman for the pilot union but digging in to find out how it may impact american united, asking for a ground stop is saying they need a time out and get that if the faa has their own equipment failures, not sure the details. any time you have a well-oiled machine rolling along, any delay in that can really gum up the works. so regardless of it, there is obviously an issue at united. i don't know how far it expands, but as you delay any flights with airlines operating at their maximum, we still are, and i just flew on thursday hauling some of the highest travel days we have ever had, there is not a lot of room for error and crews start timing out. they misconnect and it becomes a real mess and i think our passengers know one event can trickle across the country very quickly and you are running out of people and it can be a real mess out there. >> john: dennis, john roberts here. we saw the famous southwest airlines christmas meltdown, mostly because of weather and staffing shortages, not being able to get pilots and crew where they needed to be to make the flights. then we saw that nationwide ground stop when the notice to air man system went down. what would it be that would take united airlines off line? would it be their in-house system, their reservation system, what do you believe it would be? >> you are listing all the things going through my mind now. unique to united and calling for a national ground stop, does that mean the equipment is faa-based, institution that remains under funded, understaffed and has had its issues, staffing of air traffic controllers and stuff. not enough details out there now but the various beehives out there in every airline, various cities, when something like this happens it ripples quick. i'm not sure why united was uniquely the only airline requesting that, at least that we know of. but this is not good news and if you have an infrastructure failure based in the federal machinery, a problem, and if you have it uniquely at united, then it's their problem. we are hoping it's contained and one thing is for sure. no matter what the system is, you have professional pilots out there and none of us are headed into the sky unless we know it's safe and the safety margin is protected. >> sandra: amen to that.enter we'll stay on the ground, wait as long as it takes, don't put us up in the sky until it's safe. but a lot of people will be affected by this. can you sort of, dennis, take us through what's happening over the next half hour. we are reporting it was requested from united airlines due to equipment outages, there are other various reports that it is computers problems, all flights are grounded now. what is it like to get back up and operating again when you have that many people that have been delayed or flights stopped from going up in the air? >> it's very challenging. airlines, you know, have failed that challenge last summer when weather hit and getting the recovery, it was not mother nature, it was the actions taken after that. when you have a whole system shut down and again, only going off of what you recorded to me, united asking for a nationwide shut down sounds like a broader problem, but stopping the machine is usually a better plan until you can get things back up and running, even if it's short-term, because the implications, they are not stacking on each other. i don't know what system is down and any airplane is flight will be safe, we can operate, we are trained to do that on a normal bases but on time and fully staffed on the airplane, from pilots to flight attendants, it's a box of unknown and uncertainty. the only certainty is i know the system is going to operate only when it's safe, but now we really have to watch for, you know, where the risk points are and then bringing this back up, does it take a couple hours, does it take a day, it just depends on how deep the shut down is and we'll learn when the facts come out. >> john: united airlines has asked for a ground stop until 2:00 eastern time, whether that is a hard restart time or initial assessment, how many times have we been told your flight is delayed by 20 minutes. well, delayed another 15 and those 15 go by and on and on and on and on. we don't know as you point out what system this is, but from your knowledge, what systems are there in the united airlines nationwide system that could go down to cause this? >> well, for them to go to the faa and ask for a ground stop, sounds systemic as flight planning computer that dropped offline, the weather planning, maybe unique to united. >> sandra: dennis, did we lose you there? >> go ahead. >> sandra: ok. dennis, no, i think we just cut out there for a second. we are waiting actually also to hear from the white house on this. we know the briefing is ongoing there at the white house ahead of the president's trip this weekend. jake sullivan has been at the podium, and awaiting karine jean-pierre, we are searching for a statement from pete buttigieg, the transportation secretary, he says he's pressing the airlines to do better and hold them more accountable for travel delays. interesting to see what he says in the wake of the latest ground stop. thank you for joining us and check back with you soon. >> thank you. >> john: thanks, dennis. migrant crisis weighing heavily on massachusetts as the governor mobilizes the national guard to help with the latest wave of asylum seekers. this as more states are being pushed to the limit to provide resources for illegal immigrants streaming not united states. 2024 presidential candidate will hurd will join us in moments with his reaction. but molly line is live in boston. when does the national guard get to work here? >> the massachusetts national guard soldiers are slated to get in their places early next week. providing services at the migrant emergency shelters at hotels, essentially, all across the state, providing the on-site coordination for food, transportation, medical care, and delivered by a web of vendors they are pulling together, including enrolling children in schools. they were called into service by the governor, a democrat, who issued an order activating up to 250 national guard members. that move coming just a few weeks after healy declared a state of emergency tied to the rapidly number of migrants arriving here and stretching shelter capacity to unsustainable levels. >> delivering an urgent and formal appeal to the federal government for intervention and action. we need action to remove barriers and expedite work authorization. we need funding to help us in this time. >> massachusetts is spending more than $45 million a month on programs and shelter for the arriving eligible families. john, back to you. >> john: thanks, and jumping out because we have breaking news. >> sandra: more on that in just a moment. some news from the white house briefing a few moments ago, the white house press secretary, karine jean-pierre, just told the press that the president will be wearing a mask indoors again, this following the positive diagnosis of dr. jill biden, the president's -- the first lady. he has since tested negative, but she said he will be wearing a mask indoors again and the white house is encouraging americans to get their updated covid-19 vaccine. he took a question on that a moment ago, now we are being told he took a question on xi snubbing the upcoming g20. listen here. >> what is the latest assessment of the state of play between those two countries? >> actively advancing captures it well. our current analysis is discussions between north korea and russia with respect to north korea providing military support to russia for its war in ukraine, those discussions are actively advancing. most recently we saw the defense minister of russia make a trip to north korea in essence to ask for weapons and have information as we have indicated publicly that north korea's leader, kim jong-un has some expectations those discussions will continue as we go forward, including leader level discussions perhaps even in-person leader level discussions. i can't get into all the details of what we know but the broad parameters that's what we are seeing. ongoing discussions and discussions where we have information the leadership of north korea sees this as leading to leader level engagement and we have been discussing publicly the possibility of north korea supplying weapons to russia for quite some time, and the reason why that there is such an intense effort on the part of moscow to generate this kind of support from north korea is that we have continued to squeeze russia's defense industrial base and they are now going about looking to whatever source they can find for things like artillery ammunition, that's what we see going on now, and we will continue to call it out and we will continue to call on north korea to abide by its public commitments not to supply weapons to russia that will kill ukrainians. >> [indiscernible] >> over time we have not seen them actively supply large amounts of munitions or other military capacity to the war in ukraine. i cannot predict what will happen at the end of this. i can only say the discussions are actively advancing and the russians have an increased intensity as reflected in the fact their defense minister, number one guy in the defense establishment got on a plane and flew to pyongyang to push this forward. >> follow up on north korea, a little more analysis how you think this is benefitting the north koreans or what they want out of this? do you think that part of this has to do with them getting less than they want from their traditional patron in beijing, do you think that the u.s. has any leverage in terms of either providing food aid to the north koreans or ratcheting up sanctions, where is the room for movement there? >> so i can't speculate on north korea's motives. what i can say is this. providing weapons to russia for use on the battlefield to attack grain silos and the heating infrastructure of major cities as we head into winter, to try to conquer territory that belongs to another sovereign nation, it's not going to reflect well on north korea and they will pay a price for this in the international community. we have also imposed sanctions, specific targeted sanctions to try to disrupt any effort to use north korea as a conduit or as a source for weapons going to russia. we did so as recently as mid august. and we have continued to convey privately as well as publicly to the north koreans and asked allies and partners to do the same. our view they should abide by the publicly stated commitments they are not going to provide that's weapons. what has changed in their calculus is not something that i can speak to, that's in the mind of kim jong-un and he is the ultimate decision maker but we will look for opportunities to dissuade the north koreans from taking this step, to get others to do the same, and to report to the world what we are seeing in terms of the actively advancing discussions that are taking place between these two countries. >> g20, cognizant of the fact the state department has blistering human rights reports out on both of the countries that biden is going to, india and vietnam, including passages about their restrictions on freedom of expression for the media, threats of violence, arrests, this sort of thing. is that something that the u.s. journalists travelling with biden should expect and are you taking actions to ensure their safety on that trip? >> first of all, the ability of the american press travelling with president biden to be able to go to the g20 and cover the g20 in an in encumbered way is something that has been a serious priority for this white house, my personally as recently as just this morning, and we are putting our money where our mouth is in terms of making sure that american press will have all the access that they need and are entitled to as members of the international press, members of the white house press. secondly, president biden himself has spoken to questions of human rights as recently as the state visit earlier this year. the united states, our position is clear, is reflected on the statements of the president and the report you are referring to. when it comes to the trip to vietnam, we believe we have a powerful opportunity to advance our partnership that will deliver for the american people and prosperity in the indo-pacific, but we always raise issues of freedom expression, religion and other rights at the core of human rights. this trip will be no exception to that. >> what does it say about the state of russian supply lines they are asking for of all people the north koreans for help, and can they give a volume that will have any meaningful impact on the conflict? >> we have asked our intelligence community that second question, it's a good question. our visibility into the question of quantity of stocks and then quality of stocks is somewhat constrained. but it's something that we will continue to look at carefully. i think there is an open question about how much material and what the quality of the material is that could be provided if it were to be provided. and i think it says a lot that russia is having to turn to a country like north korea to see to bolster its defense capacity in a war that it expected would be over in a week, that in september of 2023 it is going to north korea to get munitions to try to continue to grind out on the battlefield in ukraine. >> g20, my colleague asked the china question. is the president questioned to meet with leaders that might be interested in wanting peace there? >> i don't know who -- i laugh, i don't know who fits on the list of who you might be interested in, two categories, the ones you are not interested in and the ones that you are not. >> we are interested in all of them. >> we don't have bilateral schedules with either of those two leaders at this time. i'm not going to speak to how the schedule will shake up. and you know, a certain dynamic element to this, all of the leaders in a very confined space with time on the margins so some of the bilateral engagements as you saw last year in indonesia will likely be announced at the last minute and we will do our darnest to make sure that they are done in a way where the u.s. press has the ability to participate in them. yeah. >> thank you. the communique said most members of the g2 condemned the war in ukraine. what progress has been made in the last ten months to get india and china on board with that position? >> first of all, india signed on to the statement most members, it was, as i recall, russia who was the main objector to the proposition that so many of the other members in the g20 signed on to. i don't expect russia will flip its position on the ukraine war this year. to get absolute consensus is challenging because you have russia seated at the table, not the leader level because putin is not going to be there. but the fact that most members of the g20, as most members of the u.n. general assembly hold the position that russia's war was illegal, in violation of the u.n. charter and the war must end on terms consistent with the u.n. charter. that is the result of months of hard diplomacy by the united states and our partners and it continues to reflect where international sentiment is on this issue. >> what assurances has the -- [indiscernible] that congress will fund ukraine's defenses going forward? >> we are working closely with the congress as you know right now on a supplemental funding package the president has submitted seeking funding through the end of the year. we have been working with the senate and the house. we have had constructive conversations on a bipartisan basis in both chambers. we believe we will be able to secure the necessary funding as we go forward. i'm not going to speak to assurances, per se, but the conversations have been constructive, they have been positive, substantive, and we anticipate being able to work our way through to a sound package so ukraine can get what it needs. >> on world bank reforms, on the one hand you talked about it not a specific country, it's not about china. the other hand, though, you have said that you need an alternative to the "coercive and unsustainable lending through the balkan road initiative." i mean, how can it be about china and not be about china at the same time? >> well, we believe that -- >> john: we are going to jump out of this, jake sullivan taking some questions about the president's upcoming visit to asia and the g20 summit, neither putin nor xi will be in attendance. it's an opportunity for the president to talk to other world leaders, but a couple of big meetings that typically take place will not take place. >> sandra: and we will monitor that, we expect karine jean-pierre will be taking questions as well, and peter doocy is in the room. meantime, john, gop president will hurd is here patiently waiting in studio, a lot of news breaking this afternoon. >> always a pleasure. >> sandra: you've had a chance to listen to jake sullivan and news of karine jean-pierre, he will be wearing a mask after the first lady tested positive. they are urging others to get their vaccine, update their vaccine doses. more on that coming up. meanwhile, jake sullivan a moment ago, the u.s. has not seen north korea supply large amounts of munitions to russia, there was a lot of questions about the relations in these countries, between these countries. what was your response to what you just heard from the white house? >> what i've learned for most of my adult life i've been involved in protecting our country. i stopped terrorists overseas, prevented nuclear weapons, and your friends should love you and enemies should fear you and one example of the north koreans taking this aggressive step to provide equipment to the russians is a sign that the north koreans do not care what we think or what the international community thinks. but it's also a sign that things are not going the way vladimir putin planned, the fact that he's having to buy equipment and material from north korea. usually it's the other way around. bulk of the munitions the north koreans have gotten over the years, a lot of it has come from russia, so it shows a sign of vladimir putin's war in ukraine is not going the way it should be going, but also an opportunity. i've made it very clear, we are in a new cold war with the chinese government. the chinese government does not want to see north korea at war with south korea, that's going to lead to millions of north korean refugees on the chinese border, so a possibility to work with the chinese against the north koreans in this case. >> sandra: very interesting. >> john: will, you've represented texas when you were in congress. you just came back from three days on the border. wondering what you saw there, because the "washington post" reports there is a record number of people involved with family units crossing the border. 91,000 people were associated with family units during the month of august. and when you take a look at the overall arrests across the border illegally, in august, it was 177,000 compared to 132,000 in july, and 99,000 in june. so, what did you see when you were there? >> what i saw is law enforcement, low morale with our law enforcement because of bad policies coming into washington, d.c., those numbers are only going to get higher when the weather gets better. it's averaging 110° in a lot of places in texas and you are seeing those levels. this is -- the way we solve this problem and now other states around the country are starting to see the issue, that we have been dealing with and texas and arizona has been dealing with the last 3 or 4 years, this is a policy issue, and it starts with stop treating everybody as an asylum seeker. if you do this, people that are abusing the asylum process are impacting the people that actually have legitimate reason to have asylum. and so we stopped doing that, you are not going to have the 5.5 million plus people that have come into this country illegally and each one of those folks that have come in have spent about $10,000 on a human smuggler, that's an average. that's about $55 billion with a b. you add on fentanyl and drug trafficking, that's another 40, $60 billion. when you add those foggy, that is more than all the mcdonald's and starbucks around the world by a factor of two. this is how big this problem is and it starts with needing better leadership. our border czar needs to know that going to a tacqueria is not it, we need to fire the current secretary of homeland security, treat human smugglers and drug traffickers the terrorists they are. >> sandra: and the real economic consequences all of it happening right now. according to our own government data, we dug up the numbers overnight, revealed, staggering figure, 1.2 million u.s.-born workers lost their jobs last month in this country and have been replaced by 688,000 foreign-born staff as the number of migrants flowing over our borders continues to surge. this is happening right now. those are government statistics. >> it's absolutely happening and part of the issue we need to address the root causes in the places where this is coming from. and so historically most of our illegal immigration has come from el salvador, guatemala and honduras. for a fraction of the budget, address violence, lack of economic opportunities in those countries and solve it before they get to our border which is more expensive. those are some of the issues and ways to address the problem and all of it i've just outlined does not require congress, this requires leadership in the white house to change how they are implementing existing law. >> john: will, i want to ask you about the candidacy in general. you did not qualify for the first debate. no indication you will qualify for the second debate. rcp average has you at 0.3%. larry hogan is calling on candidates like yourself to drop out and consolidate the field. how do you make the case to keep going? >> well, look, i appreciate larry's perspective, he was a good governor. for me, my goal has never been to peak today or tomorrow, the goal is peak before the first election. we have the resources and people are excited about what we are trying to do. i recognize i'm a dark horse candidate. but this is what makes america great that we can have these competition of ideas, the republican party is supposed to be the big tip party that has this competition, if the viewers want to help, hurd for america, and donate at least $1 to meet those requirements, but the goal is to talk about the issues affecting people, and things like border security. i have more experience on the border than everybody else combined. these are the issues we are trying to work on. >> sandra: appreciate having you here. >> always a pleasure. >> john: fox news alert, apparently the nationwide ground stop requested by united airlines have been lifted. so it's our understanding all of the flights temporarily grounded, and just the ones yet to be taken off, the ones in the air and on the way to their destinations were continuing through this, but the flights should start getting back on track again. we'll keep an eye on it just to make sure. transportation secretary is telling united airlines that they better make their passengers whole if anybody was inconvenienced by all of this. >> sandra: did just issue a statement, it appears it was minutes before united airlines came out on its own and said that that ground stop had been lifted, and buttigieg posted to his secretary account, i'm aware of the nationwide ground stop at united airlines due to i.t. issues. faa is receiving more information about the cause and scope and make sure u.a. meets obligation to affected passengers. that was 12 minutes ago. and since then, united airline account says it's lifted. so looking at live shots, dallas looks quiet but some planes are about to take off. so, hopefully things are safely underway across the country. >> john: we'll keep watching that, and now this. >> we have people on the high school level and at the university level saying not only can boys and girls play together but you have to agree to play together in order for you to sort of fit into this box of being not hate filled. >> if we don't do this, we have wasted 50 years of work and trying to uplift women. i don't get it. this is pathetic that it's still an issue. >> sandra: the fight over transgender athletes heating up as the school year started. the alaska state board of education passed a policy last week that would ban trans athletes from competing on high school girls teams. >> john: let's bring in college volleyball player macy petty, and ambassador for young women for america. the battle is heating up, a lot of states are banning the practice which is just igniting the opposition to an even greater degree. you penned an op-ed on fox news on which you said you want to hear some commitments from the presidential candidates here regarding this issue. what do you want to hear from them? >> yeah, the concerned women for america presidential promise is simple, affirms basic truth, sex is binary and only women can get pregnant and i am looking forward to seeing candidates continue to sign this and promise that these truths will be upheld and defended in their administration. i'm sick of seeing the current administration just leave women behind as they cater everything to the 1% of americans who are, the population that identifies as transgender. we need someone in office who is going to defend the dignity of women. >> sandra: your words are incredibly powerful, your voice is incredibly powerful. how do you fathom it has gotten to this point? >> it totally blows me away, talking about the alaska board move earlier this week where it just said basic things that boys had to play on boys teams and girls had to play on girls teams. aclu of alaska came back and said the board is not recognizing it's discriminatory and violating the privacy of young alaskans, and i would assert the board did acknowledge basic truths and acknowledged that when you allow boys to play on girls teams, you are denying women fair competition because of their sex and that is discrimination. we need to return back to the basic truths of what it means to be a woman and what it means to be a man and affirm that both, and presidential administration's as well as in the states. >> john: in this fox news digital op-ed that you wrote, you talk about playing in tournaments against a transgender individual and you say the recruiters were out there to get an assessment of how the players were doing. and you found this, instead of demonstrating skills i built over several years, recruiters watched a boy slam a ball in our faces. playing on a volleyball net over seven inches shorter as he should have as a man, i felt embarrassed and robbed. and the university of pennsylvania in 2022 nominated lia thomas to be their woman of the year. he didn't receive the accolade -- she didn't receive, rather, the accolade. but she was nominated for it. you know, critics say in a rush to embrace transgenderism, people are eager to erase biological women. what do you say? >> that is absolutely correct. the fight for title ix is one we just celebrated the 51st anniversary in june of signing this amazing legislation that is giving me the opportunities, i'm sitting before you as a current ncaa athlete able to pay for my education because of my athletic achievements and that would not have been possible if girls sports were not celebrated and protected as it has been. but the attack of the transgender agenda is attacking, and push back that girls sports are for girls only. >> sandra: karine jean-pierre has been pressed many times saying it's complicated. to that you say what? >> i say it's not complicated. they are called girls sports for a reason, only for girls. it's embarrassing to sit here as a female athlete, a young voter, and have the president of the united states celebrate male instruction in female athletics, i'm concerned about the presidential promise i can know whoever signs that promise is going to defend female athletics and that means a lot as an ncaa athlete. >> john: we'll wait and see which candidates do, three that have and ron desantis has passed a law in the state of florida. see what the other candidates do. macy petty, good to catch up with you. thanks for being with us. >> thanks so much for having me. >> cavalcante has clearly obtained some clothing and unknown other supplies and we want to minimize any opportunity to obtain anything more. you are dealing with someone who is desperate and does not want to be caught. >> john: all-out manhunt underway outside of philadelphia as a convicted killer remains on the run after escaping a county prison. they say 34-year-old danelo cavalcante is desperate and dangerous and now confirmed sightings. welce
