the house foreign affairs committee set to hold a bipartisan roundtable any moment now with relatives of the 13 u.s. service members killed in the terrorist bombing at the gate at kabul's international airport during the chaotic u.s. withdrawal from afghanistan. i'm john roberts in washington. sandra, good to see you this afternoon. >> sandra: you as well, john. tragedy is the tie binding the 13 families who lost their loved ones two years ago outside the abbey gate, many asking questions about the events that led up to that deadly bombing, and they say they have received few answers from the biden administration. >> john: a new article of impeachment has been introduced against defense secretary lloyd austin for allegedly ignoring key intelligence to push ahead with the exit from the war torn country. >> sandra: aishah, we have some brand-new information on all this. general milley is responding to a stark statement. >> powerful and lengthy statement, jennifer griffin sent this over to me and basically writes in this that he doesn't like what happened in afghanistan, and that the families deserve transparency and accountability. so, take a look. he says the, i trust the army, navy and marine corps did the best they could in briefing the families who had loved ones killed at abbey gate. if there were issues, we need to take action that is necessary. but he underlines the fact he does not think that he didn't like what happened in afghanistan. now, this is a big deal. comes after cory mills fired articles of impeachment against lloyd austin, and wondering why it's happening now, two years later, a lot has happened in the last couple weeks. we obviously heard from the gold star families, they have been waiting patiently for answers. now they are fed up and they are speaking out. and house republicans feel they are getting a clearer picture of what happened by piecing together testimony from the families, testimony from the marines who were injured, and new documents they have obtained from the state department. >> this is what's very hard on the families, it could have been prevented but it wasn't stopped. and we have greater intelligence that the i.c. had warned about isis k plotting this in a hotel room, asked for permission for an airstrike, the airstrike was denied. we want to get to the bottom and these families deserve answers. >> so sandra, we'll be watching this testimony very carefully as i'm sure the pentagon is as well, we'll bring you news that comes our way. >> sandra: thank you for that, thank you. >> john: the white house where press secretary karine jean-pierre expected to hold a briefing momentarily, she just took to the podium there, she will likely field a few questions about president biden's use of a pseudonym during his time in the obama administration to receive emails. yesterday we learned the national archives and records administration has nearly 5400 emails in other records that potentially show president biden used a pseudonym and a non-profit constitutional legal group has filed a lawsuit to get its hands on the actual documents. editor at large for the spectator and fox news contributor. is your spider sense tingling over all of this, and if so, where is it headed? >> very much so, john. look, it's not just one pseudonym, it's multiple pseudonyms and the fact that the then vice president was using them is obviously a clear attempt to avoid the kind of transparency that would have resulted from using his real name. the other thing is that one of the things that is already known about many of these emails is that they include sharing information with hunter biden about the vice president's schedule, particularly as it relates not just to various foreign issues but particularly issues regarding a meeting with ukraine officials, and that's something that i think deserves to have a lot more attention paid to it. we deserve transparency from our elected officials and yet they do frequently engage in this type of behavior in a way to try to avoid sunlight and i certainly think that republicans are going to be very curious about learning what is in all of these different email records. they are going to push forward and try to get them. >> sandra: do you think we will ever get answers, karine jean-pierre is doing a little housekeeping here, we will dip in when she takes questions in a few moments but we have seen a little bit more pressing from the mainstream media on this to get answers. do you believe they will ever shed any more light than they have on this? >> they are going to hold off as long as they possibly can, drag their feet on it. but look, the reason that you are seeing more questions from a broader swath of media about this is because it's so blatant. it's so in their face they cannot avoid answering questions. one of the concerns they feel needs to be addressed. whenever you see this thing happening in government what you are asking yourself, what are the figures involved trying to hide? what's the kind of information transfer they are trying to keep the american people from knowing, or at least having any kind of access to in an immediate fashion. this type of stuff tends to take years to come out. certainly that was the case in this situation and we deserve and the public deserves to have answers what information was being transferred back and forth, to whom and why. >> john: ben, as we wait to see what direction the questionings take at the house, yesterday karine jean-pierre was asked about a new a.p. poll about the president's age that found the following. all respondents out of all respondents, 77% think that biden is too old to effectively fill another four-year term. 89% of republicans feel that, 69% of democrats say that's the case. 74% of independents. this morning on the falkner focus we had on a couple of guests, leslie marshall among them, said age isn't a number, it's a relative thing that one person's 95 is another person's 80. where do you think biden falls into that arc? >> well, i think that you see that in that democrat number. the fact that they have such high concerns about his age even with their partisan loyalty to him, the fact is most of those people will be voting for joe biden assuming he's on the ballot next november and yet they are openly concerned about his age. they see right through the fact that the media has thrown up a circus trying to hide the ball on this and they are incapable of doing it. it's too obvious how much the president is wearing his age in certain ways. and look, to your point there are certain members of our leadership, political class, are functional, they can do their job well into their 90s and i think one person's chuck grassley is not the same as someone's joe biden in the sense. american people, and the fact that it does not break down along partisan lines, you know, is an indication this is a very real challenge for democrats and i don't think the white house has figured out a way to spin this. to really navigate this in a way the american people can have confidence in the president. >> sandra: they say they are trying to protect the american public, just showing the easter moment when the staff came over and tried to sweep him away in that moment. but you the guests tell a lot of the story with his aging process, some we put together, the gaffes tell. >> putin weakened by recent events. clearly losing the war in iraq. >> and joan shangang -- shanga -- >> oh! >> god save the queen, man. >> sandra: some were gaffe, and some physical missteps. led to this moment in the briefing room yesterday and i believe it was one of the very first questions she got from a reporter in the room. here is karine jean-pierre responding to questions about the president's age. >> i've said this many times and my colleagues have said this. the president says this. if you watch him, if you have seen what he's done the last two years, this is a recent has had a historic administration. >> sandra: she then came at everybody with the many accomplishments they say that he has achieved under this presidency. ben. >> that's just completely backward looking. it's also something i think is not representative of the concerns the american people have about potentially re-electing this president i don't think you can find confidence he's going to finish out a potential second term. people don't like to see the presidents they elect suffer through these things, even if they are republicans, or independents, you don't want to see a president who has these types of struggles and i think the, as much as the washington media can't avoid asking these questions anymore, given how obvious the gaffes are, karine jean-pierre is not going to be able to address that with a list of bullet points about various policies they have been able to achieve. >> john: breaking news, ben, in recent minutes. miami mayor suarez is suspending his presidential campaign. i don't think it's much of a surprise. he didn't qualify for the debate, and certainly wouldn't have qualified the next debate either. people thought there might be some good vice president possibilities there. what do you think about the fact he's now out of the race, basically? >> look, i think what you are seeing overall, john, this field is shrinking much more rapidly than the field shrank in 2020 for the democrats or 2016 for republicans, you had 17 and as many in the case of democrat, 29 candidates run for office. that's something that's helpful for any of these candidates, including nikki haley, including chris christie, who you are going to have on the show today who want to see that field shrink so they have a shot at becoming the nominee. the fact it's shrinking so quickly i think is a very good benefit for the republicans to have some clarity, even if they ultimately end up renominating former president trump earlier on in the process so that everyone can get a fair shot. >> sandra: ben, covering a lot for us there. thank you so much for joining us. appreciate it, sir. meanwhile, hurricane idalia is rapidly gaining power as it heads towards florida's big bend on the gulf coast. right now idalia is on track to make landfall as an extremely dangerous category 3 hurricane with destructive winds of up to 120 miles an hour. torrential rains and a life-threatening storm surge is expected. what do we know right now, adam? >> sandra, as you said, looking at a category 1 hurricane, this will get up to category 3 status. 85 mile an hour winds moving to the north at 14 miles an hour. these are buoys off the coast, folks will be dealing with that. outer bands are rain are currently falling across portions of florida from fort myers, bonita springs, farther up toward the north. big thunderstorms with heavy rain, those thunderstorms could involve tornadoes as we see a likely risk here, excuse me, a possible risk here across the entire state, maybe as much as an ef-two tornado could be wrapped up in the bands of rain we continue to see those move on shore throughout the day. this is the path of the hurricane as you watch it track up the gulf and ultimately run up to the florida big bend that, is wednesday morning. winds of 125 miles an hour, that would be a category 3 hurricane. it's going to bring a lot of different impacts. one will be the winds. pay attention to the time stamp in the corner, taking you to midnight, still making the move until early tomorrow morning and you really see impacts falling apart overnight tonight and then into tomorrow, making landfall currently with this in-house model right around 11:00 a.m. winds very strong at that point, particularly right there at the eyewall and you are starting to see the winds climb up to 70, 80, 90 miles an hour. i do want to leave you with this, sandra. what are we talking about here? maybe storm surge up to 15 feet, that plus all the rain plus the winds, very dangerous situation. >> sandra: wow, we will keep our eye every minute on these developments. adam, thank you. for the latest updates on the path, foxweather.com for full coverage with america's weather team, plus news on the latest weather conditions specifically in your area. >> john: hundreds of protestors rallying against the decision to house migrants at a former staten island school. community members making it clear they do not want this in their neighborhood. now the city of new york is responding, next. >> defund israel, you want to give taiwan to china, you want to -- you want to make less -- you have no foreign policy experience and it shows. >> sandra: quite a moment last wednesday night, presidential candidate nikki haley taking issue with her rival's foreign policy, and now he seems to be walking back some remarks. but not without taking aim at the foreign ambassador. how his response is raising eyebrows. nikki haley is here to react. let me be direct... you're watching football wrong! what do you call a guy in face paint that can't get the game? ...a clown! sorry, what app was it again? no, no. just give me a second... amateurs. ohhh! sorry everybody. directv sports central gives you access to every game... ...so you never have to compromise on gameday. ...was that necessary? i was just illustrating a point. oh. get in the redzone with sports pack. call 1-800-directv veteran homeowners to combat today's rising prices. lower your monthly payments with the three c's: pay down your credit cards, pay attacks over foreign policy following last week's debate. 2024 presidential candidate vivek ramaswamy called to clarify his controversial foreign policy remarks after his rival, nikki haley, blasted him for not backing u.s. allies and the attacks appear to be escalating after the entrepreneur referenced haley's given indian name on his campaign website. here so respond to all of that is nikki haley. ambassador, thank you for being here, welcome to you. first off, what is your reaction to that twitter post, keep lying, referencing your name saying that desperation is growing. >> i'm not going to get involved in these childish name games. it's pretty pathetic. first of all, i was born with nikki on my birth certificate, i was raised as nikki, i married a haley and so that is what my name is. so he can say or misspell or do whatever he wants, but he can't step away from the fact that look, he's the one that said he was going to abandon israel. those were his words. now he's wanting to walk it back and the reality is you have to understand the importance of our allies and those relationships. we can never be so narcissitic to think we don't need friends. america needs israel, too, about you they face genocide threats from hamas, syria, hezbollah. israel is the front line of defense with islamic terrorism in iran and he doesn't get it. you can tell what kind of leader they will be based on what he's running his campaign, and he's doing it on his own. >> john: he is not here to answer that directly but a little bit of him from his appearance with "hannity" talking about the issue of funding to israel and maybe there comes a day when the united states no longer has to fund israel. here is what he said. >> what i said is told be a mark of success if we ever got to a point in our relationship with israel, if israel never needed the united states's aid and you know how politics t played. a lot of the other professional politicians threatened by my rise have used that statement to say that i would cut off aid to israel. that's not correct. the reality is this. by the end of my first term, our relationship with israel will be stronger than it ever has been because i will treat it as a true friendship, not just a transactional relationship. >> sandra: ambassador haley, if you can, stand by a couple moments. we want to get an update on the storm's path and how we are preparing for that down there in florida. the fema director is speaking from the white house, let's dip in and get the news off the top. >> in advance of the storm in florida turning on the many tools available at my disposal to provide the governor any support or resources he may need in advance of landfall and then after. this allows me to prestage people, equipment, and resources in florida, georgia, and the carolinas, and i have done just that. we have prepositioned different types of resources across all three states to include several incident management assistance teams, our urban search and rescue teams. our disaster survivor assistance teams, all ready to pivot to the impacted areas. and warehouses filled with food, water, blankets and medical supplies ready to rapidly move into the impacted area at the state's request. but we are not in this alone. we have an entire federal family that is postured to support. our national response coordination center here in washington, d.c. is fully activated and this means there are several hundred staff from across the federal family that are working together to support any requests for federal assistance. we have our partners from the u.s. army corps of engineers who are prepositioned to support any power restoration needs. health and human services is assisting with evacuations from hospitals and assisted living centers. and the red cross has 50,000 meals to support the immediate needs as requested and has prestaged shelter support to supplement the 19 shelters that are already open by the state. this is a really important point that i want to talk about next. it's on preparedness and again, i really ask for all of your help to help me ensure the people in the storm's path get this message. while we are engaged with our states to prepare for the path of this storm, it's critical that the people that are in the path of this storm are also prepared. and i know that the people of florida are no stranger to storms and i encourage all floridians to take this storm seriously. this storm is very strong and is expected to strengthen to a major hurricane by the time it makes landfall due to high surface temperatures in the gulf of mexico. this means heavy winds, high winds, heavy rain, and a forecasted 12-foot storm surge in some of the areas along the western coast. this storm surge, this is one of the highest risk parts of a hurricane and is especially problematic along the west coast of florida due to the underwater geography. the coastal shelf gets shallow very quickly, which increases the amount of the storm surge putting more people at risk. very few people can survive being in the path of major storm surge and this storm will be deadly if we don't get out of harm's way and take it seriously. so i ask all floridians to be vigilant and heed the warnings of your local officials. have a plan to communicate with your family and your loved ones. charge your cell phones, your batteries, any devices that you may have, and ensure that you are receiving emergency alerts. and most important, please listen to the warnings of local officials. if they tell you to evacuate, please do so immediately. and remember, you don't have to evacuate far. if you are in a storm surge warning area, it could mean just travelling 10 or 20 miles to get out of the most significant impact areas. it does not mean having to travel hundreds of miles to get out of the storm's path. and finally, we are all in this together. i ask that you check on your neighbors, especially those who are older adults, people living with disabilities, or may need additional assistance. but before i close, i want to provide an update on another topic that has been widely reported in recent days and asked by many of you. fema's disaster relief fund, which as of this morning has a balance of $3.4 billion. so today i am directing the implementation of immediate needs funding. this means that fema will prioritize available funding for critical response efforts to idalia, the maui fires, and any other extreme weather events that may come our way without interruption. while continuing to meet the immediate needs of survivors through the remaining weeks of the fiscal year. i want to repeat. we are prioritizing funding for idalia, for the maui fires, and any other extreme weather events that are coming our way without interruption. and i want to stress that while immediate needs funding will ensure we can continue to respond to disasters, it is not a permanent solution. congress must work with us on the supplemental request that the administration has made on behalf of fema and you are going to hear more from me on that soon. my primary responsibility at fema is to ensure that we are always postured to respond to any disaster and to provide the lifesaving and life sustaining support with needed and with that i'll take any questions. >> can you relate what your conversation, what you talked about with governor desantis and add any details about what coordination you are undertaking with florida officials. >> yes, when i spoke with governor desantis yesterday, my main question is what are your main concerns, what are the areas that you have the greatest concern about, and do you have any unmet needs or resources that we can bring in. he shared with me what his posture at the state is going to be, and where he has some great concerns and we are working and embedded with his staff and i assured him that we have teams working side-by-side with our colleagues, our emergency management colleagues there at the state emergency operation center to be able to quickly respond as needed. >> following up quick, what were those concerns he had at that time? >> he shared with me the concern again about people taking this seriously and being able to evacuate as a result of the storm surge. he has concerns about the vulnerable populations, right, and making sure that we are providing any assistance we can to help them get out of harm's way. >> you mentioned supplemental request after getting a fuller idea of what has happened in hawaii and with this storm threatening a severe impact. do you anticipate raising the level -- [indiscernible] >> the supplemental request we have put in is $12 billion and that will be a bridge to get us through the end of the fiscal year. if we continue to see more storms, we are going to continuously monitor the disaster relief fund to determine what more may be needed. but the supplemental request will get us through the end of this fiscal year. >> in some places there is frustration with institutions and authorities, we have seen that in the wake of some other disasters. do you have concern about people taking the warnings from public officials acting on them, and when we saw with hurricane ian, there was -- the forecast indicated it was going in one place, it went farther south, and some people did not get out of the way. so my question is, given what we don't know, are you concerned that there is any wariness, mistrust or fatigue listening to officials in times of crisis like this. >> i think the important thing to look at and when we look at hurricane ian, it's not just the path of the hurricane we need to be concerned about. we have to be communicate what the entire risk is and the significant risk and the highest risk for loss of life is storm surge and that storm surge right now shows impacts all along the western coast, and so i encourage people, and i really appreciate your help in getting that message out that it's not just the path of the storm and it will continue to change, but look at all the risks that are associated with this storm, storm surge being the most life-threatening, not just where the path is going to go or where the eye of the storm is going to make landfall. >> and in terms of the credibility of authorities, do you sense there is any erosion of that at a time when you are trying to get that message out? >> i don't have any indications that there are. i think that what we are seeing right now in florida is people are heeding their advice. local officials and people are moving out of harm's way. >> thank you. when -- i want to go back to hurricane ian. when hurricane ian hit, you have many communities of color. you also have poor communities complaining they were not prioritized during this time. and so they didn't get necessary relief that they wanted, and they felt like they were kind of put on the back burner. many of these areas are in places that are more physically vulnerable. what is your message to those who have that concern that there may be a repeat in their community? >> yeah, so during hurricane ian we had a large amount of people that were impacted by that storm and we had teams and personnel that went out into communities across the state and as we heard of stories of maybe pockets of people that we had missed, we immediately sent our teams out into those areas to ensure that they were getting registered for assistance and we were bringing all of the resources that are available and so what i would say is if you hear about groups of individuals in parts of the state that after the storm passes are in need and are not getting it, let me know. i will send the teams to the areas to make sure they are getting the assistance they are eligible for and they need. >> fema, of course, has been dealing with the aftermath of the wildfires in maui and now you are preparing for a very powerful hurricane hitting florida's southwest coast. to what extent is fema overextended, or stretched too thin in dealing with these two natural disasters? >> we are certainly postured and have the staff that are available to support multiple large events at the same time. we do have several open recovery disasters that we can pull some personnel from if we needed to extend or increase the amount of personnel we have. we also have a very layered approach, we can also reach out into all members of the department of homeland security through what we call the surge capacity force for individuals that have volunteered to support during a disaster. and so i'm confident right now that with these two storms we are currently dealing with in maui and this one, or another one to come, we have enough to support the lifesaving efforts. >> last question, alex. >> you mentioned just extreme weather that we have seen all summer from, you know, hawaii, storms in southern california. is this in your view the new normal, just summers where we are seeing these kinds of events more frequently and maybe more intense events than before? >> you know, what i can say is that we don't have a typical operational season like we have had in the past. we would normally prepare our staff to be on extra alert during the peak of hurricane season, where we find ourselves right now, but our operational tempo has been year around. we started with atmospheric rivers in california in january, extreme tornadoes in the spring, to the wildfires and now we are in peak hurricane season. and we have had an unprecedented number of disaster requests from governors because of the extreme weather that they are experiencing. this is our new normal. this is the operational tempo we find ourselves in and we have to continue to invest in mitigation and resilience to help these communities redues the impact from these storms so we don't have such complicate recoveries afterward. >> thank you so much. >> ok, we have about ten minutes before we move for the president's events. >> said he wanted to hold a summit hate crimes in jacksonville, and invited the president and vice president to attend. what was your response for that. >> i believe the date for the summit is still being determined. you've heard this from the president over the past couple of years talking about we are in the battle for the soul of our nation, as a matter of fact that's one of the reasons he decided to run back in 2019 so we'll continue to work with the civil rights leaders, including reverend sharpton to combat the hate. he convened the civil rights leaders yesterday to thank them for the work they have been doing and how critical it is to continue to fight for this battle. >> one more quick thing. kim jong-un called the leaders of the united states, japan and said game bosses, and exercises are under way. any response to those comments? >> first time i've heard those comments. obviously we have said many times, you know, the lines of communication with the dprk remains open. that is something that we are certainly open and willing to have. i just don't have anything to say specifically about those comments. >> another foreign matter, the video of paul whelan that surfaced, how does the white house assess that? >> u.s. officials have spoken with paul within the last several months, i think as you all know that, but it was reassuring to see that he remains and to use his brother's words, unbowed. paul continues to show tremendous courage. that does not change that his circumstances are truly unacceptable and we will continue to be very clear about that. russia should release him immediately and that is something that again, we have been very consistent about. >> thank you, karine. a couple foreign policy questions. the kremlin as you are aware earlier today said putin will not attend prigozhin's funeral, and wondering if there is an update on whether the u.s. thinks putin is behind prigozhin plane crash. >> so i can't speak to president putin attending or not, that's certainly for him to speak to, i'm not going to speak about that from here. i don't have any new assessment for you but it seems pretty evident what happened here, that as the president said this recently, i believe as early as last week, that, and i quote, there's not much that happens in russia that putin is not behind. and if it's -- if this is what it seems to be, this is what certainly was not just predictable, but it was predictable, or predicted, i should say. we all know that the kremlin has a long history of killing its opponents, that is the history of the kremlin, and if we take a step back, if we look back for a second, all of this happened because of dysfunction inside russia. russian war lord himself, a cold-blooded killer, cold-blooded murderer was so frustrated by the way the russian government was waging the unprovoked war against ukraine he criticized russia's failing policies. you heard that directly from him. and so he called out the war's needlessness and marched on moscow before, before reaching a deal with mr. putin. he made that -- we saw that, you all covered it for multiple hours and so now two months later after he struck that deal, he's been killed. so, you know, it's very clear, pretty evident what happened here. don't have anything else to say. >> assessment from the administration -- >> i said it's very clear what happened here. it is very clear. it is very clear. i just laid it out. i don't have any new assessment for you. >> one on china. a secretary's comments that u.s. companies have complained to her that china has become "uninvestable." is that increasingly how this administration is thinking about china when it comes to u.s. companies investing there, or is that really sort of an off the cuff, undiplomatic remark? >> i'm not going to go beyond what the secretary said. she's there, she's the secretary of commerce. obviously she works with businesses across the country on a regular basis. i'm not going to go beyond what she stated. >> to follow up on that, understand the context is clear there, is the administration concluding that putin was behind the death of prigozhin? >> it is very clear. i literally laid out, wait, laid out what the kremlin history has been. i don't have any new assessment. i'm going to leave it to the words i just gave you. >> okay so the administration has no conclusion. >> i just laid out what the history of the kremlin, what mr. putin intends to do. i just laid that out. so it's very clear what happened here. >> thanks, karine. going back to paul whelan, does the u.s. have any idea when the video was filmed? i see it was filmed in may, but is it older? >> i don't have any additional comments to the video. like i said, i can only quote his brother and how he said he seemed unbowed and how courageous paul has been, especially over the last several months and we have been in touch with him. i don't have anything to say specifically to the video. >> tomorrow the president is getting a briefing on the maui wildfires. will that also turn into a briefing on hurricane latest? >> so, just a couple of things on -- so as you just stated, the president tomorrow is going to convene the -- his cabinet and agency officials who are involved in the administration's whole of government response that we have seen in the recovery efforts on maui and hawaii and so he called this meeting, obviously, to get his administration's ongoing efforts on the ground and to work -- the work underway to support the people of maui. clearly he'll also get an update on the current hurricane that we all are keeping an eye on, hurricane idalia, and so that will be part of the conversation, obviously, tomorrow as well. >> thanks, karine. the president yesterday told me he believed victims of -- sorry, families of two out of the thre victims of the jacksonville shooting may be open to a call with him. >> i don't have any calls to lay out at this time or to share. >> congressman scalise announced he's been diagnosed with a form of cancer. do you have a reaction and does the president plan to reach out? >> that's devastating news. our hearts and prayers go out to the congressman and his family. he's gone through a lot over the past couple of years. i don't have a call to lay out or announce, but very sad news and clearly we are hoping for a speedy recovery for him. >> any updates on the president's travelling to jacksonville? >> no travel -- >> and on the -- how is the president planning to message this, do we expect travel in the next couple weeks talking about this specifically, how is he planning to take this message to voters? >> you are going to hear from the president in 20 minutes to talk specifically about this new announcement on the first ten drugs. look, this is an important, important announcement. we'll be talking about, when we are talking about medicare being able to negotiate, laying out ten drugs, this is something, as she was saying moments ago, that folks have been trying to do for 33 years, for decades, and this is a president that's been able to do that, via a provision through the inflation reduction act, i may add was only voted for democrats. we wanted to make sure we were able to do, lower costs, lower healthcare costs for americans across the country. so, it is an important, i think an important day, an important beginning, if you will, of how we are going to move forward with inflation reduction act as it relates to the medicare being able to negotiate you'll hear from the president. obviously the president travels across the country pretty regularly to talk about how he's investing in america, how he's lowering costs for americans, that is one of the, as he speaks about bidenomics, lowering costs for americans is clearly one of his top priorities so you'll continue to hear from the president about this particular issue and other ways that bidenomics is working for american families and the economy as well. justin. >> karine, president putin said he's going to go to china in october, i believe. obviously one of his first trips recently. do you guys have any reaction and is there any concern this might in some way suggest china and russia are growing closer or growing closer on ukraine specifically? >> so look, i'm not going to get ahead of potential travel that another country is going to do with another country, so i'm not going to get ahead of that. we have been very clear about ukraine. our allies have been, our partners. the president has been able to bring together more than 50 countries to help ukraine as they fight in, as we have seen in a very brave way for their freedom for their democracy, and something the president will continue to do as i mentioned at the top as long as it takes. just not going to get ahead of a potential meeting that putin and president xi may have. >> and just schedule-wise, asked about philadelphia yesterday, do you have an update on that or labor day, if the president -- >> don't have any update on philadelphia or labor day, but certainly we will share any potential travel the president may have. >> i have a question first on the meeting this afternoon with president of costa rica. he has expressed interest of joining the north american trade pact between the united states, mexico and canada, curious if that was something the united states would support. >> i'm not going to get ahead of the discussion they may have today, that's going to happen later today. we'll have a readout after the meeting concludes. i will say this, that president biden values costa rica's close collaboration on building out of america's partnership for economic prosperity, so the two leaders are going to discuss how you they can work together to strengthen our economic ties and resilient economies, developing a semiconductor supply chain, so obviously part of the conversation. i'm not going to get into any specifics on the question about usmca. we'll have a readout once the conversation concludes. >> thank you. and do you have any reaction to the decision [indiscernible] political party of the president elect. >> we have congratulated the next president of guatemala as certified by the vote results. united states is deeply concerned with continued actions by those who seek to undermine guatemala's democracy. these efforts undercut the clear will of the guatemalan people, so we stand with our partners against unacceptable efforts. but obviously we congratulate the new elected president. >> karine, a question on the election topic, transgender rights. nikki haley says the idea we have biological boys playing in girls sports, it is the women's issue of our time. did the president agree this is a women's rights issue? >> so, we have talked about this many times. this is the title ix specifically. look, and again, we have talked about this multiple times. it's a complicated issue, and there are a wide range of views on this. the department of education proposed a rule as you know that gives schools flexibility to establish their own athletic policies, and so while establishing guardrails, right, to prevent discrimination against transgender kids and that is something that is incredibly important that the president wants to make sure that we also do that as well. so, i'm just not going to get ahead of that. i said there's a proposed rule and title ix, on title ix, that the department of education has laid out. so i'm just not going to get ahead of that. >> does he care girls are allowed to compete in sports without fear of injury, does eng it's fair for girls to compete against biological males? >> i answered the question, it is a complicated issue. truly a complicated issue with a wide range of views, a wide range of views. there is no yes or no answer to this. it is complicated. there is a rule that the department of education has put forward and we are going to let that process move forward and it is again, we want to make sure that while we establish guardrails with this rule, that we also prevent discrimination as well against transgender kids. but again, a complicated issue with a wide range of views and we respect that. >> thank you so much. latin american question -- >> sandra: she was just taking a question from hillary vaughn about girls having to compete against biological males in their various sports. karine jean-pierre chose to respond to that as she has before, calling it a complicated issue and really not stating definitively where this administration, where the president stands on that. she was referencing the fact the president has granddaughters, obviously that is an issue that we have covered a lot here, john. >> john: it is, and hillary invoked the name of nikki haley, when she asked the question, and nikki haley, presidential candidate, former governor of south carolina, and former ambassador to the united nations, is still with us and thank you for hanging with us. appreciate it. so, hillary vaughn invoked your name and said -- quoted you by saying this idea of biological males playing in female sports is the women's issue of our time. there was a state senator in nebraska who chided riley gaines for speaking out about having to compete against a biological male, lia thomas, saying when we grow up we realize that it's not all about trophies and don't let it sort of become the thing for our life. and i remarked at the time that i don't remember this nebraska state senator ever being a division i ncaa athlete, not quite what foundation she comes from criticizing riley gaines. but we see this is a bigger issue and how big of an issue is this going to play in the presidential election? >> i mean, the first thing i'll say is the biden administration is wrong to say this is a complicated issue. it is not complicated. and we are not going to have to make our daughters get used to the fact that biological boys are in their locker rooms. we are not going to have our daughters work their entire life to excel at a sport and have a biological boy say oh, i can do this, and jump into it and change their entire careers. we are not going to make our daughters go through that. it's not complicated. it's actually pretty simple. biological boys play in boys sports. biological girls play in girls sports. if there is someone who has a challenge and is not sure what they are, pick a separate category for them but we are not going to have biological boys in our girls locker rooms and our girls should not have to expect they are going to compete against biological boys. it's an unfair scenario and there's no situation that is ever going to say it's complicated. it's just flat out wrong. >> sandra: seeing the exchange at the white house with the reporter, ambassador haley, how powerful of an issue do you believe it will become in a 2024 general election match-up. could where the president stand on this sway votes? >> absolutely. i have said from the very beginning, strong girls become strong women. strong women become strong leaders. we are not going to make our girls feel inferior by putting biological boys in their sports as well. they have earned the right to be able to compete at the levels that they compete. they have earned the right to have a fair playing field. these women work really hard to get to the points that they are. we are not going to have it thrown all away because you are worried of hurting the feelings of a biological boy that wants to play in sports but thinks he's a girl. we are not going to have it. it's unacceptable. >> john: a matter of controversy, especially in the recent days. you talked about joe biden's age and say voting for joe biden basically ensuring kamala harris becomes president. jamal hill said it was a statement founded in racism. she said so part of the reason racism is a terrible sickness in the country is because politicians like this know they can rally a certain base, oh, my god, a black woman might be president if you don't vote for me, and then act surprised when they decide they act out of feelings of hatred. what do you say to her, this idea that you saying kamala harris could become president, we should all be fearful of that i think is paraphrasing what you said is racist? >> i mean, she is saying that to a minority female that's running for president. this has nothing to do with kamala's again or or race, but everything to do with kamala's incompetence. if she is president, we are in serious trouble of losing our country. everything she's ever been given, she has failed at. that's not an opinion, that's a fact. show us what she's done on the border. show us what she's done with artificial intelligence, show us what she's done to improve this administration's standings on freedom or the economy or inflation or the border or national security. there is just not anything there. they can say that's racist all they want but the reality is it goes back to what joe biden strategist said last week and y'all reported it in the press. the one person we don't want to run against in a general election is nikki haley. they know they can't call me racist, they can't call out anything i do because i'm their worst nightmare and look, we are going to call it like we see it. a vote for joe biden is a vote for kamala harris. and the thought of a president kamala harris should send a chill up every american spine and i refuse to let that happen, and we are focused on winning. a great response since the debate. we have had just great support going to nikki haley.com and we have a country to save, i'm determined to do it. >> sandra: the attacks on you have ramped up, might be a sign you did something right at the debate. they are trying to take you down from the climb that you have seen in the last few days, a million dollars in the 72 hours following that debate. you have hauled in, we'll keep watching your campaign. nikki haley, thanks for joining us. >> john: thanks, governor. >> tell 'em to bring it. go to nikki haley.com. >> sandra: and vivek ramaswamy sounding the alarm on what he is calling an epidemic of fatherlessness in this country as new data shows the drastic impact it could have on children to grow up without a father in the home. plus this. >> most americans are $400 unexpected expense away from bankruptcy. >> john: in the midst of selling bidenomics, vice president harris admits many americans are one emergency away from facing financial ruin. how does that square with the white house claims of the president's economic policies are helping the middle class? a a a andy will break it down. and also another worried about the economy, coming up. she runs and plays like a puppy again. his #2s are perfect! he's a brand
