[shouting] >> that was the wild scene outside the new york city mayor's mansion yesterday as protestors clashed over the crisis. thousands coming to the cities and living in shelters inside old schools and other buildings. six people were taken into custody as police tried to keep the crowd under control. 100,000 migrants and counting from the southern border have flooded new york. tents near soccer fields on randall's island. people who live and work here are seeing the impact firsthand. >> i think it's terrible. we're trying to bring back workers back into the office and with the situation a couple weeks ago there were camping outside, destroying businesses and people don't want to come back to manhattan. >> so this new poll shows people aren't happy with how things are being handled. 82% of new yorkers say the influx of migrants is a serious problem. 51% of voters disapprove of the job that governor hochul is doing to address the issue. the governor wrote a letter to the president asking for executive action. >> the reality is, we've managed thus far without substantive support from washington. despite the fact that this is a national indeed a federal issue, but new york has shouldered this burden for far too long. >> voters we talked to on the street say there is enough of the finger pointing from both ends. they want to see the federal government, local and state partners come together. one of the other things hochul wants is the federal government to provide work authorizations so the people who are here could get to work. we'll have to see how that plays out. >> mike: thanks very much. for more on this gopac chairman david avella and kevin walling. gentlemen, welcome. so kevin, with 82% in that latest poll saying it's a serious problem. no surprise there is blame game going on between the state, city and pointing the finger at washington. right? >> it is a frustrating situation all around. i'm a democrat on fox news that says we're the crisis point at our southern border and we need to surge resources. i was very supportive of president biden asking for nearly $8 hundred million for dollars in last year's funding to hire for immigration judges to clear out the back load of folks that have come in seeking asylum to process them through, have their day in court and move them along. again, i think it's not just a question of resources, it's a question of manpower and the like. but we also need congress to act. you have a handful of new republican members from new york. i'm hopeful they will work with the administration to address the crisis. at the end of the day we need action from congress. president is ham strung by policies on the books and can only do so much. we need comprehensive immigration reform from this progress. >> mike: if emotions are running that high in new york city about what border towns in texas and arizona and beyond. >> absolutely. you can look at the map. there are 5 or 6 republicans serving in con today because of this issue because they don't see a coordinated voters in new york don't see a coordinated message or policy coming out of the biden administration, the hochul administration and the adams administration all run by democrats. the great irony here is the courts struck down an ability for illegal citizens to get to vote in elections. have that happened more democrats may have lost. they are being put in terrible conditions and might have started voting republican and we could have added to our number. >> mike: where does it go from here? >> it is a crisis point. you are seeing action from governor hochul. more democrats are getting more vocal on this along with mayor eric adams and hopefully push congress to take action. the biden administration hassling to work with republicans on this issue. and again i think what we need is some solutions from congress on this front. >> biden administration caused this problem. they have no idea how to solve this problem. >> mike: president biden's campaign team projecting optimism in the face of miserable polling. gallup has his job approval of 40%. his handling of issues remaining under water. voters are worried about his age. new poll out today shows more than 3/4 of americans say mr. biden is too old to be effective. if reelected. this includes 89% of republicans and 74% of independents 69% of democrats agree. even though he is only 3 1/2 years younger than biden. kevin, that has to concern you. >> listen, i've been with the president recently. he is fired up for the re-election crisscrossing america. he is ready and willing to take the fight to republicans and more than up for this fight. >> like with immigration americans believe the president's policies are why the economy is struggling. until he can turn those numb pearls around he will struggle with re-election. >> mike: age is a factor as we go into the new re-election campaign. gentlemen, thanks very much. >> good to see you. >> mike: thank you very much for watching "the faulkner focus." i'm mike emanuel in for harris today. interference. two sides are proposing vastly different timelines. jack smith wants to start this coming january as the republican primary swings into high gear. mr. trump's defense says it wants more time to review all the evidence and asking for a start date in 2026. trump has three other trials looking for space on his calendar. >> these trial dates are also going to move. it is unrealistic and mentioned, jack smith the special counsel wants this to begin in january 2024 in just a few months. trump's team said it is outrageous and they don't have enough time to prepare for that. they are proposing april of 2026. not even a little bit over 2 1/2 years away. the judge said that's not going the happen. she said 2026 is out of the question. she is leaning toward an earlier trial and one of the main reasons as she announced a few minutes ago she said the former president is constantly posting about this case whether it be witnesses or information or other pertinent facts of this case and says it may taint the jury pool the longer it is out there before it heads to trial. donald trump's attorneys are making the argument that listen, they have 12.8 million pages of discovery to go through. the evidence presented to them by the special counsel's office. the majority of the key documents, about 47,000 pages, but still, 12.8 million pages they say they simply cannot get this done in that amount of time. shifting gears to georgia, mark meadows is the former chief of staff of donald trump. he have argues that his case should not be in state court in atlanta. it should be brought to federal court because he was a federal employee when this happened. a judge in georgia expected to make some sort of decision on that today. the former president has not moved to change his venue from local to federal but federal would expand the jury pool and also might keep the case and trial off camera. in state court in georgia you can watch all these proceedings unfold. in federal court >> it is a crisis point. you are seeing action from governor hochul. more democrats are getting more vocal on this along with mayor eric adams and hopefully push congress to take action. the biden administration hassling to work with republicans on this issue. and again i think what we need is some solutions from congress on this front. >> biden administration caused this problem. they have no idea how to solve this problem. >> mike: president biden's campaign team projecting optimism in the face of miserable polling. gallup has his job approval of 40%. his handling of issues remaining under water. voters are worried about his age. new poll out today shows more than 3/4 of americans say mr. biden is too old to be effective. if reelected. this includes 89% of republicans and 74% of independents 69% of democrats agree. even though he is only 3 1/2 years younger than biden. kevin, that has to concern you. >> listen, i've been with the president recently. he is fired up for the re-election crisscrossing america. he is ready and willing to take the fight to republicans and more than up for this fight. >> like with immigration americans believe the president's policies are why the economy is struggling. until he can turn those numb pearls around he will struggle with re-election. >> mike: age is a factor as we go into the new re-election campaign. gentlemen, thanks very much. >> good to see you. >> mike: thank you very much for watching "the faulkner focus." i'm mike emanuel in for harris today.
