[laughter] it is okay to analyze it in different ways. there are eight guys out there. you could land a knockout punch, except for the champ is not in the ring on this one. you can do yourself a little bit of good and start to build some momentum. d santos and haley were probably best at that. keep it rolling through the next few weeks is the issue. >> agreeing with me that desantis had the best performance and a pull backed up by the washington post, would that person be making much headway against the person that was the front runner, donald trump. >> that is a great question. nothing has really changed in terms of the dynamics. what i found fascinating is google searches for ramaswamy. who was this guy. he is on the ground in iowa this weekend. larger crowds. howard: let's face it, no one had heard of him six months ago. >> nikki haley raising more money than any other day since she announced her race. does it mean a whole heck of a lot compared to donald trump and his standing in the republican polls? probably not. >> since you brought up ramaswamy. having a great time out there. interesting to watch him. he had a rough exchange with nikki haley. at take a look. >> defund israel. >> let me address. i'm glad you brought that up. [cheering and applause] >> these are pretty serious questions. israel, saying ukraine is not a party to the u.s. ramaswamy, it was pretty serious stuff. >> this is the downside to coming in as a newcomer. you have some fresh takes, may be speaking to less experienced observers which is part of the electric. that can be great but then you do get vetted on your ideas. haley is speaking to something she has extensive experience with. it shows. helpful in the exchange. she and desantis to which i reference earlier, they're both talking about things they have done. ramaswamy does not have that advantage at this moment. >> he got grilled on two sunday shows today. he is a natural debater. you have to give them credit for being at the center of that stage. does the media understand how we senses this sweet spot of the gop base? >> that is a good question. i think he is more in sync than anyone on the debate stage. that is why he is taking so much incoming. sixteen different attacks. no one knew about them four years ago, ramaswamy, he was not prepared to run four years ago like nikki haley or ron desantis was. >> nobody knew about them four minutes ago. [laughter] >> on the issues of whether voters knew of him, the sophisticated ones interested in some of the policies they are, he has been on the target of this esg self for quite some time. i think for a lot of them that was the entrée into their lives. >> i was just going to say, kevin, he said three times the climate change agenda is a hoax. extreme weather, is this what we will be arguing about? >> i think so. i think he is out of sync with a lot of republicans. young republicans in this country, key voting in these elections, they care about climate change. i think he is out of step for a lot of those views. we will see if it hurts him. >> desantis had his strongest moment of his debate and maybe the first half which was to short-circuit a hand raising question on this issue. gop voters actually want to hear and energy debate. want to hear debate about how you deal with disasters. how you leverage government's power to do those things well. he just said we will have that debate. were not required to have the religious belief question, we will have this debate and i think that worked well for him. >> happy to debate it, but i don't want to just raise my hand what are the facts he told us or did not tell us about the willingness of the modern base to move on from trump or at least be open to persuasion? >> the fact that nearly 13 americans tuned and was very surprising to me. i thought it would be a lot less without trump. he was the star. i think it shows that there is at least an interest in hearing what these candidates are saying as we kick off the election season and this really is a start of the election season. howard: the downside for donald trump, if there was a downside for not showing up. which is, you know, the spotlight shined a little more brightly on people like ramaswamy. again with ramaswamy, he challenge others to join him. giving donald trump a preemptive pardon. the crowd went wild. >> one of the issue with his candidacy is he is running so close to donald trump that you get a little confused about why he is running. he says he is the greatest president of the century. i think that that is an issue for him. i do think it matters a bunch of people watch this. may be talking about not trump is not a bad idea. there's a lot going on in this country. he gave people that space to breathe. >> i think it was a good call. it allowed for a lot of substance. and a lot of yelling and one-liners that you see in any debate, dominating this thing. for a few minutes, he did and that it was moving on to something else. also, not applying to state cases. it is an admission of guilt. i don't know if the foreign president would want to do that. you can understand why television is drawn to ramaswamy he is funny. he talks very fast. even faster than i do. but i am reminded of other people who sort of shot to the top of the polls when they were brought in. a surgeon from baltimore or canaan, the pizza guy or michelle bachmann. it seems like the primary voters fall in love for a while and then fall out of it. is that a fair assessment? >> great question. a candidate catches fire, rises in the polls and the scrutiny comes. spending and amount of time with him in his home, going to events the tape prove that he was wrong the campaign says that they were taking grossly out of context. joe rogan came to his defense. i spoke with the spokeswoman and she says, does not believe the government is telling us everything they know about what happened on that day. does not have all the facts. telling me specifically, the only thing is saudia arabia's involvement not some crazed conspiracy theory. there is this sort of cleaning up of this entire issue. it would not be the first time something was taken out of context. it looks like a page out of the trump playbook. the debate is you are talking earlier. all the attention, 2015, we also saw trump engaging conspiracy theories but from a skeptical standpoint. their questions about this. i'm not saying i believe it. i'm just saying that we know enough. by the way, a trump supporter in 2016 and now he is immolating very much what trump did to get elected. >> he does have that style. he throws out a lot of seemingly inflammatory comments. the other day, caitlin collins interviewed and later on twitter he called her a -- which i thought was beneath him running for president. as you know, he was on nbc and cnn this morning. both very contentious interviews asking him do you acknowledge that white supremacy exist? it would be a shame if we had to call the president of the united states to witness that. >> another manipulation tack dick. if it was not for the last name biden, their client would already be imprisoned and swiftly prosecuted. if any of this were legit we never would've gotten to this point. he would be imprisoned instead of doing cocaine at the white house. this is all just theater to me. they have been using these manipulation tactics the entire time. there is political pressures from the right specifically coming from former president trump. you acquiesce in charge hunter biden. it just looks like you are bending the knee and you don't have a backbone. this is just theater to me. if joe biden were to be on the witness stand, can you will only understand what that would be like. >> it would be a media circus. kevin, this is a story documented with e-mails from two major news organizations. a little coverage on cnn, nothing on csn bc. your thoughts. >> there is an old saying, sue everybody.
