tomlinson at the white house, and we're getting read not only the significance of this day. and this weekend but again we're knee-deep in a political season that's starting off pretty early pretty feisty. lucas. >> that's right neil to put it mildly now democratic leaders don't want to talk about a primary challenge to president biden they say his nomination is set in stone. >> president biden is the democratic nominee along with vice president harris. and if you look at both parties, when they have an incumbent president that incumbent president participates and it goes back to reagan and ford. >> let's go back to 1976 when ronald and reagan and then scored a big upset win in north carolina. the nomination was not settled until the gop convention in kansas city that year. perhaps your next guest thinks he can pose a similar primary challenge to president biden now biden co-chair won't mitt to a debate in the general election. >> we have not had a conversation about that at all. sure, one day we will. reporter: perhaps the democrats don't want to see similar to what we saw in milwaukee tim scott told you yesterday was antisocial behavior. >> what we saw on the stage was chaos. a food fight helped two groups, number one, the national media -- they love it when republicans fight. the road to socialism runs right through the divided republican party and number two, joe biden and everybody else is working on the reelection -- >> now perhaps talk of covid vaccine mandates coming back and face mask returning could breathe more life into the rfk jr. campaign. neil. neil: you know lucas for a young guy you have an awesome knowledge of history. you know that? >> thank you, neil. neil: remind me of a nerve but smoother but remarkable lucas tomlinson he really is like a walking encyclopedia and as he pointed out robert kennedy is showing joe biden will skip debates with him but rfk goes a little bit further than that from his chat with me. take a look. >> well we're going to keep asking for a debate. i don't know whether we're going get one. i think it's, you know, there's so many people we're living in an era now neil where there's so many people who have lost faith in democracy they think this is is rigged. that the economics system is rigged that the political system is rigged. i think it is really important that we have elections in both political parties. that look like real democracy where there's retail politics, where the politicians have to actually go out and meet american public where eve this to debate opponents. where we are distinguishing ourselves from the old soviet union, where the party would choose, you know, party -- neil: do you feel robert that part of it you're kind of a problem in that environment? not you individually but you're a man without a political island here that you have many in your own party many of your own family -- who are agas at running for president and challenging incumbent democratic president an you've seem to be greeted with manien the right and appear on the joe rogen podcast, you have said you like a lot of what you've heard out of vivek ramaswamy ron desantis as in the past suggested you as ideal fta head. that there does seem to be more interest in respect for you on the republican side than the democratic side. what do you think? >> all right. i think look -- the issues that i stand for and you compare them to, for example, the issues that my father robert kennedy my ology the john f. kennedy stood for you can do down the line and check every one of them. i'm a traditional kennedy democrat traditional liberal. antiwar skeptical of the military complex, i want the financial, economic policies to be -- to respond to the working poor, the working class in this country rather than to the needs of wall street. i want press freedom, freedom of speech many this country all of the things that the environment clean environment and woman's right to autonomy all of the issues that are traditional liberal issues are issues that i believe in in and fighting for. >> some are trying to copy you when it comes to even little things like physical workouts i noticed that vivek ramaswamy has his own workout video a shirtless tennis scene i'm thinking of you with the weight lifting thing and i'm wondering what you started here. [laughter] >> well, i don't know. i haven't seen -- i haven't seen vivek without his shirt on. but -- >> working out with his wife he's big many working out you are as well. souls there but i workout myself but that's enough about me. but you started something and i don't know who is next or what's next. but this is important to a lot of folks maybe a response to, you know, vaccine older guys leading each ticket for the time being. >> well, you know my uncle john kennedy when he became president he launched president council and physical fitness because he believed it was important for americans to be in shape. and today, we have a highest chronic disease burden on earth we need to start caring for ourselves and i think, you know, it's good for -- our political leadership whether it is vivek or whoever to, you know, to try to inspire the american politic to get back in shape. neil: robert f. kennedy jr. pressure on my next guest asa hutchison presidential candidate did very well but the obvious pressure mow is what he's going to do in the exercise video he joins us now from arkansas. governor, good to have you. well you have rfk doing and you've had vivek ramaswamy -- do you feel or does your staff pressure you to put out an exercise video or something like that to show that you can do this too? >> well, you know, first of all that brought back a lot of memories. your conversation of robert kennedy jr., whenever president kennedy he got elected and he encouraged everybody to take the 50-mile hike the marine hike. well i was what, 13 at the time and i didn't make 50 miles but i made 35 mile at that age so presidents can inspire on physical fitness it is a model they follow everybody who knows me i play full court basketball i did that everywhere i went while i was governor. and i work out regularly. now, i haven't put on a video yet, though -- neil: okay. my idea was to push miniature golf governor but i'm told that doesn't electrify people but i'll hold off on that one but the debate. you did well and celebrated yourself from many particularly when it came to how you would respond to donald trump should he be convicted on any of these counts that are coming up in the multiple cases. that did not go down well with that audience. not across the board, and, of course, on other statements you made. but that is not a popular position in the party. what do you think of that? >> well, when the question is would you support donald trump if he's convicted of serious felonies and i'm the only one that was clear on that, actually. and without any hesitation. now, after the debate, we had received almost 4,000 new donors as a result of my debate appearance. we got a small bump in the polls, and i think that will continue. so you know, you've got to do what abraham lincoln talked about, and that is find solid ground and stand firm. i'm in the right place i stand firm, and i think that's important. neil: i think abraham lincoln put out a workout video if i'm not mistaken chopping down trees or something i'm kidding. but let me step back and look at race because it's about following donors and whether they're committing to you and small donors at that whether they're committing to you and supporting you. but there's a weeding out to go on here. i had the new hampshire governor with me chris who said those who don't look like they have a chance should step down sooner rather than later. how do you feel about that? >> well, his time frame was in the winter, and we always try not to get ahead of ourselves here and i do think that it is important to make the debate stage, and we made the debate stage a lot of people didn't think we were going to make it. and now we've got to up the game to be on the reagan library debate that will be in september and we're on target to make. i fully expect to be there and we have momentum we have almost our donor limit already and so then it's a question of making sure in the right place in the polls but it is up to your listeners, and we've got some help and i think we're going to be able to continue and be there in the debate engage in it and catch momentum. neil: you know, governor as the debate was going on, i know there were billboards around the milwaukee area featuring joe biden and democrats talking about abortion and that you and many your cohorts are on the wrong side of history on this issue. you try to deleanuate between a six week period to have abortions versus 15 weeks which is kind of keeping it in most of the western world is. where are you on that, sir? >> well first of all, from a campaign political stand point and a fall election you have to contrast the republican views versus the democrat view and joe biden is pushing for a national policy on abortion. that is unrestricted -- and so you contrast that with our position that it's most likely be remain in the states but if there is a national policy, you're going to have reasonable restrictions. but you're also going to have reasonable exceptions. there has to be a consensus form and that's generally done at the state level. so our position has to be sold quite frankly i thought nikki haley did a nice job talking about the compassionate side of it. where we've got to remember how increasing maternal health care where we've got to make sure that we provide additional adoption services because these are challenges and we've got to meet them with compassion. >> real quick on that vivek ramaswamy got a lot of buzz, a lot of attention, a lot of support apparently a lot of money. from his performance but i'm told you and some of your colleagues up there didn't flip over and particularly his comment that you're all bought and paid for all of that, and he went after all of you guys. got a lot of attention. how do you feel about him? >> well, i think he's out of step. i think he's someone that is fronting for donald trump whenever you look at the fact that he's only one clearly wants to promise a pardon during middle of a political campaign. whenever he has an isolationist view of america, whenever he wants to dismantle, you know, and i wanted to reform. but you know he just basically wants to dismantle 100 different ages in the federal government. so it is just unreasonable positions that he's taking. it's getting him a lot of attention. but whenever you're simply attacking your own opponents your advantage is not helpful. >> asa hutchison thanks. >> in the meantime here following money and donors and what they're doing, and whether that could be signaling what happens next in the next big fox debate in california. with an affordable home loan from newday, you can pay cash and own the car or truck of your dreams. ♪ hit it ♪ ♪ it takes two to make a thing go right ♪ ♪ it takes two to make it outta sight ♪ ♪ one, two, get loose now ♪ ♪ it takes two to make a... ♪ stay two nights and get a $ 50 best western gift card. book now at bestwestern.com. type 2 diabetes? >> well, look, i really think there are four credible candidates coming out of this. i think ron desantis although couldn't say had an amazing debate night. i think he held on to his own and seem to have picked up sol support got some good money out of that. ramramaswamy polarizing an interesting to see how it develops over the next month or so with some controversial views. and nikki haley was really quite strong. right, and i think tim scott a little more subdued but still when i look at the washington post poll a lot of -- a lot of republican vote reverse still open to him. those four seem to be the go forward candidates to me. neil: interesting, noel some early sentiment reflects what mark said i had one guest earlier who said -- ron desantis secures his number one spot for being number two, and i wonder what you make of that. >> well, with respect to -- [silence] concept to ramaswamy like a tongue tie on this one, but with vivek what i am noticing is he's not criticizing donald trump. he's also got another thing very in common with donald trump. right before i went on your program i thought you know what, i'm going to check thing out really fast i see how much he's raised and how much desantis has raised and pretty much parallel but there's a big difference here. number one, his average donor is 38 dollars. you know what that signifies to me that's momentum. that is something that's building. that is what barack obama had and look where he got. that is what donald trump had and look where he got. and also he's not been critical as you said of donald trump and donald trump also said it was a good night for vivek. so that's something to look at as well. the other comparison is earlier you had a major donor on your show. pretty much that's helping ron delaware san desantis. right think about a big major donor coming on, you know, speaking of the virtues of ron desantis you don't have that for vivek he's more of the grassroots candidate and apparently voters are thirsty for grass root candidates what we don't know about because look at all of the seasoned people on that stage. and vivek is wiping the floor with it. now, i do agree that out of this debate you have some real sharp players. nikki haley really for the only woman on stage she held her own and had a fundraising moment. desantis, of course, look at desantis's background and what he did for florida, of course, he's going to have a bye. you saw life breathed into, you know, mike pence used to be made fun of as a potted plant for donald trump. he actually had some fire and you saw the qualifications of not only asa hutchison and chris christie and tim scott that were on display at the debate. so i think it was a great night for everyone that's looking for alternatives to donald trump. but if donald trump doesn't make the stage, you've got to ask yourself neil whereby where all of these small donors going? and where is that base going and right now i think it's going to come down to the two which are desantis and vivek and right now vivek is showing that grassroots momentum. >> you you know let me ask you t small donors support and you know this more than i had and barack obama had this in his case against hillary clinton and that started with small small ds and donors period do you see that happening here to anyone of those candidates? >> no. i think they're all raising good low dollar money. but you know, back when i was working with hillary clinton even in 2008 it was five or 10 million after debate. they brought in a million they're showing good support it is the first time people saw them. you know, again, i think vivek you know, he was really tagged on some of these issues. you know, particularly by nikki haley and foreign policies. is he going to be a bomb or a boomlet? there's if you go back to the previous republican primaries, there was always, you know, someone who looked like they were going to come on. so we'll see. i think in the next month whether vivek is for real or whether or not he fades relatively quickly. the other -- other three candidates i think have really substantial, you know, experience, backgrounds, and really interesting, though, that desantis didn't do as well as he did given that he had a kind of -- i would say a mildly positive debate coming out of there. neil: mildly positive sound like my dad what's problem with the b on the report card as if. well a dividing line could end up being ukraine. they're not along the same page those candidates far from it. after this -- >> i'm not going to sending troops to ukraine but i'm going to send them to our southern border when these drug pushers are bringing fentanyl across the border -- >> let's fire the 87,000 irs a littlings -- agents and hire border patrol agents. >> disastrous to protect against invasion across somebody else's border to use resources to prevent across the invasion of our own southern border here in the united states of america. >> all right all candidates talked about border here's a guy who is stwail working there and knows all of stuff that's happening there. bret koh county sheriff great to have you. great to be back here. they talked about border and helping at the border doing something about the border. what did you think? >> there definitely needs to be something done because current administration is doing absolutely nothing. that's all rhetoric and shuffling numbers to look like something is being done and in reality there's nothing being done xepght for the few governors who have stood up or sending support. >> can i tell you -- i saw this and i didn't know real skinny on this opening up the border fence. and the reasons behind that, because i understand from weather and other reasons, and a lot of people are going through that fence now. >> from what i saw the other day, it is obvious there's holes cut in the fence. i'm thinking thattroopers have been moved to other locations trying to prevent entering over here and down here so focus back on the central location where the majority of the people are trying to cross which right there in the pass but as you can see in that video there -- the florida troopers are here trying to help out. it's kind of a -- no win situation but it is pretty damn close. >> so i'm just thinking sheriff if i get wind there's open fence i'm going to go to that fence. >> yeah. exactly that's what, of course, our resources are stranded more of them than there are of us and it is really tough. i've been on the line for years, and at times -- you just have to do what you have to do and put that finger in the right hole to keep that from breaking. >> you know with hear a lot from the administration sir about well this is better than it was, and that actual are going down. sense you're there you would know what's the truth? >> aren't going down and shuffling numbers from what i can tell and going through the ports of entry they're not counting them they're counting ones coming across the border illegally and see holes in arizona and in the valley, and l they're saying that encounters yes they are down, however, there's fewer people in the field to make these encounters so when you pull resources off the line to do something else yes your encounters will go down and number of people are not slowing down. >> you don't have an easy job that's an understatement but i appreciate you trying to share the skinny on what's going on. brad koh texas county sheriff you do not mess with that sheriff. that's why i can ask you tough questions because i'm remote sheriff but thank you again for joining us. >> thank you for having me on. appreciate it. neil: if that issue about -- spending more money to deal with what's going on at border -- all started with talking about funding for ukraine, and whether we need it ended up being a far beggar issue in that debate than we thought. >> is there anyone on stage who would not support the increase of more funding to ukraine? >> first of all, i think they sort of reflect a majority to american people eight people on that stage six of them supporting funding for ukraine. two opposing the most credible polls out -- in the last 60 rays from reagan institute and gallop and they have supporting for ukraine around 60%. went a little bit underneath that and house is split, sw some of the republican os posing and very vehicle minority but likely 24 billion supplemental put before them and supplemental may change but that 24 billion in support in ukraine would likely pass both houses. so i think going forward to support for ukraine will be there. and certainly i'm not suggesting that this is easy. and i think the subject should be debated. i mean this is an important issue. this is american taxpayers dollars, neil. i do think it represents over 6.5 trillion budget 100 billion including new supplemental of 24 billion would represent 100 billion out of that which is 1.5%. of that budget and when you think of the money that federal government throws away in that 6.5 trillion budget as we know full well this is an investment. ukraine now has 83% of its territory under its control. half of the russian combat forces in the russian military have been destroyed as a result of this war. that is quite a return on the investment in my view. neil: general when donald trump talks about he would settle this in one day ron desantis buys notion maybe this could be good money going after bad and much raimenter see it repurpose at the border vivek ramaswamy seems to be saying -- kind of that same thing there. obviously, it reflects -- skiddishness among those that want to be president. does that concern you? >> well, that isolationist view of solve problems at home and don't invest in global security which is -- the national security as a part that have has been in american pleks for years sometimes it is on a democratic side sometimes it is on republican side. i think most americans look at it and see that -- america is a global leader in the world and our economy is a number one in the world and it is tied to the world out there. it is tied to the world economy. our economic prosperity comes from our involvement in the world and we protected ourselves in the pacific region all of these years before china rose up and became so aggression in the southeast asia and south korea grew in prosperity why because military presence kept the region stable so there's a correlation between the united states helping the maintain stability in the world and there have, global economy grows and american economy benefit and american people's quality of life and prosperity increases as a result of it. i think most people see the connection. and isolationist listen, they're entitled to their view, and the argument should be respected. but i don't agree with it and most americans don't. neil: curious development we're following or maybe i'm obsessed with it too much general. they have identified eight of the ten bodies in that jet crash. that supposedly involved wagner group eight of those ten remains have been identified. so far as of yet, no i don't to sound like alarmist here. but what if he did dodge that? what if he was on another flight? what if he's still alive? [laughter] >> i side with you on this. when it comes to russia neil we just can't count on anything. these are -- some of the most boldface liers in the world. everything they do is for propaganda purpose and always got deception and fair disagree disingenuous to what they're up to and who know what is the mysteries are here and i was not aware of what you just revealed but that strookes cord with me and -- i'm skeptical just like you are. and we have good reason to be. neil: right. >> you can't trust these guys. that's just a fact. you cannot trust them. neil: but if he isn't and you're indulging me because you're a class act general but if he isn't it does raise a whole other series of issues presumably he was a target of this. i know vladimir putin denied it and kremlin denied it and something caused explosion on that jet we don't know what. but something did. so if he's not dead -- and the wagner group is still very much aforce what could that mean going forward? >> i think putin really followed up and looks like on what he felt he had to do and he is trying to protect himself for power centers and what are they? the least that surround them and that support him number one, his secret services that are all powerful and control in population and provide him information he needs. third, the military which protects the state and the fourth is the people themselves, and his propaganda machine, his false narrative is always working on that every single day. he had to take out pri gozin if risings again, the threat comes back. and weakens because they'll accuse of making attempt and having failed at that. >> but he probably succeeded i think if they went to the trouble of trying to take down aircraft with the risk of hurting civilian population as it crashes and killing people onboard as well like the crew and others have nothing to do to they knew he was on the plane. i mean, just like when we took soleimani in the vehicle we knew he was on the plane. and afterall russia controls air space in russia as the united states was controlling the air space in iraq that soleimani was flying. i think they probably at least had a very good verification that he was on that airplane. neil: we don't know for sure we shall see but general you're the best and polite and whacky resume they have identified eight of the ten on tray tragic jet crash have indeed been identified two other corpses they are examining as we speak mow. it is just -- interesting that at this point prigozin not he himself identified. we will naturally pass that along. in the meantime passing along this on the 60th anniversary of the march on washington, the famous course by martin lootser king his nice will be joining us alveda king on the significance on this day a message after decades that might be lost on some folks. after this. ir finances. smart bankers. convenient tools. boom. one bank with the power of both. chase. make more of what's yours. planning to move? >> well i wasn't a little girl i was a teenage girl, and i got married in 1969 by the way. so actually, i did not attend the march my parents did. ad and naomi king i attended a few months later a children's march so i was already a youth organizer in the 60s. marching i even went to jail for fair housing but this is what changed neil. that movement was founded in god in the christian church most of the meetings occurred in churches. prayer meetings, strategy meetings, it was led by baptist preachers and other denominations catholic presbyterian sometimes muslims certainly jews came together with a love for god, a fear of god. so what left the movement over the next few years was that love and fear of god coming together as brothers and sisters. i believe we're back. i attend so many prayer meetings and prayer calls nowadays that everything that's happening in america. without that prayer, and martin luther king message came out of the bible but has to be taught in every generation decade on every platform. and so you know, long hot summer i produced positive songs i've been in the studio with songs and music videos for instance, so we have to counter evil with good neil. and so when we disagree, we're not supposed to hate each other. that's the thing that we're missing. >> you know, though -- alveda was remarkable about you, obviously, martin luther king, jr. was assassinated your own father -- died under questionable circumstances. i believe your mother at the time had said there's no doubt in my mind that the system killed my husband. >> she said it. neil: i wonder -- looking at all of your experiences, and the threats that developed over the years -- why no bitterness? >> my own grandmother don't forget planted a church and she was shot so go ahead with your question -- >> it was just that -- neil: no anger from you. >> just love, forgiveness, i have to forgive. it's not easy because i have a very bad temper actually god help me i'm angry, i'm mad. and so -- when that happens, i honestly pray i tell you the truth i do. and then i repent america needs to repent we all need to repent no not if you do no just repent. >> you can never be a good italian. we get angry about everything alveda and we told grudges long and we forget what grudges are about but alveda thank you all of these years talking to you. have a wonderful and helicoptered good health my friend if m >> you too. >> call presence and the family stays together everyone still celebrates thanksgiving like they do in the kennedy family it is possible. but we live in crazy times don't we?
