>> the problem with what biden says as he takes the playbook from obama. he starts apologizing before he tries to show strength. this absolutely is about china but the idea that we can get japan, south korea, the u.s. together scares china. that is exactly what we want. the idea we are going to work together more with them on tech, on military, on exercises those are things china does not want. the last thing china wants is a nato in the middle east. we want to make sure we are focused on any think we need to do to get with our allies. it should not just be south korea and japan it should be australia. should be india, it should be israel. it should be the air countries. so yes, i hope china's nervous. but i doubt that they are because he apologized before he ever got started with the speech. shannon: we are deeply intertwined with china economically and in many ways when you are trade issues we are dependent on them for creek radical medications and minerals in those types of things we talked about the fact we want to decouple from them as much as we can. but how in reality could we do that? of this cloud over someone who is currently the front runner. this puts the voters in a terrible position for the going to have to make a decision. our democracy is on counting them to get it right. shannon: the poll shows as he is leading the peggy, 5:30 seven points if it gets a next contender governor desantis. seems like voters have already made this into their decision regrets that is right, shannon, we have seen since the first case was filed against trump in march and new york his elite has only grown. it is important to understand that as among his base and primary voters in terms of who could turn out for the presidents and to note that desantis has had some struggles along the way. this debate coming up on wednesday is going to be a chance for desantis to show whether or not some of the changes he has made in his campaign and at his pack have actually studied his case to be president. but as you said trumps base has rallied around him when it comes to his legal battles and he has combined his legal battles with his effort to become president again. shannon: interesting this morning there's a deep dive in politico that talks about the other legal story that we have been following this one is with hunter biden. that year swung back and forth with the investigation, the plea deal and at one point they are reporting that one of hunter biden's attorney said if you move forward with charges against hunter we are going to put president biden on the stand. kevin, the story gets stranger and stranger every day. truth really in there as a presidential campaign is stranger than fiction. >> it really is. last weekend i was in iowa where you are now, shannon. just working on policies on a deal with republican field. the invariable comment from islands was contrast how president trump is being treated for even if they themselves do not plan to vote for him in the iowa caucus, with how hunter biden is being treated. heritage family we have done a lot of analysis for example david weiss being special counsel he has no business being special counsel. supposed to come from outside the department of justice. this is the point. in every single aspect of the hunter biden story he is being treated with kid gloves while the former president of the united states i think in terms of t the legal trouble he is in, but it seems as if we are living in a banana republic. shannon: is interesting to note some like warmer attorney general bill barr who talked of it has had on the show many times he thanks there is a taint of a political persecution to some of this but that some of these criminal allegations are serious legitimate charges whether that is state or federal we are now going up to watch as the all play out. as lucas had in his reporting our new poll shows a majority of americans do think president trump did something illegal. but they also have a problem with the biden's here's some polling. whewhat comes was a foreign business president biden's not going after president trump ali's indictments both he and a center under investigation as well. >> that is right. but it is not clear to me the current president's wayward son and whatever he did, he may have done something not just wrong but illegal. it is not as compelling to democrats as what the former president has done. there is a difference. there is nothing that directly ties any of hunter's potential wrongdoing directly to president biden. shannon: the republican members on the hill who disagree with that. they have yet to come forward with the concrete links but that is h oral argument it's not jusa first set is potentially someone involves the president as well we will wait and see us as investigations continue. >> right but your point is well taken. they have yet to come forward with any such evidence. there is a difference between saying you have got a troubled child in your family that might generate some sympathy for parents in this country. but i think there is a big difference between that and saying oh gosh, this man has been indicted four times. he has a lot of behavior whether it is claiming the 2020 election falsely claiming it was stolen. the lies that he tells but this week using the term rigors in a very racist manner. this can turn off voters when you go back to those polls there are some voters who are committed to trump apparently even in the high number he currently gets among gop primary voters there are some who might be peeled off i think that is what we are going to see going into the debate. shannon: okay in the meantime president biden's reelection campaign is underway at the polls also show he is underwater on nearly every issue out there from the economy and inflation to the border to foreign policy. he hasn't uphill battle to convince voters in effect a majority of americans want to put up an economic poll here they think bidenomics the campaign is embracing they think it is but up americans we must see that on wednesday night. shannon: juan, what are you watching for on wednesday night out of milwaukee? >> i think kevin is right. desantis has slipped he had the off. it's a little bit of a reflection whe will be out today haven't seen a lot of the events i have been doing i think it is still more rare than it's not. shannon: candidates have been there for months there are no questions about whether there could be some late entrance into the race people who have not spent the time here. xes reporting big gop donors are pushing for a trump alternative. it's a virginia governor and georgia governor brian kemper getting secret overtures from establishment republicans and have not ruled out running. so would it be too late question rick would iowans be open to someone who's missed the fair who has missed the events? >> we have a great field right now would probably don't need more would probably need less that's what we do without a caucus our role is not to protect the winter but to start to narrow the field. these candidates have put in a lot of time we had a great field of candidates. and i think probably we don't need more at this point. shannon: had commanding reelection when much like desantis 19 port margins were not without your critics here. i want to talk with some issues going on here in iowa. on the issue books been taken to school arby's those kind of things danger separates this the law signed by iowa governor kim reynolds in may is yet another piece of astroturf right wing legislation aimed at limiting gender nonconformity, antiracism and basic reproductive education from schools while solidifying the power of the conservative family unit. are you banning buck set up information on basic reproductive education? what snow we are banning books that are pornography that have pornography in them. and i am telling you parents do not want their young kids exposed to that. as i talk to parents i am all over the fairgrounds i'm all over the set to go to all 99 counties. look at the register poll by overwhelmingly majority probably over 60% what their kids have called the education they do not want the teachers and the school boards providing that kind of information to their kids. and so it let's focus on reading, writing, civics and math make sure we are preparing these kids to be successful. let the parents decide what they're going to teach their kids when it comes to social issues but in addition to that we can't teach our kids to hate this country and hate each other based on the color of their skin again let's just get back to the basics we are not what we should be paid we kept our kids in school we were one the first states that got her kids back in the classroom. we did not see the truth the dramatic learning lots a lot of states it kept the kids out of the classroom for two years they kept us kids out of the classroom. that way the mental health but they declined and learning loss they are experiencing. so let's really come together and focus on what we should be doing as educators we got great educators in the state of iowa that are doing that paperless really focus on getting his kids where they need to be. shannon: i've met some of them at the fair today celeste they are hung to texas tomorrow is that correct? at the number gop governors out there you got national guard down at the border. i want to read something from a letter and i went wrote to the ames attribute he said it's unchristian what's happening at the border he said life is a sacred to you you're going to work with another governor who says life is sacred but the policy is about razor wire in rivers maiming innocent people brutal defenseless situations. ordered not to provide water and extreme temperatures to people in need and even to take it away. what do you say about those policies and how to answer that question are. >> for so they're not accurate them and provided misinformation that is actually not true. i believe governor abbott we were going to a down it went to the press conference and be able to demonstrate to the media what these actually do. what is on humanitarian as prispresident biden's unwillings to address the open border and the crisis we are seeing at the southern border. it is unconscionable the number of young girls and women that are being exposed to used as sex traffickers and what they're doing to these children is what is unconscionable. the number of drugs coming across the border and infiltrating our state. every state is a border state right now it's not just texas. we are seeing tremendous increases in the number of drugs, fentanyl, meth, and cocaine 500% increase in fentanyl just since 2020. that is what is unconscionable but we are going down to help governor abbott secure this border. that is a constitutional duty of the president and he is not fulfilling his constitutional duty to protect this country and its citizens. shannon: will track a visit down the meantime thank everyone for hosting us at the fair here in iowa if you haven't been folks it's a once-in-a-lifetime progress it is an amazing fair thank you. >> everything so much. shannon: coming up insight from journalists here on the ground covering the kent singh reaction from people in real time. find out about that when fox "fx news sunday" the fair about the importance of iowa as he attempts to grain ground. we are back in july with two journalists who know iowa inside and out. kathie obradovich editor-in-chief of the out capitol dispatch and galen bacharier politics reported for the "des moines register" thank you both for being here this morning. i heard governor reynolds 8% how important what endorsement from herbie? like to be huge for the candidate. but the reason why art usually endorse she endorses somebody who doesn't when the caucuses or does not win the nomination. it goes on to win the nomination for that person's head of the party now and does not really like how they were treated in iowa. you had be very, very careful put everything she does, it helps her continue to be a focus with the candidates if she is being coy. if i had to put money on it as a she's not going to endorse it. not before the caucuses. shannon: out galen, who has surprised you the way they have either connected well with people we have seen a survey of a rise in the polls or others have found her a little bit in the hands on retail? >> it state fair has demonstrated these canids know where they are at in iowa and there tailoring their fair experience to reflect that we seem governor rhonda ron desantis at retail politics hearties in the classic fair circuit hitting a lot of different locations trying to connect with voters, shake a lot of hands. similar thing with center tim scott. some of the folks here some folks try not to become get a last-minute push for donors try to get up on the debate stage may be a pitch over at the soapbox i think we really see those different priorities reflected in how they're taking on the fair. shannon: how him but he would ft gotta have a lot of hope soon i was former vice president mike pence the evangelical vote is huge here within the gop. the "new york times" says this he has been emphasizing his loyalty to the constitution and invoking his faith as he tries to win the support of the evangelical voters he is counting on to propel him in the 2024 primary. kathy why isn't he connecting better with evangelicals more broadly islands? what's evangelicals are like of other public voters. but they care about more than a candidates issue position and values is electability. and mike pence is struggling. he is not popular with the pro- trump crowd which is office of oppositethe biggest part of thea caucus universe right now. but he also -- met people who might also like him are worried about his electability but he is not connecting really with either side the pro- trump or the anti- trump side. he is in a bad place for the caucuses. shannon: in the meantime tim scott is had a nice surge here in iowa we spent a lot of money. he's got ad dollars to pour into iowa. it's a very nice optimistic message, galen does he go a long haul with islands? are they flirting with him what's going on there? >> it will depend who you talk too. i have spoken with a lot of iowa voters who really like what they hear from tim scott for the optimistic message for a lot of them is a change of pace is something they can see themselves really appreciating. i think for a lot of them maybe they enjoy it but it's not necessarily what they see coming to the floor i like tim scott i appreciate tim scott but right now may not has a slight sword to the top of the recently
