Category 3 storm, winds one hundred 25 miles an hour. Those winds will die down as a boost to the north, that water is colder, warm water pool these storms, that is what ultimately lets these storms become more powerful. We expect this to weaken but that will bring a ton of moisture. When you talk about earlier landfall what you are looking at is sunday morning. Winds 80 miles an hour. Thats a landfall in the baja peninsula. Still running into Southern California. More so Sunday Evening into overnight monday. Those initial bands of rain are going to be there you will see a lot of rain, the center of the storm moving in. In this area you are going to see rain much earlier than you initially thought. Sunday evening, the center of circulation moving into Southern California. The leading edge is going to be here and we are looking at a big area with Tropical Storm warning, first time this has ever been issued in Southern California. This is a rare event. We havent seen a Tropical Storm in 80 years. The biggest concern not so much a winds though they are concerned, the biggest concern is the rain, fairly widespread, five inches of rain. Dont be shocked if there are places and some of the mountain ranges with 8 to 10 inches of rain. That will be enough to cause serious flooding. Heres the time, future forecast, this is taking you this evening, saturday, 5 p. M. Pacific time, you see heavy rain on the leading edge of this coming in. Once the rain comes and it will be here for a while. Looking at the timestamp in the corner, through saturday night, sunday, i could run you into monday and it is round after round after round of heavy rain and that is the big concern. The initial round of rain is not going to stop until monday morning so flooding is something to pay close attention to. Anita we are watching out for that. Thank you for that report. Mike for more on Hurricane Hilarys impact, Christina Coleman is in pacific palisades, california. Reporter Southern California is not used to getting rain this time of year let alone a Tropical Storm. This area is under its firstever Tropical Storm watch. Take a look at this. They are reinforcing sand burn to protect lowlying coastal communities against huge waves. That is a major concern at this time. People who are prepping with sandbags, historic Flash Flooding and mudslides. La mayor karen bass reiterating how dire the situation can be. We are not used to hurricane preparation. Its another example of climate change, so we have to be prepared for Climate Events we are not used to. Stay safe. Stay off the streets. Reporter debris flows, Flash Flooding is a major concern for the driest areas in california. Joshua Tree National Park was close to prevent people from getting trapped during heavy rains and in the next three days, palm springs and the Mojave Desert preserve get multiple years worth of rain. Residents are urged to be prepared for anything. Start with having the water and food on hand to stay at your home for a couple days. Dont be scrambling to grab that stuff as the event is happening. In a situation where you have to leave your home because of major flooding or other issues, you want to know you can leave quickly. Reporter the Homelessness Crisis is a big concern in Southern California. City officials are working to get people who are homeless near creeks and riverbeds into shelters to try to get them out of harms way. At the beach it looks nice. A lot of people Walking Around. During those storms emergency officials are warning people to stay clear of these beaches because of dangerous waves. Mike many thanks. Anita for more details, joining me is the director of the National Hurricane center, Michael Brennan it. I know youre busy. As we have been hearing from almost everyone, this is nearly a once in one hundred year event. I grew up in Southern California. Californians are not used to bracing for hurricanes. Earthquakes, fires, sure. What do you want to tell people to prepare . The biggest concern is heavy rainfall regardless of the wind speeds associated with hilary. A potentially catastrophic flooding event that will unfold in the next 24 to 46 hours across portions of Southern California, southern nevada. Today is the day to get your preparations done, get to that safe place to ride out the storm. By tonight you dont want to be moving around. Even into sunday night and monday it could be dangerous to be out and about. Reporter we heard from congressman darrell isa, he represents the district in san diego that is impacted. California homes are not built with the same heavy windows east coast homes have. Are you concerned about that as far as the wind . There could be some wind impact. We have Tropical Storm warnings for los angeles, San Diego County coastlines and across much of interior Southern California. We could see in the mountains significant wind gusts, 60 miles an hour that could do damage, bring down trees and power lines, could cause structural damage to homes but the main focus needs to be on the flooding from rainfall which kills more people than any other hazard in Tropical Storms and hurricanes. Reporter what days are you telling people to stay off the roads, stay inside, dont be in an area that will be impacted by flooding . What are the days you are zeroing in on . We are seeing rainfall moving into Southern California and nevada. By tonight the Rainfall Intensity will pick up. On sunday, in advance of the center of hilary which will not reach California Into Sunday into monday, the rain and wind occur in advance. Tomorrow, sunday especially will not be a good day to be out and about. It is dangerous to drive in Flooding Conditions at night, you cant see how deep the water is, if a road or bridge is washed out. Big concerns about interstate 10, interstate 8. Theyve been close in the past. These heavy Rainfall Events come a any of these roads, the Southern California mountains could be susceptible to landslides. Anita those are major thoroughfares in Southern California. I hope people are listening and paying attention. Michael brennan, director of National Hurricane center, thank you for your time today. Mike a new jersey judge blocking three new Jersey School districts from the Momentum Policies that require parental notification if a child changes gender identity. The decision a major blow to those in the garden state who have been fighting for parental rates. Any cotton live for more details. Reporter new jerseys Attorney General who filed a lawsuit to block the parental Notification Policies created by these three School Districts is praising the judges decision. The ag writing as a Superior Court recognize, the state is not targeting parental rights which all our lawsuit seek to do is reinstate the same policies these districts found acceptable with little protest for years. Put simply, we can both keep parents informed about childrens developed and protect civil rights of our most vulnerable students. The policies will be blocked until the case plays out in the state civil right court. Attorneys representing the district say that process could take up to two years and puts teachers at risk. If they know the student is struggling, and that struggle arises from Transgender Status but we are not allowed to tell the parent, it places the school in a compromising position. Of something, god forbid, happens to that student, suicide or other selfharm, and we didnt tell the parent, and the parent finds out that we didnt know, that is a horrible situation for the school to begin. Reporter Lgbt Q Outlets have weighed in saying the Notification Policies need to be blocked because transgender students can be forcefully outed to their families. Northeast based lgbtq rightcenter telling fox this action should be a clear signal to School Districts, city and state authorities that safeguarding the rights of transgender, gender nonconforming and Nonbinary Youth is imperative. Attorneys for the School Districts tell fox they are exporting avenues to appeal the judges decision. Mike thanks very much. For more on the new jersey politics, lets bring in todays political panel. Joining us is garen been 3 of Jr Be Strategies and matt bennett, thank you, welcome. Lets start with the case in new jersey. Your thoughts . The question around parental rights is a broad one. In texas and other places, Governor Abbott sending Child Protective Services after parents seeking medical care for their kids in these cases of transgender rights. Lets be clear what this is and what this isnt. This is not about schools that are doing medical or changing children. This is simply about keeping kids from being outed to their parents as your piece made clear. Not changing anything that has been going on in new jersey for years. Mike garrett, your thoughts . If anyone is making a decision, 18, 23, 25, that is one thing. Wanting to conceal and hide information from parents is frankly creepy, number one. Number 2, it is Government Overreach as well. Something parents are involved in with their kids education, specifically when it comes to something as Sensitive Information like this. We will see how it plays out. This was a very big winning issue in virginia, specifically when Glenn Youngkin won the government. Mike lets dig in 22024 politics from the new fox paul, 2024 gop president ial nominee preference, trump is down slightly to 53 . Desantis is down to 16 . Vivek ramaswamy is up to 11 . Mike pence at 5 . Haley at 5 . Christie at 3 . How do you assess those numbers . Important to recognize polls this early dont mean much. Generally in a wide field like this, with people surging and fading over time, a flurry of excitement around various candidates that fade. I think one thing is important, 36 point gap between trump and the rest of the field. Does not appear to be that that is anything these candidates have the ability to make up. It is not going to be up for debate. Very difficult for them to land a punch on him particularly if they are unwilling to take a swing at him. For the most part they are defending him. They are not going to close that gap. Mike second the choice for gop nominee among trump primary voters. Desantis has dropped to 37 . Vivek ramaswamy has gone from 0 to 22 and mike pence dipped to 11 . What read on the gop race . I agree with what matt is saying. When you have donald trump at 37 points, that is tracking the real clear politics average at 40 in the primary. This number has been the same for the last three or four months, track from 30, 40, 50 points, toppling his republican primary opponents. I would say there is a never trump fantasy here that somehow there was a 1on1 matchup between desantis or whoever and trump, that trump would lose, thats not the case. Trump is tracking at 50 , 60 in a crowded field with ron desantis, tim scott, nikki haley, talented contenders. New york times poll that came out earlier this month, trump wins 30 points head to head against ron desantis. The Vivek Ramaswamy surge is interesting, he came out of nowhere a few months ago, was not household name. Its a warning sign for ron desantis, with Vivek Ramaswamy catching him nationally and your foxbusiness poll a little bit ago, you have tim scott catching him in iowa and nikki haley in south carolina. Thats a big problem for him, highstakes. Last thing i will say is this. In a general election voters in the republican primary are trusting donald trump by a 30 point margin to take on President Biden. The reason i think there is is two reasons. Number one, we see in a New York Times poll, President Biden is losing steam with nonwhite voters. He won them by 40 points in 2020, only beating trump by 16 points right now in the same poll. The last thing i will say is look at the rust belt paul, the key states. You really need to win to get back the presidency. Fox and friends covered this as well. In that paul, wisconsin, michigan, ohio, and pennsylvania, donald trump is beating President Biden by seven and ron desantis losing by three points, trump is the most dominant figure in republican politics. Mike we are looking forward to our first president ial debate on the republican side. Dont miss it. Thanks very much. Anita the first gop president will debate on fox just days away as some candidates fight for a spot on the stage. Alexis mcadams live with the latest on the campaign trail. What do you have for us now. Reporter we noticed what was going on with the pigs. And Ice Cold Lemonade on my shoulder, but as all the food and fun in the Iowa State Fair is ramping up. The heavy hitters like Chris Christie and Vivek Ramaswamy, tim scott, nikki haley and ron desantis in atlanta, georgia, we talked to Vivek Ramaswamy who plans to stand out in the field and listen. I have less experience in government than any other candidate. I am no multibilliondollar enterprise, hired and fired thousands of people. Im best position to reach the next generation of young americans. Reporter mike pence, Chris Christie, all speaking in Atlanta Georgia in the same city where the former president was just indicted. Hes not there but it is a hot topic. Also on the list, the economy, something weve been hearing from islands on a daily basis, they are spending more on the basis than we ever had including fair food, like some of these things like this Lemonade Shakeup which is my favorite thing.
