There are special precautions for this that might be wellknown to, lets say floridians, but not so much californians, correct . Correct. Fbi, dea, fema and other organizations will go into the Historic Town of lahaina and get the cadaver dogs going through the area. Some of the images that were seeing are remarkably sad and gruesome. We know that there are still many, many people that are unaccounted for. I talked to a federal source yesterday and he tells me that he thinks that this number is going to continue to rise as far as Human Remains and the dead because as they go through the town very carefully with the dogs, theyre going to find remnants and neil, i dont want to be graphic, but the reality is, is that its a graphic situation, theyre not finding, you know, intact bodies or anything even remotely close to that, theyre find parts of human beings and doing dna swabs based upon what relatives are working with the fbi and its just a tedious process, as you can imagine, as to what theyre going through out there to try and identify the dead as it continues. That entire area is cordoned off. You cannot get into lahaina. There are road blocks with the Army National guard. The main highway has been reopened in the past 48 hours so at least residents and tourists can make their way through the western area of maui. By the way, i should note for anyone wondering, maui, the island, is opened for business. Meaning if you have plans to travel here or wanting to travel here shall the resorts and everything are open. Thats a message that literally everybody i run into on this island wants me to convey and you cant blame them because thats how they thrive, off of tourism in this paradise, neil. In the meantime, the head of the Emergency Management here on the island of maui resigned literally two days ago claiming health reasons, but the reality on that is that he took a lot of heat and a lot of pressure for the fact that sirens did not go off. There wasnt proper warning and thats another major top elk for folks that live here. They want to know why there was not the warning as the winds kicked up and the power lines went down. I mean, the middle of the night when it happened, almost two weeks ago, there was no power because of those winds, and then the fire officials claimed that the fire was out and people went upon their business and then it flared up again and then people tried to get out of lahaina and they could not. And we know then the entire town burned down, incinerated, unfortunately. 12,000 people used to live there. It is now essentially a crime scene as they continue to search for the dead. Also, one more thing, neil, the Attorney General here in hawaii has launched her own investigation into how the response was. Clearly that will take time to shake out. In the meantime, ngos are on the ground trying to provide as much aid as they can and also hawaiians are taking into their own hands to help each other. So, youre going to see a bunch of candidates probably take big shots at ron desantis, you saw Chris Christie over this last week, essential will i called for ron desantis to drop out of the race. I think youll see a lot of people take shots at ron desantis and other people try to introduce themselves and make clear there are more candidates in this race than just ron desantis and donald trump. We did talk about his surge in some polls to show hes the second republican or third however you look at it, nationally. Im wondering what you make of that . Well, its hard to say. As you said, neil, it is a national phenomenon. There was a poll out in New Hampshire that showed him in double digits. The first one, as far as i know. You know, look, in the summertime, Republican Voters like to shop around and that might be what this is. It could be something similar to ben carson, you know, shopping around. You know, dating around and getting married in january when the actual voting starts. Or it could be something more serious and i think this is an opportunity for ramaswamy to demonstrate that hes not just a flash in the pan. Neil you know, interesting. I like that, the Marriage Analogy there. Alex, one of the things that struck me in my chat with ramaswamy a few minutes ago is the big job that he is interested in and not the number two job that a lot of republicans are interested in him for. This is ramaswamy earlier today on the vp spot. If you dont make it to be the president ial nominee, more republicans want you to be the vicepresident ial nominee than anyone else. Would you entertain that. Well the fact the fact is, neil, many of these people didnt know who i was six months ago and were still sitting before the first debate. Donald trump and i think share something in common, neither of us does well in a number two position. Im built to actually lead the organizations that ive built and i think that when im looking at the federal government, my greatest contribution, neil, and one of my goals being to reunite this country, im going to be in the best position to get that done if im doing it from the top job. Thats where my focus is, ive been very clear. Im not interested in a different position in the government. Frankly, id drive change through the private sector than becoming number two or three in the federal government. Neil thats a heartbeat away from the presidency. Are you saying you would turn it down if offered to you . I am. Neil you know, im not surprised by that answer, gentlemen, but alex, what did you make of that. Ill replay that chat, if he does become the running mate for whomever, but what did you make of that . I would keep the flipflop watch on if, you know, if donald trump offers him the vicepresident ial spot. I think that as you put it, a heartbeat away from the presidency, hard to say no if someones asked you to serve your country, but i think, you know, what he is doing here, which i think every candidate is sort of doing, theyre trying not to be the sort of the beta in this race and by saying, oh, yeah, i would definitely be vicepresident. You know, hes trying to exude that, you know, he can sort of take on donald trump, that hes the best man in this race. I dont think its a coincidence that, you know, a lot of the other candidates have been asked this question and sort of said something similar, i wouldnt be good in number two spot and id be executive. Its a little like im the alpha in the room messaging. Neil i think youre right about that and virtually every vicepresident weve ever had once disavowed the office, he or in the case of Kamala Harris she ultimately got. And let me get a sense of the scrutiny you get when you rise in the polls. Certainly Florida Governor desantis discovered that and lingering with the effects of that, but then theres the issue of ramaswamy himself. We mentioned this lawsuit among two workers who said, when he ran his Investment Firm, it was all about building his eventually campaign and not helping the Investment Firm or its assets and its shareholders. So its begun, hasnt it . It has. And look, i think ramaswamys greatest asset is his youth and vitality up to this point in time, but you know, the flip side of youth is inexperience and a lack of knowledge, hardearned, experimental in the field of politics and i think that could be a problem as well and an offhand comment on hugh hewitt, he would be okay, with perhaps allowing China Retake Taiwan in his second term. Thats not the sort of thing thats going to drive voters directly, but potentially feeds into a narrative that he doesnt actually know what hes talking about because thats not a thats not the sort of thing that a president says about taiwan ever full stop. If he keeps making sort of sidewinding comments like that, it could lead to an impression like, you know, the guys got some natural talent, a success in the business world, but he doesnt know what were actually dealing with in the capacity of the president of the United States. I dont know whether were giving them paper work that would deal with this later. What can you tell us . In the month of may and june, we did see a decrease, but we knew that that decrease was going to be shortlived. We knew that the cartels would regroup based upon the policies that this administration implemented. We knew that would happen and in july 150,000 apprehensions and this month were expecting 180,000 and in fact, thats what were on pace for is 180,000 apprehensions and thats based on what youre looking at right now. Because were releasing people in the United States. If there are no consequences for violating our laws, people will continue to come. Thats what the cartels do, use our policies against us. They go out and they advertise their services, they tell everybody, its okay, all you have to do is give me thousands of dollars, ill get you to the United States and youll enter illegally and released. And ultimately youll get what you want, released into the United States. Thats why you see thousands upon thousands of people illegally. What keeps me up at night, what scares me is the cartels. When you see pictures of Armed Cartels Personnel in the United States, thats whats scary because these people are some of the most dangerous people in the entire world. The murders that they commit, the way that they commit those murders and when you have them operating inside the United States, thats whats scary and whats so frustrating and monstrous to every single one of us is knowing that this can be controlled by policy, by proper policy, by this administration. And theyre not doing it. So, instead were getting armed Cartelsmen Crossing our border illegally and something weve never seen in the history of my Law Enforcement career, weve never seen anything like that, but were seeing it now under this administration because the policies are so lax. Neil what i dont understand, theyre not exactly shy, these cartel members. Even when apprehended themselves, because they know nothing can or will happen to them. That cant be true, can it . No, we could prosecute these individuals to the fullest extent of the law for crossing our borders illegally armed like that, that alone would put you in jail for a good 10 years, but there could be other charges on top to put them away a long time. Right now the individuals are not scared of our government, theyre not scared and what frustrates me, theyre not scared of our media. This is something we know the Mainstream Media is not covering it, youre covering it, but the vast majority of the media are not saying anything about that. Thats frustrating to every single one of us. We want to protect the american citizens were here to serve. We cant do it if this administration isnt going to take what is happening on the border seriously and right now theyre just not doing it. Neil at first blush, secretary, my immediate read, whats the controversy here that parents simply be notified if their children, some very young, want to change genders and theyre not told about it, but what do you make of the whole back and forth on it . Well, its really rather mindboggling that were even in a place like this today where parents have to sue and or push School Boards to know and learn about things that they should be informed of as a matter of course with their children. Its no wonder that parents are making choices other than their assigned schools when the schools dont respect them as the first educator for their children and schools and districts that dont Pay Attention to and dont make parents have parents Intermally Integrally involved with their childrens education do so at their own peril. Its why were seeing Education Freedom, School Of Choice policies sweep the country because of policies just like this. Neil you know, whats odd about it as well, secretary, the notion, one thing to argue with parents over the curriculum you have at a given school, but then to keep secret from parents whether their children want to change sexes is a whole other matter, is it not . And you know, starting with some of the curriculum and materials that they are feeding to Young Children that are totally inappropriate, you know, there is no wonder why parents have begun to speak up across the country, whether its at School Board Meetings or whether voting with their feet and going somewhere else with their children. Parents know and love their children and need to know whats going on with their childrens lives. And schools, and education settings are meant to be part of that and when theres a separation like were seeing in all too many places today, there is going to be change and again, i am heartened to see the Education Freedom, School Choice policies that are taking root because of policies like this and others that parents have been exposed to, particularly through how we navigated covid. When i had a chance to talk a few minutes ago with Vivek Ramaswamy, running for president , surging in the polls and dont know how long that lasts, hes put out 10 commandments and among them not only something for his campaign, the republican party, the country, number six, parents determine the education of their children, he says, in another commandment, the Nuclear Family is the greatest form of government the world has ever known. What do you make of that . Hes saying in other words, the family and parents, are at the core of all of this. Absolutely. I mean, the family is the foundation of our society, of our culture, and we dont respect that at the peril of that relationship with between school and parent. And were seeing a disrespect in all too many places, which is why were seeing parents involved in ways that they havent been for many, many years before, and again, being exposed to some of these things that have been going on unbeknownst to many of them, has really ignited a fire, really countrywide for parents taking and reasserting their primacy as the prime educator for their children. And were going to see that continue to evidence itself in more and more choices being made for Education Fits for children that are in settings now that are simply not working for them. Neil you know, secretary, i mentioned ramaswamy, but do you have a horse or a candidate in this race you like . Have not endorsed a candidate and most interested in knowing where all of the candidates stand on Education Freedom, School Of Choice policies. As you know, thats been my passion for my whole adult life and very hearteningly were seeing very strong support for these policies to empower parents to make the right choice and decision for their own children and that is going to be a powerful theme and a powerful issue in next years election. Neil you have been critical, secretary, about Donald Trumps behavior, you know, leading up to and post january 6th. I caught up with bill barr, of course, the former Attorney General who has been very critical of the former president as well as you know, secretary. But he did remind me that hell hath no fury like a president or his supporters ticked off that youre turning on him. This is from bill barr earlier in the week. I want you to comment on that. I dont regret an opportunity to serve the country and work with a lot of the great people that were in the trump administration. I dont regret it. I do think that he booted it. A lot of people worked very hard to give him the opportunity for a second term and it was easily within his grasp in my opinion and because hes so selfcentered and lacks any kind of control, selfcontrol or discipline, he booted it. Neil if he were he were elected president again, do you think he could get good people around him . Or once burned twice shy. I think to be hard to attract people other than people who are subserviant to him and are yes people. Neil secretary, what did you think of that . Well, i too was very honored to serve the person people and particularly kids and their families as secretary of education, and i believe that we have got to stay focused on ensuring that joe biden does not get a second term as president because where hes taking this country is simply untenable for another four years beyond this term, and when you look at what hes been doing to try to circumvent the Supreme Court decisions around laws that he seems to simply think are not important for him when it comes to im sorry, secretary, that wasnt what i asked, of course. What do you think of what bill barr was saying about donald trump that hes going to have a devil of a time should he be elected president filling a cabinet because of the way he treated his former cabinet people. Well, it does make it difficult when there are personal attacks on individuals and you know, i share some of his concerns around that, but i think, again, my focus as an observer at this point is to really see what all of the candidates are saying about how they are going to make education and particularly Education Freedom and School Choice policies a centerpiece in their campaigns because i happen to think that that is fundamentally one of the biggest problems we face. We are not preparing the rising generations to take leadership in our country. We see it in the results almost daily. Neil no, youre quite right about those numbers and indicated that. I guess i want to be just be clear on is this notion that the problem donald trump might have, if he gets elected, is getting people who would be beyond yesmen. Do you think that could be a legitimate problem and would it get in the way of your supporting donald trump if he were the nominee or would you support him and see The Greater Good of the party in having a republican in the white house . I think, again, were going to see the primaries play out and we will see who the party ultimately nominates and i believe whomever is nominated is going to be head and shoulders above a joe biden presidency. Neil even if that is donald trump, secretary . Even if that is former president trump. Neil okay. But a long time between now and next november and i think the debates around these issues and knowing where candidates stand and what they not only what they could have done or what they plan to do, lets look at what records people actually have on getting some of these issues resolved and addressed. Neil so you dont think that the former president as a future president would have any difficulty finding cabinet members, all of this bad blood withstanding in the past . I cant really speculate on that. He clearly has not done himself favors by dissing a lot of people who were very, very good servants in his administration and i think about my colleague bill barr among them. Neil okay.
