Pleading with officers, wanting to be let in because they lost their friends and Family Members residents arent going to be let in for some time now. This is still an active Search And Rescue scene. They are still trying to get people out, busing people out of the Evacuation Zone this as the death toll unfortunately continues to climb. 55 people at least confirmed dead at this time. Several fires burning on the island of maui since tuesday. None of them yet fully contained by officials here. Yet unknown how they started. Most destructive on mauis west side ripped through the community of lahaina driven by fierce winds High Pressure to the north and Hurricane Dora as it passed hundreds of miles to the south. According to hawaiis governor the fire destroyed more than 1,000 buildings in lahaina and destroyed the towns ban i dont know tree the peaceful Island Paradise once described as paradise now looks like a war zone. Gas tanks exploded. The dogs are stuck in the house. We dont know if our house we dont know if our animals are alive or not. When you are trapped between fires, other things come feelings, especially if you are not with your own family or the devastation is what it is. The town is gone. The history is gone. Is, teams have been coming in from across the country. The National Guard is also on the ground to help. Take a listen. The National Guard has acti activated. National guard and 35 from the air National Guard to assist with the hawaii wildfire response. Making things even more difficult cell towers and phone lines have burned up on mauis west side. Thats made communication very difficult. A lot of people here dont know the fate of their friends and loved once. Bark to you. Thats exactly right. Thats why there are still 1,000 people missing. Its true. Remind us, how would i ever run out of a cell phone singal right in the middle of a town. This is that case. It makes us ask ourselves are we ready for a similar emergency . Our s. Whats interesting is whats going on right now is a lot of the candidates all of the candidate for the most part are dropping by the Iowa State Fair and they are dropping by and they are sitting down with the governor. Adam, the winds are dying down a little but, still, the fires are not fully contained yet. No, they are not contained but the conditions are improving a little bit to fight those fires. Now, the winds up to 80, 85 miles per hour. Here early this morning winds well calmer as you are looking at several of these spots down under 10 miles per hour. Each the strongest winds, 12, 1. These are ultimately pick back up again. Thats going to cause problems for firefighters, but nothing like we saw those really intense winds. What are we talking about . This is the forecast taking you all the way in through the weekend. Eventually winds up to 20, 3. Again, these are much, much calmer conditions what really allowed those fires to get going. Maui is the island that has not seen any rain. If you look across the island chain, pretty much all of them are above on the seasonal average of rain. Maui is below average. This maui, not far from lahaina is where your family has had a place, the kaine family has visited for decades i left there two weeks ago. We go there every summer as a family. My brothers, sisters and extended family. Extended family of people im not related to who i have known there for years and years. My mom is still there, yes. Steve, there is no power in waste maui but she is safe. We have spoken to her. Its hard to get through. The cell service is down. Its really hard to relay how how isolated this paradise is. One highway in and out. If you cut off communication, youre really down to word of mouth. My mom and her husband are there. And they said they would go to the car. They have been going it the car and listening to the radio for updates. Almost as though we thousands of miles away have more information two miles away from them than those so close a disaster. They are safe and the plan to evacuate them saturday, steve. Steve i have been reading that certain places in maui, around where your mom is in lahaina, Grocery Stores have nothing. Restaurants, if they are Still Standing have nothing. Gas stations out of gas. Its a desperate situation. People think hawaii they think that is the most Beautiful Spots on earth and it was until about throw days ago. It still is. I will say that if you have ever watched the sun set between on the side of west maui it truly is paradise. Whats been lost, steve, is of course an Incall Double Human toll its the lives. And thats the point amend the focus that number you shared a moment ago a thousand missing. My friend, ace mentioned i have extended friends and family. Some of them moved there full time. And then it became the global Whaling Center where drunk sailors would stumble into town into old bars every report that is all gone, steve. Thats the part thats been lost. I dont know how we recover that story, that history, that identity. Steve thats right. Lahaina just a series of small wooden buildings, the whole town. And it is for the most part all gone. We moved out of california in 2013 and now we are here outside of nashville milking 1200 cow. Ainsley how does this effect you when you hear corn is growing up, so i beans growing up we produce 80 pierce of the worlds so i beans. How is that going to effect you and your family . Well, just for the education of everyday americans, you know, we have lost 25 of farm land 1950. The cost to raise animals and livestock has gone up 28 . And, you know, we are seeing 2,000 acres a day being taken up by urban development, by residential areas. And its really scary to see how much land we are taking away from our Family Farmers and ranchers. I believe if we do not stop this dangerous trend that were not going to have the land to supply the american people. Ainsley i mean, stephanie, how do you survive when the prices are going up and you say cost is going up 28 for your family to have a farm. Its really hard. We have to make tough decisions every day. We have to look at the economy of agriculture. We have to look at washington, d. C. And the policies that they are missing. I believe that the usda is weak right now. You talk about next Generation Farms and programs. There is no way that they are going to be able to afford 5, 10, 35,000 an acre to be able to sustain a farm. And its really sad to see that our nation, the average age of a farmer is 65. Were looking at 370 million acres that could be lost in the next 20 years if we do not start implementing programs for next Generation Farmers and our Food Security here in the united states.
