They havent really found an effective way to politically message around this issue not only getting attacks from the right but the attacks from the left as well for the policies they have implemented trying to slow the numbers at the border and as we are seeing now, we are seeing increasingly more and more local communities kind of raising their hand and saying hey, we need help to deal with this. Bret this isnt just any local communities. This is massachusetts. This is new york city pushing back on democratic, you know, principles saying this is not working for us. Ing yeah. Well, look. A lot of eastern and west coast folks who didnt have this problem on their own border had great politics when it documents denying what was happening at the border. Now that we have seen migrants having been bused, flown and Everything Else to all these cities across america, lo and behold there is an Immigration Problem to recognize here. We are not far removed from a democratic primary debate in 2020 where you had every candidate raising their hands basically saying oh, come on in, free healthcare and Everything Else. We saw the dismantling of all of the Administration Previous administrations policies when it came to remain in mexico and Everything Else. They built what is happening right now. Its not just about messaging and trying to figure out sort of how you politically handle it. This is the result of just absolute incompetent all the way through. And you saw jerry nadler with that extremely rigorous oversight asking mayorkas if the border is secure and he says yes and he goes well, there you have it. And thats basically what we saw for the better part of two years. Bret in the g. O. P. Primary though, stef its interesting watching Governor Desantis trying to attack former President Trump on the issue of immigration saying he didnt finish the wall. It wasnt a finished product. Yeah. Desantis has kind of tried to take that issue away from trump who, obviously, immigration was such a big part of his campaign in 2015 and 2016. But, desantis is trying to point to some of the ideas that the Trump Administration considered but maybe never followed through on. Things like birthright citizenship, ending that for undocumented immigrants in the u. S. Finishing the wall. Some other harsh policies, of course, desantis has taken his own very, you know, harsh approach to immigration in the state of florida. And he is very proud of that, and thats going to be a number one issue for trump, desantis. Bret although he has his own issues replacing his Campaign Manager and the shakeup continues on the Desantis Campaign, byron. They wanted to stretch this out so weekend have several weeks. Bret Campaign Shakeup stories. Reset on Desantis Campaign. Something is not working if you look at the real clear politics of Polls Desantis support half of january. Not catching on is not exactly saying doing justice to it. Now, i havent been to iowa in a few weeks, but it appears that he has really changed what is he doing. Smaller events. A lot more contact with people, not sort of acting like maybe he is already the president. That is the kind of thing that can help you. On the other hand, as much as we like the people in iowa, you know, ted cruz won the Iowa Caucuses in 2016. Rick santorum won them in 2012. And Mike Huckabee 2008. Bret not always on the list. Talk about it whether joe biden is going to go the distance. The democrats are starting to talk about that as well. Listen. I think there is greater than 50 chance he is not on the ballot come november of 24. You are going to see two things happen. Either is he going to go through the primary process effectively unchallenged. A year from now collect all the delegates, his health is not going to be good. Is he always use that as a reason step out and basically tell all of his delegates to go for somebody else and kind of be the king maker. It wouldnt be unheard of for the democrats to try to manipulate their convention that way. They have done that before. My call is to those who are wellpositioned. Wellprepared. Of good character and competency. They know who they are to jump. In because democrats and the country need competition. We need alternatives for the massive majority of the middle in america. Bret josh, what about that . We hear more and more stories. More and more soundbites that fit that narrative. Of course the Biden Campaign is not saying that. Yeah. I think they are acknowledging the obvious in some ways is that joe biden is a very diminished candidate in 2024 regardless of where you are at within the democratic party. I think Dean Phillips is acknowledging the obvious there. I think he is also doing the v. But, when it comes to delivering on the economics of it, really hasnt panned out for the biden white house. I mean, clearly those poll results are not great for the Biden Administration. I think what we are seeing today is the beginning of what they are going to be focusing on in this lead up to 2024 try to convince the American Public that the things that they have achieved over the past two years or so actually are helpful and we are going to see them continue to tout both bidenomics and things like their Climate Agenda which some people suggest people may not fully understand some of the work they have done there and they are trying to explain that to the American Public in these key states. Bret bidenomics, a white house back and forth defending the green energy push, take a listen. The First Quarter of this year ford lost 700 million on their ev program, lost 600 million last year. So, is that what we can expect with the bidenomics plan. I would say looking across the economy broadly, we are seeing signs of progress. Well, i think one thing the president did was admit that the Inflation Reduction Act was a climate bill it. Really wasnt the Inflation Reduction Act. Listen, the president has a huge environmentalist constituency that he has to keep fairly happy here. And the other thing, i think, is what we are seeing in this three state tour that he is making now is a real return to very Traditional Democratic campaigning which is we gave you all this stuff you need to reelect us. Bret on issues in abortion. In ohio there is this statewide Ballot Initiative that essentially says how they can put things on the ballot. The big issue is abortion. Its a proxy war over abortion according to politico. More than 500,000 voters are already voted on issue 1. An amendment that would make it significantly more difficult to alter the states constitution, bring citizen initiated Ballot Measure to voters. Campaigns are working to remind the public that issue one could have dramatic implication for a number of issues that come before voters in the state. Talking abortion, every single one of those referendums, even in conservative states, has passed the Abortion Rights way so far. Right. In this particular one, what theyre doing is raising the threshold from a simple majority to amend the states constitution. Bret to prevent that vote. 60 threshold. As a practical matter thats it the only reason it works well to do a simple majority is the pocketbook of a political consultant terrific line of work. As the a policy matter, you are right, this has become a proxy war for the abortion issue. Any time you have a very well defined issue like abortion, welldefined side the intensity is always behind where the policy is moving away.
