Officials say the russians are working to resupply their forces in the donbas region, the southeastern part of the country. The u. S. Believes this is part of a Strategy Shift as they reposition fighters away from the northern section of ukraine. It wouldnt surprise anybody that theyre trying to organize themselves better for a more specific set of target objectives. Russia is also claiming that theyve had success in taking out an anti Aircraft Missile system. U. S. Officials have no proof it was taken out. While the russians are saying one thing, the u. S. The reports that china its been a big question. Will china provide military support to russia for the war in ukraine. Weve seen nato ramping up in the nato countries with more military, more boots on the ground. China confirmed today that they sent Weapon Shipments in to serbia over the weekend. Well get a better idea and pictures of what they sent tomorrow or wednesday. The serbian leaders are expected to show off what they have gotten from the chinese. We asked john kirby about whether or not this is concerning to the u. S. And they said he said they didnt want to see end up that could help russia. No indication thats whats going on. China is saying this has nothing to do with the current nflict. Lets bring in retired u. S. Army general Michael Rapass who has been in senior positions all over the region and as a Senior Adviser to the Ukrainian Armed forces. Very good to have you with us. We should start with your assessment of the troop movements and what this is likely to look like in this donbas region. Well, they started moving the troops a few weeks ago. As we all know, they moved out from northern kyiv, went to get rearmed, refitted and now moving to the east. Thats their plan. Theres limitations there. First off, the russians dont have the personnel replacements that they need and the specialties that they need to go into the new units being reformed out of the remnants of those that were destroyed north of kyiv. The second thing, theyre bringing in people from schools and other locations, the individual replacements and it has a couple of effects. It effects Unit Efficiency and unit morale and affects unicapabilities. Theyre not trained and ready to do what theyre supposed to be doing in combat. Whatever shows up in the east that has been reconstituted out of the north, formally the north, is not going to be as capable as a new Battalion Tactical Group that comes in. So those units will be of limited effectiveness. Russian doesnt have repair parts for the vehicles showing up there. So the ability to refit the weapons, the systems and the vehicles that they is not going to be there to improve the Combat Capability when they start using them in the east. So yes, the numbers are large. Mass tanks are on their own in combat. Its not sufficient to carry this day in my opinion. Martha we hear about this general, the butcher of syria as hes called. We know theres been an effort on the part of russia to bring in syrians and chechens to help them to fight these battles. Their personnel is waning. Can this general galvanize this force . Its more than being the butcher of syria. After he left syria where he was the butcher of syria, he killed a lot of people there by bombing hospitals, residential areas. That was the entire strategy that he got away without any monicker of being a war criminal. He was the architect of that business. Now hes bringing that tactic to eastern ukraine. We should be concerned about that and should prepare for exceedingly high casualties based on the bombing and massive firepower from the russians. The other thing that he has going for him, hes been the Southern Military direct commander since 2016, september of 2016. So hes had a long stare at what is going on in the donbas and preparing for operations in the eastern ukraine. He brings a degree of understanding that is very deep to this battle. Martha general, before i let you go, i want to ask you a question about china and the potential delivery of antimissile systems in to serbia. What does that tell you . First thing it tells me, china wanted us to know that. They flew in their strategic airlift all the way from serbia and dropped off these weapons in a visible display. They have some sort of global reach with their airlift. They havent displayed that in this manner before. It reached into the heart of nato as you said earlier in the lead up to this. So china says that they have strategic reach via air. When we get to the weapons themselves, one thing that we have seen is they showed off the air defense weapons. Syria the serbia could use those but they will be of limited use in serbia. I dont see that being transferred to russia. Russia doesnt need them right now. People are still trapped in the city and say day after day they are hiding, hoping that they wont hear the sound of tanks rolling by. Looking at the suburbs outside of the northern capitol of kyiv, police in bucha cant the grim job of identifying bodies. A morbid task is the daily dig. Residents forget whose bodies that will find under the rubble. One woman explains that shes still searching for her son. The digging out has been going on for five days already. Digging started on the 7th. So far theres no result. We are still waiting. Were waiting for the digging to show some results. Ukrainian president zelensky is urging nato to take stronger action as russia bears down on the east coast. These Satellite Images show an eight mile long russian convoy heading to the donbas region. Today we visited the small western town where a pilgrim site has become refuge for the 7. 1 million fleeing west. The church holds funerals every saturday to honor those that have been killed throughout the week. People that live in some of those small towns in the Countryside Say that they do not want to leave ukraine because they either dont speak the language in surrounding countries, they dont have the financial means to do so, theyre not healthy enough to leave or they say they want to stand with the military as a sign of solidarity and a sign of pride that they will not leave their homeland.
