writing that the press conference was supposed to inspire competence failed horribly, although he tried to highlight his "enormous progress he clearly ignored some of the nation's larger problems. such as crime, although to be fair, the reporters didn't even ask about that, like there's not even a crime crisis going on. mention to zero times by him or them. raising questions of the president seems to be detached from the realities of the american people. and what they would really think that given his dismal polling about him, and here's how he reacted to all of it. >> how do you plan to win back moderates and independents are cast about for you in 2020 but polls indicate aren't happy with the way you are doing your job now? >> president biden: i don't believe the polls. >> harris: that's interesting, marc, and this isn't a fact-check, just an observation. while he says he doesn't believe them, how come he knew all the numbers at one point? this one says i'm 33. while he knew it every poll said. >> it's not like an outlier here or there, he started out his presidency with 56% approval and a 20 points above water on approval versus disapproval. he is today at about 41% and ten points underwater so that goes from 20 points above water to ten points underwater in just a year. it's stunning. that if this is outperforming expectation, i would hate to see what underperforming expectations look like. it reminds me -- there was a "usa today" poll where nearly half the country said that biden has done a worse job than they expected it, and i thought to myself, the rest of them think, no, that's pretty much what i expected. it's as bad as i thought it would be. >> harris: our former president trump use the phrase "promises kept. and this president yesterday was asked specifically about keeping promises. he went further, with hyperbole perhaps, he over provided. he didn't overpromise which was what the question was. >> kayleigh: i thought that was most delusional press conference i'd ever seen. he said he over performed and that the american people give him a 33% approval rating and they a quinnipiac. he begins by touting the economy where the american people give them an approval rating of anywhere between 36 and 40%. he said he did not make a mistake in afghanistan with the american people say, nope, 31% approval. it was also the first time we had seen the president of the united states or really, biden, ever, and a two hour solo format. first time we see him for two hours in the solo format, and i left that press conference at genuinely scared for the future of our country. this is someone who is deeply delusional, someone who clearly does not know how to lead to. he does not have a basic graph on the facts and he continued to peddle the midst truth after midst truth and this is only one year. we've only had one year of president biden. look at the across the country. i was very disturbed by the reporters so i can tell you if president trump had said half of what biden had said yesterday, reporters would've been screaming. they would have spoken over president trump as he was speaking, i'm sorry mr. president, that's not true. it's a toxic formula when you have a delusional president and a press corps that is just uninterested in basic follow-up. >> harris: you know it's interesting shannon, you and i have both been in that small press briefing room, and it can get really small when tough questions are asked. i did feel that reporters leaned in a bit yesterday, but not to talk about the crime crisis. only too much on the twice. there were just things that got missed and jen psaki on america's newsroom come at the white house press secretary told bill and dana that they could ask whatever they wanted. it wasn't her problems they didn't ask about the crime. i wonder from a another reporter's perspective how they didn't see this? >> shannon: i think give credit where credit is due, a little combative at the end and was kind of joking to reporters, how long do you expect me to do this? don't open that door because everyone yelled yes. he had a little chuckle there and he said okay, i'll give you 20 more minutes. but it's up to reporters, there's a host of issues and a range of issues that we want to cover when we go in that room. you are hoping your question doesn't get asked but you have two or three or four topics and because he hasn't made himself more available in this way, sure, there are topics that he didn't get to, important ones like crime and others. when he was critiqued on why people were getting on board with him it was sort of well, it's the messaging. i need to get back out there. i want to get back out there and be with people, but where we were in the campaign was not being out there. because the few things that he did get out there and do, work massive great turnouts. i'm not sure that that messaging is going to help him on any of these things they are trying to get done. >> harris: if you can't stay in her basement and delaware and not stay in her basement in delaware, they are going to have to figure something out. i want to get to afghanistan with you. the psident defended his withdrawal of the troops in afghanistan last august. watch how he did it. >> president biden: raise your hand if you think anyone was going to be able to unify afghanistan under one single government. it's been the graveyard of empires for a solid reason. it is not and susceptible to unity. there was no way to get out of afghanistan after 20 years easily, not possible no matter when you did it. and i make no claim. we had to get out without making those types of mistakes, what did you make of his answer yesterday? >> shannon: to echo my colleagues here he had a delusional not only sense of the facts but also a delusional offense of himself. i want to wrap that up with the polls and although he says that he ignores them, he shouldn't. that's what americans care about and how they feel about this president. it was clear yesterday that what the reporters think americans care about is totally disconnected from what actually i actual americans do. so harping on the ukraine and harping on certain things, those 13 service members that lost their lives, those families certainly do care about a real transparent honest answer and think about the economy. think about inflation. last night he pivoted to purchasing automobiles. americans care about basic grocery items and the cost of such, and that's why 62% disapprove of his performance on the economy. he touted covid over and over again but only 54% of americans approve. that's why only 63% of them are actually vaccinated. clearly it's been botched from the beginning. 70 percent do not want them to run again. he's done more than any other president in the past. he absolutely has rose-colored glasses on that the rest of the americans see-through. a town hall with real americans asking real questions. >> even if it had to be digital, whatever it would take to get some real americans in it. it's interesting what you said about covid and where we are because last year we did covid confusion, our special half-hour on the faulkner focus. we might be in a completely different place, and these are the people that worked for him. he is still cleaning up those moments about russia invading ukraine. after a suggesting that present hooton of russia could get away with "minor incursion." watch, next. more and lower your payments $615 a month. no bank, no lender, no one knows veterans like newdayusa. okay everyone, our mission is to provide complete balanced nutrition for strength and energy. woo hoo! ensure, complete balanced nutrition with 27 vitamins and minerals. and ensure complete with 30 grams of protein. ♪ ♪ psoriasis really messes with you. try. hope. fail. no one should suffer like that. i started cosentyx®. five years clear. real people with psoriasis look and feel better with cosentyx. don't use if you're allergic to cosentyx. before starting get checked for tuberculosis. an increased risk of infection, some serious and a lowered ability to fight them may occur. tell your doctor about an infection or symptoms or if you had a vaccine or plan to. tell your doctor if your crohn's disease symptoms develop or worsen. serious allergic reaction may occur. best move i've ever made. ask your dermatologist about cosentyx®. we gotta tell people that liberty mutual customizes car insurance so you only pay for what you need, and we gotta do it fast. these bills aren't going anywhere because of democratic opposition so it's a lost cause. they are using this hyperbolic rhetoric, why would they be doing this? it turns out that there are two reasons. first, because in the 2020 election, republicans made huge inground with nonwhite voters. he won at 91% of the black male vote and in 2020, biden won 80% of the vote and donald trump won 80% of the black male vote and that young americans supported donald trump. they need to win super majorities of the black vote to win this so if they make any minor incursions into that, then they lose. second, now we know, it's because we want to be able to call the 2022 elections illegitimate and they are laying the groundwork for that. it's an intentional strategy. >> emily: harris, class hour you had a great interview with tom cotton who talked about all the issues that you just address surveyor. let's take a listen to some comments that he had at bidens anger and how he did compare joe manchin and kyrsten sinema. >> he can get angry and shout but he said what he said in a glance a couple of weeks ago and it's now widely rep recognized democrats that it's beyond the pale. it alienated the senators who can compare to those segregationists and secessionists. >> harris: we'd seen the president talk before and eloquently about topics of race and ethnicity. so you can add this one to the list. i don't think he sees the people. i don't think he understands first of all that you are looking at the broad united states and it might not have anything to do with the topic that you are on. and they might not like your messaging, maybe they don't like you, i don't know what it could be. you have to ask those people who are now volunteering to take these polls. but with the president on this issue, i do find it interesting that the reporter's question was, were you summing up people who don't agree with you as being the in the same camp? >> shannon: the military thing broke my heart because we've all done public assistance, sometimes to feed their families, and to survive, and harris laid it out so beautifully as part of a military family, she knows it's a privilege to serve but we have to be realistic that if you are serving in a military family, often that means struggling to get things on the table and countries that should not have let these men and women worry about. unintended consequences of hurting anyone's feelings but, it also makes me wonder, who understood the military lifestyle enough to think, we should include that. not to me since a lot more. >> kayleigh: i was in iraq visiting the troops in 2009, but i was struck by the reason that so many of these brave young men and women had signed up because so many of those reasons were economic. and the thoughts, the notion that i agree with harris is an absolute privilege, it's an many of these decisions coming from that place and the notion that that's a center of privilege, in the way that this has been reduced to and this is absolute tragic and heartbreaking. but hopefully things are looking up at least in some parts of the country where people see patriotism as an asset, because we certainly do here. maurice "outnumbered" and just a moment. ♪♪♪ >> oh, stevie wonder there. mark, ten seconds. the president set out to do a reset with the solo news conference, a rare one. how did he do, yes or no? >> stepping in as a reset, yeah, he had a reset. >> we are going to end on that note. thanks, everybody. "america reports" now. >> harris, thank you. ncaa now out with a new policy for transgender athletes effective immediately. it follows the controversy over university of pennsylvania swimmer lia thomas who is trans gender and breaking records on the women's swim team. >> sandra: a live report, plus, speaking to chelsea mitchell, challenging the legal right of transgender athletes to participate in female sports. she will join us live and
